bootloader - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I wonder if an alternative method to unlock bootloader will be released

If you looked around there are several threads and discussions about this. No there is no official unlock for the bootloader right now with exception to the international version. All we can do is hang tight and hope either LG caves in and allows us to unlock it or wait for some devs to work some magic

Truly magic

[Q]Doc's on phone boot process?

I'm thinking of doing some scary phone mods (culminating in booting from an encrypted filesystem) but don't know enough about the phone boot process to know where to start.
Can anyone point me to some documentation about the android boot sequence?

I understand you want to make a mod..that still doesn't mean a question about it goes here.

So, a question like "how do I change how my phone boots?" Doesn't belong in the *developer* forum? That's a little counterintuitive. Would this be better in one of the general dev forums?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using Tapatalk
We don't make the rules or even necessarily agree with them, but this forum is for more final products/roms. Think tank type topics don't belong here. Our g2 forum is getting so busy and big that its already getting hard to keep track of all the roms on here. If this was allowed this would just becoming a flaming mess. Not being combative just stating what someone else is surely to say.

here is a great place to find info of the 'low level' life of the phone: http://tjworld.net/wiki/Android/HTC/Vision
talking to certain guys at #g2root might help too.
Thanks, that's exactly what I'm looking for.

[Q] T-Mo/AT&T unlock

Is there a way to make a rooted and SIM-unlocked DInc2 usable on AT&T and T-Mo networks in the US? Any sort of flashable upgrade to any internal components, hacked radio or whatnot that would achieve that purpose?
Search the forum. There you will find the out that this can be done. As well as the fact you shouldn't post questions in the dev section.

What he said.
Also, xtc clip or call vzw and ask for an unlock code.

I have searched and I couldn't find much on this topic either. Granted I did it using tapatalk which leaves a bit to be desired in the search department. My point is that it might be more helpful overall to just answer the question rather than refuse simply because someone missed a thread and can't manage to find it using search for some reason.

Well, I do believe it was because this thread was posted in the wrong section.

I understand that, but it wouldn't be entirely uncool to answer the question along with any chastising someone might feel is necessary. or at least help someone in the right direction, which doesn't include the entirely unhelpful "search" comment all too common to forums with regulars.

If it is, I can't find it.
I have re-posted the question in the General forum, but all I got there so far is more of the same arrogant ignorance that some of the replies demonstrated here.
I believe it is perfectly clear from my original post that the phone is _already_ SIM unlocked and rooted.
Let's move further discussion to the General forum to avoid moderators' wrath.
If I'm not mistaken its a global phone. However the GSM frequency used abroad is different than in the states. Therefore I don't think it's possible.

It works with ATT and TMo. If you are talking about 3G on them, then that's a no. Hardware limitation.
Why posting here?

[Q] Paid solution to unlocking r800x's bootloader

I'm looking to unlock my bootloader, i have searched up and down for 30 minutes and the only thing that comes up is is ashergray saying he isn't doing it and to look for the paid solution. can someone point me in the right direction? thank you.
PM him about it.
He will send you an email, about where to send the money to, and what's gonna be done. It's $24 for unlocked SIM and BL.
PM who? ashergray?

Yep. He will send you an email in a day or two.
Actually, ashergray is not doing it afaik. It's Alejandrissimo, Jinx13 or one of those who has the setool box.
And the reason it's so hard to find that info on here is because our beloved dev group, in their infinite wisdom decided to remove it. Just another example of this forum's bias against the R800x users.

Actually, alejandrissimo removed the thread, it was in general, and it was never in the development thread...
The r800x isn't biased against, we just don't have developers for our version of the play (thanks to Verizon putting their paws all over this device.)

I stand corrected. I thought I read that it was the devs decision. My apologies for passing along incorrect info.
I think it would be a good idea to have a subforum dedicated to All Things R800x BLL (Bootloader Locked) CDMA. There are a few people who do focus on our version of the phone. It's more that their threads often get lost in the wealth of posts made here.

Bell Locked

I got a S III locked by Bell from Canada, now surely I can't use any other sim card in it. I tried contacting bell but they want me to come to Canada to resolve this issue. Is there any other way I can unlock the phone?
Brother there is a plethora of phone unlocking sites with unlock prices ranging anywhere between 5 and 25 bucks. Just google it. There are also sgs3 unlocking apps available for free in the play store. Look around there are a couple of threads in this forum. Frankly unlocking your phone is the easiest part. Good Luck!
At this time there is no free alternative to "do it yourself". Search this forum and the Q&A forum, I know there's been a few discussions on online unlock sites.

I had one with rogers that i just had unlocked for 19.99. It took 15 minutes for the site to email the unlock codes and it works great.

That doesn't make any sense, call bell again. They can provide you the instructions over the phone if you've been billed $75 for it
Is the issue that they did not provide you the code or the process on how to do it? I'll send you a pm

Dmca problems

http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/26/dmca-update-makes-new-phone-unlocking-illegal/
And so it passed that Congress didst layeth its blessing on the jailbreaking and rooting of all manner of devices; the hacking community saw the miracle and rejoiced. But that amendment to the DMCA two years ago was just a temporary exemption and the Electronic Frontier Foundation has been vigorously lobbying to get it reinstated. The Library of Congress has now done just that through a new three year extension, but with some serious caveats: After 90 days, unlocking of new phones will be verboten and all tablet mods will still be illegal. This differs from the 2010 decision which did allow unlocking, because the Librarian decided that a recent copyright ruling means fair use rules no longer apply to a handset's OS. It also said the exception isn't needed anymore because carrier rules regarding unlocking are now more liberal -- although the lawmaker may be confounding chicken with egg by that reasoning.

So uh... What now? Can someone with more knowledge on this subject elaborate on what this means to our community?
My guess, no more "how to unlock" threads if we want to avoid a DMCA complaint. Forums for tablets on this site will stick to talk about stock and stock only.

Rooting and rom flashing is still allowed, but you can't unlock a phone network wise.

Because apple, and carriers benefit. They contribute to politicians and Campaigns and this breeds sway over decisions as we are seeing them. Bull****.

When they say unlocking, meaning carrier or bootloader.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
this makes no sense, regardless if they mean carrier unlocking or rooting. a phone, for the last majority of users is subsidized by the carrier, a tablet isn't. why would you have more freedoms with a phone which is partially paid for by the carrier than a tablet which is paid for solely by the consumer?
and where is the line drawn between the two types of device?

It mean's you can't unlock the phone to use on another network without the original carriers consent.
