Battery Saving Guide (Root) - Verizon LG G4

This is just a simple guide that made my LG G4's battery life double (No exaggeration) after root. Please let me know of any other ways people have been saving battery since rooting their phone, and I'll happily update the original post with any suggestions and I am completely open to criticism and comments.
1. Greenify
-Greenify doesn't let apps use your battery in the background, and depending on how many power eating apps you have, the more of a dramatic increase in battery life you'll see.
-There are more advanced options, which you need Xposed Framework for, but the regular root options should work fine for most users.
Link- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify&hl=en
2. CPU Tweaking Apps (Ex. SetCPU)
-One of the first things I recommend doing once you download this app is to set the CPU governor to "powersave". I haven't seen any drop in performance, and I definitely think it is well worth giving a try.
-Another thing you can do is underclock your CPU, but after doing this I started to see lag around the UI, without a significant enough battery difference, but it won't hurt to give a try.
-A great app I found was QuadCoreManager, which has a feature that turns all cores off except for 1 while the screen is off, which saves a lot of battery in standby since the phone doesn't need all 6 cores to run without the screen on
SetCPU- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mhuang.overclocking&hl=en
QCM- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=seaskyways.quadcoremanagerplus&hl=en
Wifi Scan Interval
-If anyone knows a better way to do this please tell me, but there is an app called Pimp My Rom that can alter this setting. It basically just changes how often your device scans for wifi, which is a battery drainer for sure. This app hasn't been updated in a while, and is pretty buggy, but it gets the job done.
Pimp My Rom- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androguide.pimpmyrom&hl=en
Boosters Plus Batterysaver PRO
-This app is $6.99, so it clearly isn't for everyone, but I can tell you that the battery saving feature in this app is no joke. Most of the apps on the play store I've tried didn't work, or hindered performance. The app basically makes android run more efficiently, and it's made my SOT go from 3-3 1/2 hours to getting 6 hours. A friend of mine recommended it to me and I was a little skeptical but I am happy I spent the money on it. It also comes with some performance enhancing options, an internet booster, and a digitizer booster. These additional things actually do work, but in a much less dramatic way when compared to the battery saver feature. After first enabling it, I got 56 minutes of screen on time, and I dropped 10%.
Link- https://play.google.com/store/apps/...apps.android.boosterplusbatterysaverpro&hl=en
Again, please let me know anything I left out, and tell me what I should add to the list since I probably forgot some things. I'm not looking to take credit for anyone else's finds, so I'll be sure to add the username of the contributors of this guide to the OP. I hope this was a good start, and I can't wait to see how everyone else has improved their G4.

Using the powersave governor basically locks your phone to the slowest clockspeed it is capable of running at, and it does indeed introduce a lot of lag. The biggest problem with that is usually wake up times is significantly increased, leading to missed calls while you wait for the phone to respond after trying to accept.
I do agree that Greenify is a great tool, especially the premium add-on. SetCPU used to be big years ago, but these days most kernel devs say underclocking or undervolting is useless.

For wifi scan interval you can add this line to your build prop and enter the value you desire (in seconds)
wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=180
Change 180 to whatever you feel is appropriate for you

Greenify can be helpful, or you can make your own script for renicing apps. What we really need to see is a utility like "cpulimit" in Linux. Limiting the amount of cores a process like Chrome can use will go a long way. I'll download the source and see if I can cross compile it for Android. There may be an issue of launching app through it, but I think it would work out if the apps were launched via am.
As far as optimizations go with the phone, the biggest power saver I've seen was from undervolting the display voltage regulator on some Nexus phones. With some custom kernels, we might have this ability.

thanx alot

It never actually got to 6 hours because I charge my phone every day and it has yet to die on me in one day. I usually end the day at around 50% with about 3 hours of screen on time, so using that, I figure 6 hours if you let it get to 0%. Here's my screenshot where I end the day with 41% and 3 1/2 hours of SOT http://imgur.com/Nma3MEh

Then me on the other hand, I have to charge it mid day otherwise it will die in the early evening. If I don't charge it mid-day, around 4PM it will be at 40-60%.

Best rom for battery? Current rom burns 1% per minute.

Currently using latest calk rom I get about 2 hours using my phone for browsing thr internet at home. When 3g is turned on it drains even faster.
It has always been like this. If the phone is set on idle without 3g and wifi it lasts about 10 hours.
also it takes about 3 to 4 hours to fully charge, i feel this is too long.
so any rom that might help me? is the battery faulty?

Blazer ROM
why are you using your phone to browse all day long ? use a pc or a tablet. its a phone not a desktop pc. plus put it into airplane mode and then turn wifi on, it disables the cel/data radios hence the battery last longer. If your phone takes 3-4 hours to charge from 0-100 something is wrong with it. turn if off and charge it, cuts down charging time A LOT !
That is ridiculous. But I've been using Blazer Rom for about 2 weeks now and I always get 30 hours+ battery life. I just got 3.8 and I hit over 40 hours just this weekend.
well, um, wow, those are some ... great suggestions...
you might have a bad batt, sure.
i would think it is likely something else though.
a few things off the top of my head.
is this on a "clean install"?
is there some app you have loaded that might be pinging/updating constantly? (I'm on the exact same rom, getting all day at least)
what modem are you on?
did you flash a custom kernel?
do you know how to take a screenshot of battery usage? show us what processes are eating it?

Nice miracle rom, bet I could kill your phone in 6 hours using it . I get 20-30 hours on my days off. But no rom will make up for the amount of use one can put into their phone.

I get great battery life with Blazer 3.8.
Idk about 40 hours (WOW!) but I do get around 3-4%/hour battery drain so it's not bad at all.
Try re flashing the ROM. That sounds abnormally for ANY rom.

It could be a bad ROM (bad install, not the ROM itself), but don't presume that's the case.
Measuring whether the phone is draining appropriately is difficult to do when it's in active use (e.g., 2 hours of browsing) ; thus most people measure effective drain by measuring the drain rate when the phone is 'sleeping' -- though in some cases a bad app or bad install will prevent the phone from sleeping.
I would recommend charging the phone to full, leave all default radios on (GPS/Wifi/3g), and let it sit for an hour or two. If you're losing more than ~3-5%/hour, then you have a problem.
Tools you can use:
- CPU Spy - Will show you whether your phone is entering Sleep state or not
- Battery Monitor Widget Pro - will measure your mA drain rate; during sleep, you'd want it to be at least below 20mA, ideally below 10mA (note, this app requires a couple of charge/discharge cycles before its measurements are reliable).
- Better Battery Stats -- If you find your device is NOT sleeping, this will help you figure out what applications (including the kernel) may be preventing the device from sleeping.

Your point? I could kill my phone in 6 hours too, but why would I want to do that? I play games all the time when I'm out at work or just out in general and I still get over 24 hours of battery. I never use my phone when I'm at home, that's what I have my tv and computer for.
how long has it been since you flashed? Maybe it needs a few cycles to settle. Do you have any wake lock issues? get betterbatterystats app, free for xda members, to check for kernel or partial wake locks.
I'm on BlazerROM 3.7 and getting about 1% every 2 hours on idle. It took me a week to see the battery life i'm getting now. My wife is on calks 2.8.1, I don't know what shes getting but when she gets home from work, she's still around 50%. On stock, she was typically around 30% already.
how do you get betterbatterystats for free as an xda member?
I'm on blazers and i'm at 79% battery at the 7hr mark on battery.

I have seen this "mystery battery drain" problem in other threads. There is usually an app responsible. Try Watchdog, its not bad.
I also have heard that SD card or file errors can be responsible for the drain. Formatting the memory takes care of the problem. If it were me, I would format the memory, then run chkdsk (Windoze, or the equivalent in another OS) to mark bad sectors. In the case of internal memory, you will have to do that through the USB cable. Do so at your own risk, of course

The point is you walk into someones situation and act as if their usage of the device on whatever rom your on is going to produce a parallel experience. One of the biggest factors no matter the rom is screen brightness. If you spend most of your time out doors the experience is completely different even with the same usage patterns otherwise. I love screen brightness personally, haptic feedback is nice too who cares about the battery when the experience is better?
I have games on the phone, GTA III, MC2/3, Dead Space, etc. I don't actually play them. I remote into my PC, browser the web. I have a TON of apps that use the phone idle/background. I keep steam and im+ pro going. I let TEP ping GPS data every 10 minutes. Weather widget, google voice, etc. I even have Samsung Apps installed with its oh so horrible push service that apparently rapes peoples batteries... cant say it hurts at all.
Today was a day for me where my boss was around so I couldn't use the device much and when i did it meant leaving things like a remote client on because I couldn't touch it to turn it off. 52% battery was left after 12 hours so it obviously was going to survive the 16 hours I am awake, going to sleep now so it would easily last 24 hours. But the battery being Li-Ion and me actually caring about it, its going on the charger. Tomorrow could be 30 and the next day will probably be 8 hours.
As far as the topic is progressing. Check your apps and your settings. Ive had battery life so bad the phone died on the charger. Same rom, same apps slightly different setup later and I am getting good to acceptable and that constant wake this guy is probably getting is gone.
If your using a lot of push apps, you're battery becomes nothing more than a decoration, lol. Apps like aim, kik, basically all the chat ones. Games like words with friends. The more apps you have checking for updates on top of heavy usage with kill your battery fairly efficiently

Which personally was part of the issue before on my setup. I still have them going again and battery life is decent. I mean Id want 16 hours out of a phone surely whatever my day is Ill have it on a charger by bed time.
I personally usually get 12 hours or more on days Im not using it constantly, 6 to 8 if I am using it every waking second. 24+ on days off. Haven't tried blazer in particular myself yet but Calks seems manageable even for demanding use.

Tips to extend battery life with ICS

All,
In case you haven't noticed, the battery life of the Nitro HD is kinda bad... Then, when you add ICS into the mix, it gets worse.
When i first flashed the Leaked ICS ROM, I noticed that I was only getting about 8 to 9 hours of battery life with very light use. So, I endeavored to find a way to extend that time without buying an expensive extended battery.
Here are my findings:
GPS
Settings > Location Services
Now we all like the convenience of being able to pull out our phone and find the nearest gas station or fine dining experience. But when you think about it, in our day to day lives, we don't need directions that much.
GPS and Location Services are huge data and energy hogs. If you have ever seen how much can go on in the background when it comes to Location Services, you would cringe. So, set up your GPS like the screenshot below and you will see a little battery life improvement and data usage go down.
Display Brightness
Settings > Display > Brightness
On my Nitro, the display uses up the most energy by far. So, it only makes sense to lower the brightness a bit to save power.
Developer Options
Settings > Developer Options
The Nitro has a powerful 1.5GHz CPU which uses a ton of energy when in heavy use. Some of you might say, "But Matt, I don't use that many apps that need the CPU." Well, it's not that you use them. It's that the ones you have used are likely still running. For example, even though I always use the 'Exit' menu item in Slacker Radio, it will always show up as a running process in Task Manager.
In the Developer Options, there are a few useful ways to fix this problem.
First, check the box next to 'Don't keep activities'. This will cause whatever app you are using to stop completely as soon as it is not on the screen anymore. This is useful if you have the habit of using the 'Home' button when you are done with apps.
Next, set the 'Background process limit' to something other than the standard limit. I have mine set to 4 processes. This will keep processes that are not tied to any specific app in check.
If you use a lot of apps and games that have to render video, it might be a good idea to check the 'Force GPU rendering' box. This will force apps such as games to use the slightly less powerful GPU in the Nitro for video. Thus letting your CPU relax a bit. I have also noticed that heat doesn't build up as much with this box checked.
Lastly, if you want to know about more of the processes that hang in the background that may cause performance issues, you can check the 'Show all ANRs' box. Personally, I found it annoying.
Power Saver
Settings > Power Saver
I was really excited for this feature but also very skeptical. But, I gave it a try anyway. What this feature does is when your battery level gets to a certain percent that you choose, it will turn off power consuming features and change some settings to use less power. I have mine set to engage at 20% battery life.
The tips I have seen say to check every box. But, because of my profession, I have to have 'Auto-sync' left on for emails and such.
With the settings below, I usually see the last 20% of battery last about 4 to 5 hours of medium use.
CPU Clock
*Requires Root*
Unlike all the tips above, this one will require you to root your Nitro.
As I said before, the 1.5GHz CPU uses a ton of power. When you think about it, unless you are playing games all the time or doing some kind of complex calculation as part of your Quantum Physics experiment on you phone, you really don't need all that power. So, what I did was underclocked the CPU to 1GHZ. This gives me the power I need to do what I do but with more efficient energy consumption.
I used SetCPU for this but there are a few other choices out there that do the job just as good.
As you can see from the screenshot below, I have set the max frequency to 1026MHz and the min frequency to 384MHz (I have since set min to 192MHz). I set the governor to 'conservative' based on this post: LINK. But, I think that any of them will help in different ways.
If you are curious, I'm also inserting a screenshot of my benchmarks after the underclock.
CPU Sleep (Suggested by rani9990)
*Requires Root*
XDA user rani9990 suggested an app called CPU Sleeper that, essentially, puts additional cores into an offline mode while the screen is off.
I can see how this would be advantageous because when your phone is in sleep mode, it really doesn't need all that extra power.
I have had it on my phone since i got up this morning and have noticed a significant jump in battery life already.
Results
Before these tips, I was getting about 8 to 9 hours of medium use on a charge.
After, I get roughly 15 to 20 hours of medium use. (It varies from day to day but hovers between 15 and 20.)
If anybody has any other tips, please let me know so I can add them to the list.
You should also tell people to get CPU sleeper (root) saves tons of battery life for me.
Also, disabling haptic feedback saves battery.

Sadly, battery life on this phone really sucks even with the optimizations. having compared both, I can say that the Nitro HD with optimizations and 3800 mAh Hyperion battery gets about the same battery life as a Galaxy Nexus on the stock ROM and stock battery.

Perhaps check your running processes. With these tweaks in place, I unplugged my Nitro at 7:45is this morning and right now, at 2:15pm, I have 79% battery left and I've made two 15 to 20 minute phone calls and rebooted about 6 times because of some testing I've been doing for another thread.
Also, the Nitro does have a faster CPU that would take more power than the Nexus.
I have done all of this, in addition to in Settings/Wireless & networks there's "more..." click that and theres "Mobile networks".. and the option for "Use only 2g networks" I'm using that for only texting while at work and doing pretty decent with battery life. since 5:45 to now 10AM texting all throughout that time I'm at 85% battery.

i found many of these settings are available in cm9 and after making the changes, it appears to me they work very well. thanks again eh.
UPDATE: I refrained from plugging in my phone all day yesterday and got 14 hours and 32 minutes of medium to heavy use.
Sent/Recieved 191 text messages.
Spent 2 hours and 47 minutes on the phone.
Updated 7 apps from the Play Store.
Played Dead Space for roughly 35 minutes.
Checked Facebook 3 or 4 times.
Read a news article online.
I think the battery did pretty good this time around.
Thanks for helpful tips!
The only problem I got is that the screen turned to back (with music still on) when I started NinjaJump with "Force GPU rendering'" checked.
You don't want force GPU rendering checked...

What I`ve noticed is that when I set Brightness to 100% I have 3...3,5 hours of wake working screen active time before battery exhausted. It's on ICS leak V18F. But if I set brightness to 30% or "auto" mode I got about 2....2,5max hours of screen active, it exhausts quicker
And secondly, on CM9 it helps me to check off "surface dithering" in 'performance' options. But on official ROMs we haven't this option available to tweak
I found that JuiceDefender has seriously saved me a whole lotta battery. Like seriously. I was getting 12 hours of medium to heavy usage before, and now i can hit 30 hours of medium usage. Then again, Data isn't turned on for me, I use the phone for Wifi and Calling.

For me keeping the wifi on (and thus connecting via wifi both at home and in the office) allows me to save battery..
To me it seems strange, because my old phone literally sucked battery while keeping wifi on, but on the nitro wifi consumes less than hsdpa data transfer.
I've added a link to my SetCPU Profiles file in the guide.
low antutu battery benchmark scores
Both stock and CM9 RC2 are disappointing: 250 and 328 respectively. I've applied the suggestions here and don't know if I'm doing something wrong.
I was rather happy with my phone with GB managed by Battery Defender from Infolife. I used to have 1,5 day with "Mostly Idle" usage. Now after upgrade to ICS I just got 10% down per hour on idle. So disappointed. I'll play with your settings a while. May be Battery Defender uninstall/reinstall can help too...

Never understood some people's philosophy on extending battery life.

I've read a lot of posts complaining about battery life, and other posts about users suggesting ways to improve battery life. I've read stuff like, disable LED, haptic feedback, lower volume, lower brightness, LTE turned off, underclocking, turning off sync, live wallpapers, etc, etc. To me a lot of people are crippling their phones. If your battery can last you 10 hours, that's enough because you'll probably be somewhere you can plug in. What's the point of being able to go for 20 hours when you'll probably have the opportunity to charge it before then? It's better to have and enjoy all the features.
Maybe somebody can chime in and give me their point of view.

I agree. I would never want to sacrifice a feature just to extend the phone's battery life. Instead I use a custom rom that has all the features (and more) and 12 to 18 hours of battery life.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Part of the issue is a sociological thinking pattern between wanting "more" and needing it. Depending upon the type of lifestyle you live, sometimes, battery life is of dire importance to have if you're constantly migrating around. But I agree, some people who aren't in that sort of disposition go overboard with it.
I just bought a bigger battery :good:
I agree wholeheartedly. If your battery is lasting you through your day (which mine does, and more) then why try to conserve it?
Yea its funny stuff people complain their battery only lasts 20 hrs but yet they want it to be able to do everything a computer can do and more....
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda premium
The only conscious effort i made to extend my battery life was to undervolt the CPU a bit, but this was more for the lower temperature advantages with extra battery life being an added bonus. Beyond that i turned off things i dont use like BT, no need having something running that i have no use for. Overall i was happy with the stock battery except for any kind of heavy video or game usage which drains it pretty quick - solution : bigger F'n battery :highfive:
i agree that some people seem a bit obsessive about it. but we shouldn give bad battery life a pass either. hopefully we will see some sort of advancement in batteries to have better battery life while keeping them at a decent size.
i was kinda worried id have horrible battery life with the S3 being that its LTE. my last LTE phone was so bad it would die after 8 hours idle.

I keep the brightness to the lowest setting anyway, but I do all of this because I go to school fairly far from my home, and I'd like to be able to play games on my phone without wasting 5% battery every 15 minutes. I haven't switched power saving off since I bought the phone.
Stock ICS on my S3
I bought the extended battery because I like playing games from time to time and I don't want tl have to worry about my phone dropping 15% after playing something for 5 minutes. Like someone else said earlier. It really depends on the kind of lifestyle you live. I for one don't mind having the extended battery on my phone but I do miss how light it used to be.

How heavy is it? Does it fit in a case?
For me, and I want as much battery life as possible to avoid those situations where there is no way to charge you phone even if that only happens 1 a month or less.. As a parent I can't just let my phone die on me... I always need enough to be able to take or make that important calls/text. My goal is to have at least 20-30 hours of battery life per charge.
I think the only major feature I've given up is live wall paper. Other then that, it is just disabling other unused apps like gtalk, talkback, Google bookmarked sync. As well I've uv my phone as much as I can and run a 1350 max clock speed. I really don't see any major dip in performance as long as you do it right . I do use Tasker to disable syncing globally when the screen is off and make sure it automatically disable bluetooth after 10 mins once it disconnect. Also I have the Y5 app to automatically toggle wifi based off my network location. The most useful battery saver I've found is to set my wifi to only connect when the screen is on. Seems kind of backwards but it works well when very little data is process during idle rather the the phone requiring to keep a constant connection to wifi.

I'm also one of those people that closes an app as soon as I'm done with it. Use an app, press the home button, release and hold home, swipe the app away, sigh in relief. An old habit carried from my S2 Skyrocket, where getting 8 hours on stock was above average.

I have my screen brightness at 40-50 auto off.. i cant imagine turning it all the way down like alot of people say.. even when auto brightness is on it look very dull and dark at night to me.. Same thing for my tv with auto brightness.. but i still get good battery life. I am fully charged at about 6pm i use it till bedtime and use it for my alarm.. get up 4 am and when i get home at 2pm its still over 40%.. only thing i do is close all my running apps by holding home button a few times a day and same with ram
I work in an office so it's plugged in for the 2 hours before I leave so I have everything on full most of the day (brightness, lte...). Also, by undervolting I'm getting 30% more battery.
I think tips on increasing battery life like turning off lte and brightness are for people who can't plug in throughout the day or for emergency situations when you want to get the most out of your phone because there's some reason you can't charge.

I get anywhere from 12 - 23 hours depending on whether I'm at work or off. I can live with that...but there are situations where being unreachable poses a problem.
So, to deal with my phone addiction, I got an original replacement battery. Always have it charged and on me. When the phone shuts down, pop in the replacement and your done. About a minute without a phone. This way I don't have to UV, worry about brightness, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc...
I can't deal with the bulk of an extended battery.

30% more battery by simply undervolting? I think that's quite an overstretched statement. How is that even possible?

Its not possible. Not by solely UVing. The sole purpose of undervolting is so that your phone dosent overheat when running high clock speeds. Saving battery is just a perk. You might save a few percent with the undervolt but nowhere around 30%. But don't take my word for it.....

Battery Reducing Quickly?

Hello everyone, new to the forum since I just picked up my note 10+ and thiught this forum seemed more knowledgeable than others for battery issues or issues in general. I dont really know if it's an issue but I'm curious of how others people batteries are acting for their note 10+'s. Mine died a few hours ago and once it hit 100% I removed the charger and didn't use it for just over an hour and I noticed my battery went down to 2%. I have my always on screen on of course, most of the apps were dead and I did optimize the battery in the settings while my phone was charging then stopped using it until it charged fully. So I had no apps open and I had a version of battery saving on. I did medium but left the higher res screen on including the cpu at 100%. Would this cause my battery to go down 2% in an hour without any use?
For a side question, is there a better way to get the most out of your battery? I always thought it was let it die everyone inna while but I read recently charging it to 80 then letting it down to 60 and back up to 80 and repeat is the best? If that's true, how do you keep that up and how long will you need to keep that before normal chargers?
Thanks. Hope someone can help
If it went down 2% in an hour, that's 50 hours of standby plus always on display. That's crazy good.

Best way to go is using normal charge an never let the battery drop below 20% forget about trying to maintain certain range (60-80), it will just drive you crazy

If I put my iPad mini to sleep at 100%, I wake up the next morning with 100%. Maybe 99. But usually 100.
That's not the norm, and it's not perfect apples to apples, but it is possible.
Also, 2 days of standby with zero use is not unusual, but definitely not "crazy good".

Wow that is unusual. Do a search for "sleeping apps" in setting and add all the apps you don't need running in the back ground. Also in device care > battery you can see what app is using your battery.

So besides that little fight you had with the other forum member (lol) I appreciate your comment. But there seems to be back and forth, one other person says its good, another says its not. (the one I quoted below). Just seems weird to me that with no open or running apps and just the always on display running that it went down in an hour in 2%. Searching around, people saying losing 1% In an hour with the same set up, no running apps with AOD is bad. I kind of agree since its not truly in use. But unfortunately I cannot find any battery standby tests from Samsung or anyone else to confirm it.

I agree with you more honestly that it shouldn't be going down that fast in an hour with just the AOD running. I didn't have any apps running once it 100%, I was on it while charing it to around 50% but then once I knew I was putting it down for a while I ran the optimization and had the phone kill all the apps. When I saw it go down the 2% I did check out the apps using the battery and the AOD was the only thing listed. Maybe I didn't charge to a full 100%? even though it said 100%... Ill check it out tomorrow once I charge it fully again, today I was charging it up and down most of the day sadly. I try and keep most apps from not running in the background, some I do need though like for my IoT devices needing to know my location, I have yet to change that to just using LTE as my location GPS, but that was not on last night all. Ill try out the sleeping apps though, I didn't know there was a setting for that. Thanks again
AOD typically consumes 1%~2% in my past note devices(7,8,9)

Battery optimization takes a little bit so if you just started using the phone give it a few days.
Also, package disabler or ADB can be used to turn off any major things that you are not using (i.e. Bixby or DeX).
Regarding Cell life: Yes between about 30% and 80% are the optimal percents. That doesn't mean try and always keep it there, that would just be silly and unrealistic.
However, it is important to be conscious of this. For example, don't leave your phone on the charger for days on end sitting at 100%. Don't leave your phone in a drawer or a backpack with 0% in the cells.
Cells are technically damaged (or worn would be a better word) every cycle. The most damage comes from when the voltage drops to its lowest point and its highest point. (i.e. 0% and 100%)
For example, if someone were to charge a LiPo or Li-Ion battery only between 30% - 80% for an entire year and another person with the same phone always went down to 1% and always to 100%, the latter phone would have more cell wear thus it would not hold as much power.
Once you learn of this and become conscious of this then you tend to adjust your habits. All other myths and theories about battery calibration have really not been a thing in many many generations of Android. While you can screw up battery calibration through a service menu, rarely (if at all) a battery loses calibration. Most people start seeing battery wear and think its a calibration issue and then seek ways to fix this. At that point, it cannot be achieved because there is a physical change to their battery which can only be refreshed by getting a new battery.
Reporting my battery life. I guess this is truly an all day device.
Give it a couple days to settle. The first three days, mine got pretty bad battery life. Then yesterday I got almost 10 hours of screen time after using it pretty heavy all day. Mixture of Facebook (battery hog), Internet, texting, emailing, and using the camera (also a battery hog). What finally killed the battery was me downloading, installing, and uninstalling multiple versions of GCam trying to find one that worked well enough to use. I finally found one before my phone hit 0%.

In an hour? Last night I even scheduled it off and had no running apps and medium power saving mode fully on and lost 5% battery in roughly 7 hours with no use.

This is useful, thank you. Never knew not discharging device is the way to go but we all learn new things every day. I'm at 65% right now, when waking up at 6am with 95%. Wireless android auto for about an hour, plus okay-ish use. Ill make sure to charge it up to around 80% tonight.

I just wanted to throw my two cents in here... My battery life is pretty terrible in comparison to my S10+. Trying to find a rogue app of some sort but I just hit 1% with 12 hours off the charger. Keep in mind that is not 12 hours of use. In fact I used it for about an hour of total screen time today.

Yeah I came from an S10+ and noticed my battery on the N10+ was pretty bad in comparison.
I did restore everything from my S10+ though, not a clean install of everything.
Wonder if that may be causing issues.
Is everyone having problems on Verizon?
Quote " Last night I even scheduled it off and had no running apps and medium power saving mode fully on and lost 5% battery in roughly 7 hours with no use."
Unless you put it in airplane mode, your phone will keep connected to cell tower (or wifi if you have wifi calling) otherwise you won't receive calls and messages, so there is no such thing as phone with no use, and if you have weak signal or some interference your battery usage can increase drastically even in standby because the cell radio will try to connect at full transmit power. And then you have all those programs running in the background, God knows what they're doing. As others suggested disable programs you don't use, also you can force close programs that you don't use often. When I had my older Note rooted, I optimized it so well it would run 2% down per 8 hrs overnight, but it took some effort. Biggest problem is to know what to disable without loosing functionality for stuff you need. Give it some time for people to learn more about new phone. BTW my 3 day old phone has 435 apps and services installed and most of them I have no idea what they do.

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the OnePlus 8 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Pretty impressed with battery life. And that was with heavy usage : installation of a lot of apps/mods, downloads through games, videos (especially 1h under direct sunlight).
I know it's not representative of a normal day because of the quarantine but I found it really good.
Can anyone else post screenshots? In the YouTube reviews they indicate very different battery consumption among them. 5:30 some, others 8:30
Will post more screenshots after more usage...

Battery life and charging cycle question
Hey Buddy,
May I ask how do you charge your OnePlus 8 phone? All the way to 100% or less? Do you keep it charging on even if its at 100?
Slightly over 4 hours of SOT with 50% battery left.
Impressive and slightly better than what I was getting on my 8 Pro.
Not bad. I'm also using xXx Magisk and ElementalX Kernel.

It depends on which apps you have installed and how you use them. Therefore, results will vary from person to person. To give you some guidelines, this is what I do:
I use GPS and location services sparingly instead of leaving them on
Google app and Google Assistant are disabled, along with some Google analytics
I use a Chromium-based web browser, such as Kiwi instead of Chrome itself
I debloat unused apps that would otherwise just sit there, wasting space
I typically charge the phone to full while it's off and uninterrupted
Touchboost is disabled
Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot. I took some of your tips without impacting what I expect from the phone and it made quite a difference. I had too many apps that I was simply not using. And some applications that were polling my location too much for no reason. I'm also using dark mode as I'm actually enjoying it. I almost didn't change anything but it really shows that if you do some minor tweaks and remove aps you're not using you end up with enough battery to last a full day comfortably.
Really surprised. Attaching my new SOT.
This was a more demanding usage of the phone than my previous post but surprisingly I got 30% more battery then before.
And this while playing COD for almost half an hour.:victory:

SoT is just pefect. And don't worry it's the same everywhere, look :
I think something wrong is going on,poor SOT,never had I pass 5.5 hours of SOT.
Not the longest SOT but I can easily stay multiple days on one charge when using my phone 2-3 hours a day. The flat parts in the plot are the nights when my phone was on airplane mode.
I also had some pretty good experiences while using my phone as a hotspot. This used to drain the batteries of my previous phones quickly but with the OP8 I can easily share connection 2-3 hours and still have the battery last me at least for the day. (Not included in the screenshot)
One plus 8
I get abt 10 hrs
I get abt 10 hrs
My last post was quite poor in infos so I'll detail more this time. Using it one day, you can have up to 10h SoT, using it throughout the days will give you around 8 hours SoT.
I've done two things: used my phone for two days of normal use (at home, playing videogames for about 2h a day because I had no friends to hang out with :crying and got three days of lite use (1h gaming per day or less because I had friends this time :victory, 7h SoT
To sum up: using it over the days will reduce SoT, but overall the battery is really good
Here some pics :
Double post
I dont know if it is normal, or not. But forexample, i chatge phone OP8 full, and i use it, lets say until 50% of battery, then i connect phone to PC to transfer some files. and if i check after battery it said that it is full charged 5 min before, and it stay 50%
