Dev version to Tmobile US version - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Odd question but I have the Developer edition. I use it on T-mobile and just out of curiosity was wondering if it's possible to convert it to a T-mobile variant. I mostly am wondering because of wifi calling and volte. I know most people want to do the opposite, but I figured I'd ask. If it's possible to convert a T-mobile version to developer than I figured it could be done the other way. Any info would be much appreciated! Thank you!

You sure can. S-Off using sunshine. Change the mid to 0PJA12000 and cid to T-MOB010. Then flash the official Tmobile ruu from http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_...01_81.03.50702G_F_release_445023_signed_2.exe

As long as you don't root (or touch the system partition), you'd get OTA's from T-mobile automatically.

No problem, enjoy! Also, if you'd like to see the OTA for yourself, flash an older T-Mobile RUU ( http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_...51_68.08.50320G_F_release_428184_signed_2.exe ) and check for updates to get to the latest version.

I agree with effortless I have done this with both of my m9's. What I did was after s-off and bootloader unlock I changed mid and cid. But instead of flashing the RUU right away I flashed the 1.32 no-wipe firmware from here. after that I ran the 1.32 RUU and after that I accepted the ota.
Not only will you get the volte and wifi calling but my reception went from 3 bars to full bars. was definitely worth the headache.

You change them via fastboot in download mode (after you S-OFF).
To change CID: fastboot oem writecid T-MOB010
To change MID: fastboot oem writemid 0PJA12000

Best to use the ruu zip and rename it to 0PJAIMG.zip then put on root of ext sd them go into download mode. I don't use exe file because you don't want to be flashing like that and the electricity shut off while bootloader is flashing

So let me make sure I got everything I need to do.
1. I should be able to root because the bootloader should already be unlocked so root the phone.
2. S_off using sunshine
3. Change mid and cid with a pc
4. use the file from the google drive link and flash that from download mode
I miss anything?

Thread moved - BUT - please clarify which Phone you are asking about. The HTC ONE could be M7 or M8 or Mini etc.
When asking questions, it would help others if you provide sufficient information to enable a response.

Sorry, it's an M8 (thought it was assumed since we are in the m8 forum). In addition, since I'm running the ATT version but on Tmobile, will any OTA updates still come from ATT? It still goes out to ATT when i check for updates (it appears). Thanks.

You need to be connected to the AT&T network to get AT&T updates.
Not sure if it will work or not to get the T-Mob OTAs, but you probably at a minimum need to restore to stock T-Mobile ROM and recovery, and change to the proper CID (or SuperCID or S-off?).
Stock nandroid and recovery can be found here (believe your CID is TMOB010, but please confirm): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
Alternately, you should be able to s-off and run the T-Mob RUU: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714456

In theory, the nandroid backups I pointed you to are stock ROM, just they are nandroids made by XDA members.
The only way to get a more "official" stock ROM is the RUU I already linked.

Once bootloader unlocked and rooted, you should be able to use fastboot to change CID:
fastboot oem writecid *******
(replace ******* with desired CID)
then to confirm:
fastboot getvar cid
Does the Tmobile rom need to be flased before changing CID?

Not sure, you may actually need to change CID first (in order to restore the nandroid). But no, changing the CID is not dependent on the ROM. You can actually change it to whatever you want (with root).
No, the nandroid is not a .img, its a zip file you need to extract, then place the folder in the right location as outline in Post #2 of the nandroid collection.
BTW, according to the nandroid collection its actually T-MOB010 (I forgot the hyphen in my previous post).

You need to be in fastboot mode for fastboot commands.
Boot into bootloader and select fastboot. Or: adb reboot fastboot

Can't get wifi to work/can't figure out which firmware to use

I have an AT&T HTC M8, I believe it is on 4.4.2, and I tried flashing ARHD and got the dreaded no wi-fi problem, and I can't figure out for my life which firmware to use that will let me use wi-fi. I've been looking through the internet since 2 AM this morning, so any help would be great.

I'm stuck at the "4. Boot into hboot and READ, INTERNALIZE, & then EXECUTE and let it update its firmware."
How do I read, internalize, and execute it? The directions for this are very scattered.
Im assuming your phone is S-OFF?
Before this, was your phone updated by any OTA's? This is just to confirm that you were on 4.4.2.
I am S-off, but yes, firewater told me I took an OTA (must have happened before I bought the phone) so I had to use Sunshine or whatever, now I'm S-off and don't know what to do next.

When you reboot the phone to bootloader you'll notice a couple of options that you can select one of them is "HBOOT" I think it's written in blue.
Select it with the volume up or down key and press power to go in, it'll then show a scrolling of I think it's green text where it's looking for files on sd card. It should pick up your renamed firmware file and give you option to update with it.
Hmm, I moved the renamed file (renamed to 0P6BIMG.zip) to external SD through TWRP, but when I go into Hboot, it doesn't do anything. I feel like it's something obvious.

Maybe try and move it to internal storage. Check that it's named correctly, a ZERO (0) and not a O <Capital o... Make sure it's .zip and not .zip.zip else...

Well that's logical isn't it? AT&T doesn't use x.xx.401.x. Even if you do flash the latest 3.x firmware on your device you'll probably have problems seeing as the radio's are different.
Rather go with the Developer Edition 3.x firmware. AT&T and Dev Edition share same radio, MID etc. It's the 3.28.1540.5 firmware you can find it in the OTA zip collection.
OTA ZIP COLLECTION
Just download the OTA and extract the firmware.zip file from the OTA.zip. If you flash the 3.28.401.x you might have issues with LTE etc

Bricked htc one m9 (urgent help!!)

Hi guys. I just bricked my HTC one m9. I was trying to get it back to stock while I had a custom rom, and I set s-on back to true and locked the bootloader..
Fastboot DOES work.
I cannot enter the custom recovery mode, it says that it failed to boot to recovery.
I cannot boot into my custom rom.
I DO have an SD card. I tried to flash the RUU "0PJAIMG.zip", but it said "failed to flash downloadzip" and didn't flash..
What should I do at this point? I don't want $700 down the drain
1) What is your CID?
2) you flash RUU via SDcard?
3) If you ever got your phone back to normal. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TURN S-OFF BACK TO TRUE, AND LOCKED YOUR BOOTLOADER. BECAUSE ITS NOT NEEDED AT ALL.
I tried to flash an RUU via SD card, but it gave me that error posted above.
My CID is 11111111

If you're using the SD Card method it doesn't matter at all whether your bootloader is locked or not. And as long as the RUU is the same version as your actual firmware (or if the RUU is newer) it doesn't matter whether your phone is S-ON or S-OFF.
The SD card has to be formated to fat32 and mustn't be bigger than 32gb. Copy the RUU to the main directory of the card and rename it to "0PJAIMG.zip" (that's a zero not an O). If you then put the card back into your phone and reboot to download mode you just have to follow the instructions on the phone's screen.
Let's say I were to flash the wrong firmware version RUU (which I did, and the installation failed), would it say something like "failed to flash zip downloadzip", because that's what it said.

Which method did you use? If you used the SD Card method: Are file extensions visible on your pc? If not the file may be named "0PJAIMG.zip.zip" now...
I used the SD card method, but the firmware version was wrong. I just want to know if it would stop me with an error, instead of actually installing the RUU.

Since you're S-ON you can't harm your phone with a "wrong" RUU. If it's incompatible it simply won't flash.
Edit with some alternative solutions: There is a RUU.exe for your specific firmware on ir-file. But you need to pay if you want to download there. (At least if there is no xda member who already has an account and is willing to help.) Or you try this RUU Service. But that one isn't for free, either.

Ohh my, locked and Son...May the force be with you...always.
I do believe the only option would be to download a Ruu-EXE from HTC Developers and run it from PC, also phone must connected in download mode or recovery, hopefully you do it for good.................
OR.....................................MAKE USE OF THE UH-OH GUARANTEE, step the phone under the water for 20 mins or crush the screen and take it to your vendor, they should replace phone with no questions for one completly new as guarantee states!!!!!
In Mexico, Telcel they do Honor this special guarantee

I could be wrong but I would say it should work. I don't see a reason why it shouldn't.

Sounds like the phone is rooted or the system has otherwise been modified. If so, you need to ruu, or restore an unmodified system image backup (I doubt you have one or you wouldn't be asking for help) to return to stock before ota will work.

Read this thread. It will help you return to stock ago you can update using ota. But honestly, if you don't know what an ruu is, it's probably over your head.

Either you use a RUU or you use a TWRP Backup. Both can be found in my signature.

I didn't said anything about a downgrade.
As I said, the link with the files is in my signature. (Alternatively click here.)

Rename the file to 0PJAIMG.zip, copy it to the root directory of a SD card which is not bigger than 32 gb and formated to fat32, put the card into your phone and boot to Download Mode. The rest will explained on the screen of your phone.

Not as far as I know.
The firmwares are the same. Just wait for marshmallow. The last digit is how many attempts to push to device so at best it only has a stagefright patch so its not really worth the hassle.
I wish I stole my HTC M9.

You are aware of the fact that version 2.10.709.6 already exists and that the M9 installs OTAs incrementally, aren't you? That makes one update from 1.40.709.4 to 1.40.709.8, one from 1.40.709.8 to 2.10.709.1 and a third one from 2.10.709.1 to 2.10.709.6 which are currently not installed on that phone. So I would say it is worth the hassle to update that device. (Besides I would say it's not a real hassle at all. Restoring a TWRP backup or flashing a RUU aren't too difficult tasks. )
