Problem with IMEI and signal - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Hello I bought an used ATT Note4 unlocked and I use it with TMobile. I have two problems maybe related. I have very low signal and the phone dont connect in my home and my previous phones didnt have that problem. In works in other places but you know it disconnects inside buildings and low signal areas. I was thinking in flash a TMobile modem and I think its not possible. The other problem is the IMEi that shows in settings is not the same as the sticker behind the battery so something has be done to the phone. Its possible to fix the IMEI to the real one?
Thanks a lot.

It might be a fake, install cpu z and compare the hardware results to a real one

[Q] Bad Reception Madness

Hi all,
I have bought a couple Motorola Defy [T-Mobile - unlocked] from NegriElectronics and the phone is a great phone. The Big problem that I am having is that the signal strength that this phone is showing is always VERY low as compared to my T-mobile G2 that I also bought from negri and unlocked.
The first defy i left it at stock 2.1 @ 2.34.1
The other defy I flashed 3.4.2-155-2 Motorola SBF with RSD Lite.
The flashed defy show a 4dBm increase to the original but it still crappy
Everything in the phone works, and it is fast. But the Bloody reception drops to one bar and sometimes go into Emergency Call Mode.
I'm in Trinidad in the Caribbean and it is not the sim or the carrier because i placed the sim in my G2 and it gets full bars.
What can I do to improve the reception on my Defy's?????
THANKS
I had same problem. This fixed it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944258
I hope UNRAFA's solution works for you, but if it doesn't... just because your SIM works in the G2 doesn't necessarily mean it will work in the Defy. Not sure why. When I bought my Defy I had recently upgraded my SIM and it worked for a while -- then went off the rails reception-wise. T-Mo had me upgrade to a uicc SIM and that solved the problem. At least for me.
Actually the Chinese had made a baseband switcher apk which collected nearly 20 baseband settings of various defy roms worldwide. Unfortunately it has no English translation.
Hi All,
It has nothing to do with the sim (I am sure) and the Chinese application i cannot read
Is there any other tweaks that I can do to help the reception?
Seriously, the link i gave you contains all the information, the basebands, BaseBandSwitcher.apk to install and do it with a click, every option is in chinese but it got a number next to it matching the firmware version, and i think its prety much universal numbers and easy to guess, but yet a translation of every option of the program has been posted..
And yes, there are other options to get better 3g editing build.prop but despite good reports from people, that has not been proved to actually increase 3g speed and i wouldn't recommend doing that.
Compared to my Samsung Vibrant 2G reception was very poor out on rural interstates, but perfectly fine in the city and it has much better 3G reception than the Vibrant. I think there was a problem with my original.. I got a new one and I will be testing it out soon.
Ok, I see the baseband thing you were talking about, tried it, but i seem to get an increase of 4dBm on the signal
BTW, there is NO 3G here, just 2.5G/EDGE, hence I dont really care about the Internet speed. I just need a better reception.
I compared this phone to the 3 Nokias in the household and all the nokias were showing 5 bars, while the Defy was at 2
Something is really messed up with this. Is there any way to manually increase the tX and rx power of the radio ????
I'm on Pays 5.0 and still not much difference with the new radio/sbf
Baseband 3g fixes, not only fixes 3g speed, it fixes reception too. Just apply the fix for your country and you are done, theres also ZERO danger for your phone, you can apply patches one over another untill you get the one that best works for you.
An easy test is switch between "2g only , or 3g only" and watch reception bars for voice calls. If you have 3g slow speed or bad reception, you need a patch.
RE: On Chinese baseband switcher apk
Yo folks,
Check out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12040851&postcount=71
I guess this translation is better then nothing right.
FYI I already tried it, seems there's some improvement but not that significant, but hey every region has different network quality right?
Ciao
Of course... you could have a bad phone.

Is anyone else having signal issues? Possible baseband update?

I recently purchased a samsung captivate glide and I have noticed very spotty coverage and dropped cell connections. Whenever I am indoors I cannot get a signal. The cell reception is very sensitive and constantly shows no connection. I was unsure if anyone else was having this problem?
I found another thread that had a loose sim card issue and attempted the fix but this did not work. I've also tried my sim in another phone in which i had no problem with cell reception. I've relashed the ROM and Kernal multiple times, rooted, unrooted, nothing seems to fix my reception issue... I was not sure i there was a baseband update or I just have faulty hardware. I'm eager to get this phone working at full capacity. How can I get it working properly?
Pertinent Info:
Android Version 2.3.5
Basband Version I927UCKI3
Kernal Version 2.6.36.3

Sounds like status quo for AT&T
On a serious note; I am not having any such issues here in southern Louisiana where I usually don't get anything but Extended; rarely ever see 3G.
Been looking around for more information. I'm going to try and get a new sim and see what happens. Looks like i'm stuck for the time being :/

Try pulling the battery cover and see if your SIM card is loose? I've advised for a couple different folks having signal issues the same thing, nobody else seems to have the same problem I did - using a smartphone SIM, it looked like the metal cage for the SIM card was a millimeter too large in width and height, I used some strong clear tape to hold the SIM in place and havent had any issues since...
HTH!

//Edit - I need to read the _ENTIRE_ post before replying - sorry, I'm fresh out of ideas if the loose SIM card wasn't the problem :\ -tidE\\
Ok I take no credit for this, but felt bad about the useless post above, crawled a couple more posts this morning, and it looks like mariol66 may have found another solution -

Weak reception with one carrier

Hey! Sorry for the title, I don't know if it's clear. But anyway, I already know that Nexus's signal is a known hardware problem, but I don't know if mine qualifies as one of the them.
I'm from Venezuela and my Nexus was bought directly from the Play Store, so it's OEM and it's the GSM vesion. Since I got it I have noticed bad reception mostly in my house. I usually get about 1 bar and sometimes it even drops the connection (with 17h on battery, it showed "Time without a signal: 58%" in Cell Standby). In other parts of the City, I get very good reception, just not in my house. But yesterday I tried with another Sim Card, from another carrier, and the signal was strong (HSDPA:8, by the way, not EDGE)!
Considering what I wrote, what do you think that means? Is my Nexus just bad? Is it my carrier? Although I don't think it is as there are 3 different phones (one BlackBerry, one Nokia and one Sony) with the same carrier and none of them has this problem.
I'm running stock Jelly Bean, by the way.
It means that one carrier has better coverage at your house... and the problem is exaggerated by the GNex not having the best radios in the world.
I guess that's it! I might change of carrier, since this is somewhat anoying, and I even thought of buying another Nexus and see if it was a hardware problem, but I think it is what you say.
Thanks!

s4 mini duos network problems

Hello,
I appeal to all the users that have samsung galaxy s4 mini duos (i9192) to give me a honest opinion on their experience usage about this issue
I want to buy the phone because i have 2 sims, work and home and need both always on but i've been read that this phone has major problems with network signal such as:
"Poor network performance. I'm forced to restart 4 to 5 times per day to regain the network access. I checked from my service providers, no issues on their part. Dual Sim a failure. Apart from network issues, the design, ram performance are average. I'll recommend not to buy this instrument unless the dual-sim network problem is rectified."
Like this, there are many more in samsung phone forum.
Anyone can give me their opinion?
False. I'm using it without problems with two sims work/private. Signal strength may be lower, but it's not so bad. Device is very fast, in antutu it has more points than 4 core htc one x+ or galaxy s3.
Software is bit buggy, but nothing serious.

Thanks for the quick answer.
Yes, i have read many reviews and all shows very good results. But if you go to http://reviews.in.samsung.com/7463-en_in/GT-I9192ZWAINU/samsung-galaxy-s4-mini-reviews/reviews.htm you will see the very bad opinions.
Seems that the phone in bad coverage areas lost signal and don't regain signal unless you restart the phone or the network. Have you already been in bad coverage areas?
It will regain signal. For example yesterday - I was in underground parking lot and signal was very poor to none, but somehow I've got the incoming call when moving to other spot.
Maybe it's firmware related. I've updated manually to amh2 version through odin. Mine new csc is ser - Russia

Anyone else that has not experienced this problems?
I would like to know this also, I'm considering buying it solely because of the "Dual Sim" but I keep reading lots of people complaining about the signal issues.
I dont have any problems with my I9192 been in my hands for 2 months by now the network problem you describe it's very rare just couple of times since I've been using it but I've turn on and off airplane mode
for me it's a really good phone

Same problem
I also have the duos version. Once the signal is lost/falls in the dead spot region, it doesn't come back a automatically. Fed up with this.. after buying such a high end phone, restarting all the time to get network! What is the use of fast processor and all stuff if we can't make a phone call with it? And after reading the comments on the below page, it is clear that this is a known issue of the model:
gsmarena.com/samsung_i9190_galaxy_s4_mini-reviews-5375.php
Any solution for this? The handset has turned out to be useless.
I have not had a problem like this with mine, it works perfect. I live in a bad signal area and if I go down stairs in my house the phone will lose the signal , when I go back up stairs the phone always regains the signal with no problems.
I can't fault this phone, it's ten times better than my last one, HTC Desire V

Thanks,
Only the fact that you mentioned you have to do airplane mode 2 times is just severe enough, because in a phone with this price range that's a problem that should NEVER occur, and you can be the lucky guy that just has good coverage signal all of the time.
I came to the conclusion that it happens with much moore models than the ones that not happen.
I'm going to order the phone even with this feedback hoping that i have a flash of luck and my phone doesn't have the problems, because i've been waiting months for a dual sim phone with top performance and this seems to be the ideal phone to me.
I will post my experience here, if anything goes wrong i will try to sell it.

Same Issue with Samsung GT-I9192
Hi All,
I am facing the same issue with my Samsung GT-I9192, which I purchased on 1st Sep.
I am using 2 simcards, one being Vodafone and the other Idea, India region.
Surprisingly the issue is only with Vodafone, where the signal after dropping (very frequently) does not refresh.
In case of Idea simcard, the signal refresh is working fine.
I am not able to understand if the problem is with the service provider, sim card, hardware or the software.
I used my vodafone simcard with Galaxy Core (another dual sim phones), and they seem to work fine,
which gets me all the more confused.
The only difference that I notice is in the Mobile Network Type.
Its EDGE:2 for Vodafone and UMTS:3 for Idea, wonder if this has got anything to do with the network issues.
I did the default available 2 firmware upgrades since purchase, they seem to have worsened the problems.
Let me know if you are facing the same issue, with the same service provider.
Need to keep a close watch on the solution, as it seems to be affecting more people than expected, surprisingly couldn't find any issues a month back during the time of purchase....
Regards,
Varun

In my case, it's Vodafone also, but is in Western Europe.
My concern is that i have exactily the same problem in my present phone (Sony Tipo Dual) and it's the main reason (along side the big improve of speed and etc) for buying this phone. At the present, people call to me and they say that phone answers occupied (no network signal) and i look to the phone and it shows top signal strenght. I'm beginning to think that dual sim phones with android have some limitations (maybe antenna limitations).

thats true it should never occur, i think its implementation problem, android its not mean to be for dual sim phones the solution for dual sim on android its a samsung workarround, it should not be buggy but has some problems it does not make the phone unusable for me, I don't get coverage all the time, I travel from city to city and get poor coverage all the way so i think its not a big issue since it happen just a few times.

Hi Sriram,
My problem is very similar, Vodafone on either sim slots gives network problems, and Idea on either sim slots works fine. That makes me think that the problem must be hardware / software related to Network type. Its EDGE2 for vodafone and GPRS1 for Idea. What is the network type of your sim cards?
Phone defect.. Not related to Sim card

I use idea in the first slot and BSNL in the second slot. The trouble occurs with BOTH SIM. Earlier I used idea -Vodafone pair, the problem was still there. I live in am area where all operators have weak/varying coverage. Airtel and aircel have already been reported as showing same problem. All the users are affected with this issue, so it is clear that this has nothing to do with the operator, it is a fault of the phone either hardware or software. I think you have idea Sim working fine only means idea network is better in your area and may not need frequent network cell changeover. (?) And another fact we can see from the reports is, that, almost ALL THE COMPLAINTS have been reported from INDIA where the model released is the duos.
S4 Mini Network issues.
I too have a S4 Mini for less than a month and I am also facing network issues. One thing to notice is that the sim with internet doesn't have issues. Irrespective of which slot it is in. Currently I have Vodafone IN on Sim 1 and Airtel on 2 (with 3G). Airtel works fine and Voda has issues.
I did speak to Samsung care, they were very nice, however the problem wasn't solved, I have been adviced to go to Samsung service center and get the S/w reimaged.
I still haven't done that, however what I did was to reset the phone and while I was browsing on the play store I got a software called "Where is my Signal" by Grey Boy. For some reason I feel it is working fine now. I have not had any issue from last evening, baring one time when I was on a long conf call for around 150 mins today. else it has been working fine and receiving calls on both sims too.
I had used this software to refresh the network once, it has helped me, not sure if this is going to sustain but for now it is good.
If some one else also has this software installed and is finding this to solve the issues kindly post the same on the forum and may be helpful.
Will repost tomorrow again with the status.
BTW I agree to many opinions in this thread that Samsung should have done some testing or atleast after many of these issues coming up needed to provide a patch upgrade.

I had tried three apps of that kind: where is my signal, network booster(marcstealth), and network refresher lite. None of them could overcome the strange problem of this phone though at first they seemed to be working. Another question is, how do we know when to refresh network? If we know the signal is lost, we can restart or do something like that. Then there is one more issue: sometimes it shows good/full signal strength, but when try to make a call, will realize that it was false! I made to run the network booster app run when signal is low, using tasker app -but we are not supposed to live such a life using this celebrated costly handset.
But one thing in your post is of much importance. DID THAT RESET WORK? You haven't said much about that.

The reason for reset was to ensure that none of the softwares I had installed were causing the issue. The reset didn't change much compared to the way it was earlier.
Some observations of when the problem actually happens (again this is my observation and doesn't need to be the same in your case)
> When I am on a long incoming call on the sim which has Internet.
> Noticed that short calls don't impact the network.
> If there is a call drop imm after you receive a call.
I am planning to get the phone firmware re-imaged from the service center however I will need atleast 10 more days to do it as I am currently in a different city and I am not carrying the invoice copy.
BTW Rajesh, did u get any response from the CEOs office?

Baseband issue

Hello. I have an unlocked i9195 on CM13 official. I currently live in the north of England, and I use the network called giffgaff (O2). I would like to know if any baseband would do or there are specific ones for these circumstances, like os version, location, network. I have bad signal most of the time. LTE does not work 98% of times, WCDMA around 50% and GSM works almost always. Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks for your attention.
i am also on Giffgaff in the midlands. i9195LTE
running TWRP 3.0.3.0 , AOKP official rom 20170202 , remix N v0.6 kernel.
baseband I9195XXUCPI1.tar.MD5 [Vodaphone] latest for this phone ( i believe). from sammobile/firmware ( saw thread here XDA about updating Baseband)

I have the latest BTU version of the baseband installed it's from around 2015 been working fine here.
Its probably a coverage issue I recommended trying other carriers to find out which suits your needs best.
I myself am using unlimited data plan on Three, works wonders.

Any should work, though generally it's recommended you keep your ROM and baseband to a similar release date, especially if you are having issues. Are you still on the original baseband?
You should be getting good converge on O2 or are you in a remote hilly area or near some other source of interference?
Else it could be hardware eg damaged component or poor grounding of aerial or pcb to phone ground plane. (cleaning contacts and/or tightening screws may help)

Regarding the coverage, I checked on their website and the area its pretty well covered for 4G reception, nonetheless I believe there is probably something wrong with the phone itself, I will probably just give up on this phone and spare myself some days of calamity.
Anyways thanks for your reply.

yes, sounds likely that it is hardware. A quick test you could do is pop the back cover off and connect a small wire to the test connector (at bottom level with the speaker) bypassing the actual antenna, if your signal strength improves then it is proof it is your antenna circuit where the problem is or the contacts.
You can also test by pressing down where the "touch" connectors are., see vid, sometimes it improves reception showing it's a bad connection with contacts.
This is often easily fixed by removing the inner cover & cleaning the contacts or applying a little more pressure to them with a little piece of plastic between them and the cover.
You can see from this video that the antenna are simply a "touch" connection to the main assembly.
about 2mins into the vid
should be a cheap fix at a repair shop if you don't fancy trying it yourself, if this is what it is.
