I'm so done with rooting as long as tether works I'm good there is always something wrong with a rom

Wow just found this thread.
Was curious to know if this method will let sprint know we are using the hotspot?
Ive been using the app Wifi tether Router for some time now on my old phone and have had no trouble but since this seems lime a different method id like to get a positive OK before i go through with it.
Also does it have any impact on the data or SMS/MMS i recieve?

I have used this method since it came out on note 3 and 4 and this phone and have had no problems of any kind.

Just finished editing my settings in addition with removing the proxy.
Works flawless with an increase in ping, download, and upload speeds as well. Thanks everyone

OMG I love you! That works for T-Mobile as well! For some reason though it doesn't work on Chrome; I'm on Firefox now and it's working flawlessly.
1) Download WiFi Tether for Root Users 3.2-pre1 *** EXPERIMENTAL ***
2) Set device profile to genetic ics and setup method to netd master
3) Use firefox? It's probably something to do with User Agents

No data cap here. I used about 15g last month and the month before. No throttling either.

Sorry, just want to clarify, on a rooted Verizon device this is working like an actual hotspot and not in ad hoc mode right?

So I'm a little confused. I have unlimated data so would it be better to use the hotspot app or this tether app?

If you are referring to the stock verizon hotspot app, you have to pay a monthly fee. That is why he is mentioning this other app.
works on sprint, unlike the latest play store version(tried yesturday).

Ok, that's kind of what I thought. But I opened the app and it didn't warn me about any charges so I didn't know.

I tried this tether app and it says it's working but my laptop can't see it. In the log the only failure is setting ad hoc.

Anyone know the name of the Verizon HotSpot app to freeze in Titanium to make that go away and then just see Android Wi-fi Tether in the app drawer?

Had the same problem at first. Kept changing the settings as the ones mentioned earlier in the thread initially did not work. Finally the mac saw the device and connected (turned airport off then back on), but no data transfer. Kept messing with settings, turning tether on and off.
All of a sudden it just started working. Tested it on two separate computers and both worked fine. I wish I could say what I did but honestly I think the settings mentioned above are correct but for some reason, you just need to fiddle with tether a bit until you get it to work. Once it starts working, it seems to be fine after that.
Are any of you being throttled in any way? I've installed this on my Dinc4g and my downloads seem to be throttled. I'm getting .7/5 when using Wifi-Tether.. but speedtest from the phone is constantly getting 12/12.
It's functioning fine, I just can't find a way to get my speeds to be the same as they are on the phone.
Are you guys doing anything special with disabling/removing specific Verizon apps, or is a simple root + wifi-tether working flawlessly?

T mobile unlimited data?

I went with their unlimited 4g data plan yesterday they told me I couldn't use hotspot anymore. So now I need to know is that feature now blocked on UN rooted phones? Because I'm running a custom tw Rom and the hotspot still works

You can use tethering aps from Google play market
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Yeah it should be blocked if you're unrooted. It should redirect you to a page asking if you want to add it to your plan (at least that's what it did for me), etc... I actually still had issues tethering when I went to a custom tw rom but when I finally switched over to a cm10 nightly I no longer had issues tethering.

has been working for me for days since I signed up for unlimited 4g data plan.
I always just used PDAnet. We had a storm come through the other day and knocked out my home internet for a couple days. I had PDAnet (that I downloaded from the PLAY store) and used it to watch Netflix. Worked like a charm. Root isn't even required.
So the consensus here is that even with the (no tether unlimited 4g) plan tethering still works just fine? Or someone said that you must use firefox on the tethered pc and another said that pda.net app must be used? I'm looking to save some money by switching from my 10gig data plan but need to know that it will still tether first.

No one said you have to use anything. If you are rooted, tethering will work fine. You can't use the built-in tethering if you are not running a custom rom.
I too am considering the plan. Very interested to know the actual charges are at the end of billing cycle. Contracts usually have additional fees every month. That being said the cost of the plan sound really good. I am averaging about 10mb download with highs of 16mb with my no contract tmobile plan. It sucks on beachside but was kind of expecting that, can go from 100kb to 8mb down within a block or two. Might just be interference.
I would also like to know if calling mart credits can be added to the account or other providers credits work. Then I would actually be paying less than the price they are asking. About 5 percent less when i can find the codes that are still valid!
Please keep us posted everyone! Let us know if thier are any problems after tethering and how much are you tethering percentage wise daily. I want to cut out the cable and would just go to tethering for home if i can.
Also thinking that after sept 12th,tmobile may try to lure others into thier plans with free phones on that value plan, hope so,then can sell that phone(one s?) and get that Gnexus i been wanting to try .

tethering to PC browsers is what sets it off. If yuo are going to tether to other phones or tablets, TMO wont make you pay for the service.
But that's not wireless

3G download problem. HELP!!!!!

I have suddenly been having problems with my 3g. I look at the symbol in the status bar and it will upload but it will not download. It's almost like the code is stuck in a loop. It will randomly start to work again for awhile and then act up later. I have wiped dalvik, cache, and I even reflashed my ROM (FREE GS3). I updated profile and PRL. That was even a problem because I would get an error since it wouldn't download. Before I flash back to stock and call sprint, does anybody have any ideas? One other note. I have driven through LTE areas and both downloads and uploads work with no problem.

Before reflashing call Sprint and see if they are doing tower improvements, this can cause that when they are working in things
I'm going to flash stock and unroot to see if that helps. I work 75 miles from my house and have experienced the problem at homd and at work so I'm pretty sure it's not a tower issue.

Try updating PRL and Profile then restart the phone? That may help, I mean if it does then you just saved like an hour of resetting and restoring. If it doesn't then you just wasted maybe 2 minutes.

I've tried this with the exception of rebooting my phone right afterwards. I just updated my PRL but I could not update my profile. I got an error. I'm running out of options
I appreciate everybody's help though.

Sprint GS3 FAQ THREAD
Happens to me when I shut off data for any length of time....I just reboot...and it works fine
I called Sprint and they couldn't fix it. I switched the network mode to CDMA from CDMA/LTE and it worked flawlessly. I don't know what that means but something told me my LTE and 3G weren't playing nicely. Whenever I go through a 4G area, it works to perfection. Then I get back in a 3G area and back to the same old thing.
I forgot to mention I flashed to stock unrooted and it seemed to function better but the problem still existed.

I have the same problem I have no idea what to do. I have a custom ROM the only way I get it to work is when I toggle Data on and off really fast. I didn't try the CDMA only though. Either way it's no excuse why our phone's are acting like this.
There was a DATA_HANDOFF.ZIP floating around somewhere....it was made for AOSP but if you make a backup and flash it, it might do some good
I had the same problem. In your phone key pad enter ##72786#. Its going to do hands free activation, prl update, profile update, firmware update (at that point you can cancel)

Does Foxfi work with T-Mobile

OK so to start off I don't really see a thread that has touched on this. I'm wondering if anyone can verify that foxfi works with T-Mobile. I came from Verizon unlimited and moved our 3 lines to t-mobile unlimited due to the cost we were paying with Verizon. Using foxfi on my Razr Maxx Hd worked everytime. When activating foxfi it did start the internal Verizon hot spot as well. I'm noticing the same thing about t-mobile that when I turn on foxfi it also turns on t-mobile hot spot. Is this only to create a hot spot or is foxfi truly not working in the hot spot data is going to count against my t-mobile hot spot? Has anyone played around with foxfi yet.

Well, if it sheds any light on the subject, I don't even HAVE a hot spot plan & it worked fine for me, so I assume it doesn't go off of that.
about foxfi with s4 t-mobile
I know this is an old thread but I can confirm this does work. Using USB tether and level 1 hide tether on pbanet 4.0
Can anyone tell me if this will hide data usage when I play online pc games such as Starcraft 2?
after install, reset your phone.
Use Option ( Hide Tether Level 1 ) USB connect, worked for me,

Sprint killed it!!

Am I the only one unable to talk on the phone and browse the Web on the s6?? I was able to do this on my s4 when I was on lte. Am I going to have to root and run a custom rom to get that feature back?? Thank for any input!
Sent from my SM-G920P using XDA Free mobile app
Not sure if you ended up finding an answer, but from what I understand it has to do with the way the phone is set up. You can't use the web and talk on the phone (while on network data) at the same time because they both are using the same radio. If I'm correct, voice calls are being "helped" a bit by the data connection in an attempt to make call quality go up. I don't think GSM phones are built this way, and I don't remember if Verizon has this problem. Everyone on the Sprint S6 is in the same boat. You can use WiFi and talk on the phone at the same time, though.
correct. if you want to browse the web while talking on the phone, you must use wifi

I just switched to Sprint. I was very disappointed, I assumed in todays day and age data and talk at the same time is just the standard. Guess not.
Yep sux that this happened. Im coming from an s4 also to an s6..great phone though, waiting on more dev options. Unrooted for time being but would love to get my hotspot back, so i must root soon.
Only when you're connected to the web.

Sprint didn't kill it, the designer of the phone killed it by making it work on the sprint network. LOL
Spark killed it, before the Spark phones you could talk and use LTE.

i just asked a sprint associate about this earlier. the reason is because all the newer phones from sprint have only 1 radio/antenna and the cell towers use 2 different antennas. one for data and one for calls so ur phone can only connect to one at a time
