[Question:] Did anybody get W10Mobile image by WiFi sniffing? - Windows 10 Mobile

Hello,
I just want to ask, if anybody succeded getting URL of Windows 10 Mobile image by WiFi packet sniffing like Wireshark?
I was thinking about the following procedure:
Requirements: 1. Lumia ARM device, 2. Intel PC with WiFi (for connection to ARM) and Wired RJ45 (connection to internet)
Approach:
1. Set Intel PC as WiFi AP (in W8 for example by Virtual Router Plus as WiFi Ad hoc has been removed there)
2. Connect Intel PC to internet by RJ45 wired
3. Connect Lumia ARM to Intel PC WiFi
4. Set WireShark on Intel PC to sniff URL of the ARM W10Mobile image
5. On Lumia ARM do the upgrade from WP8.1 to W10mobile by Windows Insider app...
6. On Intel PC get URL(s) for image to download
7. Download image within the time of time-bombed link
If anybody did this or is able to do that, please reply...
Thanks

By doing this all you will have are a lot of skpg packages not a full image, which are not signed so you hardly find any use on them. You might want one of those leaked FFU image: http://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-phone-8/general/installed-leaked-windows-10-mobile-t3173000

WM6.1 & Modem Link -Need BIGTIME help

I do helpdesk support and I am on call frequently. We use PCanywhere to connect to our clients servers.
When I had WM5 I could just click modem link and choose activate, open PCanywhere, right click my remote & go to properties, select HTC USB modem.
PCanywhere would then use my phone as a USB modem and connect to the remote site. Now I am using Faria's 6.1 (which has the WM5 modem link & internet sharing) and I can not use my hermes as a modem no matter what I do.
All of the directions I have found are how to tether/internet via modem link. I want to use it as an external modem. Please Please help if you have been through anything like this.
oh yeah, FYI I am able to tether via internet sharing just not use the hermes as an external modem.
Hi,
are you looking for the Modem Link/Internet Sharing?
If yes, use the attached cab files.
wfg
starbase64
Thanks for the reply. I already have Modem link and internet sharing built into the faria clean 6.1 ROM. My issue is that it no longer works like it did in WM5.
I am trying to use my hermes as a modem for my laptop to connect to a remote modem via PCanywhere.
Maybe its the ROM! Did you try this with any other ROM's?
I have not tried it with another 6.1 rom but it worked with the factory wm5 rom. I love this ROM and I am trying to hold off on trying another one until Schapps comes out with his new one.
Oh well for now I am pulling a rube goldberg. I am tethering using internet sharing and then aventail vpn into my network, then vnc into a desktop here, then using PC anywhere to connect to my remote server.
How did you get pcanywhere to install on WM6.1? I have dcd's rom and pcanywhere v3.0 will not install, only v2.0 will.
Can you offer any help?
I gave up. I now just use Logmein and use my desktop to connect to the pcanywhere host.
Though the topic is almost two years old, it still serve my purpose today! Thanks a million for the cab files (HTC modem Link and internet sharing)
configuring both the laptop and the cellphone for the Internet connection, and finally, initializing the connection. Once you’ve completed steps 1 and 2, you’ll never have to do them again. The next time you want to access the Internet with your cellphone you simply “redial,” and you’re online. This particular setup is based on the HTC manufactured series of windows mobile devices. In my case I still use the now-ancient HTC Cingular 8125, however these steps work for the later models (and most Windows Mobile devices will also be similar).
Step 1: Getting Things Ready
The first thing that you need to do before you can establish a laptop/modem connection is to kill the current application that’s handling communications between your laptop and cellphone. In my case, I’m running ActiveSync, so I kill that process using the Task Manager.
laptop wireless internet access
For ActiveSync, you just find wcescomm.exe and kill the process. If you’re particular Windows Mobile device uses another application, you’ll need to find the process name and make sure that you kill it. Secondly, you’ll need to also shut down the communications software on your phone. In the case of ActiveSync, in Windows Mobile you go to Start -> Settings -> System -> Memory -> Running Programs, and then if ActiveSync is listed you’ll need to stop the process.
mobile internet
Once you’ve stopped the communications software on both the laptop and Windows Mobile phone, you’re ready to establish the connection between the laptop and phone as an Internet modem.
Step 2: Connecting The Cellphone As a Modem
The only real configuration required in Windows Mobile in order to set up your device as an Internet modem is to enable the “Modem Link.” The Modem Link configuration can be found by going to Start -> Programs.
mobile internet
Once you’re inside the Modem Link configuration, just change the Connection setting to USB. It’s likely that your other settings are already configured, however if they are not just make sure that the Access point name has the name of the connection you configured on your mobile device for Internet access. When everything looks good, click “Activate” at the bottom, and the “Status” at the top should change to “Active.”
mobile internet
If your device is already connected to your laptop, you’ll get the “Found New Hardware” wizard pop-up immediately. If you’re not yet plugged in, then now’s the time to do it.
wireless internet for laptop
Just make sure that you select to install from a specific location so that you’ll have the option to manually select your driver file. Click next.
wireless internet access
On the next screen, you’ll click the browse button and go to the folder where the driver file is located. In my particular case with the Cingular 8125, and for most HTC mobile devices, you’ll need the USBMDM.INF driver file as well as the HTC USB Modem Dialer application. Both are offered as a free download from xda-developers.com. Download the zip file and put them wherever you’ll remember. Then in the Windows Wizard screen above, browse to the directory where you extracted the INF file. If your Windows Mobile device is non-HTC, check with the manufacturer for a USB modem driver for your device.
laptop wireless internet connections
The Wizard will recognize the device. Depending on your particular device and the version of the driver, you may see the error message above. Just click “Continue Anyway.”
wireless internet connection
Finally, the driver’s installed and you’re ready to start using your new Mobile USB Modem anytime you want to, and anywhere you have a cellular signal!
Step 3: Initializing the Internet Connection
To establish your new mobile Internet connection using your laptop, run the executable that you downloaded from the link above. Regardless of your device or your cellular carrier, you’ll typically always need to enter a User Name and Password. You can access that information (if you don’t already know it from setting up Internet use on your mobile device) by contacting your cellular provider and asking for the User Name and Password to use with your Internet data plan.
wireless internet access
Enter those details into the USB modem dialer, and after a few moments it’ll inform you that you’re now connected. Yes, that means that at this moment, even while you’re sitting in the middle of the lake with a fishing pole in one hand, your laptop is now connected to the Internet via your cellphone signal. It may not be lightning fast – but when you’re desperate to submit your latest article (or check on your team’s latest game results), sometimes such a connection is all you need.

[SOLVED] USB Tethering - Missing RNDIS Driver

Problem: I'm trying to USB tether my phone using a Wi-Fi connection (3G is not available atm). I connect my phone to my PC. I go into menu -> settings -> Wireless & network settings -> tethering & portable hotspot, and check USB tethering. Device manager says an RNDIS driver is missing.
Setup: Rooted (using unRevoked) HTC Incredible running CyanogenMod 7.03, not overclocked atm. USB debugging is enabled. I am running Windows 7 64-bit on my PC. Everything is running smoothly.
What I've tried:
I've searched everywhere and cannot find this driver. Of course, Windows 7 cannot find it online.
I can't install ActiveSync because I am running Windows 7.
I've installed Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1, but it still can't find the driver.
The Google OEM USB drivers out of the Android SDK don't work.
Without HTC Sync installed, I simply do not have the RNDIS driver. With HTC sync installed, this is what happens: The RNDIS driver gets installed, but when I check the USB tethering box on my phone, it goes on for a second, and then immediately goes off again.
Please help, this is one of the most frustrating problems I've ever dealt with, and it seems to be a simple driver issue.

*EDIT* This solved it.

Thank you for the Thanks. haha. =oD
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for this and posting the fix
Just to save some people some heavy head scratching: If you get error 10 for the RNDIS device in the device manager and USB-tethering does not work, disable USB-debugging for the time being.

Tethering With XP-64 Pro And Remote NDIS Install
It took me about a day to figure this out and yes, some of us still use XP. (I use it for mechanical CAD work, because I can't afford to buy all new CAD proggies, which would be required, if I upgraded Windows.) Tethering now works great and I can even share the connection further using MS Internet sharing on XP, which provides the tethered Internet to machines on my wired network and wifi router without having to connect them to my Moto G4 Plus. This means I can also place whatever firewall I choose in the path and extend the wifi range (my Netgear wifi signal is more powerful than my Moto G4 Plus).
I tried two .inf files. The only one that worked was produced by cutting and pasting to an .inf file from here:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/network/remote-ndis-inf-template#rndis-inf-template-for-ndis-60-windows-7-and-later
Then I had to explicitly add my Moto G4 Plus ID, as described here (remembering to enable USB tethering on my Moto G4 phone AFTER plugging it into my Windows computer):
http://karceh.blogspot.com/2012/05/how-to-usb-tether-android-phones-with.html
The rest of the install was nearly as described here in this xda-dev thread. Browse directly to the .inf file when given the chance to select the driver.
Here is my .inf file with my Moto G4 ID (you'll need to replace it with your phone's ID in the right spot, of course). Search for "Moto G4" to see where I placed my G4's ID:
Code:

; This INF works for Windows XP SP2, Windows XP x64,

; Windows Vista x86 and x64.
; This INF will work with Windows XP, Windows XP SP1,
; and Windows 2003 after applying specific hotfixes.

CM7 RC1v2 USB tethering not working

I'm running CM7 RC1 V2 on my DEFY, everything goes well except the usb tethering.
I have followed google's instructions strictly, when I checked USB tethering, there is a notice pop up on my phone saying "Tethering or hotspot active", but nothing pops up on my computer, there is no "New Hardware Wizard" nor any change in the hardware manager.
My DEFY was bought in Malaysia and my base sbf is nordic-177.
What's wrong with my DEFY? Anyone else have the same problem?
Here is the instruction from google's site:
USB Tethering with Windows XP
Windows XP contains the drivers you need to take advantage of USB tethering, but you must install a configuration file before connecting your phone to your Windows XP computer, to instruct Windows XP how to configure itself to use those drivers.
Download the following configuration file (tetherxp.inf) to your Windows XP computer. Typically, you can right click on the link and choose "Save As". (If your browser appends .html to the file name, you will need to edit the name to remove the .html extension.)
Use the USB cable that came with your phone to connect your phone to your computer.
On the Android phone, press Home, press Menu, and touch Settings to open the Settings application.
Touch Wireless & networks > Tethering & portable hotspot.
Check USB tethering.
When Windows XP’s New Hardware Wizard opens, select No, not at this time and click Next.
Select Install from a list or specific location and click Next.
Click Browse to browse to the directory where you installed the configuration file you downloaded in Step 1 and click Next. Windows XP uses the configuration file to configure itself to support USB tethering with the Android phone.
When Windows XP finishes installing the software for Android USB Ethernet/RNDIS, click Finish.
You can now use the new Windows XP local area network connection provided by your phone via USB tethering. For more information about configuring networks in Windows XP, see the documentation that comes with Windows.

[GUIDE] Run Free Hyper-V Server in Desktop Mode

Hi All,
This is my first guide on XDA and this might not be the right topic but it's related. (This is for Advanced users)
I want to start this thread to show how you can use Microsoft's Free Hyper-V Server for more than just "Hyper-V".
I have done tests with Hardware and VMWare Player (V5) with both Hyper-V 2008 R2 & Hyper-V 2012.
System Requirements;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyper-V#System_requirements_and_specifications
And more specifically;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyper-V#Microsoft_Hyper-V_Server
Download a Free copy of Hyper V Server; (It’s free, so no Install key required!)
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/server-cloud/hyper-v-server/default.aspx (You might need to register)
I have successfully used VMWare Player 5, Version 4 works for Hyper-V 2008 R2 but not 2012.
If you are trying this on hardware directly, you’ll also need to download your system’s drivers (at a minimum the Network Card) and a web browser
. i.e. Chrome downloader from: https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/ (Tested to work correctly in Hyper-V Environment) Save these to a USB stick.
Anything else can be downloaded once Hyper-V Server is up and running.
Follow the Hyper-V installation as usual (all defaults)
As a guide; Select Custom Installation, you'll need more than 10GB hard drive size after we add extras, so pick 20GB as a minimum. wait for the re-boot
At this point you'll be asked to set a password and you'll get a command prompt for a user interface.
That's right, Desktop, control panel, Start menu, Metro, Task Bar, System Tray, Internet Explorer are all User interface elements that are removed from this copy of windows.
This is where this [GUIDE] starts to provide non-standard information;
Let's start by Installing your Drivers. (I'm assuming you know how to use the command prompt to change drive letter of your USB drive and launch the driver installer program.)
OR in VMWare case, on the menu select Install VMWare tools. This will not launch automatically, hence you'll need to use the command prompt to change to your CD/DVD Drive and launch the "Setup.exe" for VMware tools.
Now start the installation for Chrome, similar to above.
Now Chrome is running, Close the prompt to select default browser (it's your only browser...)
Sometimes I have found Chrome to crash with a dinput8.dll error (no all websites), Chrome works with this prompt up, but it's nicer to avoid it prompting.
http://www.driverskit.com/dll/dinput8.dll/585.html * We'll get back to this later...
You'll need to be uncompressed the above file, so lets download 7Zip also
http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
Now we need a file manager, since there is no Windows Explorer (or now called explorer) Explorer2 (x2) fits the bill nicely.
http://www.zabkat.com/x2lite.htm * Free Light Version (There are issues with not displaying some files, That because it’s a 32bit application that is not 100% compatible with a 64bit environment), The Pro Version is US$29.95 and is available in 64bit. When you install this, select the option to replace Explorer (note: there is no explorer, so this option allows explorer2 to handle some calls to explorer)
Now download a Start menu, Taskbar “desktop” replacement http://www.emergedesktop.org/* Free and customizable.
- Lets customize the Emerge desktop,
- If not started run “C:\Program Files\Emerge Desktop\emergeCore.exe”
- Lets start by removing menu Items that are broken due to not having a full copy of windows.
-- Settings, Configure Core, Click on emergeLauncher.exe, the press the Cog.
--- Delete “Homepage”
--- Delete “Executable %AppletDIR%\documentation\...”
--- Delete “ Tutorial”
--- Add Type “Live Folder”, Folder “C:\Users\Public\Desktop” (Click Save)
-- Settings, Configure Core, Click on emergeTasks.exe, the press the Cog.
--- Change Icon Size to 16x16 (Click OK)
- Start menu (or right click any where on the desktop) select Desktop Display, right click, Delete.
Now any new program that puts a shortcut in this folder “C:\Users\Public\Desktop” will appear on the launch Task Bar.
For some "Control Panel" replacement options download a GUI for managing some windows features (These projects help to speed up initial configuration;
http://corefig.codeplex.com/ Corefig for Windows Server 2012 Core and Hyper-V Server 2012
https://coreconfig.codeplex.com/ for Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Core edition
This together with Sconfig can do quite a bit of windows configurations without resorting to the command line.
Ok the dinput8.dll.zip you downloaded earlier, you can un-compress this and put the dll (not the zip) in to the C:\windows\system32 folder.
If you want to make re-starting faster and don't plan on using Hyper-V, lets remove it. (coreconfig I think has this option but the following will always work) In a command prompt window type the following;
start /w ocsetup microsoft-hyper-v /uninstall
(Windows will need to restart a couple of times to do this)
(Optional) Enable a network share (You can use this like a Network file Server now, I don't know if there is a limitation to the number of connections like in desktop versions of windows)
net share /Grant:Administrator,FULL system=c:\
Remote Desktop Concurrent Users limit: 2 (one console, one remote OR two remote) (1 UP on a windows workstation copy)
Enable with from the Sconfig utility..
If you want to run SQL Server (Tested with 2008 R2) you'll need DotNet3.5
In a command prompt window type the following;
DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 /All
I did this as a test a while ago and I think that is all I needed to do and it worked. (I have gotten it to work, so it would be interesting on how much it can be pushed on this platform)
Need Java? Download Java http://java.com/en/download/
Need to use Office Documents?; http://www.libreoffice.org/download

Need Web Server?; http://mirror.mel.bkb.net.au/pub/apache//httpd/binaries/win32/
Need QEMU support? http://qemu.weilnetz.de/w64/
I used the built in Windows Updates (option 6 on the Sconfig utility) but I also prefer to use: WSUS Offline http://wsusoffline.net/
WSUS will also quickly get you copies of Silver light & C++ run times (or you can find the URL's manually), I find it's best to use both, WSUS Offline for quick offline copies and windows updates for the latest Microsoft has to offer... (I did not say latest & greatest...)
Work in Progress (probably not going to happen without 3rd party work).
Need Sound? (Don’t know of a solution yet…) I saw someone working on this with Server 2012 Core but I did not find the solution or if it would work with hyper-V copy.
Need Direct X? (Don’t know of a solution yet…) I've tried downloading -redist copies, etc but Direct X has been integrated into windows for years and this is the copy it's removed from.
I'd also want to get VMWare Player working or similar for the USB Pass through feature and 3D client support but I'd probably have to use an alternative. (I heard of a USB Driver for windows to share over Ethernet to another copy of windows)
Okay, this is all I have got for now, your thoughts?

Update Lumia 820 from Denim to Windows 10 Mobile using PC.

I have been scratching my head over this all weekend now. My institute has this authenticated HTTP proxy which doesn't do well with WP8.1, so I have created a small proxy server on my router which routes all requests to the parent server and I am able to connect my phone to the internet. Problem is that the connection is VERY flimsy.
Update to the latest WP10 build ALWAYS fails with 801882cb (network disconnection/failure), so I've been looking for methods to do the update on my PC. So far, I've tried Windows Device Recovery Tool, which shows Cyan as the latest update (I'm already on Denim) and Nokia Software Updater for Retail which doesn't connect to server or recognizes device at all.
I came across WDK which contains iutool.exe which can send .cabs and .spkgs to device but where do I get those? Any tips for those with similar problems as me?
