Add extra column of tiles, Lumia 930 - Windows 10 Mobile

I have read somewhere that you can tweak the registry on the Lumia 930 so that you can ad an extra column of tiles, just like on the large screen devices like the 1520. Since the 930 has the same resolution as the large screens, it should not be a problem.. I am not familiar with editing the registry, so I was hoping that someone else might know how..

Alphanuma 0.9 an Alpha-Numeric Display [Deprecated, 1.0 released]

Do you miss knowing which letters are on which numbers, like when dialing a number from a business? Like, "Call Now! 1-800-YES-YEAH" Here's the fix for Kavana/Ricky/HTC based ROMs.
This is a mod of Surreal Networks Alpha-Numeric Display patch (grey), without the T-Mobile Branding:
Now, with correct spelling. (Hey it was late!)
download BRANDING.GIF
place in the Windows folder
browse to it with resco explorer
rename to ms_mobile.gif, confirm
May require rebooting. You are welcome to modify this, make into a .cab or desktop installer.
UPDATE April 4: Newest version, no branding, simpler install, and works on both the in-call and dialer screens here! Or jump to page three for preview.
UPDATE April 18: One Point Zero release here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2129954#post2129954
Thanks, that's great. Although, you spelled Excalibur wrong...
Thanks a ton! This is a great help!
Nice but I was wondering how the hell to get the panel AFTER you make a call to show the numbers on Kavana's 6.1. Like automated service tells you to put in your name or whatnot on the dialpad....
dialpad cab minus excalibur branding
attached is the same dialpad without the Excalibur branding.
install cab, reboot, enjoy.
thanks to Ben Hirashima for the cab

Not sure. I will look into it. I suppose it could be added to the top of whatever image is in the "next" screen?
So it's only in one colour, and it might not match your blues, but I'll share the one I made for my phone if any of you like it.
I made one too
Windows standard colors
Here are original ones for each of the default colors and Segoe text. No Branding. Included one in grey, too!
Anyone else having a problem with the automatic alpha-num installers with a cooked ROM?
I like the one with T-mobile Branding. It makes the rom feel more official. (Extracted from the Surreal Networks CAB)

I am working on a complete suite of not T-Mobile Branding, trying to figure out the splash screens at the moment. I just cant dig the pink T; Ive tried! Been cruising the other forums for clues...
It seems that the Ben dialpad works on the in-call screen, but I cant simulate the behavior if i uninstall his cab and manually it the reg. What keys do others use to change background on the in-call screen? IT really needs some livening up anyway.

Just one key...but it has to point to a file that exists. So if you've extracted the .gif file from the .cab / make sure you drop the .gif file in the windows directory and note what the .gif filename is as thats what you're going to put in the regitry entry...also make sure you soft-reset otherwise it won't change until then.
And as far as the in call screen is concerned ... look for a file in \windows directory named cprogback_land.png for your in-call screen
Here's the one that i use: It looks good with technology's another blue color scheme .......Just rename the extention from .jpeg to .png if you want to use it
nice tip! thanks!

It appears that that file is hard-coded, so there is no way to mod the reg with the installer, but it looks like windows mobile's .cab-install system will back things up alright from a file replacement approach. So, a single installer for both is do-able.
Interestingly, the image I am overwriting is called Carrierlogo.gif, not cprogback_land.png. Are there two potential images retrieved for the call screen, one in the fore and one in the back? I wonder what I could do with that info...
Or, maybe it is named differently in different source roms with the same purpose. Will text that next.
boom, got it
So, I think i this is how the in-call graphics work:
It appears that the call screen does indeed call up two images (not including a contact thumb, if applicable) The background is hardwired as "cprogback_land.png". Also, instead of having the carrier text string at the top, it can have an image across the top, which is hardwired as "carrierlogo.gif". Nothing can be done, as far as I can tell, to change the pointers to other files, so overwrites are the only method of changing.
If the graphic is put inside the background image itself, it can be the full width of the screen, like any background, and likewise any height (up to 213) But the in-call screen is a bit busy. The top 24 pixels (after the window top) are reserved for the carrier branding text string (or image), followed by 2 blank rows of pixels and a horizontal rule at row 27. The next 88 pixels (the middle area is a call status area followed by another rule at row 116, and pressed digits fill the bottom area.
However, if the graphic (.gif only) is in the foreground, it can be any size and proportion, but if it is taller than 24 pixels, or wider than 311 pixels, it will be (UPDATED) scooted over four pixels and cropped to fit a box of those dimensions at the top. If it is smaller, it will be top-, then left-aligned. Either way, if it is there, it replaces the carrier text string, rather than having to be designed around it. One thing to keep in mind, if using this method is that it has to be 10 pixels narrower than the image that might be used on the dialer screen, or it will "shrink" when you switch screens, if you want them to "match".
If anything is unclear, or anyone has any details to add, or corrections to make, please let me know! Thanks

One could be made by renaming any wallpaper that would work on the home screen.
I am working on a png one that blends seamlessly with a floating .gif dialpad right now. Must test it out tho'
Here is a trio of images to bring a consistent and mellow dialpad feature to BOTH the dial and incall screens.

.NetCF C# App has no Icon

Hey Guys,
I post a lot in the CDMA Hero forums, but I am having a little problem with a Windows Mobile App at work.
I have an .ICO file for the project, it has 12 Icons in the one file of all different sizes. When the solution is built and deployed to 1 model of device the Icon does not show in the program list. The icon shows fine on 6 other models of devices, but not on this one. Also I noticed that through file explorer, the EXE has the correct icon.
The device is a Symbol PPT8800 OS: PPC 2003.
Can you guys think of anything that would cause this Icon not to show up on this device? Are their limitations to PPC 2003 and resolutions of icons?
I don't know about WM2003, but in recent versions of WM the shell automatically extracts the correct size icon to display depending on device resolution/dpi. Is the device QVGA? What sizes of icons are in the file?

So device's screen specs from the manufacturer are:
■Transflective color TFT-LCD, 65K colors,
240 (W) x 320 (L) (QVGA size)
6 of the images in the ICO are 8 bit
other 6 are 32 bit.
Would this need to have a 16 bit(~65k) variant as well?
Bump
Any other ideas on this? We are beating our heads against the wall.
I have tried every combination of sizes and colors and transparency. We are at a complete loss for this particular device.
How about extracting the icon from an executable that displays correctly on that device (use reshacker or whatever) and comparing it's attributes to your icon?
Can we have the ico file so we can have a look at it?
Did you ever get it sorted out?
Sorry guys, I just actually got this fixed today.
I took the transparency off of all the icons in the file and added a set of 16 bit.
This still didn't fix it until I actually OEM Reset the device, then reinstalled and it worked. I am not sure if adding the extra icon's actually did anything still or if it was the hard reset wiping some sort of cache or store.
I still really don't know how these things work as far as that goes.
I'll stick with my Android
Thanks for the advice though!
Well at least it's working now

WP7 IE zoom, how does it work?

Is there a particular way in which IE chooses when and how to zoom on websites? Sometimes it pulls up pages in very good readable sizes, and other times not.
I want to create a page like the one below but with Tiles, similar in shape and size to Wp7
This might help you:

That is great! Thank you.
Another lame question:
I am trying to recreate the homepage of my Samsung Foucs on a webpage. If I use the image sizes in the UI design PDf from MS, it says 173x173 home screen tiles. If I make images this size on a 400 pixel width webpage, the tiles end up a lot larger than my focus homescreens.
Any suggestions for me?
Sincerely,
Newb

Take PPI and resolution into account. If I were you I'd just hold the phone up to the screen and resize until they look about the same size.
Unless you want to do the math.
Hmmm, I see someone is trying to build "sub-tiles" into their phone, where tapping a tile on the homescreen takes you to another page of tiles, all of which can be scrolled and tapped to go further.....am I right? And you're using a webpage to do it, pinning the link to the page to the start screen. So it's a bit like having folders.
If so it's a nice idea.

[TWEAK] De-watermark Bing Lockscreen

I like the Bing Pic of The Day Lockscreen, and even better without the watermark.
De-watermark Bing Lockscreen
Enable Full FS
Open in text editor: c:\PROGRAMS\LOCKANDWALLPAPER\720x1280\binglogo.pos.ucs2le (where 720x1280 is the screen resolution of your phone)
The text file sets the desired position of the watermark. I changed mine to 720 1280
Enjoy, profit, Happy new year! ?
Noob question but how do you open the file in text editor?
Very thankful for this hack!

No need for apps or full fs for this one, folks
These keys will give you the current bing wallpaper location and its corresponding caption for Windows Mobile 10
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Wallpaper\Bing\CurrentImage]
Value must be like 'C:/Data/Users/DefApps/AppData/LOCKANDWALLPAPER/Local/cache/_20170520.jpg'
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Wallpaper\Bing\ BingCopyright]
Value must be like 'View from the CN Tower, Toronto, Canada (© robertharding/Alamy Stock Photo)'
To save the image, copy the image location and paste it in edge and go to that location (that's right, no prefix, suffix whatsoever)
Edge will display the image like any web image resource and then save using context menu.
Together with the 'Remove Bing Water mark' trick, this makes for the easiest way to save untampered bing Wallpapers. Only drawback is no higher resolution (please correct me if I'm wrong)

Tweaking start screen tiles layout

Hi guys,
there seems to be a limitation in W10M regarding the number of tile folders on the start screen. I tried it on different devices and could create 25 tile folders, but I need more... Creating the 26th always results just in a start screen reload before the has device recognized that a tile is put on top of another tile.
Is there I way to tweak it? I suppose the layout is stored in an XML file or in a database. I'd just try to edit this resource adding more folder elements.

The screenshot you point to explains TileColumnSize that is used to define how much tiles/tile folders are displayed in a row. But it isn't a problem. My problem is how to CREATE more than 25 tile FOLDERS on the start screen.

I don't know.
So folks, I pushed two tiles to the very top of the start screen and managed to create the 26th tile folder in this way.
But now a long-tap on every tile or group results into a start screen reload, so I'm unable to edit it at all...
I suppose it's a memory issue. Can plz someone verify it? All my devices have 1 GB RAM and stop at 25/26 tile groups.
I investigated the file system but found no traps of a file that controls the start screen layout.
There is system32\layouts\defaultLayouts.xml which is used for the initial setup after a hard reset.
And there's an interesting MSDN article about customizing the start screen layout via LayoutModification.xml:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/mt171093(v=vs.85).aspx
However it states that "Windows 10 Mobile only supports one Start group". So no chance to outsource the full configuration of the start screen to that file.
Now I'd like to export the phone's registry hoping to find the tile groups configuration there.
Is there a registry export tool? Interop Tools have a registry search but it doesn't search as assumed.

A link (regarding W10 desktop) says: "Windows 10 Start screen or Start menu configuration are stored in a database file named vedatamodel.edb, which is always locked or in-use by the system when you’re logged on and can’t be copied." http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/backup-start-menu-layout-windows-10/
