Note 5 screen off memo rooted/non rooted - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Themes and Apps

I wanted to share this app that I have been running my Verizon Note Pro.
Note 5 goodness on the Note Pro. I tested it on my lollipop Verizon variant.
This amazing app is by @xperiacle which gives us the Screen off memo, without unlocking the screen. The lock screen pops up for just a second before the black memo screen pops up but this is as close as we are going to get to the awesomeness that is the Note 5 screen off memo. I am linking the thread so you go there and thank him and get the app.
Make sure you do the following after install:
1. Give the app security admin under settings, then security, then device admin
2. Change s pen detachment option to none.*
3. Run the app once.*
3. You are ready to go!!
I use my tablet for work a lot to take quick notes and this app works like a charm. Try and out and post your thoughts.

Are you rooted? Running Xposed?
Force screen orientation to landscape with App Settings module.
Or just install HaveOwnOrientation so kinda no matter what you have open on your screen, it will rotate anyway you turn your device to.
For me this works landscape and I believe HaveOwnOrientation makes the magic, but can't be sure.

I got Pac Man Rom and SPen isnt part of OS like TouchWiz, but as extra app can be usefull.

[Q] Ipad sold, Note 8.0 bought - now some questions

Hi All,
I'm a long time member of xda-devs since the original xda phone back in the early 00's. I had a second gen galaxy tab but ditched it for an ipad 3 as it wasn't quite the experience I was after. Now I've ditched the lead weight that is the ipad and am absolutely loving the Note.
I have a few questions...
1. Are there any gestures (e.g. multi finger swipes) that can be used to cycle through the open apps, or am I limited to a long press on the home button then a tap?
2. Are there any other gestures that are possible to streamline use?
3. When typing a number or symbol, is there any way of configuring it to go back to the letter keys once the number/symbol has been typed, rather than having to tap the ABC button?
4. Is there any way of displaying the email or gmail widgets on the lock screen?
I'm sure there'll be more questions as I explore further.
Thanks for any guidance.

Very happy that you made the switch, but given that the note 8 is new just be patient. If I were you I would install an AOSP rom and install nova which supports a ton of gestures. Spend some time playing with mods and you will find that you can customize your Os to your liking. Something that is very difficult to do with even a jailbroken iPad. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your investment.

1. GMD GestureControl works pretty good for multi finger swipes, just not as good as iPad. There is a lite version on playstore. You can give it a tr there but for me I'm using LMT launcher which is also good too, can find it here or just google it.
2. I'm not sure.
3. I think you need to tap ABC button for that.
4. There will be on 4.2 but for now you may need to try aosp or cm10.1 for that which is not available for our note yet? Or maybe not stable yet.
Check Nova launcher for 1 and 2. For example, I use a double tap on the screen to open up recent apps. There is also some built in spen gestures under settings, spen, and Samsung gestures under settings, motion. The spen settings allow youto add your own spen gestures too.
3. In the built in Samsung keyboard you have access to numbers and letters simultaneously, can use swipe instead of tap, or write letters with the spen that are converted to text. In other keyboards, long pressing a letter on the top row usually equals a number, so you can avoid going back and forth the number and letter sets.
4. This is possible with Daydream add ons but we'd have to wait for Samsung to update the Note 8 to the current Android OS, 4.2.2, then install Daydream widget clock plus. Maybe there are other apps that can be used in the meantime or launchers with that feature. (I turned off lock screen on my device, I find it annoying, I would rather open the cover and be in the app where I left off immediately. )

I was just like you with an ipad 3 and this was the first thing I was after as well. I found gmd gesture control and I'm so very grateful. Just be careful because one of those apps (pen control or gesture control not sure which one since I have both) have issues when I use my spen and lay my hand on the screen. I blacklisted handwriting apps but when I use the pop-up note I can't blacklist anything since it hovers on the home screen.

[XPOSED] KnockOff for all AOSP devices!

Installed an AOSP rom and wish you had KnockOff?
Well now it is here
Simply download the file below, install xposed, enable the module, reboot your device, and voilĂ !
Donate to me through paypal
Also if you have G2 Xposed, there should now be a KnockOff setting for those of you with AOSP that will work on the latest beta.
Just tested it on D801 running houstonn's PA 4.4, working great. Thanks.

This is awesome! I remember enjoying your G2 Xposed module on stock LG rom so much I had to donate! Thanks for giving us some AOSP goodness!
Works great on current cm11 nightly. Thank you. Now hopefully people will stop flooding posts with "is knock off working on this build???????"
Sent from my LG-D800 using xda app-developers app
So this allows Knock-Off globably throughout the rom or just the status bar? The Stock LG rom really only supported Knock-Off on the status bar where the Launcher supported Double-Tap = Screen Off (which I use flawlessly with Nova Prime + Screen Off app).
Very nicely done though. I know all of the dev threads get this constantly asked.
So this requires the "KnockOff.apk" + updated G2 Xposed Settings?
Nice work.
I purchased G2 xposed for the 30mins I used the stock LG rom so it's great to get some AOSP love.
We've been able to use knock off via a variety of methods but this will rule out the need for 3rd party apps and specific launchers.
Thanks!

You can download KnockOff.apk or if you already have G2 Xposed installed you can use that
This mod allows you to use the knockoff feature when double tapping the statusbar.
Should work for any rom on any device

Interested about this one too, if anyone has tested yet please ?

This is great!! Do you mind sharing how it works?
I created an app which simply request root and send "input keyevent 26" command (Power Button). I use it for Nova Launcher double tap gesture but there is a one (1) second delay for the screen to turn off. I can't seem to get rid of the delay. Any advice? or do you mind building such a simple app for knock off from launcher?

There is a free app in the Play Store called Screen Off and Lock, that was what I had used with Nova in the past. Now I just use a Nav Ring with Screen Off.

I tried most apps in the Play Store, they all locks the screen immediately. (I'm using pattern lock)
I'm currently tasker as well, this is what i did:
A1: Keyguard [ Set: off ]
A2: System Lock
A3: Wait [ MS:15 Seconds:0 Minutes:0 Hours:0 Days:0 ]
A4: Stop [ With Error: off Task: ] If [ %SCREEN ~ on ]
A5: Keyguard [ Set: on ]
A6: System Lock
This will engage lock after 15 seconds. This doesn't look clean though since the task will run for 15 seconds after the screen is off.

Well, without root the send input command does not work. I tried it with "Terminal Emulator".
Well I'm not sure about with or without root (I'm rooted), but I double tap and my screen closes instantly without any delay. I also have swipe down for notifications and swipe up to hide status bar.

[Panel] EdgeScreen Air Command

Hello edge users,
Been playing around with the edge screen sdk and just thought I would share with you a simple panel I made called Edge Air Command which serves as alternative to the stock air command menu. The app requires root access. Just download below, install, activate and grant root access if required.

Smart Select and Image Clip requires root access as they are allowed to be launched only by system level permission. Action Memo and Screen write does not require root access.
Finally, Great and an innovative idea ! This makes things a lot easier. I can see myself getting used to this. Let's put a theme on it with some colored icons ? So it doesn't look the same as the internal aircommand.
Thanks @xperiacle

The truth is I only made this and tested on an emulator as I don't have a note edge to test with so I just used the stock icons but if somebody can give me some icon replacements and color scheme suggestions then I might update it to allow a certain level of theming on it.

For a moment there, I was overjoyed guessing that you have got a hold of a Note Edge - as we have a very few Dev's on this side of the world.
I have attached a screen of my stock air command which I have replaced the icons (inside drawable folder) of, with some stolen icons from some theme in some part of the Note 2 forum 2 years ago.
I will extensively test your app and I will give you a feedback on what needs to be fine tuned. If there is a separate channel for you to obtain feedback, do post here. Otherwise I will post as a reply here.
Once again , cheers to a great start!
Awesome app, and awesome idea. I just can't see myself using it since Verizon won't let me root my phone, so I can only access 2 of the features.

Thanks dev.
Thanks.
Unable to use the smart select and smart clip. The other two work fine.
Rooted and app has been given root access.
Selecting these does nothing. Just get the SU toast that app has been granted access.
Tried rebooting. Anything I'm missing?
Note Edge N915G, Lollipop 5.0.1
Ver good idea
Hey @xperiacle,
I used the panel for quite sometime, and tried to get used to it as a mainstream daily app. I find the following points, which could be fine tuned.
1 - There is no indication that an option has been pressed, hence you end up pressing the same icon 3 - 4 times until the action appears.
[Solution] - Make the icons change colour / highlight / turn into gray-scale / etc.. as soon as an option is clicked
2 - When screen write is triggered, The Air command edge panel gets captured in the screenshot - blocking a thin line of your wallpaper
[Solution] - When Screen write option is triggered, the panel needs to collapse back / hide before the screenshot is captured (ref screenshot)
3. - I see some room for one more icon below -
[Solution] - make the empty spot configurable for a custom action / app / shortcut
I hope these tips^ help you in anyway to fine tune this app. All the best!
Hi @JazonX, are you able to use the smart select and smart clip functions?
Smart select and image clip not working for me either. 915T Stock Deodex....either way a great start and an awesome idea. Thank you

Key Plus - Change LG V10 Volume key shortcut to flashlight or any app (without root)

Hello friends, I am Naveen Naushad, an indie Android developer from India. I developed this app for G3, with which you can change the Volume button launch apps when the phone is locked, that too without root access.
Some Reddit users tested it on V10 as well and have confirmed it is working correctly. You will be able to modify the Volume Up action to toggle flashlight, launch a different app (instead of QuickMemo+) or even open a custom launcher shortcut. Unfortunately Volume Down cannot be changed as LG hardcoded it to launch camera, starting from Lollipop. Most people are ok with that as they need to change QuickMemo+ only.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apptuners.keyplusapp
Requirements:
Stock LG ROM (or ROMS based on it)
QuickMemo installed and working properly
Not compatible with official flip case
Request:
If you like the app, please rate, review and +1 it at Google Play Store. That will increase the visibility of the app tremendously.
Confirmed. (On Verizon V10) Works nicely with the flashlight toggle. Even with the fingerprint lock. (Need to tap lock button, then vol up button twice to toggle) TYVM!
I really like the idea of this app! Would be nice to have the flashlight up there.

Thanks! Just a heads up for anyone else who may experience this: you have to have quickmemo installed to set this up. After unlocking my bootloader it was not installed by default. Had to download it via LG updates before double tapping up worked to give me a program association dialog. Additionally, freezing quickmemo afterwards caused the button to stop working again.
Didn't work on my AT&T V10 H900.
Now after revoking administrative rights and uninstalling app shortcut buttons won't work at all anymore , it won't launch camera or capture.

That shouldn't be happening as the app does not modify any system file (as it does not have root access).
Were default shortcuts (Camera and QuickMemo) working before you installed Key Plus? Also can you check the in Settings whether Shortcut keys are enabled?

Affirmative, both. And the fact that I'm not rooted I and it doesn't use root is what makes this so odd. Not sure what to make of this.

Got it. Works well. This was something I was missing from Xposed and I honestly haven't wanted to install Xposed this go around.

One issue I am having though is now when I hit the quick memo button on my second screen, my flashlight turns on and then only way to get it off is to turn off the screen and double tap your shortcut. Not a deal breaker.

Unfortunately that issue is something that can be debugged only with a V10 in hand. I have been trying to find someone with the phone here but the fact that it has not been released in India, makes it difficult.

Landscape on home screen

Is there somewhere else I need to check to rotate the home screen? Apps and phone manager rotate fine.
You need a 3rd party app to make that happen, normally you swipe down to bring the notification screen, then tap and hold the gear until it spins and then it goes off the right side of the screen, at this point it would normally go to setting and then see the system ui tuner in the menu, but Huawei has removed this and you have to download "Activity Launcher", but I dont think this works anymore as it stopped working on my HN8 after it updated to 8.0. But those are the two ways to make it work.
