Noob with 5.1.1, but would prefer 4.4.4 if possible - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I'll start off by saying that I have searched around, but haven't been able to find a definitive and up-to-date answer. Either that, or I just didn't understand an answer because I know almost nothing about any of the technical jargon.
Here's my problem. I just got a new Sprint Note 4 and it unfortunately came with 5.1.1 already loaded, so I didn't have a choice. I've seen the difference between Lollipop and Kitkat (and read numerous complaints), so I know that I would definitely prefer to be running Kitkat. And if there's any way to downgrade for 4.4.4, I'd like to do it now while the phone is new so I wouldn't have to worry about backing up a lot of data.
Useful information: the phone is an SM-N910P and is on N910PVPU4COG5, which I believe is the latest version.
Is there currently any known method--non-root, rooting, flashing, going to 5.0 and then to 4.4.4, etc.--to downgrade a Sprint Note 4 on COG5 to Kitkat? And if so, where does a laymen like myself start?
Thanks a lot.

+1 Way too many risks trying to downgrade. There was a way mentioned to flash any Lollipop ROM but I doubt it applies to KitKat.
Give Lollipop 5.1.1/OG5 a chance. It's got some security and bug fixes the other stock versions and ports don't have. There's even some ports like themes and Screen Off Memo that work with it. And Xposed works as well.
Development is coming along. Read the thread on Sacs Note 5 port for fixes fixes posted in the last 2 or 3 days for that ROM. (HINT: Before flashing, go into the zip archive to delete the test files in /system/etc/init.d and pull the build.prop and look for dpi and set it at 640 and replace it). That will get you started with a good custom ROM that should only get better going forward. I can't recall but I think was still yet another another fix posted in that thread.
Stock OG5 with Beastmode kernel is no slouch if you can get it setup to counter the issues from applying just root.

In that case, I highly recommend Hybrid X 3.0
The stock ROMs require a little attention. If you want to go with stock, I can send you a carbon copy of a PM I just sent to another user.

yo tengo problemas con la ROM, cuando no tiene pila, no carga el celular solo se reinicia. AYUDAAAA!!
Sorry, but I honestly don't have any idea what you mean here. Those are terms not really used when dealing with rom issues.
But the simple solution is to flash stock, factory reset and start again.
Beyond that, we'd need a better description of the problems.

Queartion about flashing
So i am on cyanogenmod 11 4.4.4 right now. I noticed it says you will need a 4.3 modem and bootloader. What does that mean? Am I not able to flash this rom? Sorry for the dumb question, I am new to rooting and flashing roms.
That is referring to your base firmware version. When you flash firmware via Odin, it flashes multiple partitions to what ever build is being flashed. This includes the bootloaders, modem, and others. You can then flash roms on top of that, but the base firmware would remain unchanged. Roms only flash the system and boot (kernel) partitions (sometimes data too).
For the 4.4.2 TouchWiz roms to work, that base firmware MUST be at least a 4.3 build.
To check what you currently have, install and open Terminal Emulator from the store and enter this:
getprop ro.bootloader
It will tell you your current base firmware/bootloader version. If it's not a 4.3 or 4.4.2 build, you have to update before flashing the rom.

Weather on Lockscreen
Is there a way to get the weather on the lock screen of a At&t galaxy S3 4.4.2 KK Rom like the attached picture?
There is no "additional Information" selection under the main lock screen setting.
Likewise Galaxy S5 Rom for Galaxy S3
Can anyone confirm if this rom works well with SGH-i747M from Bell Mobile? Also, if I download this, will I still be able to recieve OTA updates? And if not, will Samsung Kies still detect it? And if so, would it install at all or what?
Does anyone have a guide with steps on how to flash this properly?
Any help at all would be appreciated, I'm still bit of a newbie at this... :/
You can only get ota if you are 100% full stock. No root, no mods, no custom anything.
You flash just like any other rom or mod. If you are not familiar with this, I highly recommend you don't do anything until you've read the sticky threads and searched the forums for remaining questions or concerns.

For those who wanted the weather on the lock screen like the attached picture: Note I am a total noob who just likes fiddling around. I do not know why or how this worked but.... I am running Enewman17 S5-EXperience Rom Found in the Likewise S5 thread.
1. renamed the SecSettings, SecSettings Porvider, and Keygard to .bak. in the priv-app using root explorer.
2. I used the SecSettings, SecSettings Provider, and Keygard from the S5 Sensation Rom and placed them into the priv-app and changed the premissions rw-r-r.
3. Reboot. Upon rebooting I got FC on settings but once the phone settled FC never happened again.
4. Go into the settings, lockscreen, then select additional settings, toggle on and select weather on lock screen.
5. Lock the screen to notice the affect.
6. I had to repeat steps 4 and 5 a few times for some reason but now Bam! its working. Hopefully the geniuses working on Likewise can get the UPSM to work and we will have a full blown S5 Rom. Awesome Job guys!

I have actually flashed my phone back to the official firmware because I was on cyanogenmod at one point and didn't like it and tried to figure out if there was a way to go back to the stock rom, I had people help me on a different forum site though.
All I really want is a touchwiz rom that doesn't lag every two seconds, Samsung has too much bloat on their phones D:
There are a number of 4.3 roms you can try, and theres Likewise, TMS3KK and S3Rx built from 4.4.2.
All are great roms and you can always remove a lot of the bloat that you dont like. Likewise does have a heavier memory footprint though. But thats understandable and it still hasnt caused me any problems.
I agree with you about cm, but ive hardly ever had a single issue running on Touchwiz.
And dont take my response as not wanting to help. Im always happy to help folks out, but on xda it goes a long way with everyone if you are willing to take the time to try to help yourself first. Thats why I suggest reading the stickies. It can be a lot, but theres a lot of great info there that can help you on many ways.

A few more questions, what do you mean by "stickie"?
And I noticed you have a "light" version of the ROM, but there's two different ones, what's the difference between them?
Also, in the regular rom the google drive link doesn't work, and the other link you have has multiple download links inside it, is it just the top one?
What do you mean by "4.3 modem and bootloader?" And how can I check if I have these things? Will it work if my phone is already at stock 4.4.2?
Is this rom compatible with Samsung Kies? I am asking because I need it to restore all my data if I manage to flash this successfully
Last question, would you recommend this rom as a daily driver? Also, whenever you release a new version, do I download it like any other software update? Where I can do it in the phone itself without any hassle?
Hello. On the latest version 4.4 is there a way to add screen shot to the power menu? Also awesome job on 4.4!!

[Q] p607t Are any of these lte roms compatible?

I have a tmo note 10.1 2014. Are any of these lte roms compatible at all??
Why yes they are I'm running xKat 5.0, SE permissive stock kernel, and TWRP (and have been since the night I got that tablet a week or so ago). SO glad that T-Mobile is carrying this hardware, AND that they're generally cool with rooting / modding etc. I even told the guy at the Tmo store my "policy" that I WILL NOT buy (well, much more trade in this case :good: ) any device that has arbitrary restrictions preventing me from gaining root (i.e. the ability to administer my own device.) He was ridiculously cool... even told me he was pretty sure it was cool if I flashed custom firmware on my new completely gratis "cellspot" router if I restored it to stock before I returned it (or likely will end up buying). SO glad Tmo is making all of these pro-consumer moves... and also that it seems to be working out for them so well (not to mention, their customers)!
I've read some of your posts around here. You mention removing a few files before flashing. Did you? If so, can share with me what/how you did?
Sent from my SM-P607T using XDA Premium HD app
No, I didn't... as you've probably noticed, info re: the entire process of root, recovery, custom ROM is kind of spread out around the forum. I thought that might be necessary because I recalled reading something about having to do that to flash a p605 ROM on a p607t (might have pertained to a specific ROM or something), but I asked specifically in the xKat thread to make sure and found it (well, first by just trying it - then took a look at the thread mid flash and saw that someone had responded :good that the xKat zip can be flashed as-is. Select any options you'd like in the Aroma installer and you're good to go! (You do need to flash an additional file after at least one reboot - otherwise you'll need to enter your wifi pass after each reboot... it's the OP of the ROM thread).
I can only say for certain that xKat w/ SE permissive kernel works great on the 607t... I think any p605 ROM can actually just be flashed without modification (hopefully someone will chime in and correct me if that isn't true - I think the info about modifying zips was just speculation, but was found not to actually be the case). Just make sure to make a nandroid of the stock ROM before flashing
How are you liking the new tablet? Loving it here! I hope now the T-mobile is selling it (by far the best of their Android tablets), this device will gain back some popularity that it lost from the TabPro release a few months later. Perhaps the forum will liven up a bit
I absolutely love this tablet. Im coming from a Nexus 10 and although they share the same screen resolution, this one is much faster, sleeker, brighter, and I'm loving the S pen. I had it rooted ten minutes after i brought it home. I've also recovered from a soft brick after having flashed the wrong twrp. Woops! Ive been dying to try different rom on this bad boy, hence all the questions for you. I'm gonna give xkat a go here. I'll report back to you with my results!
Sent from my SM-P607T using XDA Premium HD app
Nice man! Feel free to PM me if you get stuck anywhere along the way
BTW: Something I just learned, even if you select the SE permissive kernel, your kernel will be enforcing unless you manually change it, either via terminal or that SElinux Changer app (forgot exactly what it's called). I had been confused re: why in "About device" it said that the kernel was SE enforcing even though I installed the permissive one. Just FYI
Does spen work on xkat anybody revert successfully and gain the function back?

Hi everyone, hope you're having an amazing day!
I was wondering if there is a root available for the SM-N910V running 5.0.1. I've looked on google, and there are lots of yes, and no answers. Could someone help clear this up for me?

Dont search for root, root method is already there for developers edition, so the fact that ROOT IS ALREADY THERE is 100% true.
What you need to search for is either "unlock bootloader" or "rooted firmware" or "rooted kernel" or something else.
Not much so far.
Just make sure when u search google, click search tools and select more recent results. That way u dont end up finding most popular pages that are many many months old.

Actually, requesting root for 5.0.1 in this forum is quite appropriate and very different from unlocked bootloaders, rooted firmware or rooted kernel. In fact, installing a new kernel or rom usually requires an unlocked bootloader and getting that done usually requires a root method first so there's some chance of writing a new recovery. With root, methods such as what is now known as SafeStrap (the result of a technique discovered by Birdman, matured by myself and then claimed by another person who's made a habit of claiming others' work as his own) can allow for quite a bit of customization, but typically not so much as a new kernel, let alone different ROMs.
Right now, the state of the Note 4 is that only the Dev Edition (DE) has much of anything going on. You'll find all sorts of frustrating and unclear information about KingRoot, but it's of almost no use unless you think you can abuse it to search for a more complete and permanent root method, but if you knew how to do such a thing, I doubt you'd be here asking for root If you see ROMs or anything else advanced in this forum that doesn't specify it's only for the DE, assume it is.
I've been around since the days of CupCake (and built WiMo roms previously, along with some of the earliest ROMs and rooting) and based on experience, I'd say that the only chance left seeing root on the retail Note 4 is if another root method (new as of today/2015-12-28) is discovered elsewhere that applies to 5.x/5.0.1 OR the Note 4 sees another OTA and we get really lucky (unlikely).
exactly why am returning it and getting S5. But even with S5 its unclear if towelroot will work or not.
I assume it will if S5 was not updated to 5.0+ but runs older 4.4.4. Is this correct assumption ?

Yes but I would do some reading in the Verizon s5 forum because there is a build cutoff for root on the s5. If you're getting a new s5 from Verizon the chances are low you will get one without the latest build at this point

I would normally have no problem diving in head first into any of these threads. The issue is that even as I begin to read them, in each of these threads there's a handful of individuals claiming something like: 'Oh, you left this step out' or 'You forgot to include' this, or 'This only applies to this, but not that' and so forth.
I'm not really knew to the world of modding, rooting, theming, unlocking and so forth...but it does scare me a bit when there's so much information that seems to contradict other information or at the very least appears to be incomplete.
If possible, can someone with a solid understanding of the Verizon Note 4 and all things Permanent Root/BootLoader Unlock/Custom Recovery/Custom ROM installation please shed some light and provide some guidance for me on this thread?
I'm sure it would benefit many.
Just trying to get this Note 4 permanently rooted, with a kick-ass recovery...a snappy kernal and an awesome custom rom for my daily driver...all without bricking the poor guy.
Not sure how much it matters, however Just FYI here is some specifics on my particular Verizon Note 4:
Model Number: SM-N910V

Hardware Version: N910V.06
Please advise if possible.

I can tell you this. The first time you permanently root your phone, it should be on stock 5.1.1.

Which Roms can be installed with QI15 firmware

I have purchased yet another note 4 for the grandson. His firmware is QI15. Original plan was for me to use it, but since my Pixel 3a XL is still yet a lease I might as well use it. Plus it is a lot faster anyway.. His mother does not have the money to buy one for him, so I figured what the hell, he can have it.Which roms can he use.. I no longer have mine, but will root this if it is still possible.. From reading you can't downgrade from MM to LL. But can you downgrade to a earlier version of MM? Thanks.
inYes, that is correct but also cant downgrade the bootloader/modem. That is because of fused 5, binary 4. and te old official stock 5DQ15 .tar md5 can be fashed via Odin. Any other stock firmware below that has a fused 4 and flashing will result in a bricked device.
If your already on 5DQ15 and wish to flash customer roms then use TWRP and make a back up of all partitions to external sd. The any custom rom for Sprint Note 4 (sm-n910p) on Marshmallow are/should compatible. Basically, follow the instructions provided by the rom developer but do not flash a different bootloader or modem. Other than that follow all other institution. For best results, start in setting , sustem update and turm of automatic updates then update PRL and Profile beforehand. Developer Option and usb debugging enabled.
Rooting the Sprint Note 4 on 5DQ15 still possible? Yes 100% SuperSu or Magisk are the preferred root methods.

Also recommend you start with a stock deodexed rom as a base before flashing other custom roms. Rom only

or
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-sprint/development/rom-t3568075
then reboot and give it time to properly set up set up. Check if hotspot is visible setting and check your apn settings. If all looks good and it should the return to TWRP and once again make a back up and rename (2019-10-05-deodexStockNoroot.....) so not to be mistaken with any other backups. After that flash root .zip and/or a custum rom of you choice.
I use the BeastMod r61 kernel by Freeza on a N4 Dtux V9 Legend rom. Fixed issues with network connection.

inYes, that is correct but also cant downgrade the bootloader/modem.

I 100% agree that not being able to downgrade sucks big time. I hear all the hipe about new Android OS updates but there are advantages of older versions. In 2018, I searched for a replacement with a lower bootloader but simply couldn't find one. Knowing that peope were bricking there device and Odin fails I decided to get one in fair condition. Being the type to mod and flash yet unsure of what ir how to do that as custom roms are specific to bootloader and modem. I figured, I'll practice with a cheap on incase I hard brick. At the time there didnt seem to be specific information on what rom worked with 5DQ15. I started out with Stockist Plus tidbits Q15. My old Note 4 was on [MOAR v2.1] [ULTIMATE Note5 Hybrid] on lollipop 5.1.1. and had lost of customizations prebuild. So going from the Mother Of All Roms (MOAR) on lollipop to Stockish Q15 on marshmallow, just sucked. It didnt take long before I started taking calculated risks with flashing and porting, even from other models and variations. Stepping out side the box but within boundaries. For instance, the n910f is an international version but much of its software is compatible with the n910p. For instance, this one works on n910p with most stockish roms on Sprint Note 4. With Custum roms it may conflict depending on the setting. If stockish rom or custom rom come with a "rom control"app (interface) and .zip in the link bellow come with "rom control" app thin it is not compatible. One cool feature is it adds "multiple user" in setting.

These n910f worked for me and has the advantage of separate .zips moding specific parts but warn that one of these .zip in the link , I believe its the "settings theme" .zip when flashed removes "hotspot" from the settings. Just 6.0mm zips are compatible on dq15 n010p.

The GRX is one of my favorites for stockish roms. It can be compatible with custom roms but its a complicated process. Im guessing it should work with the N7 hybrid rom. Its relatively easy and offers nice smooth customizations. Its a good idea to chech the setting of both settem and "setting GRX" as to avoid conflict. If you find it on XDA even better. For me, I find it to be the best thing on 6.0mm.

And the PK1 hotspot mod will work as long as the hotspot is in the main settings.

If you install Busybox with the N7 hybrid kernel I offer a suggestion.
Busybox by Stephen (Stericson)
I never installed the Dr. Ketan rom but I did look at the Touchwiz launcher provided in the .zip and it is a MM. Dont know why you got FC's . Most likely its our latest firmware that to blame.
Wish I could remember what it was I flashed to get that in my settings as I think I remember you wanted that feature.
