5.0.1 root available? - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone, hope you're having an amazing day!
I was wondering if there is a root available for the SM-N910V running 5.0.1. I've looked on google, and there are lots of yes, and no answers. Could someone help clear this up for me?
Thanks!

There is not a root available for the retail edition of the Verizon note 4 on 5.0.1.

Dont search for root, root method is already there for developers edition, so the fact that ROOT IS ALREADY THERE is 100% true.
What you need to search for is either "unlock bootloader" or "rooted firmware" or "rooted kernel" or something else.
Not much so far.
Just make sure when u search google, click search tools and select more recent results. That way u dont end up finding most popular pages that are many many months old.

Actually, requesting root for 5.0.1 in this forum is quite appropriate and very different from unlocked bootloaders, rooted firmware or rooted kernel. In fact, installing a new kernel or rom usually requires an unlocked bootloader and getting that done usually requires a root method first so there's some chance of writing a new recovery. With root, methods such as what is now known as SafeStrap (the result of a technique discovered by Birdman, matured by myself and then claimed by another person who's made a habit of claiming others' work as his own) can allow for quite a bit of customization, but typically not so much as a new kernel, let alone different ROMs.
Right now, the state of the Note 4 is that only the Dev Edition (DE) has much of anything going on. You'll find all sorts of frustrating and unclear information about KingRoot, but it's of almost no use unless you think you can abuse it to search for a more complete and permanent root method, but if you knew how to do such a thing, I doubt you'd be here asking for root If you see ROMs or anything else advanced in this forum that doesn't specify it's only for the DE, assume it is.
I've been around since the days of CupCake (and built WiMo roms previously, along with some of the earliest ROMs and rooting) and based on experience, I'd say that the only chance left seeing root on the retail Note 4 is if another root method (new as of today/2015-12-28) is discovered elsewhere that applies to 5.x/5.0.1 OR the Note 4 sees another OTA and we get really lucky (unlikely).

exactly why am returning it and getting S5. But even with S5 its unclear if towelroot will work or not.
I assume it will if S5 was not updated to 5.0+ but runs older 4.4.4. Is this correct assumption ?
Thanks for informative reply.

Yes but I would do some reading in the Verizon s5 forum because there is a build cutoff for root on the s5. If you're getting a new s5 from Verizon the chances are low you will get one without the latest build at this point

Seller said its still on 4.4.4 which is good news.
I just now need to find a thread on how to root 4.4.4 S5

Whatever you do don't take any OTA updates, some are forced so get it rooted asap and then use the pre-rooted lollipop images

Ive just picked up one of these tablets and managed to root it and install custom revcovery.
To be honest I think there are zero custom ROM for this device and the supposed Lollipop ROM on those spam sites are bound to be a load of virus. I have seem three or four such 3 part download sites all of which are hidden behind a survey. All the comments on the sites are exactly the same but are posted by different people depending what site you look at which indicates they can't be trusted.
I have tweeted Lenovo to see if they plan a Lollipop update but no reply yet.
I think we need to either need to learn how to port or find a dev that can do it

There isn't a Lollipop ROM yet for A7600f. It is possible to root and get custom recovery installed but as far as I can tell there is no official lollipop update or custom ROM development at all

I checked the link and it is for the S8 smartphone which also as model number A7600. If you have that smartphone you test it at your own risk but if you are talking about a rom for A7600F tablet it won't be compatible.
As Lenovo don't seem to be official updating the A7600F tablet im guessing we need a custom rom. Unfortunately I don't think it's that popular a tablet so won't pull in developers and regrettably I'm not skilled enough to even know where to start.

I received the s8 a7600 with android 5.0 - it looks like that OS is just installed by seller, with multiple application that are a huge adware/spam generators. I tried to remove all (root/remove apps), but it destroys a little the functionality (dialer has opacity - not so easy to find what is going on, camera not working at all). But generally works. If anyone has skills - I am sure it can be easy fixed (for example install 3rdparty dialer - but that one from lenovo is pretty fine). But I think I will update phone with stock ROM, but I need to find how to do that safely and be sure I can back to the actual software...

A bit of a necro here ...
Yep, it is a long-winded guide. I wrote everything as best I could just in case.
I'd be surprised if more than 5 people are still looking to root this device. But for those folks, I updated the guide tonight.
I hadn't used the tablet much until this past week, my phone was doing better and I was only using the tablet for streaming videos as a portable TV. However my phone died and I finally got around to re-rooting the tablet (I has lost root after applying an OTA update about a year ago).
And no, there are not any custom ROMs ... no Lollipop ... no Marshmallow ... never Nougat ... for this tablet. This guide is PURELY for getting root on 4.4.
That said, here is the short version ... this MAY work on a never-rooted A10 A7600F ... it may only work to REFRESH the root. I have no good way of knowing as there isn't a chance in hell I'm going to revert everything to stock to find out
Glad to know at least 10 people got help from the guide.
UPDATE 9/22/2016:
Revised Steps are simple:
* Download Kingo Root (not King Root, that failed) APK version for Android.
* Run Kingo Root.
* If it fails, reboot, and try again (mine failed the first time)
* Assuming Kingo Root worked the second time (if not, see the original detailed steps below) ... DON'T REBOOT yet (when I did this, the root disappeared, so I had to run Kingo Root a 3rd time)
* Install a Root Checker and verify root access
* Install (first time) or uninstall and re-install (updating is fine if yours was out of date) SuperSU by Chainfire (other SuperSU may or may not work, Chainfire worked for me)
REBOOT
* Re-run Root Checker to verify root access (don't run Kingo Root before this) ... it should be using SuperSU to grant root, NOT Kingo
* If rooted, uninstall Kingo Root
* REBOOT
* Re-run Root Checker to make sure SuperSU continued to work after removing Kingo Root.

There are multiple "A7600" devices out there. This is specifically for the A7600F, aka the A10. Different device, ROMs not compatible with other A7600 devices. Lenovo can burn in hell both for their lack of updates as well as their naming conventions.
Hi all,
I have ported a CM13 ROM to this device to bring us to Android 6.0.1. if anyone is interested I will start a thread for and provide instructions and a link later today.

You seem to be all over the place asking this same question, I'll answer it with the answer I got just by reading the threads that you've posted this question on.
1. He is testing it on the Verizon Note 4 (Non-Dev Edition) FIRST
2. Once its successful ( which it isn't as of this post) he will Attempt to make it work For you AT&T Note 4 Users.
I'm sorry if this seems rude, but you've literally asked this 5 times to my knowledge and I've only been aware of this ROM being developed for 30 minutes as of this post, and I was able to answer your question.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: THE METHOD USED IN THIS THREAD IS SUCCESSFUL ON UNROOTED DEVELOPER EDITION WITHOUT USING A RECOVERY OR AUTOROOT. FOR RETAIL EDITION, IT IS NOT A KINGROOT ISSUE AT ALL. THE LOCKED BOOTLOADER SENDS A FLAG TO UFS CONTROLLER TO WRITE PROTECT PARTITIONS INCLUDING SYSTEM. I AND @gatesjunior ARE INVESTIGATING A WORKAROUND TO REMOVE WRITE PROTECTION.
THIS MAY TAKE A LONG TIME AND IS NOT GUARANTEED !

I've only referred to this twice one in here and the other in the root progress thread. Also his initial post about this was sent 19 h ago ,I was kind of hoping he'd have all of this sorted out before posting anything. I'm glad he didnt give up like others did ,but even the Dev root thread was closed due to his post and other reasons. Thanks for answering though I actually wanted to know if anyone else was daring enough to test this on their own behalf using the at&t model ,I wasn't referring to him directly. I guess asking the simplest of questions annoys people very quickly ,I'll make sure to be specific and only post once next time.

Yeah, no hard feelings, next time more info would be better. Don't ever be afraid of writing a long post, If anyone comes to XDA, they know that the more INFO the better they can help you.
do you think he will be able to get the final touches on this method?
I've been following this thread since I first bought my note 4 in December I never posted because I don't have anything informative but I'm very phyced never had a device longer then a week without root; do you guys actually think root will be fully accomplished it seems like we keep hitting roadblock after roadblock? And what's up with this king root v4.0 who developed this and was it actually made for the note t or does it just happen to kind of work for vzw note ?

Kingroot works for various devices and happened to give temporary root for the note 4. That added a huge filling of the root progress bar for the note 4. Temporary root can lead to good things. These devs work hard and I am sure it will be root-able soon. As for an ETA, "It'll happen when it happens". I'm being positive about it.
I was gong to mention this earlier. Hopefully temp root could assist in removing security from the boot loader, from what I've read the boot loader is what is preventing full root. This would also allow us recovery and ability to flash roms/kernels hopefully unlocking the bootloader is easier now!

I wish it were that simple. Sadly, I don't think we will ever have a bootloader unlock. I am sure that we will have root, though. I am fine with just root. XDA devs have worked like crazy to get it and they are so very close.
Patience is the key to success trust me.....

I'm not 100 percent sure should I not do this method yet I don't mind testing it but will I achieve root If done correctly on my Verizon note 4

Temp root only on retail edition. Bootloader fsends a flag to kernel and it write protects cetrain partitions including system, the way I read it. And THAT (write protection) is keeping us from full root because we cant write superuser to system partition
(im dumb and may not have pieced it all together right, but thats how I understand it)
YouTube video kingroot??
Theres a video on youtube posted a few hrs ago by droidmodderx the same guy whp did the april fools joke with note 4 root method: he is claiming the kingroot qorks for note 4 on lollipop with no issues and even roots it on camera with his verizon note 4, i cant tell though if he's running lollipop but it Def is a Verizon note 4; I can't post links cuz I'm a newbie the funny think is I've been using XDA for 2 years just never posted I'm sure if you search YouTube for Verizon note 4 root and change the search options for videos in last week it will pop up from Droidmodderx Root
A DevEd Note4 can be done, Retail can not because of the write protection... Unless you can see if its dev or retail I wouldnt buy into the hype. Read what our devs here are saying about it in the root rom and multisystem threads
Comments on video are filled with people saying it doesnt work and that root is lost on reboot, and that this causes random reboots...

The instructions have been already updated (works perfectly on unrooted Developer Edition), but Samsung implements write protection on the system partition for Retail Edition only (tripped by the locked bootloader) & so, all our changes get lost after a reboot (even if you deleted directories in /system, they'll come back after rebooting the device). We're working on a workaround...

Verizon Wireless Technician and Samsung Galaxy Note Series Owner

New note 4 Owner: Whats next?

Hi all,
Just got my new Note 4. Have not taken any OTA updates so I am on 4.4.4 Android.
Whats next to root, debloat, and install a custom rom? Who's got the best minimalist type rom out right now? From what I've read it doesn't seem like there is much out there for 5.0 - just didn't know what the process was for this earlier version still, and how to make the update nag screen go away, or if there were any distinct advantages/disadvantages to upgrading.
Do you have the retail or developer edition?
Currently the retail edition only has temporary root which goes away after reboot. The devs are currently working on permanent root.
The developer edition has permanent root and has the ability to have custom Roms
I bought a retail version from the Verizon store, I didn't know there were differences actually? This makes me kind of sad now.
No known root method even for the older un OTA updated setup? Thats very unfortunate...
There is is a root method for the 4.4.4 kitkat. It's just temporary at the moment.
Like I mentioned, the developers are working on making it permanent right now.

Noob with 5.1.1, but would prefer 4.4.4 if possible

Ok, I'll start off by saying that I have searched around, but haven't been able to find a definitive and up-to-date answer. Either that, or I just didn't understand an answer because I know almost nothing about any of the technical jargon.
Here's my problem. I just got a new Sprint Note 4 and it unfortunately came with 5.1.1 already loaded, so I didn't have a choice. I've seen the difference between Lollipop and Kitkat (and read numerous complaints), so I know that I would definitely prefer to be running Kitkat. And if there's any way to downgrade for 4.4.4, I'd like to do it now while the phone is new so I wouldn't have to worry about backing up a lot of data.
Useful information: the phone is an SM-N910P and is on N910PVPU4COG5, which I believe is the latest version.
Is there currently any known method--non-root, rooting, flashing, going to 5.0 and then to 4.4.4, etc.--to downgrade a Sprint Note 4 on COG5 to Kitkat? And if so, where does a laymen like myself start?
Thanks a lot.

+1 Way too many risks trying to downgrade. There was a way mentioned to flash any Lollipop ROM but I doubt it applies to KitKat.
Give Lollipop 5.1.1/OG5 a chance. It's got some security and bug fixes the other stock versions and ports don't have. There's even some ports like themes and Screen Off Memo that work with it. And Xposed works as well.
Development is coming along. Read the thread on Sacs Note 5 port for fixes fixes posted in the last 2 or 3 days for that ROM. (HINT: Before flashing, go into the zip archive to delete the test files in /system/etc/init.d and pull the build.prop and look for dpi and set it at 640 and replace it). That will get you started with a good custom ROM that should only get better going forward. I can't recall but I think was still yet another another fix posted in that thread.
Stock OG5 with Beastmode kernel is no slouch if you can get it setup to counter the issues from applying just root.

Now, see, I don't really understand a portion of what you just said. But I get the tone of what you're saying and I appreciate the help anyway. : P

In that case, I highly recommend Hybrid X 3.0
The stock ROMs require a little attention. If you want to go with stock, I can send you a carbon copy of a PM I just sent to another user.

[q] [official howto] complete guide to root & unlock bootloader for verizon note 4
Gents,
As the title says: This is EXACTLY what I'm looking for. The thing is that after looking and searching throughout this XDA section, here's what I've found:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/general/noob-how-unroot-phone-t3418431
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/general/guide-noobs-guide-to-perm-root-twrp-t3360883
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/general/note-4-verizon-bootloader-unlock-t3358913
http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...t/howto-bootloader-unlock-upgrade-to-t3398144
I would normally have no problem diving in head first into any of these threads. The issue is that even as I begin to read them, in each of these threads there's a handful of individuals claiming something like: 'Oh, you left this step out' or 'You forgot to include' this, or 'This only applies to this, but not that' and so forth.
I'm not really knew to the world of modding, rooting, theming, unlocking and so forth...but it does scare me a bit when there's so much information that seems to contradict other information or at the very least appears to be incomplete.
If possible, can someone with a solid understanding of the Verizon Note 4 and all things Permanent Root/BootLoader Unlock/Custom Recovery/Custom ROM installation please shed some light and provide some guidance for me on this thread?
I'm sure it would benefit many.
Just trying to get this Note 4 permanently rooted, with a kick-ass recovery...a snappy kernal and an awesome custom rom for my daily driver...all without bricking the poor guy.
Not sure how much it matters, however Just FYI here is some specifics on my particular Verizon Note 4:
Model Number: SM-N910V
Android Version: 5.0.1
Hardware Version: N910V.06
Please advise if possible.
Thank you,
BJ
You got here late............................
You need a History lesson. but I don't have time to give it to you. This thing has evolved. All the threads you mentioned have contributed to the testing and understanding.
Some of the OP in some of the threads have changed and no longer list the ROM's that first came out for Newly rooted Verizon Note 4. ( I wish they would bring back the custom 5.1.1 ROM's but they have moved on to Marshmallow )
I can tell you this. The first time you permanently root your phone, it should be on stock 5.1.1.
I created a thread mostly for my own use here http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...bilized-process-to-unlock-bootloader-t3375527
My thread can get you to a rooted stock Note 4 on stock 5.1.1 but my thread was not created for a newbie. You need a basic understanding of what you are doing.

You said it all right there!
I have tried several Marshmallow ROMs and I always come back to 5.11. In my opinion it is just a better operating system!
All of my apps are able to write to the SD card with no issues and that is important to me.

Is it possible to get permanent root on the Verizon Note 4 coming from Stock 6.0.1 ? If not, is there a downgrade procedure, coupled with a perm root guide?
Thx.
BJ.
Team,
So after some more searching...it looks like this may be what I'm looking for:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/general/guide-step-step-stock-n910v-6-0-1-to-t3426905
So, here's the last question (I know, I know)...but BESIDES CM13...are there any other recommended ROMS for Verizon Note 4 on Marshmallow?
Thx.
BJ
