Huawei Screen Red Tint Issue - Huawei Watch

Several /r/hwatch users are reporting a red tint on the screen even when it's supposed to be off (completely black pixels). Support tickets have been open but unfortunately there's no line to actually reach Huawei for support, only 3rd party call center (Knoah).
Are any of you experiencing this? Currently it seems to affect ALL Huawei Watches. See below for details.

Yup, did the test with a black watch face I did on Pujie, and I could indeed see a red cast when I went in a dark room. What would be the impact of this? It doesn't seem noticable except when you put on a completely black screen. When the watch face times out.. then it is completely black....

THIS is the reason my urbane looks better than the huawei! I knew something wasn't right with the screen.

1. Ambient mode drains more battery than it should.
2. Risk of red pixel burn-in.
3. All images and watch faces are slightly more reddish than they are supposed to be causing it to look bad.
4. Dim faces on black backgrounds will have much lower contrast than they should making it difficult to read (like Wear Charge Widget)
5. For many, the Watch is their first Huawei device and first exposure to Huawei support which so far is proving to be pretty terrible. They have a 3rd party call center in the US (Knoah in Vegas) and no way to contact a Huawei employee directly to report the issue or understand what is causing it (is it hardware or software). What/if there is a fix. They have suggested swapping out the watch but so far all watches seem to be affected.

I bet most don't notice it. I knew something wasn't quite right as soon as I turned it on. I might not have noticed it if I didn't have an urbane.

Same. I knew something wasn't right when I turned it on. Hangout contact images looked terribly over saturated and unnatural. And even in ambient mode, I could tell blacks weren't black like an OLED should be, putting out more light in a dark room watching TV. Huawei said it was only affecting a few devices and they'd swap it out but never did. So I bought another one overnight from Amazon and same issue.
Trying to raise awareness so Huawei will take it seriously because right now I think they are shrugging it off since they are the best reviewed smart watch.

6P isn't shipping until 1st week of November. I definitely don't want to wait that long for a fix! If I can't get a fix within my return window, it'll probably go back to Best Buy and Amazon.

It would help if you could provide us with some pictures of your phone.
I think it's a common issue with SuperAMOLED. I had a screen burned with Galaxy S top bar, where the battery icon was. You just have to live with it...
took some pics but its not very obvious on camera - guess i'll just live with it didnt realise it was a problem with super amoled screens tho!
I would return the phone to get a warranty-replacement.
Never heard of screen burn with AMOLED-screens before. I have my Omnia7 since November and there isn't the slightest hint of a screen-burn yet.

Go to Samsung Galaxy S i-9000 area and Search "Screen burn". Theres plenty of threads and posts about screen burn. Also Wikipedia confirms OLED displays burn in: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screen_burn-in#Plasma_.26_LCD_.26_OLED

Oh...I just knew that blue colour will fade with time, not that it can burn in. But this happens when something like a logo is displayed for hours every day. I doubt that this effect is meant to happen with a phone display that is off most of the time and when it's switched on it displays a lot of different pictures and apps.
Hmm...I would definitely try to get a replacement -I won't accept a burned in screen.
Blimey this is like Plasma Display burn-in all over again....
Glad I have an HD7 then
Returning a phone for repair is so much hassle tho it can takes aggess and may even lose all my data on the phone (hmm unless latest update has that backup thingy) i'll leave it for now see if it gets anyworse! Other super amoled people beware!
Bought my Omnia 7 in germany and have also experienced a small form of burn in when I am surfing the web.
The 2 circles leave a burn in when I slide up the IE options bar. This fades away over time and is the same type of behaviour as on plasma TVs.
I wouldnt worry much about it if it fades away. Turn off your phone and check if the marks are still there! I am certain that they wont be!
But if they are ... get it fixed.
Hi, just a suggestion... Try to enter LCD test via samsung codes.. Search on this forum for samsung codes..
Yes, screen burn in is common with Super AMOLED screens. However, you shouldn't have a problem unless you leave your phone on (set to the highest brightness with a static image visible) for hours on end.
I've seen a large number of Galaxy S screens with imprinted icons on them, and the reason for that was because they were left on for hours.

I saw this on the Display Focus at my local AT&T. they have the demo mode going, so when it's not being payed with on top it always says Windows Phone and it got burned on.

Burn-in is actually the end results of some pixels faded more than others. So, yeah, blue color will easily have burn-in effect since it only lasts about 2000 hours.
I know that retuning the phone for repair will cause you wait for ages but there is not another way for it..So you should copy your private data in your laptop or any other storage device .So it will be kept safe with you...
Well i had the worst combination then because i had the blue theme setting and i decided to keep my brightness on full! so thats what caused it then!

Exactly. On my Captivate (Android), I found most of the wall papers on Android are blue themed. In early days of Nexus One, it was reported that using a red theme not only saves your blue pixels but also saves battery.
In comparison (2,000 hrs of Blue pixel life), modern plasma TVs typically has 80,000 to 100,000 hours of phospher life. So, AMOLED/OLED screen is way to easy to get burn in. The only saving grace is most ppl already move on to new phones well before all these panel life span issues show up.
I've uploaded some pics! One is not much use, i was amazed how microscopic my cheap webcam was!!!! but still it woulds seem the dark patch is growing and hmm i didnt know that about the blue pixels! wont be using that again!

[Q] Wearing the Moto 360 while driving is a pain

Please excuse this post, if something similar has already been created, I haven't found one yet. But has anyone noticed that wearing the Moto 360 while driving is a problem, especially at night? Maybe there is a setting that I don't know about that you can turn on, but the other night, I was driving home in the dark, and every little movement with my wrist, the screen would light up, it became quite distracting, I ended up having to take the watch off. Has this happened to anyone else? Have you found a way around this? Any solutions are welcome!

I drive with mine quite a bit and don't experience this. I believe if you turn Ambient Screen off in settings, the watch is less likely to light up with small movement. It takes more of a 'look at your watch' move to make it turn on.

Since day 1, I have had Ambient Screen off, I think it's more driving at night than during the day. I was wearing a t-shirt, so the watch wasn't covered, so I noticed the screen light up often enough that it was annoying and some what dangerous. I wish they would create a driving mode, or even a mode past the 2 they have now, where the screen only lights up for notifications or if you click the crown.
This is why I don't drive with 1 arm over the top of the wheel leaning to the side.
At 10 & 2 there isn't that much of the face turning on. But I do notice it occasionally. I adjusted my arm position to stop it though
I experience exactly what you are describing. It's very annoying and I think it's a huge drain on battery.

Same here. I now take off my watch while driving. I used to with a normal watch anyway. Microsoft sync on my car handles all my notifications and med is controls while I am driving anyway so the watch is redundant.
Glad to hear I'm not the only person who experiences this. It would be really great if they would incorporate more than 2 screen functions, like always off except for notifications. That would also help a ton with battery life for some people.
9 and 5 with a black watchface. No issues.
What I do is flip the watch over to my wrist. Helps a little.

It activates itself every now and then, mostly when turning. I don't really care though, at the end of the day, it impacts the battery by maybe 5%.

Can't tell if you're joking or not.. but driving at night with little street light (some freeways in the CA are like that) and have a full-blast white light coming suddenly is a distraction.
I had Llama on my Note 3 and configured it incorrectly and one time, it put the brightness at 100% (suppose to be 10% at night) and it's quite blinding when it happened suddenly at 75 Mph.
Of course, I don't have the watch yet (coming this week!), so I don't know how bright this is.
I just drove 1 hour on a road so twisty that it is impossible to go the posted 45 mph limit. At 4am, It's so dark you could see the milkyway clearly...my 360 turned on 3 times and two of them were when making 90 degree right hand turns. I wasn't bothered, but ymmv.

[TIP] How to get rid of the "annoying" charging message?

Galaxy Note10 TIP:
This is how you get rid of the message at the bottom of your screen (Note10/Note10+/Note10 5G) when you are charging your device:
1. Download this wallpaper: https://mega.nz/#!FogyWSxS!z6fV8XsrWK5LbOZxo4aV7Q3_BhH6yjM5sDW08zIGn5I
2. Create a folder on your phone, eg "Screensaver"

4. Go to: Settings -> Display -> Screensaver -> Select Photo frame -> Select Screensaver

If you have gestures without hints turned on, you don't even have to download a wallpaper. Just set screensaver to Photo, but don't point it toward your Google photos. No pic to display, it will just show a blank screen.
I get why people would want to get rid of the informative text at the bottom.
I don't find it annyoing at all, I even find it useful. Quick and good way, IMO, to replace the LED.

Depends on your definition of "far too long."
Depends how long you usually keep a phone. Most payment plans are 24-36 months. Major update as tend to come every other year. So what's far too long?
Depends on if you leave it on the charger for hours or just occasional top off.
Depends on other screen activity that might counteract that burn in.
Depends on how much the OLED technology has improved to combat burn in.
I mean, people are buying $3000 OLED TVs and getting burn in on their screens in under a year. So is, what...10 months far too long? 6 months? A week? 2 years?
May not be for everyone but if you have S View Cover, you can disable AOD only when the cover is closed! There is a settings option for that.
No burn in, no workarounds.

Mine never moves. And even if it moves just a pixel or two, you'll still wind up with burn in, because that leaves the majority of the pixels stationary. Plus they're just moving over the same spots over and over again.

Question edge bleeding at low brightness

Hello, tonight i was configuring my youtube app and i noticed very bad colors at the edge of the display, when the background is grey. I was in a complete dark room, the problem is most noticable when brightness is about 15%. And no, its not only the app. The bad colors are visible at a brightness from 0% to 50%.
Do you guys also have this problem?

The Mi 8 has it also, that is screen uniformity. It is hardware and it seems very common the last few years. I don't have it on my Oneplus 7 pro but it is also present on the Oneplus 8, Xiaomi Mi 9 etc.
Some folks say it is normal on oled but it isn't.
Why are the no problems with oled on Oneplus 7 pro, Samsung s10+?

i have the same problem, always visible when you have a dark(not black) background, note i had before 1 samsung s2,s4,a5 (the a5 when i was watching a movie in dark scene i could see a yellow brightness in one corner,it was awfull)and a tablet from the same manufacturer and all had the same probleme but at different level,my last Mi9t was parfect and screen didnt show that but my new F3 has it ,one side is clearer than the other one
As far as I know it is because of the AMOLED manufacturing tolerances, it seems to be really hard to get a perfect uniform display.
It shows at low brightness with grey screen especially.
Discussion also happend with the Mi 8 here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...moled-uniformity-issues-etc-for-mi-8.3843180/
Lol, I was just about to start a topic about this when I saw yours. Only dark gray backgrounds and top left is brighter then bottom right. Disappears at about 25% brightness. On the photo it seems green but not to the eye...
So if I send the phone back I'll most likely receive a new one with the same issue?

you have a chance to get another F3 with same issue or less visible or worse

Lol, as u can see, my issue is in the same area, but mirrored.
I think, if u send the phone back, maybe u will get one with the same issue on diffrent corners. Only if u r lucky, u will get a good screen but then maybe the vibration motor starts crackling xD
I will keep my phone, cuz everything is fine for now
Well, yes, I'm a nitpicker really and there's always a small problem with a device it seems. I can't find anything else so I guess I'll settle for a small uniformaty of the screen. After all it's only with gray and in a dark surrounding. When watching a dark scene in a movie in inperceptable and maybe I can switch more elements to black using a custom rom (hope lineageOS will show up).
And maybe when there's a way to do DC dinning and not PWM it'll be better....

It is in general really hard to get a perfect display, be it on phones or on PC monitors.
Also TN and IPS panels show their weaknesses at "grey" colors, it makes the uniformity visible to the human eye.
Additionally trails and overshoot of moving objects on a grey background are most noticeable.
Not sure why "grey" is so devastating
I don't know. I'm from NL and here we have a lot of "grey areas" so guess I'll have to get used to it
Mine has a similar grey gradient visible at low brightness and solid colors, but it doesn't seem to be discernible in anything but settings. My old phone has a "perfect" oled though, so it's definitely possible.
Solid colors seems fine, or my eyes don't perceive it...
Probably the same case as processor cores: bins. Maybe they pay less for getting screens that are not 100% uniform?

Question [CLOSED] Poco f3 green tint issue

Hello iam a new member on XDA,
I want to ask a question, can the green tint on the Poco F3 be minimized with just a software update?
and this green tint occurs when activating the screen in dark mode, 120hz, brightness is below 30%, in low light condission and occurs when displaying dark gray, will this get worse for long use or not?
I was worried because it was my first time buying a smartphone with an amoled screen
Thank you.

Someone tried hentai os and reported that there was no green tint in that rom, so it is probably a software issue. Lets hope it gets fixed in future updates.

Yeah lets hope its gets fixed in futurs update, thanks for your answer.
I'm still waiting on delivery for my phone, cannot comment on the issue right now.
However, I think a future software update can minimzie the effects of the issue.
I'm not sure if it can eliminate the issue altogether since it seems to be a prominent issue with all OLED panels.
Thats called (not uniform issue). It cant be fixed by software update. No matter what you do. Similar to Oneplus 7t/8t/8pro as well.
Don't think I'll ever use the brightness that low, but I'll check my unit once it arrives.
I was contemplating on getting the Blue color which I think is a newer batch, but I pulled the trigger on the Black on as soon as the seller on AliExpress allowed shipping to Canada (didn't want to wait to take a chance and have to wait longer).

Xiaomi Mi 11X/Poco F3 display green tint issues on dark backgrounds to be fixed with future OTA update.

I still don't think the issue is going to be totally eliminated, but I'm pretty certain the future update will minimize the issue.

I hope so, thanks you.
Sorry to say this but this is a difect inherent to the production of amoled screens.
i had 2 poco f3, the first( wich had also this difect) and a second one that i'm using right now that does have a perfect screen.
Having a good display is just luck, returning it might not solve the problem ( they can send you another one with a "bad screen") and the green tint is not eligible for repair
Software can't do miracles either beacause they can't calibrate a screen solely in the area of the problem and if they reduce the overall "green" of the display they make your screen purple on the "good side".
Also different displays are affected to different degrees so they can't release an update that is good for everyone

So based on your conclusion "green tint" on OLED type screens is a natural thing?
and depending on the luck of the buyer too
thanks for the answer.

Unfortunately, but it's true. Manifacturers doesn't see a partial green tint of the screen while displaying grey colours at low brightness levels as a defect.
Oneplus and Pixel Phones are also plagued by the same problem. you have to win the screen lottery to catch a good one
My K20 pro is oled screen and there is zero green tint in low brightness so it is not all oled screens. I think it shows more obviously on grey backgrounds so i will see if i use substratum black theme on apps when i get my phone that is if it fixes the issue.
you are right... its really obvious more when i have a OP7PRO next to it, the oneplus screen is perfectly uniform.
I will try take a photo with one next to each other.
This is the Poco F3 8 256gb Arctic White
Double post... idk why but xda gave me error.

I don't expect that. Do you really think that a software causing this?
Lower grade LED panel is the cause. Nothing new.
They can only try to "hide" the problem with some color profile management tweaks.

nop i don't think so, its sometimes less noticable depending on your screen colour settings but is always there .
During the day is hard to notice so is not that bad i guess?
But during night , man its impossible to don't see it .
Mine is like way too red on the sides and green in the middle.

I dont have strong background in electronics but this is my personal opinion. Please correct my terminologies.
I think, the quality of the Amoled display of Poco F3 is just too high. It looks like you are watching 144p video in a TV with 4k display to the fact that you can literally see the pixels. I think this is what happening here in Poco F3. The quality of UI esp. the grey is too low for the Amoled display.
What do you think?
