Nexii vs Droid Turbo - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Towards the end of last year, I ended up upgrading to the Motorola Droid Turbo due to the new features and a good spec phone. The biggest drawback that I have with this phone compared to my old Galaxy Nexus is the openness or lack of rooting capabilities. My main question is given the specs of the 5x, 6p and Droid Turbo...is it really worth me upgrading to a new phone (minus the rooting portion)? I feel like the 5x is underspec'ed in comparison with small features such as the camera and the 6p seems overly large for my pocket/everyday use. Any thoughts?

Thinking of Getting a Nexus

So I've got a Nexus S right now that's barely making it and i've been putting the idea of buying a new phone particularly the galaxy nexus.
Besides the upgraded processor and screen, is the phone that much better?
Thanks again for your help guys.
Compared to my buddy's Nexus S the GNex is only better in some points:
- better multitasking because of 1gig of ram
- better camera
- apps loading faster
- better design. my personal opinion
- better screen
Besides the battery life, which is better in the nexus s all the other things are equal to the nexus s.

I did the same upgrade, it's worth it. the larger screen takes a little getting used to, but i'm super happy with the change.
As an added bonus, since there is only 2 models, only one of which is international, there are a lot more accessories available for the device, more case choices etc.
I made the same upgrade. Now when I go and use my mom's nexus s, I see what I was missing out on before the upgrade.
There is always the option to upgrade to the S3 or HTC OX but realistically, I've have had all the nexus phones so far and cannot see myself changing that. Not to mention, if you buy the Gnex now, at least you know for sure that you still have around half a year before the next nexus is announced let alone available.

Motorola xt886 vs galaxy nexus.

I am going to be getting a phone with a company called iwireless which is a tmobile affiliate. They only really have two decent phones to choose from. They are a Motorola xt886 and a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I am tyring to decide which one is going to be better for me in the long run. I will be rooting it and trying out different roms.
Here are some pros of the Nexus
-Galaxy nexus has a much bigger community behind it as compared to the xt886. looking at the forums it kind of seems that way.
-Galaxy will be likely have people developing for it for a couple years (I hope)
-HD Super AMOLED™
-1.2GHz Dual-core, OMAP, TI
Some pros about the xt886
-ColourBoost™ qHD (960 x 540 pixels) TFT LCD
-1.2 GHz dual core
-8MP camera
-(from Motorola site) This smartphone has a splash-guard coating too, a high-tech, invisible nanocoating that shields against the unexpected splash—not only on the outside, but on the electrical circuit board inside the housing as well.
They are both the same price. Also iwireless will be getting the S3 at some point. It was suppose to happen before Christmas but they have been having some slight issues apparently.
Should I hold out and wait for the S3 (which could be months, no idea really) or go with either one of these phones? Thanks for the help!!

go for the nexus.. that qhd screen sucks compared to the screen of the nexus and the cameras that motorola uses are really bad, even if it is 8 mpx , the pics will probably look worst than the pics taken with the nexus. and being the xt886 a little brother of the original razr you can forget about getting any update.
Don't buy Motorola.
They promise an update, but when the time comes, they just move it to the next quarter. When the time comes again, they say "Sorry, but your device will stay on GB 2.3. You can get a 100$ refund towards the new motorola device", which will be updated for sure, as they promise.
Pretty much everyone here is a nexus user and will recommend such. With that said play with both, see which you like better, walk out with nexus.
Honestly I considered renewing my contact and getting an S3, but after playing around with a friends I'm happy with my gnex, its noticeably smoother in everyday use and it gets updates. So after seeing the difference in performance a nexus provides, even with weaker hardware, I've determined any android device I purchase must be a nexus.

Should I actually get this phone (vs Nexus 6)

Hey guys, so I'm upgrading from my old galaxy s3 tomorrow to Verizon's Edge program with my family. I'm a big multimedia user for my smartphone but I equally care very highly about durability, design, and future-proofing (raw performance). Therefore, I'm deciding between the Nexus 6 and the M9. Here's my breakdown of pros and cons:
Motorola Nexus 6 (24.99 on Verizon edge)
+1440p display
+/-phablet (I could see myself enjoying the size for videos)
+stock Google
+more likely will receive os updates earliest
-only somewhat metal construction
-about to be replaced by the next nexus only too soon
HTC One M9 (also 24.99 on Verizon edge)
+brand new
+snapdragon 810 latest cpu and gpu
+best build quality / design (big plus for me)
-eh screen size compared to competition
-1080p screen (will this really bite me in the next few years?)
-apparently a problematic device with regards to quality control?
Now: I'm especially concerned with some of the problems I've read with the m9 with regards to the poor battery performance, breaking of turbo charge with recent updates, the under-saturation of the color gamut which I didn't like seeing on store models, possible overheating which I heard was fixed before launch. Are these issues still plaguing the phone and would you stray away from the device altogether if I could instead choose the nexus 6?
Thanks in advance!
I really like my m9. I don't see more heating than the m8. I don't use quick charge no idea battery gets me through the day.. I would buy it again.

My experience is the M9 is a great phone. It doesn't get too hot but, but because of the all metal chassis it feels warmer than usual. I don't think this is a bad thing because than it should dissipate the heat away from the processor. The battery don't seem too bad. I get about 3 hrs of on screen time with nfc, wifi, Bluetooth, and on LTE. Turbo charge works just fine, and i use it on my car ride home all the time. I find the color fairly accurate, and the updates seems to come pretty quickly K so far. We have great developers, and it's easy to unlock, soff, and to convert the phone to WWE. That's why I think I get the updates pretty quick, I'm on 5.1 right now.

@katana5
I most definitely would not. I bought the m9 after only owning HTC phones. Worst phone I've ever owned, no better than the m8 I had before. So I returned it and bought the nexus 6 and absolutely could not be any happier about the decision. You'd be getting a big downgrade all around. There really isn't a 2015 model phone out that beats the 2014 models except for maybe the S6. I'd either keep the N6 or wait until the Snapdragon 820 comes out and is hopefully better than the poor sad worthless 810/808.
Edit: didn't catch that you don't already own the N6, I would get that one. Best phone I've owned.
Coming from the S3, anything will seem like a big upgrade.
I looked at the N6 but decided against it because it was just too big for my taste.
HTC has fixed a lot of the problems with the 810 with recent updates. So I don't see that as a minus anymore. I have never really had any problems with overheating or throttling, but I don't use my phone that hard. Battery life has been fine. Some people have reported charging issues, but it's not universal by any means. I have not.
Development is better on the N6, as it usually is with any Nexus device, but it's good enough on the M9 and certainly better than Samsung, which has progressively locked down their phones, especially in the US. Keep in mind, though, that the M9 on Verizon does not have access to HTC dev unlock because Verizon is blocking it. There is a way to get s-off, but it's not as simple as with the GSM model.
If you watch a lot of videos and want the biggest/best screen you can handle, I would go with the N6. If you want the best build quality and design in a solid package, get the M9.
I think it is more about if you want a large screen or not, as both devices are fairly compatible. Coming from a Nexus 4, I considered the Nexus 6, but I didn't want such a big screen. My wife is the one that wanted a big screen. But I opted to get her the better device, so I got her the Note 4. I miss having vanilla android, but Sense 7 is such a smooth running UI and now themeable, I'm really pleased with it.

M8 vs new nexus 5 2015

I've been using the M8 on Candy5 5.1.1 and switching to Cyanogenmod nightlies for a while now, I am curious if I should consider the new nexus (I've had the nexus 7 2013, own the nexus 4 and owned the nexus 5) and am wondering if it would be worth upgrading to considering the rumors are probably truth at this point with the hexacore, fingerprint scanner and usb C, but I am a flashaholic and the M8 has been one of the only devices I've owned that has a TON of support and working roms for Sprint. Is it worth it considering the new nexus over the m8? Assuming I can purchase the 32gb model, I am heavily considering it for rom support alone.
That is your choice. No one here should sway your opinion. Obviously the newer device will be "better"... But I imagine the improvements will seem miniscule.
I'm really looking forward to having a fingerprint scanner. I also miss wireless charging from when I had a Nexus 4, I know that this is slower but I just let the phone sit overnight so it's no big deal for me, plus it's awesome to just put the phone there without any effort. I've had my M8 for almost a year now, if the new Nexus 5 or even the Huawei Nexus are not that expensive I might migrate from HTC, but if those phones are flagship priced then forget it (that's the only reason I skipped the Nexus 6).

Do you feel disappointed by your pixel c? (and google by extension)

First it was speculated to come with chrome OS (at one point it was found to have been originally planned for it), then the thing was sent out with bugs (I had the random reboot and now severe lag) that were promised to be fixed by software and never were.
NOW I read were not even getting Android P even thought the tablet is more than capable in handling it.
I have to be honest Im SEVERELY disappointed in googles newest devices. The Nexus and Nexus S were solid, the nexus 5 was a miracle, the 5x was a slight taper down with the bootloop issue but google made sure to take care of a lot of those people. Now my pixel 2 already had the mic bug, was replaced and now has the loose USB C issue and will have to be swapped again. On top of that the pixel c was being sold new about 3 or 4 months ago and now google is basically telling those people "hey guess what you bought something were not supporting!"
Honestly this was a pretty pricey tablet but between the random rebooting and atrocious lag that never got nor will apparently ever be fixed, I for one am completely disenchanted with googles devices. I see the watch may be coming out in fall but I dont know if I can bring myself to even be curious about it.
How do you guys feel about the tablet? Do you have any of the issues? Do you plan on buying another from them?
I don't own this device (yet) but having only every used Nexus tabs (and I have used them all) and hearing about Pixel devices, google needs to either A: reform their in house hardware development system (fire and hire designers, get more people to scrutinize design, better manufactures, etc.) or B: Scrap in house hardware design and go back to other OEM's and re-open the Nexus program, preferably with Samsung and HTC, because let's be honest, the best Nexus devices were made by them hands down. LG Nexus 5 is the ONLY exception and even then the Galaxy Nexus was better. I know option A would cost A LOT, but that extra cha ching is just an investment really. Better hardware sells better and builds more confidence in your brand, which is pretty much non-existent in the Pixel Line up. Case and point it sucks that you are having these issues, and reccomend you sell your Pixel C for a good Nexus 9 or Nexus 10 if you don't mind leeping back down to android 6.0.1 (or staying at 7.1/8.1 if you don't mind a lack of camera or flash)
I think this is the best Android tablet ever built, even if it is a couple years old now.
Great build quality, great screen quality and dimensions, fast and great battery life.
Nvidia X1 is also the best chip ever produced by the company: great Gpu (as K1) but this time also solid CPU.
It is perfectly enjoyable even stock.
I had no reboot or lag or other problems here.
I am coming from Nexus 9 (previously owned also Nexus 10 and Nexus 7 2012) and Pixel C is a great improvement
I am also quite disappointed:
At least I expected that ChromeOS would be ported to the Pixel C. Reading some discussions here, the Pixel C is already fully prepared for ChromeOS. Even the bootloader seems to be a ChromeOS-Bootloader.
The next disappointment was that the Pixel C wont get an official Android P ROM. I expect that LineageOS will deliver a P ROM. We will see.
I also do not intend to buy a Google device again if I can avoid it. Because of an broken display I recognised that Google has a pretty descent support. But the devices are much overpriced, like Apple. But a Killer-Argument for me is an official Support for a custom ROM. (Because I normally intend to use my devices MUCH longer than the manufacturers intend to deliver updates.) Otherwise I would have an Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (because of the pen). So it is possible that i would by another Google device, but it is not very likely.
