Making my own bootscreen, can anyone help with some info?

Ok,... My Hero gets delivered tomorrow (my 1st Android device), and I want it to be completely my own. I want to make my own bootscreen... but want to know two things,...
1,... If the preset one already on there loops over and over, or if it just plays once?,... If it does loop, can i change it to only play once?
2,... What size the file of the preset one is so can try making mine roughly the same.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

The stock bootscreen is made of 2 gif files. the first one runs 1 time, the second one loops until the phone is done starting up.

Basically anything up to 320x480. And keep them indexed 255 colors. Then if you have images smaller than 320x480 you place them with a config file.

File size doesn't matter that much. Of course there is an upper limit, but I have made all the way from 50kb up to 8mb bootscreens.

[REQ] Boot Animation Help

I tried to create a Ghost in the Shell Laughing Man boot animation, but it doesn't seem to be working for me. Think anyone could take a look at it? Here is a link:

I just can't figure out where I'm going wrong. Any ideas?
Credit for the images goes to Sushiman0001 and Nocturnophile.

Your desc.txt is wrong.
Should be
480 800 30
p 0 1 part0
PS: You might want to optimize the png images.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try those. Any advice on a good program to optimize PNGs?
EDIT: I tried changing my desc.txt, and still no dice. Any more ideas?

Try PngOptimizer, fairly simple to use. Also, the desc.txt should be edited with a program like textpad or equivalent so it saves as an unix file.

I'm using notepad++. Would that work?
Yes that should work, but make sure you specify that its an unix format file not PC. Also the dimensions of your images are 480 x 854. The evo is 480 x 800.

Awesome, thanks. I'm going to crop the images, optimize them, and then use your desc.txt.
Also instead of fps of 30 like in 480 800 30, try 10 like as 480 800 10

Galaxy S2 Stock Bootanimation finally extracted!

Finally Samsung bootanimation binary started to talk to me, she lets film her!
Especially for Themers this meight be interesting.
DOWNLOAD:
http://www.mediafire.com/?6mfvaff436n7at6
How can we apply this bootanimation?
It works on MIUI?
yea how to apply?! Usually they come in a .zip format and called bootanimation.zip right?
Yes!
The fle have .zip format and is located in /system/media, but this file only have the images of the bootanimation, not properly the final boot animation file to replaced
I didn't release this as a bootanimation, cause it is a lot of data, that would need to be processed, I already tried it, but it lags as hell. If you want to try, or if you know how to optimize the performence of it:

Updated Version see a few posts below!

Maybe the lag is caused by the current number of pictures, not?
I'll see if I can reduce the size by some MB, maybe this will reduce the lag...
will post here as soon as I find time to put my hands on this.
Ok, I optimized it a bit, a bit of quality is lost again, but it's performence seems quite good.

Maybe the lag is related with the number of pictures and pictures quality.
If it's true, we have to reduce the number and/or quality....

I tried many configurations, but the one I uploaded is the best so far. I also reduced the amount of frames or the compression, but well... it just didn' t look right.

Thanks! excellent!!
So here we go:
Didn't try it on my phone but should work.
Put the glowing part at the end as part1 folder and set it on infinite repeat so I could delete some redundant pics and the rest was optimized, so no deleted frames inbetween or whatsoever..
Guess 5mb size should reduce lag to a minimum
Good extraction, like this boot
Thanks alot 4 sharing

To reduce the lag, It is needed to reduce to size of the images this means to reduce the resolution to 75% and use jpeg then it runs smooth. What I uploaded had already the looped part at the end.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
i reduced the size of the images without reducing the resolution and know its 5 instead of 15mb and still png-format...
didnt try yours so i didnt know you already looped the second part
edit: just flashed mine and it works pretty smooth without seeable quality loss i would say
Sent from my KillShip Galaxy S2 using XDA App.
I took this a step further and got it to play quicker by removing some frames and increasing the framerate. Just need to figure out how to smooth the shutdown animation now.

Nice work
---------- Post added at 03:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:23 PM ----------
Upload the last version plz
Here you go. I basically just made it 60 FPS and deleted every other frame along with a few others that looked like duplicates because I noticed a slight hesitation during playback. I just used the windows photo viewer preview and looked for frames that didn't change and removed them. Then I had to double the frames for the part1 folder because it was playing too fast so every 2 frames is the same. Then spent a LONG time renaming files although it doesn't seem to be necessary as it just reads them in sequential order even if they aren't side by side numbers.
It's not quite as smooth as the video from the OP, but it's a lot better than stock.
Here's another version that's even smoother, but plays slower as a result because of the additional frames. I just removed the duplicate frames and converted them all to jpg. It won't seem to play any faster than 60 FPS. It's not a perfect match for the bootup sound like the previous one, but it's nice if you prefer a smoother experience.
I'm working on one that will include 2 bootup animations. It will have the android glow 1 from Dysgenic's thread and the "droid" sound followed by the smooth animation and sound in this post.
I noticed that in the youtube video it has the sound as well. Any chance you can post the poweron.wav?

Haven't tried yet but I would like to ask you one thing.
You tried to make animation from video? (let's say YouTube video)
Because if I make animation from rendered video, I always get white flashes between loops.
But if I make my one pictures, from PhotoShop (video which I render to png's, not to video format) - it's o.k.
It's soooo frustrating, can't find any solution.
I saw few posts related to this problem (I'm not the only one) but no answer.
One guy suggested that I should try to set FPS to lower value - but that doesn't help.
I have few animations and I find a way to include sound in it but they all flash white so it's useless....
Tnx mate, I'll try animation

U should keep on trying bro
i used Sony vegas, for converting and rendering. and boot animation factory for making the zip file.
yeah i used a video file. It took me some hours ( half day) to make this work. i got many errors while making this one.
i got white flashed & some times no boot animation just black screen.
i failed in adding sound, i have to learn more. and there are few steps that has to be done correctly, when converting a video to boot animation and to play sound while boot.
now i know to do that , this boot animation is the result.
i intend to learn from someone, if they have helping mentality.
btw fps settings changes the speed in which the animation runs. depending on the animation we can increase the fps.
in this im using 20. if u use 30 the animation will be faster. thats what i understood from researching. correct me if im wrong.
next is adding sound and text animations on video etc, thats what im thinking to do next.
Have rain sounds?
Edit : tried it,white screen appears more than 3x while playing the animation...

XS, this is tablet.
For sound you just have to rename mp3 to bootanim.mp3 and put it in a root of bootanimation.zip (and remember to set compression method to storage)
You are right for FPS, that's, of course, how you speed up animation.
Check my animation, I made a few.

This the same dark_samus from the LG Optimus Slider Days?
I talked to you a couple times in IRC and really enjoyed CM7 on the slider (So, if it is you, thanks).
Oh yea... And this should be added to the partition layout thread, that block was listed as unknown.

Yes this does just so happen to be that same dark_samus (its a little offtopic) and CM7 was mostly rhg135's work but i helped a bit (I was a no0b back then lol) I actually made a splash screen later that you can still see in the latest TWRP releases and the last CM7 rhg put out... Anyways just so the mods don't get mad I'd suggest adding something about the topic to your post
Anyways more logo.bin info the actual resolution of those images is 320x290 hence the weird lines and centering issues... Ill have a script up sometime soon to replace these images after i figure out some weird coloring problems I'm having with my raw images
EDIT: Block listed as unknown?.... copied from dproldan's post directly
Code:
179 8 1024 mmcblk0p8 logo.bin
My bad, when I looked (on my mobile) I forgot to scroll sideways. Must have just spaced it. My bad.
