[Sony] Xperia Open Devices Project - Xperia Z5 Original Android Development

Sony Mobile is committed to supporting the open developer community, and one way to show this is by publishing parts of our code as well as selected tools developed by our internal developers.
For some of the Xperia™ devices, we provide Android™ Open Source Project (AOSP) device configurations on GitHub. This means that the software will be open for you as a developer to use and contribute to. This is a way for us to support the open Android community, and it is also a tool for us to facilitate and verify contributions to AOSP.
If you want to build AOSP for your unlocked Xperia device, you find all the resources you need in the sections below.

You said "Open source is important for us" on developer world blog... then why Sony blocks great camera features when we unlock bootloader?
This DRM protect is bad for encouraging open source community.
There will be more people if Sony doesn't use DRM protect for (at least) camera functionality.

Sony is doing far more for the developer / ROM community of its devices than any other OEM. The S6 and M9 won't have a good AOSP build for a while, probably ever.
Keep it up Sony.

That is my main question too, before I commit to getting the Z5.

I'd unlock the bootloader on my Z5 in a heartbeat, but considering I'd lose the camera and screen enhancements, I simply can't. People talk about how great Sony is to the developers, but considering that we lose device functionality (PERMANENTLY) for unlocking the bootloader, I simply disagree.

If you make a backup of the ta partition you could always restore it and therefore restore functionality.

To make a backup of the TA you need root (last time i checked). To get root on this device currently you need to unlock the bootloader, wiping the TA partition (last time I checked).

Precisely, and it could be months before we get a root exploit, or worse, never.

Well by the looks of Android M we won't get locked bootloader root on it due to kernel level enforcements. But I could be wrong and somebody could figure it out and work around it.

Well considering the Z5 ships on Lollipop, all we need is a root exploit for 5.1.1, but 5.1.1 has been out for awhile, and we haven't gotten any news...

No not really, looks like the X-Reality isn't working anymor.

Take a look here about the DRM and Bootloader. Looks like I won't mess with mine when it arrives. Pretty silly that DRM is tied into so much.

I can confirm that the image enhancement ( X-Reality - Super-vivid ) ain't working anymore.
I believe re-locking the phone not gonna help restore the missing features, am I right?

Would custom roms have these missing features? my 1st Sony phone, and I'm really hating the experience.

Not if you did not do a backup of them which seems to be not an easy task on recent Sony smartphones from what I heard. Sorry but these features are not available on custom roms...

[Q] RAZR Moto's 1st unlockable bootloader.what it means for us??

Motorola has confirmed that RAZR will be launched with an unlock-able bootloader..does that mean that it would be easier to port ICS on defy too??or it has no benefit for us, the defy owners??
sadly no... no implication on our development unless our boot loader is unlocked. that means no custom kernel for us.
Just wanted to add that the GSM version, outside the US, will have an unlockable bootloader.
The CDMA/LTE version on Verizon will be locked.
I thought its just one version...capable of GSM+HSDPA+LTE or CDMA
Can you paste the source? Thanks
I NEED TO KNOW~~~
Not even a meaning.
You know why, because DefY is a old phone, like Milestone.
(I'm talking about the DefY non plus. plus maybe get a chance unlock, since it's new)
so if defy+ gets an unlocked bootloader, they can make it work on defy as well, right?? i am not very knowledgeable when it comes to bootloaders and custom kernels...also, does having a locked bootloader affect the chances of running CM9 (whenever it is released) on defy??
I was hoping a reverse would be true since our defy is old and hence can be unlocked wirhout much pressure from the operators.

Some kernel specific features may not work but CM9 most certainly will be supported.

That is not entirely correct.
It's just that Project Cheesecake (search for bootloader related stuff on Moto dev serveres) didn't bring up something useful.
All other attempts to attack the bootloader have been unsuccessful so far.
So samcripp has the support he needs if he asks for it, but AFAIK there are simply no new leads to go after.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

[Q] Sony Xperia ZQ important questions

Hi, I m from Brazil
I just bought a Xperia ZQ and it s my first Sony. Can you help me with some questions?
I ve already know that I can change my carrier version by another registered one downloaded right here in xda website without root or unlock the bootloader, right?
As I m not a developer, why would I need to root and unlock the bootloader?
Where, if It is possible, can I find different skins and themes for it?
How can I know about new upates? For example, new releases of firmware or android versions?
Thank you

Its called Xperia ZL so just search it on the search for device bar. You dont have to be a developer to unlock as unlocking can give you cool roms that can be very much customized.

You get updates thru SONY and you will get a notification when you can get a update.
To see if you can unlock your bootloader go to
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions as it will tell you the directions then once you have unlocked, go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2095 and find some roms. ( its a little dangerous if you dont know what your doing ) and UNLOCKING will void the warranty

If you have already unlocked your bootloader, without backing up your Drm Keys, then you wont get the bravia engine back.

The phone is fantastic, but the battery is below average even with 3g, altough the relates i hear about SIV are even worse. Since HTC don't sell officialy in Brazil anymore, i don't trust in LG and Motorola don't have a rival for these phones i think ZQ is the best choise.
I'm a heavy user, so i charge it twice a day,but with moderate use + stamina mode i think you can get a day of battery.

[Q]Root/CR/CFW

Yo sup guys,
I had luck and hit a deal to gain the ZL for 240€. It's not shipped yet so I just wanna make sure I'm well prepared when it arrives.
However, after watching like every review and "VS" video on youtube, especially checking Bravia Engine HERE I'm pretty sure I don't want to lose it (btw what's your opinion here?).
I checked as well the possibilities of UB/Root etc. I've been facing some confusion anyway so I'd like to ask here.
The Bravia Engine will ALWAYS be available as long I don't touch the Bootloader and let it stay locked, correct?
And I'm able to Root the phone, install Touch Recovery and use a CFW, correct?
I found the following tutorials which I'd like to work with:
Root
Touch recovery
CFW
Thx so far for your attention and hopefully your answers.
Peace
I have one. It is lovely. But I believe the screen could be better. However watching video and pictures the colors are good and nice.

As long as your bootloader is locked, you will have the Bravia Engine 2. However, you can backup your TA partition in case you want to unlock and later lock it again.

Yes you can root it, yes you will be able to use TWRP Recovery and you will be able to have eXistenZ CFW but with X-Reality instead of BE2. At least that's what I see on the screenshots in the topic you liked.

Also, is there no way or CFW for using Bravia Engine? What about this Pimp my Rom thing? Not sure but I think I've read you can "patch" Bravia into the Rom with it.

Thx. I just checked it out and think I'll stick to the plan to let the bootloader stay locked but root it, TWRP recovery and use eXistenZ.
If I anyone has anymore to contribute I'd like to read it.
Multi Boot
Hey guys,
I gotta misuse my thread for another idea I came along. How about multi boot with locked bootloader? My plan is to at least use Stock Rom and the eXistenZ Rom. Maybe trying out more later on. The options I came along yet either required an unlocked bootloader or will only work with AOSP Rom's.
Anyone an idea?
Peace

[Q] How to unlock if bootloader if bootloader unlock says NO?

Is it really locked?? I wanted to unlock it to change to a diferent phone career (which now is not really a problem), but now it seems I won't be able to install a custom rom can it be done? Do I need to specify any other characteristic in here?

No problem!
One good thing is that you can flash stock based Rom's, and we have one of the best out there in Niaboc's ExistenZ Rom.
Flash that Rom, and used the xposed modules, and you can manipulate it to your liking just as much as aosp or CM roms.
Especially xposed modules like "HK Themer" let you install CM themes to stock roms!
Give it a shot! ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2385313

It piss me off, i searched during many hours for a way to root my XA1 Ultra (G3223). It seems Sony took the decision to lock the bootloader of this model..... Go figure out why.
Sony has a developers community and claim they 100% support the open source type of stuff.
Even provide assistance with an online tool to unlock sony's bootloaders and they have tutorials and ressources for basic android développement infos. ....
hen i tried with my XA1 Ultra, it simply said my model cannot be unlocked.....
I even ask their community leaders to make an exception or something and unlock mine....
but they just said its impossible to unlock it, sorry there is nothing we can do....... Yeah Right!
LG, Sony & Apple dont share the same vision and values than the xda's developers community does and should be boycotted)
