How do you reflash without a recovery?
Sent from my LG-D851 using XDA Free mobile app

You still need a custom recovery, this zip just won't overwrite it.
If you flash with twrp, you'll still have twrp after the flash

That worked great. Thanks

Worked great, Lookout security says I'm not vulnerable. Here's a download link for SuperSu to flash after flashing 20G update https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95857557620392009

Per the Zimperium app, the 20g update is still vulnerable...

Great
Lookin good on my Lg G3.

This is the checksum that I am getting. Anyone else can confirm this is correct?

So does anyone have the latest 20g radio in a flashable zip? Also, this upload is VERY slow, could someone please please reup to a faster host?

Not sure what you did differently. This is just the stock update from zip from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/development/d85120g-stock-update-zip-d85120e-t3218287), with recovery.img removed, and the updater script modified to NOT flash the recovery.
Only way I can think of that you could have deleted everything on your phone is if you did a wipe first.

No idea here as well, did not wipe before. I flash things all the time, just the normal load zip, flash, reboot was done. Then it loaded up, saw root was lost, went to boot back into recovery, erased everything.

oh no i think im up a creek
so i flashed the rom and SU then as im rebooting to DL mode to reflash my recovery.img the effing cat jumps into my hands and knocks the phone out of my hands and out popped the battery. now when i hold vol up and plug usb in i get the quick blue DL mode screen as usual but no firmware screen to follow, insted a black screen with 6 tiny white lines of text in the top left corner that read as follows
[600] fastboot mode started
[690] --- reset ---
[700] --- portcharge ---
[860] --- reset ---
[860] --- portcharge ---
[1070] fastboot: processing commands
the rom still boots if i battery out and restart also have done multiple factory resets
any ideas in fixing this would be greatly appreciated

Looks like its booting to fastboot mode. You can flash proper recovery using a PC and the adb\fastboot package. Been too long for me to remember details but google will get you the answer.

Hard brick resolved

I finally have everything working again. I had the phone booting via the "unbrick" SD card last night but every attempt with 2 different MJB zip files failed. I eventually just found this one http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23212708291681451by @loserskater and tried it and it worked. I can boot without the SD again. I did donate to him as a thanks.
First I followed this thread (and read through Mr x's thread as well) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2549068
I was then able to boot the phone via the special SD card.
I then kept fighting with trying to get it to boot without the SD card. Since I could get to download mode I again ran CF-autoroot and I flashed TWRP 2.6.3.0 via ODIN. I kept booting to recovery and could not get either MJB bootloader that I found to work. I did get a status 6 when I tried CWM which indicated a syntax error or formatting error. I eventually found the zip file below and that worked via TWRP and then I was set.
I hope I remember everything - I was up until 4am and then didn't get a lot of sleep so I'm a little "fuzzy" now...
I will try to clean this up later for other's reference.
Edit 4: I can now get to TWRP by booting via an SD card with the unbrick file. I can also get into download mode. I tried flashing the MJB bootloader zip file via TWRP but it keeps failing. What is the next step to correct the bootloader problem if I had MJB and flashed the MJ2 bootloader (yes that was dumb...). How can I get the MJB bootloader files onto the EMMC again?
Help! I have flashed custom ROMs hundreds of times on my Captivate, Note, and Note2. My wife's S3 has been stock and had the OTA 4.3 update. After a few attempts, I did get root and TWRP 2.6.3.0 installed. I installed this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075639- was able to update SU and restored user some apps via TB. The "about device" still showed "enforcing and she had the MJB bootloader. I rebooted to recovery and again ran the "Knox removal script" which I had run a few times already. This time I ran it and then flashed the MJ2 bootloader from the OP. I can't get it to turn on now. I pulled the battery - no luck. I plug it into my laptop and I hear the sound of windows recognizing the device but it doesn't show up. If I leave the battery out and plug into the PC, then the red LED flashes. If it was my device I would be bummed but being my wife's phone, I really am hoping someone can help...
Edit: I have been trying the 3 button recovery and download options with no luck.
During my captivate days, I used a "JIG" for getting into download mode but am concerned even that won't help if there is a bootloader mismatch or something like that.
Edit2: Even though I have a black screen, I tried using ODIN and connected the phone and it says "added"! I will now look for a full bootloader flash via ODIN
Edit3: It seems like if I have the battery removed, hold the vol. down and home and then plug in the cable, ODIN recognizes it so I have a ray of hope but am still a bit "panicked". I am looking for a full MJB firmware flash via ODIN
Did you try and reboot into recovery (not download) and flash the MJB bootloader??? that is what worked for me.

That is what I have tried multiple times but it keeps saying failed. Can you send me a link to the exact zip file you used? Did you do anything such as flashing anything right before (supersu update), etc? I am very hopeful now knowing that you were able to get it to work.
Edit: I have a couple of .zip files that are supposed to apply the MJB bootloader files. One of them @loserskater posted comes up with a status 6 which I am researching now.
What recovery did you use TWRP or CWM? I've been trying both.

[Q] TWRP

I updated the software on my DEB Nexus 7 from KOTH49H to KVT49L and now I can't install TWRP.
Are they in progress of making a new recovery img so that it works or should I revert back to KOT49H?

I originally started out with PA 5.0 BETA but, then I reverted to stock to get the update. Full flash black to 4.4.2 KOT49H then I factory reset it once more to make sure everything is okay. After that I completed the setup Wizard and let all the apps update, after that was done I would reboot the tablet and then activate developer options. I flash using a batch I made that simply boots the tablet into bootloader then it uses the command fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-deb.img and reboots the device. Once it boots up I reboot into recovery and it shows the stock recovery instead of TWRP.

In the process of resetting back to factory, did it relock your bootloader? I ask only because some tools do this automatically. I had to ask.

Nah, I did it manually to see if locking and re-unlocking it would allow TWRP to be flashed but, that didn't work.

Welp, can you BOOT into twrp...i.e. fastboot boot openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-deb.img then you can root it (a suggestion to use goo was here, but forget that).
If you can boot into twrp using the above suggestion, you can at least root and get some stuff done while waiting for a fix or update or someone more knowledgeable than I to solve your issue.
The only thing I can think of is that the bootloader changed and we are back to where you started, waiting for them to update it for your bootloader.

I am browsing the root and it seems like they made a backup file that defaults it back to the original recovery. I am assuming this has something to do with Verizon because they patched a lot of stuff in the update or so it seems.

Hmm, as you probably know there is a file that is normally renamed in the process of installing recoveries to prevent that, my guess is they changed the name or location or added a new one (with a diff name) or did something with the permissions so it could not be renamed, and I'll bet if you boot into twrp and rename that file you'll be able to flash and boot into twrp, though I'd make sure the contents of that file ONLY do that one thing, and that renaming it won't cause it to boot loop.

[OTA][TWRP] ZVA to ZVC modified OTA (See Notes)

DISCLAIMER:
Your device, your responsibility. I am happy to offer these tools but understand the risks before even considering.
Thank you.
OK, I've finally got a working OTA so I'll post this for now.
If we are able to improve on this without breaking something else I will edit this later.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
1) This has been tested and will flash TWRP to complete the OTA process.
2) At time of original post you will lose Loki exploit. I have provided suggestions in Post #2 how to get around that.
3) I had latest SuperSU and root prior to flashing this. It held without further action.
4) I highly recommend making a backup and storying a copy off your phone before starting in case TOT is required.
We had several issues in testing and that backup helped get back to a place to keep testing.
5) Do not wipe cache/dalvik between flashes of the OTA zip. You'll lose the stage counter and have to start over.
6) This ZIP will only work on a complete (odexed, bloated) stock ROM. You can be rooted but you cannot be debloated or deodexed.
If you made modifications to the stock ROM you will need to undo them. The most common, wifi tether, I've addressed in Post #2.
Link to current working OTA:
http://www.rwilco12.com/Files/Garwynn Projects/LS980/ZVAtoZVC/ZVAtoZVCTest7.zip
Instructions:
1. Download and store on phone. You do not need to store in /cache/fota.
2. Reboot to TWRP. Before flashing this ZIP you will need to turn off signature verification.
This is because I broke the signature when I modified the OTA.
You can certainly turn back on after this has been flashed.
3. Flash ZIP. This is phase 1.
It checks that everything is right for patching, flashes the modem and replaces kernel with TWRP.
When this finishes, reboot to system. This will load TWRP again but from boot partition.
4. Flash exact same ZIP again. This is phase 2 and very quick as it just flashes TWRP to recovery partition.
When this finishes, reboot back to recovery.
5. Flash exact same ZIP one more time to execute phase 3.
This is the actual patch process and will take some time.
It also undoes the aboot revert and drops the ZVC stock kernel in boot partition so TWRP is no longer there.
6. When last flash finishes, wipe cache/dalvik and reboot to system.
If the update fails on any step, stop and restore the recommended backup.
If that doesn't work use the ZV8 TOT and restore your phone.
(This is why I suggest backing everything up before update, better to be safe than sorry)
Thanks to autoprime, savoca and viperboy for bearing with on testing so far.
Thanks and hopefully we'll be able to improve on this in the coming days.
Supplement Post:
Pre-OTA Install Q/A:
1) What if I have Wifi Tether installed?
A: Use ZVAServices.zip in the post below, then flash this zip.
This rule applies for anything that fails on first part. If a patch check fails it means the file doesn't match ZVA stock and needs to be swapped out.
***WARNING***
The information below will show you how to get in and out of TWRP after OTA.
If you didn't use the OTA zip in the first post you must flash TWRP into recovery before anything else. Let's not brick any more, okay?
Please do not use these files before and understand the process before trying this.
This method of getting in and out of TWRP breaks download mode while aboot is reverted.
3 people have bricked and cannot flash a TOT already because the steps were not followed.
There are better solutions in the works now and should be posted soon.
2) What if I want to use TWRP?
A: Download this file:
http://www.rwilco12.com/Files/Garwynn Projects/LS980/ZV8_aboot.img
..and this file for later:
http://www.rwilco12.com/Files/Garwynn Projects/LS980/ZVAtoZVC/ZVCRadio_Full.zip
and from ADB shell or terminal, su then the following:
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/Download/ZV8_aboot.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/aboot
(assumes file is in Download folder)
Note: I have assumed you already have TWRP flashed from OTA.
If you're doing this from anything else, flash TWRP in Flashify before anything else.
... then reboot into recovery.
3) Okay, but if I flash the aboot revert I break the stock kernel and download mode, right?
A: Yes, but that's why you grabbed that ZVCRadio_Full.zip.
Flash that in TWRP right before booting back to stock KitKat or to fix download mode.
4) Will there be an easier way for this?
A: Probably, but I don't like leaving loose ends. This is a workaround until a safer solution (in works by Savoca and others) are ready.
Count me in for testing. Im a trucker so battery life and gps a must. Ill test them heavily
I am currently on rooted ZV8 with twrp as the recovery, can I flash this directly or will I have to first update it to ZVA ?
Thanks garwynn for the extremely quick work. You are awesome!

That's what I did. But if you have the wifi tether hack installed that has to be undone first.
The attached file will do the trick. Flash this first in TWRP before trying the modified OTA.
No rush, but will we see a ZVC full, stock rooted ROM anytime soon? I am relying on the permanent sim unlock, so have to be extra careful.

[ROM] H932 Oreo v20k - stock - keeps TWRP

This is ONLY for the H932. There are no ASSERT checks, so you better pay attention. If you flash this on any other model, you will brick your phone.
Also, I was in a hurry so there is no progress indicator. Just let it flash, you will know when it is done -- it doesn't take THAT long.
So you have used lafsploit and would like to have Oreo back -- got ya covered.
Flash this zip: link in TWRP.
Code:
SHA256: [B]931f3b424c8d5af3bb6b88863fc8659fa9c4ffef87f53b3eb3f33d4670debd58[/B]
You can dirty flash it over 10d.
It is 100% stock. The only change I made was removing recovery-from-boot.p, but it appears that isnt enough to keep recovery from getting wiped if you dont flash Magisk.
After flashing this, you MUST flash Magisk again or you will lose TWRP and root, and have to use lafsploit all over again.

When you download the file, what's the file name? Is a bunch of random letters and in bin format? I may have issues going on here

H93220k.zip
But I think Brian uploaded a fix for it
Fixed

Thanks for that. Hmm I definitely have something going on then. This is my file name after it downloads
1XAfpo2cZvdZrPICeYg_UIvA0oeE0V1ux.bin but it has a meta folder so it's a zip for sure but I bet it's getting corrupted on the download.

Have you tried a different browser? I had an issue similar a bit ago(not related to this file), where the file was downloading as a bin. I tried a different browser and no cognito mode and it fixed it for me.
Cleaned
Well, I did it to myself. I was in a hurry and wiped everything and installed the Oreo zip, booted up without flashing magisk zip and stock recovery came back and I haven't had time to start from step 1.
Don't do what I did, FLASH MAGISK after the oreo :doh
I just re-read the OP and I don't know what I did that caused TWRP to go bye bye but stock recovery absolutely came back.
Thanks for doing all this for us. I literally have nothing right now to give, but I will be donating in the next week or so.
@Josh McGrath Weird. I wasnt able to test the zip since i boxed up the V30 that i was loaned to make this happen. I have double checked that i removed recovery-from-boot.p .. there must be another mechanism in place that restores stock recovery. I will update the first post so people know that flashing Magisk is NOT optional.
Sorry you have to go through the process all over again.

Believe I nuked LAF, download mode acts like it is booting up, freezes with the little logo then reboots to system, not able to use LG up at all due to not going in to download mode, tried using lg bridge to fix recovery(refreshing latest firmware thinking it would maybe help rejuvenate LAF)
Couldn't get fastboot to work at the beginning, but ended up being able to relock the bootloader
were the mess up was I believe, thinking h933 LAF was still installed and rerooting.
Anyway to flash LAF thru FWUL?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news too. But I don't have a download mode anymore either.. can't even boot into it. Tried it with just plugging it in as well. Doesn't exist.
Also don't have TWRP because I didn't flash Magisck after.

If I remember correctly I flashed majisk after flashing 20k.zip, wish I would of waited to update but at least others will be aware.
Still great job @runningnak3d, might wanna pull the 20k.zip for now, seems there is another check for lafbak to overwrite LAF corrupting the partition

It put stock recovery back on

[ROM/FW][STOCK]LG V30 (Joan) T-Mobile H932 20r TWRP flashable firmware (incl. ROM)

LG V30 T-Mobile H932 20r ROM
For U.S. T-mobile H932 ONLY. Do NOT install this on any other V30/V30+/V30S except U.S. T-mobile H932. You will brick your phone.
DISCLAIMER : I do not hold responsiblity for any of the following but not limited to : Bricks due to not reading, nuclear war, cat dying. I will not be held responsible for any damage of any kind due to the result of this zip. It is held under your own risk. This does not mean that i wont help in any way shape or form to recover from anything that may happen at the result of flashing this zip. PLEASE FLASH RESPONSIBLY! PS. This zip has NOT been tested by me!
This Rom is 100% Stock. Most recent TWRP should first be installed. Then you can install this Rom and have Oreo with working TWRP.
This zip is created from the original KDZ. It contains almost the complete 20r firmware, but the partition table rewriting part and recovery image is removed. I changed the system.img, so you do not have to reinstall TWRP (recovery-from-boot.p deleted) when ROM once booted. I also changed the partition size of system.img, so the vendorized people can install this too without having problems because of a too small system partition. This is a continuation of westwood24's idea and work, I've updated it to the newest fw version and edited / advanced it a bit. I followed his idea and made this for users who can not take OTA's because they have Custom Recovery / Root installed.
Features
Stock build made from official KDZ
Stock Build.prop
Unrooted
system.img modified to keep TWRP
System image size shrunk for being able to flash this on a smaller system partition, mainly caused by vendorizing
Removed dm-verity
Removed rctd (LG's root checker tool daemon)
Enabled opt-encrypt, it's your choice now if you want to encrypt your phone, it's no more forced. TWRP now is capable of decryption (both AOSP and stock) since a few versions
Added DTS build prop
Added all lockscreen weather animations build prop
Installation
What you need
Unlocked Bootloader [How to do]
Working TWRP installed (should be installed already, otherwise you wouldn't need this zip )[Link to newest unofficial TWRP]
When you need Root, Latest Magisk [Download]
H93220r.zip [Download]
How to install
When you are still on Nougat,
you should start fresh: Reboot to recovery using button combo or reboot app (needs root; btw, Magisk offers this possibility too: Menu -> Modules -> three dot menu top right - Reboot to recovery)
Then flash this TWRP.img via image flashing function in TWRP, reboot to recovery again (for fully working new recovery) and do a backup, then copy this backup to your PC.
Then initiate a factory reset. Wipe your system partition too in TWRP advanced wiping menu, copy the 20r firmware zip to your SD and install it. Reboot and enjoy
From Oreo:
For clean install: Factory reset and wipe system
You can also keep your data by simply dirty flashing the zip. *Be aware that problems may occure, maybe you need to do a factory reset to start fresh*
Flash the 20r zip, then Magisk zip when you need root, then reboot to System = you're DONE
P.S.: could be, that you first need to boot up your fresh install and set it up before you can flash magisk.
At the first time you boot to system, it can be TWRP says No OS installed. You can ignore it.
If TWRP asks if you want to install SU, hit no (in newest TWRP SU is disabled, and the option to install the TWRP app is disabled too.)
Rom Version
Android Version: 8.0 Oreo
Android security patch level: 2019-1-1
Don´t forget to hit the thanks-button if you like this zip! :good:
You want to help me with a [donation?] Not asking for it, I have fun doing this for you, but feel free...

Please to anyone who had issues with the zip.....
We have a fix!
Flash this zip
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=1395089523397908552
Then flash a rom from your SD CARD
ONLY FLASH THIS OF YOU HAD A BRICK FROM 20R!!
Zip is live! Enjoy!
your zip name is wrong.. should be h93220r* ( it doesnt matter but i was confused at first)
also, i flashed it and nothing happened. my system is still the same as i was before (20p)
and in the script, i think it says 'model=VS996' or something. since it just words, it may not matter.
but maybe you used the wrong script for h932
In any case, the zip did nothing for me. flashing only took about 10 secs in total, and flashing system barely took a second.
So seems theres an issue with the zip. Maybe upload didn't quite finish as I did it while at work via rdp to my pc at home. Will look into it when I get off work

At the end of the flash it looks like it flashed fine but then it tells me it failed to mount everything. When I go to reboot into the system it tells me there is no OS. I was just going to flash the 20p zip I had but then it restarted and now I can't get into TWRP again. Now it just restarts into fastboot mode
UPDATE: I was able to get back into TWRP by going through the factory reset option (Volume down + Power, etc.) I'm now flashing the 20p zip I have.
UPDATE 2: Didn't work. Got into a bootloop. Restoring an old Lineage backup I have. Should have made a backup of my current state before flashing but I wasn't thinking
UPDATE 3: That didn't work either. Everything I flash it tells me failed to mount '/persist-lg' and just boot loops. I guess the next thing to do is try and use LGUP to restore
Same here as above. Doesnt mount system persist cache.

Thanks. Searching around, I see there have been people having issues like this before with other devices. Something to do with the persist.img. Did the last zip include one? Also, I hope whatever it is can be fixed with a new zip. I don't know why restoring a backup or flashing an old full stock zip wouldn't fix anything.
This is basically what I'm getting
