How to root the Butterfly 3 ? - HTC Butterfly 3

I have a new toy, the Butterfly 3 (au HTV31).
Can you help me to root it~? thank you.

Hello, There is no free rooting method available yet. All you can do for now, if you are S-OFF is to unlock bootloader.

I've created a thread on how to root using TWRP here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/butterfly-3/development/guide-rooting-guide-twrp-2-8-7-0-t3251434 hope it helps

Not sure what you're asking here. You'll need an unlock device to unlock your bootloader/S-OFF. Sunshine may be releasing a new root method though, that might work.

Safer root?

Who is waiting to root without having to unlock the boot loader? I am dying for root access, but I am very worried about unlocking boot loader. I am a pretty advanced end user... Still, i don't want brick this awesome new phone though. Your thoughts and experiences would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance...

Firstly you cannot root unless you unlock the bootloader. Secondly the only current method to unlock the bootloader is via HTCDev.com which is an official and tested method. You will not brick your device unlocking this way.
That's why I am asking about the risk of unlocking the boot loader. I guess I will just go for it?!

You'll be fine - it's easy to do. Plus if you do get stuck there are one or two people on this site who can help you out!

Which phone should I select on htcdev.com to unlock the one x? All other models supported? It would be better to unlock it on a non-htc site, to avoid them knowing your warranty is expired after that..

I was wondering if I should select all other models too. Good to know it works considering all the warnings HTC posted on that page about things that can go wrong.

On HTCDev.com select "All Other Models". Just to clarify unlocking the bootloader on this site DOES NOT void your warranty. If your phone developed a screen defect for example HTC would fix this without charge under the warranty. If you bricked your phone as a result of flashing a custom rom then HTC would tell you to jog on.
Currently using HTCDev.com is the only method available to unlock your phones bootloader.
I was a little apprehensive myself but did it today, took all but 5 minutes!
Very easy and straight forward! Just follow the guides in the development section

Thank you very much... But if I do unlock the phone, could it prevent me to update to 1.28 fw as it is released? Otherwise, if I wait for 1.28, can I unlock later? Maybe the two things are completely unrelated, can you clarify me this point?

[R800X] Should I unlock My BL After 2.3.4?

Well, I've been gathering up the money to unlock my bl. Here's the problem though, should I unlock it, then flash the 2.3.4 ftf, or upgrade then unlock?
You could Unlock your BL first because Alejandrissimo can set you up so you can still OTA with an unlocked bootloader all in one session with him. But theres no reason you cant OTA now and then unlock later.

I read that the bootloader unlock method might have been patched with that update.

You could always be the first to test that
Kidding, if thats the case, then you could ftf back to 2.3.3 when you wanted to unlock, unless that wouldnt work either? Probably best to just unlock then update I guess

Ya I'm gonna stick with 2.3.3 for a while, until I get the last couple of bucks to unlock.
I'm now wondering exactly which method to use to unlock my BL on my r800x. Any guide someone has written that is current?

Unlock international one x without htcdev

As the title says,
is this possible yet (or is anyone working on this??)
Haven't found anything about this (just some old topics from 2012.)
>edit: If not, is a root without htcdev possible?
- Matt
Nope, you need to unlock bootloader first to gain root access to your phone!
To do that, you need the unlock_code.bin file from htcdev.com
I don't think it's possible to do it any other way
I'm not able to unlock from HTCdev.com

I'm pretty sure on one of the unlock threads, it says to contact @ryanbg to have a custom unlock binary made. I think you have to send your CID and aboot to him, and then he can make you a custom unlock binary.
EDIT: See the note in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3398144

No need to unlock bootloader. Sunshine has the option to keep bootloader locked and s-off. Since you're on Android 6, Sunshine will temproot your phone and set it to s-off without unlocking your bootloader

I have another quick question.
How do you unroot the phone without leaving a trace of root?

Well, you need custom recovery to make a backup. I really can't remember if Sunshine delets everything on your phone or not. I would advise you to look up Sunshine s-off for clarification on that. If it doesn't, you're good to go. Just install TWRP, and backup everything
