[REQ] Nexus 6P port to mate 7 ??? - Ascend Mate 7 Original Android Development

Hello everyone,
I think what i want to see for my huawei ascend mate 7 dual sim 32Gb is a pure marshmallow rom !
Before my huawei i had a nexus 4 .. It was amazing the number of roms and cuztomizations that we had on that device. But not on the huawei.
Cyanogenmod, MIUI and AOKP either doesnt support the mate 7 or they are poorly ported and unusable !
I hope a team would work on making a nexus 6P port available and working on our mate 7 !
Thank you

Well sorry to say that but this phone has a very weak modding and developing scene, I guess we won't see something like that..
Let's just hope that Huawei makes a decent Marshmallow rom for early 2016 :/
But I think this phone is nice even on Kitkat, I still don't see any reason to update to L, so if you have anything that you dislike try to fix it with root/xposed and all that kind of stuff
before driving yourself crazy while waiting for a AOSP rom

I just would like to see this nice phone running a pure android rom .. The last lollipop rom (B324) is way more better than kitkat .. Way smoother, more stable and the battery life increased (deep sleep just got better).
I put my device on normal power plan (no battery saving) .. i only protect chatting apps to run while the screen is off .. the result is a nice performance/smoothness with an increased battery life. (the smart power plan is not really smart) "i just wanted to share this"
Back to the thread, like i said before, i think this device would even run better on pure android .. way better ! my phone is rooted, i use google now launcher, i wish i can chance the notification bar to the lollipop notificatio bar, becuz i hate to swipe left and right to alter between the notifications and the shortcuts.
I hate everything customized by huawei except the camera app
thanks

yeah I unterstand what you mean..
but if you have not noticed yet: if you pull notification bar on the left you will get to the notification panel, and if you swipe down on the right you get the shortcuts. If you prefer to use your phone one handed then you won't really benefit from that, but if you use your phone with 2 hands like I do most of the time it will be useful.

haha it s not just about that .. the official notification bar is 100% better .. smoother and more appealing .. also i really wish i can have a light pure android experience on the mate 7 it s shameful that such good device didnt get a better xda treat
thanks

We will never see a pure ROM porting (no chinese roms, no porting from other phones like the honor 6 with KitKat) for this phone unless huawei releases important source files. I also opened a thread on xda with a petition http://forum.xda-developers.com/mat...pdate-ascend-mate-7-stock-derivative-t3241661 but we are only a few.
I suggest you come back to nexus because with Huawei we can't do anything.

some questions about ascend p6

hey guys,
i've been doing some reading on xda for the past few days to determine wich phone i should buy.
my choices are lg nexus 4 and offcourse the huawei ascend p6.
my first thought is to go for the nexus but as it's quite old it's hard to get (with carrier/provider subscription). it's possible but i have to choose a provider with wich i have serious doubts.
in that matter the huawei has better options for me.
but i'm not 100% convinced to buy this phone but i'm sure it has got great potential. i also really like to use custom roms and kernels.
the bootloader..
i've read that it's unlocked but has got some kind of encryption so in some way's you can say it's still locked.
though i've seen that recently there is a custom kernel available.. so does that mean that flashing custom kernels is possible?
(if i would buy a huawei it would be a european version btw)
i'm starting to understand you need to be on a CN version/unlocked firmware in order to flash custom kernels. what does that mean? does it mean you need to be on the chinese versions?
and what about going from european firmware to chinese? is this possible without problems/bricks?
one other great thing about this phone that it's getting that 4.4 update. is there any news that this new firmware will be open source?
i've also read that there is going to be a google edition of the p6 wich means a clean android version, wich means open source?? please correct me if i'm wrong!
my first impression reading this section is great, i see some dev's that really are putting a lot of time and effort in developing this phone.
i have also seen that the p6 had some bugs when it's launched but many of them are repaired by stock firmware updates wich is a good thing.
hopefully you can help me a little bit so i can make my choice..
many thanks in advance!

Hi,
I cannot answer your questions, I just have laid my hands on a P6. I'm coming from an SGS2 (I still use that one)
My initial impressions of the P6 are mixed.
I like the thinness. I love the material (there are only a few metallic Android phones out there). I love the speed.
However, I do not like Huawei's ROM. The user interface is more like iOS, so I installed NovaLauncher, it makes life better But it looks to me that some important Android features are absent. For example, the native Android SIP client seems to be inaccessible (or is it just me not finding it?) HW wise, having the USB/charger socket at the top of the device rather than the bottom is really clumsy. The device can get uncomfortably hot during usage.
I am tempted to try a different ROM until Huawei comes out with a KitKat update,
never mind..
my first thought went to the Nexus 4 and today I've discovered it had the best deal for me.
i had to pay extra for the ascend p6 were the Nexus 4 was free in combination with my carrier subscription.
so the choice was pretty easy.. the Nexus 4 it is..
I have it running on HYDROM, and batt. life increased a lot. Really love my P6 (coming from iPhone).

Your opinion about Android L

As many of you may have noticed, google android gave excellent news for L (4.5 or 5.0) has a new interface, new keyboard, ART runtime, Project Volta and endless deployments to the system, from my point of view, this will be, so far, the update with more changes to date, and I see a great future in android.
Q - What is your opinion about this update?
Q - Our Optimus G will be able to get this update? (Obviously not by LG)
I make this post since no one around here seems excited as I am
Write your review below :highfive:
Sorry my bad english, I'm using the google translator
i think its a really good update, the change from android 2.3 to 4.0 was good but android 4.0 was sad too much black, too serious. this version reminds me of samsung : childlish colors, big things... i would like a more serious os but whatev... im really excited about that update i think its gonna be good, I want it!

that's true, black is not it look bad, but bored after a while, for me, the new look is "solid", and most of all simple, I'm excited, because maybe, improving performance and the battery life due to ART, is significantly better than kitkat
There is also a reason y black has been chosen..to reduce t battry consumption...also it wrks well in case of amoled screens...
I like the L look but I also like the new LG interface from the G3. Remember you will get most of the L features as updated Google apps roll out. Once the Nexus 4 has this update it will be pretty straightforward to get it on the Optimus G. But I think the best solution for this phone will be: official KK, root and theme to get G3 features, and use the redesigned Google apps as they come out.
I'm expecting CM12 late this year. The new UI looks great.
Surprised to see so many excited for ART.

Absolutely agree with this. I'd say not necessarily the official KK, but stock-based, like Sling or VDT. Personally, I don't like the L look, from what I've seen. Some components are just plain ugly, for example, the keyboard. To each their own, I guess...
As for ART, the dealbreaker for me is Xposed. When it starts supporting ART, it will make sense to upgrade. Until then, no.

Well, for LCD screens, the difference is very marginal, if not negligible, since the backlight is the main power sucker. Only AMOLED will give you a measureable power saving when using black.
I hope Android L, as I read in the forum the nexus 5, the battery life has drastically improved, 2h SOT (Screen on Time) to 4 + to some users says 7 hours of screen time
and overall performance is more buttery and solid
I'm excited, hopefully developers porting nexus 4 to achieve, then our talented developers can port it to Optimus G
Excuse my bad English, I'm using google translator
I love the professional UI. I'd love to have a stock Android L experience if it ever comes to O.G
In my opinion the core experience and visual changes are improvements and to the regular Joe they might seem ok but I'm concerned about the hability we will have to modify this new version. Seems to me Google is locking it Down some to make it more "secure" and now it will be using Knox tech on that front. If we start getting qFuses ala Samsung we are going to have a hard time modding out devices it's not going to be impossible but very hard. Look at the Verizon and AT&T latest Samsung Models, they just now got rooted and beyond rooting custom roms might be possible but kernels and recoverys will be very very hard with the locked Boot loaders. And Google now wants to be like Apple and lock it all down. That part I don't like.
Sent from my Fully Modded N3 using XDA Premium HD app
No, they may want to lock the source. Tho, you can run any modification you want, if you know how to do it. In 1.5 it was a hell harder than it is today. So seeing people complaining about being hard to put a mod because you have to move stuff through folders, give permissions, and use a terminal, make me incredible nervous.
Still, I highly doubt they will lock the source. Android growns due the freedom of its open source. So no, it will stay opened, what the OEMs does is problem of the dumb people who gets their devices because they want a trademark logo instead of a good device.
Android L is like a revolution upgrade, not by looks, by the API's they put in it & ART will be default.
As a android developer I'm really surprise how much easier some API's have become, and ART is a big deal in developing for android.
Can't wait to start using those API's.
Q: Will LG release Android L for our E975?
If so I'm stick with this phone, love the Optimus UI, its really easy to use.
else have to buy a Nexus or G2 or G3.

Well, i think our Optimus G officialy die with KitKat 4.4.2, i don't believe that LG will update our device to Android L, or almost near in the future.
RIP Optimus G with Official updates, now its only on the hands of the developers!

Are you talking about the L? Then no, you are not the only one... I find some new functionality quite impressive, but the UI is just ugly (to my taste). Also, can't understand what the big deal is about the new animations, shadows, etc. (basically, the whole Material Design thing)...

Happy to get the regular ART, but Android L is just to a version to sent older smartie's into retirement. Will see how CM's work is done with L. Don't think L is featured that well. Just to make it compatible to Wear and TV and so on ? Do I have to buey a new TV now ? For what ? Don't see serious graphical improvements. But everyone has his own opinion.
For me it is just creating a hug bubble with nothing serious in it.
Regards.

It has a lot of new features. Some even from PA. Paranoid Android devs themselves loved L because is finally getting where they wanted it to be. Also, I loved the UI, looks better, tho as I'm a oem firmware lover since my Xperia s, it may have helped a lot. Never liked stock aosp Ui anyway.
I don't like the new UI either. It's more like a custom launcher than a standard one for daily use.
IMO I think the new Material Design looks pretty cool. Features like lock screen notifications are also long overdue
I've been following the porting of Android L in the nexus 4 and almost ready, but missing some details, I wonder if there will be some developer who carries the Optimus G, after completion of porting this

Community development strength

You're a power user. Can the Samsung Galaxy S7 keep up? Rate this thread to express how "healthy" the development scene is for the Samsung Galaxy S7. A higher rating indicates available root methods, kernels, and custom ROMs.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Since it has been 3 days only from official launch, we should wait for the scene to begin it's journey.
I'm pretty sure that it will have same support as S6, and Edge variants.
BUT, there is always a "but", international one has been finally shipped with Exynos Social.
Has to be seen if it has community support (I wish it would!)

Too early.... even i purchased it first day is available....
Keep it stock for a while.... then if someone not beats me try to port edge panel from bigger brother...
People still waiting for more reviews, but in my opinion is far more then excellent compared to my S5(even no removable battery.... let's see how performs but as for now seems lot better than S5)
Digging here and there, seems we have a lot of hidden features to try to enable, so our devs will have lot to do.... then add what sammy removed here(lockscreen effects, waether, pedometer asf...)
Give it few weeks, work will start, know a dev will upgrade.... a great dev hahahaha
great dev
A really great dev is needed in order to exploit this one... I only hope it doesn't take to long because I can't live without root.

When we have this..... mods will come for sure..... roms even.....
My project is port edge panel....let's keep stock my S7 for a while(ahahahah i never thought i can live so long with a stock rom lol)
See you soon
..and S7 is not a s**t

hey mate,
installed today TWRP, no root as i push and pull via adb
Unluckily with odexed rom not a lot of mods can be done... no luck with edge panel, as jar cannot be touched....
Port can be done easily, (all frameworks and jars are the same, so with odexed we will have edge panel and a lot of hidden features )
I plan(with my friend Tamirda, i'm not a dev) to build a stock deodexed rom for now.... a good base to start with

have you tried to rename arm64 to arm to see if goes ok?
i will lok at it when home from work
I hope development strength will be stronger than my previous phone (lg gflex 2) lol.
I live in Greece so i got the exynos version. Bootloader is unlocked but i personally will wait until a good rom comes out in order to trigger knox.
until now phone is super fast , no lag all are ok i dont miss root that much.

Sorry for the late reply, I'm using lordroid's deodexer. And I've fixed my problem, now everything is deodexed, will flash it today and see if it will boot. If it does, I'll try to mod it little by little (will start at 3minit)
EDIT: Okay so the deodexed system just booted; will try to mod later, I'm still at work haha
EDIT2: Game tools seems to crash (at least on my deodexed system). Let's see if game tools will work with yours. (Anyway, it's just bloat and will probably be included to my debloat list)
EDIT3: Seems like you're right, no apktools available seems to work (yet). This is a bummer.
No Root, No Recovery, bootloader locked, etc.
I prefer AOSP/LineageOS roms. There are currently some bugs in BT calling and ambient display, but overall it's good.
How is the development for this phone these days? Looking to a new phone (current is an ailing z2). Looking at S7, OnePlus 3t, and the LG G6.

I'd like to sell OP3t and buy something smaller like S7, but I hate TouchWizz. Are there good aosp roms for s7 enough for daily driver and with good camera and battery? I love stock feelng of OP3t, but s7 with clean android would be awesome. What should I do?
Any other good smartphone with 5" screen and great dev support?

I've asked Huawei support and they aren't really giving anything away. They won't even say if they have plans to release it, yet alone when it might happen. Android 7 will be out soon and we have a current model device that doesn't even have 6. Very disappointing

Yep, I'm done with my Mediapad. Went back to my Nexus 9. Even though it has RAM issues, I'd rather deal with that than put up with that horrible and buggy EMUI. Never buying Huawei again.
Okay, you don't like EMUI. But why you don't use nova launcher or any other? It works pretty nice on the M2.

I use Nova Launcher and the Pure Icons theme to remove some of EMUI but it is impossible to get rid of it all with this ROM.
Atleast the kernel sources got released.. imagine CM13 on our hardware wise great tablets. Now to find developers :'(
But man did Huawei wait WAY to long with any updates or even news. What a disappointment..great hardware, the most crap EMUI 3.1 ever.
So many just got rid of the tablet...bad move Huawei

Don't know if it's never gonna come or devs just haven't had the time to work on it. I read on their blog that the primary dev was having his child born and coudn't work on it. Also if I'm not mistaken the only phones with Android 10 out of the box as of right now are the Pixel 4 series and the Oneplus 7T series so not a lot to work on. Wait until Xiaomi, Samsung and more brands release Android 10 by default and I think development of TWRP on this new kind of partition system is gonna get more attention. That is why I'm hopeful that development for this phone can get more attention "soon-ish".
I like it alot wish there was more development tho
If google would just make something this quality i would buy one of their phones already. I was dissapointed in the looks of the pixel 4. They cheaped out on their components to maximize profits and its obvious. I have been mostly happy with the oneplus 7t but it has had some serious quirks too. I have had to reset mine several times and I am dealing with gps issues constantly.
I mostly love my OnePlus 7t. Though it has some issues. That need addressed. Also the lack of customization options is irritating coming from a custom ROM standpoint.
Love my 7T
Can't wait for TWRP to de-google this phone, but outside of that I totally love it. Although, to be fair this is my very first 'smart' phone so I really have nothing to compare it to. I think it's pretty damn great, actually.
Love the phone? hate the lack of development for it ?
I like it but will definitely hold off on next purchase to make sure development is more active. Luckily oxygen os is pretty decent, but still leaves a lot to be desired.
Can you guys tell me, what exactly you lack of for customization features? No offense, just out of curiosity.
I am flashing all of the devices in my household since the HTC desire days, like for the past 5..6..7 years or so... Constantly looking for the optimal ROM for me or my fiance's use case, tinkering with custom kernels, governer settings, blocking wakelocks... Whatsoever.
This is the first device I am happy with while it is just unlocked and rooted witch only a 1 magisk module active. For me android and OSS has come such a long way that all I build in aftermarket is now integrated in stock. Now it is just rooted, debloated and adfree. That's it for me. Although I somehow miss the long nights of flashing and trying out multiple stuff one after another, but also life gets more serious and time consumable so it's ok for me. I guess same for most of the gurus from the old days.. lol
I now can do my hobby more or less for a living, so no need to do it in my free time anymore...
What do you guys think? Is it just my feeling that the development branch somehow radically changed?

I agree. Since I left HTC (the M9 being he last one) I have not had the need to flash a custom ROM. Was on a Nokia 8 previously and the vanilla-ish android was good. I only missed the weather clock and mail app from HTC - but they are going down sadly so had to jump ship. Left Nokia as they launched too many phones and were not fixing bugs on their ex-flagships - promised to fixed their camera app but never came for example.
With the 7T I have to say I hardly have any complaint. Customisations are great and the phone is amazing. Adjusting the bokeh blur (live bokeh) would have been great even if it was after taking the photo but nothing else to complain about to be fair.
I do miss the old late nights flashing ROMS though - but like you say, life is different now. I haven't even rooted the Nokia and 7T! haha

Same for me! Running latest stable OSS (10.0.12) with xXx Rom/Module and thats it. Happy as I've been with any of my other OnePlus phones

May I ask what version of xXx Rom/Module you are using for our OnePlus 7T?

I thought there was gonna be a "but" on the text lol. I do love it too, I came to this phone from a Pocophone and the only thing i miss is the custom ROMs development on the Oneplus 7T.

Hi, I also came from Poco F1. Amazing phone. Took me a while to get use to OP7T even thought it is better in many ways. I bought it new for 300 pounds and then after a year on October 2019 I found a deal like hell and bought a new OP7T for 360 pounds. Amoled display was the biggest advantage I noticed for the first time. Later I could not even look on the Poco F1 display and before I was astonished by the quality of the LCD panel. I got so much used to the face unlock on F1 cause it was so freaking fast and precise even at complete dark. That and the fast fingerprint scanner is another think I missed for a while. But eventually I get used to the in-display one (but they still could add one more on the back cause it is the perfect place for it). Also that I was so used to the MIUI, the environment was kind of weird for me. But with little bit of tweaking and setting up Nova launcher, which I have been using already for like 8 years anyway, helped a lot. And I even found some tweaks I could not do in MIUI. But like you mentioned, there were so much variety of ROMs and hell I like rooting, flashing and stuff like this. There is also one function I found only in MIUI and which helped me a lot when I came lazy like hell from night shift home and that is that you could mirror your screen to smart TV, lets say play a sitcom or whatever, and minimize it on the device itself so I could be on FB, YT, even play a games and not disturb media streaming to my TV. I wish Oneplus add this feature in future.
