Different Launchers - MTCB Android Head Units Q&A

Hey, where can i get JY Launcher, as separate app? I currently have KLD and i wont reinstall firmware to change the Launcher.

A Launcher Collection would be nice. I'm interested in the JY Launcher, too.
In general I like the Smart Launcher and the Total Launcher.

I sincerely recommend Nova launcher. Fast boot (same as JY, at least on my unit), way more customisible than JY, all in all, much better deal...

Tried both, "pro" versions... same functionality, but I found Nova boots some 5-10 seconds faster than Apex.

Hey Folks. The absolute best Launcher at the Moment is for me the Automate Launcher. Its really new. in Playstore since 12-28-15. It easy, beautiful and safe to use in Car. I really like it a lot, you should give it a shot.

i did try this app (free) and not the launcher (3,5 euro) but i dont know if it makes any difference. The voice commands are not working properly on my device (also without this app), the navigation didn't work well either, when i enter the name of my village i can't navigate to it, there no option to select the city you enter in the searchfield (and the voice command does not work like i mentioned).
The only thin what was working was spotify. But i i think this is the best app / launcher to use in the future. It looks good, and when the voice search is working right this is the app you want.
Witch device are you using and what is working properly and what not in your automate app?

AutoMate has great potential. It has been written with phones/tablets in mind rather than MTCB HU's and so a number of things don't work for my Joying unit (eg. calls, SWC), but the maps and music player UI's are superb while driving. One to buy/watch and keep encouraging the developer to add support for MTCB.

i have a JY Rk3188 1024x600 Head Unit with a 3G USB Stick
working for me:
-swc in Background
- search an Address and it starts nokia here and has automaticly the Adress, you only have to choose car (instead of walking or Transit)
- the map thats just shows the area when you are driving
- spotify
- gmail with adresses
- events
- voice commands (i choose google in the settings), like how is the weather etc...
Other Functions i have to check.
its far the best launcher for me. Its much safer while driving.

Fully agree. The developer is very responsive and has confirmed he is working on launcher functionality. I have bought the premium version to help with development and hopefully see it evolve beyond an Android Auto clone.

+1 to nova explorer

I've had Nova running on mine for a while but swapped back to stock to see if there were any performance differences. From my non-scientific evaluation, uninstalling Nova and leaving the stock launcher seemed to make the head unit faster in general - especially when switching between apps. My thoughts are that the small amount of RAM these head units have causes keeping two launchers loaded takes its toll. This is assuming that the stock launcher is always running, which I think it is. What do you guys think?

I fixed the voice search problem by installing the velvet.apk mentioned in the "oke google" topic. Navigation is also working oke now!
Hope there is a solution for the calling issue. I'm going to try tablet talk that should be a solution

Does anyone else just use CarHomeUltra? I have it setup to launch at startup and take over the home button (soft not hard button on front of unit) and it integrates well with google music (which I use), I can display all the relevant info for driving and it has awesome shortcut functionality for anything you can think of. I even a have shortcut button to open my garage door which is done through a raspberry pi garage door opener which communicates with my veralite home automation server. This is important because I find that the wifi from my car interferes with the normal garage door opener button but this setup does its magic over the internet which controls a physical switch.
Anyways, I have tried a number different launchers so far, I cannot stand the stock ones that come with these head units, I prefer the customization of CarHomeUltra and how it simply displays the stuff that you would want to see while driving.

Now that's a connected system!!!! Nicely done.. Grab some screen shots and upload them if you.. Be interested to see your layout

I don't have that setup, so I honestly couldn't tell you.
I use automagic (like tasker) to startup my phone's wifi hotspot as soon as bluetooth connects to the stereo, then I set it up so that google music starts up automatically. The only annoying thing right now is that seems to take well over a minute (maybe 2) to actually start playing music. I LOVE using CarHome Ultra as my main screen though and that fires up automatically as well. That app offers a huge amount of tweaking and functionality geared toward driving (no affiliation, it just seems to be the only thing that works 'just right' for me).

Better keyboard

Idle if many of you use better keyboard but I find it to be the best by far. Its no longer on Google app market but its on Amazon app market. I recently had a problem with FC on the app and they told me how to fix it and gave me a $10 promo to be used on anything! That's more than the app its self cost! They also replied to my e-mail I sent them regaurding the problem both times within the hour! Haven't had better customer service in my life. Props to the team there and I highly suggest this keyboard to anyone. All the skins can still be found on the Google app market if your search "better keyboard skins" here's the link to the app on Amazon AP store http://amzn.to/pn51As

Honestly, I couldn't tell you. I used Better Keyboard for a while back when I had my EVO, tried Smart Keyboard Pro and just never went back. It's fast, accurate, was one of the first multitouch keyboards, and has a decent level of customization.

one of the biggest things I like about it is the autotext feature. You can add shortcuts and have the kb replace it with other text. for example I have it so every time I type "U" it replaces it with You, another one "R U" to Are you, I even have it set up to insert email addresses egamil inserts my gmail address eyahoo my yahoo, etc. I also have a nice skin for it that looks like the neon swift key kb.
another great kb is the thumb keyboard. NO keyboard has the level of customizations that one has
I just downloaded and installed Thumbs Keyboard......freakin awesome! Best KB yet (for me) and I can type even faster with it than swype. I'm a better two handed type'r than one and this works great, especially since screen is so big and I have a hard time with single hand typing
Sent from my SSGSIIE4GTuvwxyz!.....Should I touch my nose or walk a straight line now?
I found that Smart Keyboard Pro lags like crazy on E4GT, at least in comparison to my old EVO 4G where it was literally butter smooth. This is on top of the brilliant minds at samsung taking out the ability to edit the user dictionary. It took me ages to find a simple app called UDM (user dictionary manager) to clear out the misspelled words.
After trying a myraid of keyboard on the E4GT, thumb keyboard wins hands down for me. I bought it and tried it multiple times and never liked it, decided to give it one more go and I love it. Smooth as silk, the autopredict has a good balance of predicting mistakes and not trying to correct url's and whatnot. The ginormous screen also works really well with some of the extended layouts, giving me extra keys that I absolutley hate going to the symbols keyboard for....Not to mention what has turned into my favorite feature, on the landscape keyboard, one spacebar chooses the autopredict while the other one will just leave what you typed alone, took some getting used to but I dont think I could live without it now...
Gingerbread keyboard comes in at a close second.
At least for me, the number one feature and dealbreaker (if not present) is responsiveness. I dont care if a keyboard cooks me lunch every day and does my laundry for me, if its not responsive then I wont use it. Gingerbread keyboard and Thumb keyboard beat out all the others in this field. I really wish Smart Keyboard pro had the same snappyness it did on my old EVO 4G, I could hammer out essays with that one.....

Best by far for me. It gets predictions correct WAY more than the others mentioned here... And I've tried them all.
The only thing I don't like is the lack of themes in the app. I've been meaning to search around and see if there were more out there somewhere but keep forgetting to do it.

I thought GO keyboard does have multitouch? I just downloaded swiftkey x and it I like almost everything about it better, but its multitouch sometimes seems to mess up. For instance when I'm typing t then h, I do it very quick with both thumbs, and they are probably both on the keyboard at the same time. If I do it and test it I can see swiftkey highlight the t, then the h, but it always just types h. Is there a way to fix this? I'd like to try better keyboard but I'm not seeing a trial for it.

I've been testing a LOT of keyboards, and for me, the BEST keyboard would actually combine some of the features of a handful of my favorites.
SwiftKey is one of those favorites, for one reason - text prediction. Now DON'T get this confused with text prediction that most keyboards have, where they take an educated guess at what you are trying to type and suggest the complete word.
SwiftKey, in contrast, predicts the NEXT word you are going to type, BEFORE you've even started typing it - and it does it quite well. What?! The NEXT word?! That's insane you say...
It is pretty insane - but it works; it uses the context of what you're typing (e.g., the words typed previously) as well as your 'historical style' to predict the next words. As soon as you type the first letter of the actual next word, it then throws another set of predictions, just in case it was off. The result: fat-thumbed people like me end up typing less, because I'm using their suggestions plus 1 letter (to start a word) and getting whole sentences out.
There's a one-month fully functional trial version of it, so I highly suggest you check it out.
The ONLY other keyboard I've tried thus far that predicts the NEXT word is "A.I. Type Keyboard"; (the AI is for Artificial Intelligence). They only have a ten day trial, and the keyboard requires network access to 'get' some of it's suggestions. I haven't found this to create a lag, and it implies that their A.I. is better (since it's polling a machine somewhere), but I haven't found that to be the case yet, and with only a ten day trial, I'm not sure I'll have enough time to find out.
So then why isn't SwiftKey the ONLY keyboard for me?
Coming from a Blackberry, I am a BIG fan of one-handed 'hold-and-type' and Compact QWERTY is essentially the methadone for recovering Blackberry users. Unfortunately SwiftKey does not currently support it. In fact, one of the limitations of SwiftKey is that there are only 3 skins, and they are all the same (save for color). So in terms of customization, SwiftKey is a bit of a dog compared to others. That's why you'll find so many people who use it for some purposes (e.g., writing a long email), and then switch to another keyboard for other tasks.
Others (with my brief opinion);
note that I tend to avoid swype and favor Compact QWERTY; but Compact QWERTY can get a little tedious when not typing conversationally (i.e., filling in prompts) so a quick switch to full QWERTY is critical.
GO Keyboard - absolutely nothing special that others don't have. Can be made pretty, with lots of custom skins, but I don't care how pretty my keyboard is (that said, I love a lot of the other GO products)
Ultra Keyboard - This is my most-used keyboard, because it has Compact QWERTY and I can do a quick swipe to get to full QWERTY; it's got a ton of customizations as well; one of the many, includes a toggle for 'multi-touch' which is great. Unfortunately it was crashing on me recently so I stopped using it (new version just released, so hoping issues fixed) and began using:
Smart Keyboard Pro - Very similar to Ultra Keyboard (Compact QWERTY, swipe to switch, etc)., not nearly as many customizations, but close enough to get me through most situations
Thumb Keyboard - I like it, as others have stated above, since you have more 'real estate' to type with. But being an ex-Blackberry user, I really WANT and NEED to type with one hand - the same hand I'm holding the device in, and so the innovative 'separated keyboard' doesn't help because you really need two hands to use it properly.
ThickButtons - This is a WEIRD keyboard, but (like Swype I guess), if you can get used to it, it's pretty powerful, and I found myself typing surprisingly fast after a short period of time. Basically, as you type, the keyboard, on the fly, makes larger the next 'probable' keys, while making smaller, the 'less probable' keys for the given word you're typing. Seems weird, and frankly, if you look at the keyboard too much while typing, you'll confuse yourself. But if you just 'go with the flow,' you'll find that the next letter you're looking for is right there, inflated like a balloon, ready for you to hit it.
I've tried a few others, but not worth mentioning here because there wasn't anything 'unique' as most of the ones above have, to differentiate.
So I guess the ultimate keyboard for me would be one that includes all of Ultra Keyboard's capabilities and customization alternatives combined with SwiftKey's prediction model.
Hope my wasted time and obsessiveness is helpful!
put my vote down for swiftkey. i also like the gingerbread AOSP keyboard.
im glad that you shared your wonderful customer experience with us all. i mostly get to read horror stories. i now feel a little bit better about my pre-order kindle fire.

Questions for Fire phone users

Hello,
I'm thinking of purchasing a Fire phone and have a few questions.
1. What's it like having no back & recent apps button?
2. Have you managed to install any launcher that makes it look like what Android normally looks like with working widgets and kitkat/lollipop notification bar?
3. Anyone tried Nova Launcher?
4. I read you can sideload google play without root, does that work properly?
I currently have a Moto G, I like it but at times I wish it was more responsive.
I don't take many pics but when I do I often wish they were a little clearer.
I'm looking for a phone that isn't too expensive and isn't too big (most phones seem to be getting huge).
Thanks
I wouldn't. For the price, any phone with android would be better.
Find one that you can unlock the bootloader and your in business.
IMHO.
I am happy with it and the specs are great... not any android is better. Just need to get used to ir... back button is not necesary as you swipe from the bottom of the screen up and the job is done. And the price is really good... i paid 99 pounds...

Have you tried any launchers to make it look more like normal Android?
It's a good looking, very fast smartphone that is hamstrung by the OS. Amazon will not unlock the bootloader and let folks root it. If these things don't bother you, and you're willing to try something new, then for $99 it is an incredible deal. Although the same great specs in a true android phone would be better at this price, such a thing doesn't exist: the specs to price ratio is tremendous.
Finally, although I use it as a second phone, I have grown to like some of the apps I'm stuck with. For example, I like the phone's email app as much as the gmail app. The feature's on the phone's email app work better for me across various email accounts.

I have had the unrooted unlocked 3.6.8 version for a few months now. I had no issues side loading any of the Google products to the phone. I did have install older android 4.2 versions of the 4 files and that worked on the AT&T version. Google Maps have the double texted which is annoying but i have been using either the chrome version or Here app for navigation. Weird thing i could be wrong but my Zillow app has a map feature that does not have that issue. Not sure if it using GMaps but I thought it did. Someone smarter than me might want to see what the Zillow app does differently. My home screen is the Google Launcher with Zooper Widgets. IT runs and fells like a normal android device. Not having a back but does cause issues with some apps that have their own back button. If you press the home button once it takes you to the main screen you set in the launcher just like normal Android devices. If you double tap the home button it opens the FireOS recent app/app killer menu which I like MUCH better then the Lolliop way. The camera is great it takes wonderfulphotos much better then my Nexus 4.

1. Actually, you can wipe from bottom to up to perform a BACK operation.
2. I tried google now launcher. No widget and no wallpaper.

4. Google play actually works for most of the apps. I'm trying to figure out how to back up photo to google photos, as google+ can't be installed.
I think fire phone has a great camera. And if you're a heavy amazon prime user , I mean things like instant video and prime music, maybe getting one is pretty good.

I dont regret getting it. My prime was up soon so at a hundred bucks i say its an awesome phone. I did use google now launcher for a couple weeks but then decided to give the amazon launcher a try and i'm still using it two months later. The swipe up to go back isnt perfect but you do get used to it. I have a pretty thick case on my phone so the only time i have a hard time is in landscape cuz my finger hits the case. For notifications I use heads-up and it works really well. You really just need it for for apps you load through google play. If you use facebook messenger you can use the bubble thing. I dont use it but i have. You just have to mess with the messenger app settings. As far as sideloading... what do you want to sideload? I gave the link of google plus that works so that fixes that... hangouts notifications is fixed by heads up cuz the regular notifications disappear in one sec. Maps doesnt work cuz of the text but nokia here works really well and i've come to really enjoy it and dont miss maps at all. Other than that everything I loaded through google play works very well... clash of clans, pebble watch app. youtube, drive, google play music, keep, gmail. The only app I havent had the opportunity to use is wallet but i did install it and it loads fine. Just not sure if the nfc side of it works. If anybody has info on that it would be appreciated.

Oh and the firefly app is awesome plus the amazon prime music app has gotten really really good. Maybe theres room for improvement but I love it now. You dont have to add each song to your library to listen. You can just search and play and there's a lot of music included and new stuff is added all the time.
Which widgets are you referring to that don't work with the Google launcher? My Zooper, Hangouts, CNN, and Google Music widgets work for me.

Mostly working phone mirroring through MirrorLink

This has not really been tested much, so I'm posting here so people can try it out with different vehicles, to see the extent to which this works.
Make sure you have a MirrorLink enabled phone & car
Download LG MirrorDrive from the PlayStore
Open LG MirrorDrive from the cars head unit (sometimes it takes several tries before it tries to open)
Note: Because this relies on the LG MirrorDrive being incompatible with the phone, this probably won't work with LG phones.
What this does:
Because the application is meant to work with only LG phones, when you attempt to open it with a non-LG phone, it will automatically close and give you a toast message saying "LG MirrorDrive only works with LG phones that support MirrorLink." This brings you to the last screen you had open on your phone before you connected it to your car, and you now have the phone fully mirrored on to the screen, with touch control.
This means you can use Google Maps, Waze, or whatever your favorite maps app is, without having to pay $80+ for a MirrorLink GPS navigation app.
The reason I say it's mostly working, is because once your phone is mirrored, when you open any app it kicks you out of the mirrored screen, and you have to go back and click on LG MirrorDrive again to re-enable mirroring. Which is a minor inconvenience compared to having google maps working IMHO.
I personally have a 2015 Honda Civic Si and a Galaxy Note5 (not rooted), but others have confirmed it working with other Honda cars with similar head units, and other Samsung phones.
Because of how this works, I'm assuming it works with any head unit that has MirrorLink and any phone that is not an LG and has MirrorLink 1.1
Some pics of it working on my head unit:

I'm also using Nova Launcher, which allows the home screen to rotate into landscape.
Don't forget to post your results if you try it out, whether it works or it doesn't.

Yes, I have the same solution for Volkswagen App-Connect, Seat Full Link and Skoda SmartLink
Optional you can disable the message
Thanks Buddy! Works with my S7 Edge and 2015 Honda Civic.
Now just wondering what would be the best app to open using this technique in order to keep it from crashing. I tried Android Auto, which allows you to play music while using navigation apps.
I gave this a try. As you said it kinda works, but i had to relaunch the LG app on the HU each time i changed apps on my phone and the LG app launched on the HU about one out of every three tries. I messed with it for a couple days, but decided the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. Cool find though.

doesn't work when you start moving the car
That is correct. HTC and Sony phones doesn't work when you start moving the car. VAG cars need (only for Sony and HTC) a VIM activation. Watch this YT Video https://goo.gl/gvgF5X.
But this is for Samsung. It works while driving (Honda, Suzuki, Peugeot, Toyota, Volkswagen ...) . How to YT video https://goo.gl/Xc3fTP
Just my 5 cents:
I think crash behavior is changing with different keyboards. I assume the apps crash because of the keyboard... Maybe it is necessary to find a good keyboard.

Thanks @dyadya n1! I also had to uninstall the mirror-link update on my Galaxy S7 for this to work.
For others, here is how you uninstall the mirror-link update:
Goto Settings->Apps-> Select "Show System Apps" from the menu at the top -> Select Samsung Mirrorlink 1.1 -> Select the the "Uninstall Updates" option from the menu at the top.
I have an S8plus and it won't work
No MirrorLink system app.
I have a "Car Mode Stub" v 1.1.26. Is that it? It's not downgradeable.
In fact, the one on my A3(2016), which works with LG MirrorDrive, is CarmodeStub 1.1.09
I think that, other than the Mirrorlink protocol, is the only place where the avaliable applications list can be changed.
For the same installed application set, the S8+ only shows "Car Mode" and the A3 (2016) shows "LG MirrorDrive" + "Seat AppDrive" + etc.. (the Mirrordrive apps I installed on both phones),.
I have an S8 and it does have Samsung Mirrorlink app, scrol down further and look for Samsung mirrorlink .
But i cannot downgrade it.
I can connect but cannot activate Lg mirrordrive, it appears but cannot be opened.
.I have no plan Sh....
We need an app for mirrorlink to make all apps working in the car.
I now use android auto but that allows no other navigation then Waze or Googlemaps.
I totally agree that I also trying to find full mirroring solution with my S8+ & skoda superb (2017).
ore the same hack of androidauto
So, I currently own a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge running 6.0.6.0.1 stock non root and a 2017 Peugeot 208 SMEG + IV2 mirrorlink capable unit.
I recently upgraded my phone to 7.0 and Mirrordrive stopped working. All I got was a black screen or a message telling me that app is not supported.
Finally I decided and rolled back to 6.01 and everything went back working again.
So, my question is: is this expected? Was LG Mirrordrive bug fixed on android 7?
thats very good possible.
For me it also did not work, s8 with anxroid 7.

Will this make the LG MirrorDrive app stop crashing? Will mirrorlink still work after I uninstall the updates?
Hi.
Just read your post and I wanted to thank you.
Thanks to the LG mirrordrive I am able to stream the screen of my galaxy s6 g920f to my Skoda Octavia 3 with Columbus 2 system.
Connected my Note8 to my Seat Leon.
For seconds all 3 mirrorlink apps showed up as the available mirrorlink apps.
Then they all disappeared after a few secodns and the only available app was Carmode (I guess the stub).
Never again the the other apps (LG Mirrordrive, SEAT App, RockScout) showed up. Now they only "live" inside the CarMode app. Of course, the LG MirrorDrive trick does not work from within the CarMode app.
Seems Android 7.0 and above do some filtering allowing only CarModeStub or Carmode.
And the stub (probably doing the filtering) only allows CarMode to run ("Install carmode shows up on the dashboard").
My Samsung A3 with android 6 works perfectly with LG Mirrordrive crashing into to the screen and allowing other apps to run piggybacking oh the screen mirroring.
As soon as it upgraded to android 7 it stopped working, showing the same behaviour as the Note8.
Reverting to android 6 it went back to "normal".
Very very annoying. Why can't all applications be run for the passenger enjoyment?
I'm on my Galaxy S6 7.0 and found a way to make it work. With messing around, after finding these topics about LG MirrorDrive and not working... I still tried. And I got it to work once and never again after... Till today.
Was messing around again and it worked and now I recalled what I just did and tried it again, but didn't work. So I kept trying, different tests and suddenly worked again, and restarte again and now I can get it to work after about a minute or so. It seems to be timing sensitive, but in short it goes like this:
Connect phone, start RockScout, press backbutton in screen, Start LG app, (it will say Lauching app or so, doing this out of my head) while it says that, backout quick, Click on the icon for running appsand Close RockScout, quickly go back and press 1:1 button? If lucky you will see "this app cannot be started now" (or something like that) press back again, press 1:1 again and there was my phone!
It is tricky, but Im getting better at it
If someone wants a video if they don't succeed and want proof to keep you going, I'll see I can make one .

Two must have sideloaded apps for all S4 owners

I just found two really good apps from Samsung that can be sideloaded to increase functionality and efficiniy of the Tab S4.
One is called Multistar, that makes both apps in a multiview setup active at the same time. Normally the inactive app is frozen and does not recieve new info untill its activated again. So you wont see incomming text chats in the inactive app. Same goes in DEX enviroment. With Multistar the apps will behave like in a windows enviroment, staying activte. They also included a floating notifiction bubble that can be set up to open the pointed app into a floating app mode. Really handy!
Secondly, is the Task Changer apk, this changes the layout of the recents view. Also adds more functions to setup multiview. Design wise it looks really nice, I think Iphones have the same layout? Anyways check em out in the links provided from APKmirror.com.

love that Samsung does this. has anyone tried these on their tablet yet? any impact on performance?
These are all available in the Galaxy App store in the Goodlock app and include a bunch more features such as a new lockscreen and notification tray themes.

Im using them both on my tablet. I also have the new Task Changer view on my S9 phone, but sadly cant use MultiStar on the phone yet. Android 8.1 requirement.
Anyways, no impact on battery what I have noticed.
As someone mentioned, this is a part of Samsung Good Lock, but Europeans dont get to install Good Lock from Galaxy Store yet. Only Asia and America has support for it.
cool. didn't even know what Good Lock was!
https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-good-lock-2018-878036/
Made my night. The app pausing was one of the more annoying issues with multi window. Now my game is active and running in background as I type this. Like the task switcher too.
okay, this is a pretty amazing suite of apps. the multi-window is pretty much the best feature of DEX ... but without DEX running!
very cool. just opened a video in Netflix, plus Gmail (composing opens up another window, smart!), the Google app, Google Keep and a settings app ... piece of cake

1. open your apps.
2. in your Recents / Task Changer, drag an app into the center box (you'll see where, there's an outline), and then BOOM, that app is windowed -- and resizable!
3. go back into Recents / Task Changer, repeat for your other apps.
i haven't done it for more than five at a time, but i'm curious how many windows could be opened.
it's crazy why Samsung doesn't make a big deal about features like this and the notification customizations! SO MUCH potential here. this is not in DEX, it's not in a "desktop mode" like Huawei. and of course iOS can't.
this is genius stuff. i used to hate TouchWiz, but i'm digging Samsung Experience.
HEADS UP: LockStar doesn't work well the Tab S4. tried it, uinstalled it.
On my tab s4 it worked for one day. After that i reinstalled multistar and task changer. But the apps doesn't seem to work anymore please help. I have tried a reboot and reinstall them both. Even tried to install Goodlock 2018, but that didn't help either. I've got it working again with nova.
These are both great, thanks for sharing
There's no need to sideload, they're both avialable in the Galaxy Apps Store
And if you also install 'Good Lock 2018' (also avialable in the Galaxy App Store) it lets you customise the settings for 'MultiStar' and 'Task Changer'
Edit: Samsung should have just built these features into the rom

True, but GoodLock is not visible outside Korea and USA at the moment. So Europeans can not install it the proper way yet =)
Another thing I did, was sideload the app QuickStar. That way I could change the color of the quicksettings.

Oh wow, that's strange that they would restrict them. maybe there's some kind of licence/patent issue in some countries.
They're avialable here in Australia =)
Otherwise you can find them on APKMirror or similar
(technically, sideloading is different to installing apps outside of Google Play/Galaxy Apps, and usually requires a PC)

Usually when I see these posts I think, "What a buncha crap!", but dammit these should be on everyone's to install list. Thanks for the heads up on these.

It depends on the nation, here in Italy it's not visible on Samsung app store and goodlook doesn't work (I'm using badlook from xda)
Anyway task changer have been updated for pie but work also with oreo and have new type of multitasking, one similar of the official that we'll have with pie on tablets (I'm using it: 2 column/lines of app)

Hey all
Figured I'd post here. Is there any app out there that allows the ability to turn off finger print touching when in a certain app
My issue is in one note I use my pen and at times it detects my palm first and zooms in. I want to stop that's. I still want to use my fingers to move along the page but maybe with 2 fingers?
Hope this makes sense

Question Nova Launcher Lag

Anyone else using Nova Launcher (7) and have lag when opening the fold to full screen? I have turned off all animations, but that just causes it to be blank during the home screen draw lag.
I've tried switching to OneUI, BUT I can't get myself to give up all the customization of Nova and go with stock However, the waiting for Nova to draw the home screen when opening the fold is a pain.
Thanks
I have noticed it as well
I have a not noticed a lag.
Do you see it everytime you open?
Edit : I am wrong..I do notice the lag

Yep, +1. Annoying but it's actually not limited to Nova. I just did a quick test with Lawnchair and it does the same thing. It seems like it relaunches the Home Launcher when the display is opened.
I have Nova and notice zero lag. I hope you figure it out.
Try clearing system cache as well as nova cache. That fixed it for me
Thanks for the idea. Didn't help me though.
Sometimes it's like Nova doesn't even try and I actually get the Samsung launcher until I manually hit the home bottom then Nova pops up.
Is there a way to freeze the default samsung launcher?
Having sometimes lag when swiping up from the bottom (i'm using gestures) to get out of apps. It often does some kind of "blink" lag.
When i googled Nova and z fold compatibility, i found disheartening results... as the developer said foldables are gimmicks for now and he's clearly not going to support foldables soon...
you can see both threads here :
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyFold/comments/iryjax
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyFold/comments/hl6v8o
i removed Nova launcher for the FOld3. had it more like 10 years. Oh well. Also NOva can't custom front screen and inside screen. have to be the same (didn't like it)
Just wanted to chime in that after investigations the blink lag happens for me when I swipe up out of apps to return to home and try to launch another app too quickly afterwards. After swipping up, I need to wait 1s before launching another app otherwise screen will blink.
Nova fcking itself by not supporting the foldables. They were ahead of the times years ago, now just f'n everyone that stood behind them so many years.

I got rid 1s have to wait before after hitting home then launching the next app by turning off animations. This doesnt help with the opening delay, but it does take care of the false redraw home screen that appears for 1 sec delaying the ability to launch the next program (fixed at least for me). Only issue for me now is a blank screen for 1-2 second when I open/unfold the device on the home screen.
Are you all on Nova 7? Nova 6 is working perfectly for me.
I'm getting this same hang/lag with my pixel 5a on nova 7...
Tried reverting back to 6 and it's still doing it. Maybe I didn't notice before but I swear there is a hang after leaving an app that I have to wait in order to do anything further like open the drawer or use a gesture.
Follows is the response I got today from the Nova Developer. Too bad. I told him about this thread and the lag issues in counter response...
The usage of foldable devices is still very miniscule compared to that of "normal" devices so it really isn't worth the development time or effort for us to try and make Nova fully compatible with the dual screens of foldable devices or dual screen devices.
There are so many things that have to be done for dual screen layouts such as thinking about how icons behave and look on both screens, how do widgets look and behave and so much more.
Currently, even after being around for a couple of years now, we feel it's just not worth it to spend the endless amounts of time that is needed to work on these devices, knowing that things will change repeatedly over the coming months or next couple of years.
Due to the costs involved in making these devices, the pricing isn't likely to drop significantly enough over the next couple of years to make these devices mainstream, which in turn means we simply won't be able to support them fully at this time or in the near future.
Nova will work. The only issue you'll have is you won't be able to have a separate layout for the front screen and the rear screen. Layouts will use the same layout, and might look slightly different due to screen resolution and DPI between the two screens.

Honestly the layout doesn't bother me that much, what is annoying is the lag. I didn't have problem on my Mate 20 X but someone above mentioned having the same problem with a Pixel.
Not sure if the lag is because of the fold/samsung oneUI or unrelated.
I've just gotten Nova working independently on both screens, but it took quite a lot of hacking to accomplish - Had to clone the app to get a second copy that could then be configured independently, and a tasker/bixby routines/autotools combination to detect and switch the launcher depending if the phone is folded or not.
Only complaint apart from the occasional slow switch to the other launcher is that the clone version of the app can't be validated for my pro purchase, so I've just got the front in free mode, with the inner screen running the pro version
