[Tip] Make the fingerprint scanner work better - Elephone P8000

Hello I would like to share something I found out about the fingerprint scanner, that worked for me and hopefully for you as well.
When I received my Elephone P8000 I was disappointed that the fingerprint scanner didn't work as well as I hoped (about 50% success rate).
First I thought it was the Phone, but actually it was my own fault. and now it works 99% of the time
The wrong way: when adding a new fingerprint, I placed my finger at the exact same spot every time while configuring.
The good way: hold the phone like you normally would when unlocking the phone, and place your finger at slightly different places on the scanner when configuring (do not center your finger at the exact same spot).
I hope this helps.

That's the way I've done it since I bought the phone and my success rate when using the fingerprint scanner must be around 90% (no kidding).

Same here. Actually, I think my success rate on the fingerprint scanner is higher than 90%.

I'm getting good results from this

Depends on fingers skin too. Scanner dosn't recognise fingers a lot when having dry skin(washed hands a lot in a day) and had normal skin when entering prints.

Thanks for sharing, i getting 90% success rate with this method.

Heart Rate Sensor

The heart rate sensor on my phone seems to work only when it wants to. I used it 2 days ago and now no matter where I place my fiber tip over the sensor it does not light up or detect my finger....?
Anybody else have this issue? I think I'm going to ask At&t for a brand new replacement. Cause I've only had the phone for about 3 weeks and it does this all the time.
It'll probably work just fine when you take it in to have it looked out. That's how life works...
It's pretty much hit and miss with mine. For the most part S-Health sensors work just fine. I found if I just adjust my finger (if it starts complaining) that does the trick.
Don't push too hard against the sensor.
I exchanged my note 4 for different reasons, but my last model and this model are both having the same problem with the sensor...

Some questions regarding Iris Scanner

I don't know if this has been asked before.
But is it possible to just let the Iris Scanner scans our eyes right when the screen turns on? Like, I have the cover on, then I flip the cover open, screen turns on, and Iris Scanner will do its job. RATHER than having to swipe the screen once.
And is it possible to accept phone call using Iris Scanner?

The short answer is no but both would be welcome changes.

Not sure what you mean by that. Edge lighting is contact color specified.

Iris scanner and Laser eye surgery
Hi Everybody,
I am new to posting but not new to following many samsung note 3,4,5 forums.
I just bought a Note 7 N930FD in Vietnam, Gold color. I would maybe have chosen another color but i didn’t have the choice. The manager at Phone Shop told me Samsung was having issues with the Black color getting to hot.
Anyway to get to my issue. It’s the iris scanner. It doesn’t give a complete successful scan of my eyes. The most it reached was 90%. Although mostly it doesn’t reach that % often mostly it fails within a minute or so.
I am wondering if anyone else is having issues getting their eyes scanned. I went back to the shop and the manager scanned his eyes, right away it was a success. He did it a second time with the same result.
So i conclude it not a issue with the phone or software.
The only 2 factors that maybe causing failed scans for me, are i had laser eye surgery many years ago. I have no idea if that is effecting it or not. Maybe if there is someone reading this who also had laser eye surgery and they used the iris scanner with success, would you please let me know. The other possibility is my eyelids don’t open enough to have the scanner complete the scan.
Beside this issue the phone is working really well. No lag, smooth scrolling. The speaker isn’t as loud as would like in comparison to my Note 5. But my note 5 was rooted with Viper/ AryaMod_Premium_Sound_Control installed, which was excellent. I don’t intend to root the Note 7 until i use the phone for 3 or 4 months, then i’ll see what is available with custom roms.
Also a side note, i didn’t have issue with using a sim card and memory card in the draw. It ejects ok when i apply slight pressure with the pin tool. The other thing was that the spring in the spen works fine, i did read someone said that theirs got stuck in the phone. I find after i eject the pen, i push back in the spring loaded top end. Then when i put it back into place i don’t need to push the spring loaded top. Just slide it into place easily till it clicks….

- Note 7 black color gets too hot? Just an excuse. Never heard such thing. I'm using the black one myself. Wish I got the silver one but because pre-order stock ran out after 6 hours of the first day.
- Have you tried with other device to see if it get stuck on 90% also? I've never heard of that as well. Maybe eye surgery caused that. But try it on other device first to confirm.

I am living in a small city in Vietnam. Only one shop now have Note 7 and they had 2 gold models. All in sealed box they won't open, only if you buy it. Usually they have display models. There is no display model to try what you suggest. Maybe in the next week or so i'll give it a go when they are on display. although the scanner worked fine for the shop manager, so i don't think its my phone or software. Yes i can't say if the guy is spinning a story about the black color, but it might be the case for the ones coming out of the Vietnam samsung factory that are effected!
Finally scan worked
Well I reset the phone, after was able to scan my eyes after a few attempts. End of Story for now!

Pixel 2 fingerprint scanner problems

Has anyone else had problems with the fingerprint scanner on their phone?
I have registered the same finger multiple times and it can not recognize it even after cleaning. It ranges from saying the scanner is dirty, to saying my finger moved to fast, and sometimes ill place it on the scanner perfectly and it won't even detect my finger.
Never had a problem with any other phones fingerprint scanner before this.
Should I RMA?
I'd RMA. I haven't had this issue
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
I've had similar issues with my 6p sporadic. But when it happened it would happen for couple of hours. I would erase all fingers and redo and maybe restart. Usually worked.
I'm having a ***** of a time getting my bootloader unlocked. Done it 20 times in my life and this just isn't going

I'm having similar issues. Sometimes it works fine, but sometimes I get the too fast message, no acknowledgement, "not recognized" or "cannot process fingerprint." However, cleaning the fingerprint scanner almost always fixes the issue. This is my first fingerprint scanner-equipped phone, so I'm not really sure how well they usually work. I have to clean the sensor every 10 unlocks or so to get it working again. Is this typical or do I just have really oily fingers?

This is off topic, and there are a lot of threads out there about this, but the commands are different than they have been in the past.
1. Make sure you're using the latest version of fastboot
2. fastboot flashing unlock
3. fastboot flashing unlock_critical
Both commands are necessary.

Forgot to reboot my PC after assigning the platform-tools after I downloaded. I think I deleted the old ones and downloaded the new ones and they got moved around in the directory. So I guess part was earned part wasn't or something.Lol. I rebooted my PC and BOOM it worked.

Every 10 unlocks is way too often. You either really do have very oily fingers or something is up with your scanner. Never had that even with my 5X.
For the original poster, something is definitely wrong. I would get a replacement.

I do have exactly the same problem. I tried again & again but it didn’t recognize my fingerprint. I also tried with another finger but no luck
I talked to Google and they're sent out a replacement because it's obviously not normal. I'd suggest doing the same. My assumption is a bad batch of sensors.
While I love this phone, its sure had it's share of problems.
Glad I'm not the only one. Had it on 8.0 and just upgraded to 8.1 beta in hopes of something, but no different. Makes unlocking annoying, but even more so using LastPass with finger print is near impossible with this issue.
Ok this might be weird I have the same issue and it depends on how I touch the sensor. If I make sure my finger does not touch the sides of the sensor(the circumference) then it works flawlessly. As my fingers are pretty fat there is a high chance that I hit the sides of the sensor. If I position my finger perfectly over the centre of the sensor, then it works fine. I've had a one plus 2 before and I have never faced this sort of a behavior with sensors.

That still sounds like something is wrong. I just put my finger on the sensor with the tip over and past the circumference and it unlocked fine.

My pixel 2 has lost all semblance of a fingerprint scanner. It quit working and disappeared from the settings. They are sending me a new one but this is unfortunate.
got my new one and the fingerprint scanner is working now. so if you're having this issue get a new one.
I've recently had issues with the fingerprint sensor. I have both my index fingers registered and noticed when the sensor is kinda dirty it will not read my fingerprint at all and forces me to enter my pin. Once I clean the sensor it functions perfectly

When I first got mine I had this problem. However I think the issue was adhesive from the packaging was stuck to it because I was able to rub some gunk off with some water and micro fiber and now its fine.
I have this issue and happens randomly. It's very annoying though and forces me to unlock manually often enough that I felt I had to contact support. No amount of cleaning seemed to work.
I am currently in the process of troubleshooting it via support. They want me to run it on safe mode and try factory resetting although I'm doubtful either of them will work.
when i did my fingerprint setup, i went slow, and varied the angle of my finger, it seem to help and is almost too sensitive. i also attempted to get a larger area of my finger and not just the tip ;-P try to do another additional setup with the same primary finger. see if that helps.
Pixelimprint could not detect my fingers a few times today . i had to manually enter my passcode on lockscreen, bofa and chase, because it says ive made the maximum amount of attempts. i also have my L & R index fingers registered twice.ive cleaned the sensor and as of now im still having this issue.

Google replaced my phone for this last week and just like the first phone, the fingerprint scanner worked fine for a few days.
Now I can unlock the phone using my fingerprint just about every attempt but when I try to unlock apps (1Password, Chase, Robinhood) it fails 99/100. It's to the point where I'm surprised when it works.
When I called Google the first phone gave me a hard time enrolling my fingerprint after a factory reset. It kept saying that the sensor was dirty. I wiped it down with everything from microfiber to a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol. Nothing really helped until it randomly took. Then I had the same issue with apps.
I'm still not sure if it's a hardware or software problem as I can get into the device consistently right now.

[Q] How good is the fingerprint reader?

Not how convenient is the placement - I can tell that in store, what I can't tell and most reviews doen't mention is mean how quickly and reliably does it recognise your fingerprint and how often does it miss, particularly are there any circumstances under which it consistently has trouble?
My current phone is a Galaxy S8, before that I had a Pixel. I plan on getting a new one in the next month or so, short listed to Galaxy S10+ or Pixel3 XL. One of my favourite things about the Pixel is the fingerprint reader, which worked pretty much first time, every time - when I picked it up the phone was unlocked by the time I was looking at the screen. The S8 not so much; I can work around the smaller, less well placed reader but it often has trouble reading my finger print. I've reregistered, rebooted, cleaned the reader etc many times, to no effect, it still has trouble particularly if my hands are cold (for a certain value of cold, never below freezing around here), skin is dry, skin is wet etc...
My partner has my old pixel, I still have a fingerprint registered on it and the pixel still consistently reads it first time, even when the S8 can't.
For me this is one of the make or break features on a phone, it's not covered in reviews and will be hard to test in store, so I'm asking this community - how good is the fingerprint reader on this phone?
(I'm posting this on both the Pixel 3XL and S10+ forums, apologies to those who follow both)
It works perfectly every time, both in my XL and my wife's regular 3.
@Clancy_s I have tested the fingerprint reader pretty thoroughly by having others try to unlock with theirs. It has not failed. And it unlocks quickly for me

Mine works great. Not sure how secure it is but I like it. One thing to remember is the new GS10 has a new finger print technology so I'd try it out in a store if possible before settling on it.

This. Perfect every press, and works great as a notification down-pull if you just want to check them without using two hands, or trying to stretch to reach the top.
Fingerprint unlock worked great on my Pixel 2 XL and working similarly on Pixel 3 XL also
never failed to unlock

Fingerprint sensor useless

I have had this phone since September and came from Huawei P30 Pro, before that Honor V10, Huawei P20 which had fast fingerprint sensor and worked 99% of the time first time .
I cannot believe how bad this sensor is in real use, unlock success rate is about 5% no matter how many times I delete and Reregistered all fingers.
I scan my prints and test in the setup and they are acknowledged correctly but once I start using for real to unlock the phone or approve stuff it rarely works.
I have tried all kinds of angles and strengths of press but it's useless.
Running the beta in hope of improvement but it's still useless.
Did I get a bad unit here or is Samsung just totally crap with fingerprint sensors?
Sent from my SM-N975F using Tapatalk
After you've registered your fingerprints.... re-register them to improve the accuracy of the scanner. Also, if you find it sluggish, reduce the animations in the settings...
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I am reregistering prints to try and improve and after every update hoping something is better.
As said when setting up and checking it is fine but when I have to use for example with 2FA app to approve a log in it just fails "fingerprint not recognised" before eventually going to pin.
Will try the animation setting and see if that helps.

for a while, the Note10+ fingerprint reader had a terrible success rate, no matter what "hacks" i used to try to make it better (i.e. multiple fingers, the "test/learning" hack, etc.) — loads of "make sure you cover the entire sensor" and "no match found" etc.
this tip might be crazy, but it does work: MOISTURIZE LIGHTLY.
100% serious.
my right thumb was not able to unlock my Note while i was working at my desk. super frustrating. looked at my hands, thought they were looking dry, so i put a dab of glycerin hand cream on and BANG: every single damn time now, regardless of whether my thumb is vertical or sideways.
I got my Note 10+ today and have spend a long time setting it up. Once I registered my prints I had not issues (unless I didn't press firmly enough on the screen). It's been fine for me thus far.
You shouldn't compare ultrasonic fingerprint sensors that are in their early stages with optical ones that have been out there for years. Ultrasonic is much more secure. And saying that success rate is only 5% means that you either have a defective unit or need to change the way you use it. I have a success rare of no less that 90%... not as accurate and quick as my old note 8 with its optical sensor but I got used to it
I've had no issues with the fingerprint sensor, before or after the update.

heh yeah classic S10+ fingerprint reader from Samsung. I also found the same "you need to lick your finger first. Yeah, it's not a joke. "
yep lick your finger first does actually work, if you have dry hands the scanner is mostly trash, use moisturiser/lick/damp your finger and it will work near 100% reliability. basically if you don't have clammy hands it will likely be hit and miss.
actually found myself in bars using the condensation on my drinks to help me unlock the phone, it seems an odd thing but it seems moisture in your skin is a massive deciding factor on it working.
