I'm just getting 4G only in areas where I'd usually see LTE icon on my previous devices. It's def. Kicking LTE speeds though!

Sent from my E6853 using XDA Free mobile app

all european model phones usually say 4G...don't know why...it should say LTE...but if anyone is worried, LTE is working as I got 25mb download speedtest in an area that I usually get that range of speeds...so LTE is working but it just won't say so on the phone.

Yes,
4G = LTE
H+ = HSPA+
H
3G
2G
Loving this phone!

Actually, AOSP phones like Nexus say LTE...manufacturers who customize their phones change it.

thats because AOSP is american default version before google changes LTE into 4G and so on unless like you said it's carriers around world changing it.

So, does HSPA+ show up as a separate indicator?

The way you can distinguish between EDGE and HSPA. Is it it's own individual thing or does it just show up as fast HSPA? Basically, how do I know if I'm connected?

I actually ordered a G2 today. That's why I'm asking on the G2 board, asshole.

It depends on which ROM you're using.
On the stock G2 ROM, T-Mobile programmed it so you only either see E for EDGE or H for anything from UMTS to HSDPA to HSPA+.
If you install a Sense ROM, you'll see the correct indicator. I.e. an E for EDGE, 3G for UMTS/HSDPA, and an H for HSPA+.
I have no idea what Cyanogen will show you, as I haven't used CM on my G2, but I would imagine it'd be the same as the Sense ROMs.
Basically, T-Mobile wants you to believe you're *always* on HSPA+, but the non-carrier-backed ROMs tell the truth.

Does anyone know what CM does? It's all I use. Also, HSPA+ just automatically picks up, right? It's not like Sprint's horrible 4G where you have to turn on your 4G radio that sucks the life out of the battery in a matter of hours.

Correct. You *can* switch to EDGE-only if you wish (I do this at work cause I have WiFi and my cubicle is a black hole) but you don't need to do anything special to 'activate' HSPA+
HSPA+ is really just a faster HSDPA revision. Nothing special.
You should get the same H logo from as low as 1.2 Mbps HSDPA to at least 21 Mbps HSPA+ and probably more.
Also, technically, I think that 14.4 Mbps is still part of the HSDPA 3GPP release 5 revision. 21 Mbps is the newer release 7 HSPA+. So even if there were a "H+" sign, the Desire Z/G2 should never use it.

I can 100% say that CM shows G for GSM, or whatever the exact term is. E for edge, 3G for when you are in 3G and H for HSPA+. I've flashed several diffeernt roms and everyone I have flashed(other than stock) show the true data.

Sorry if this seems pedantic, but doesn't it show "H" for HSPA or HSPA+ ? Not just for HSPA+ ?
On my unlocked tmobile comet (Ideos) , when I insert my HSPA+ Sim in, it shows HSPA in the "about phone" info options in settings as network type, but only bars with no 3G/4G icon. (possibly because I am not connecting completely)
Looks like I need to have my provider update my device so it works, but in theory it should.

Double facepalm youself LMAO!! UMTS is 3G (7.2), HSPA is 4G (14.4), and HSPA+ is 4G (21.1) also. You are right though, wtf is an hspa+ sim? The sim I've had since the days of my RAZR works just fine.
In CM ROMs (and most others):
G = GSM/GPRS
E = EDGE
3G = 3G aka UMTS
H = HSPA/HSPA+ aka 4G

What will happen if I use a Non-AT&T ONE-X on AT&T?

I am interested in the ONE-X, but only i fI have the one with the Tegra 3 processors. I'd like that because they are the same as my Asus TF201. My question is can I get a GSM ONE-X to work with AT&T's network? I know it won't be LTE, but would it at least work on the H+ network? I have the Inspire 4G now and I believe h+ will be good enough if i can get it.

No I dont think 4g and LTE are the same.
I am getting HSPA+ speeds using ATT. ATT considers HSPA+ to be 4G.
LTE i believe is completely different than 4g.
What AT&T and T-Mobile (and Verizon for that matter) refer to as 4G isn't technically 4G. Legally by ITU definitions only LTE, WiMax2, etc. are truly "4G" technologies.
That said, the Intl 1X supports all the frequencies necessary to operate on AT&T other than LTE (for that you need the neutered dual core US version). All I did last night was create a new APN in Network Settings for broadband speeds (I know it has an AT&T APN in there by default but I wanted to ensure the settings were correct).
I followed this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69lHUIkEOIE

No LTE for t-mobile gs3

I read that even when t-mobile jumps on the lte band wagon in 2013, that our gs3 phones will not be able to take advantage of the new speeds (what a drag). I'm not sure if this is really the case, but I posted the link to the article below.
http://www.galaxys3newsblog.com/t-mobiles-samsung-galaxy-s3-to-miss-lte-yet-another-dissappointment/
One thing you have to remember you always want to buy a phone that works right now for you not a phone that would work better in the future, I'm happy with hspa+ and by the time I get lte from tmobile I might have another phone anyways so I think I'm cool with that, it bee discuss in another topic too
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
This is true. I just thought that I would post this for those who didn't have the benefit of reading the other post. For those that don't change their phones often and intend on keeping the gs3 for some time, I thought that this was good information to help them make a well informed purchase. I hope this helped anyone that didn't know and wants to buy a gs3.
My HSPA+ speeds are consistanly faster than my friends Verizon LTE. Plus HSPA+ uses dramatically less battery. Heres my speeds in Detroit.

Same here in San Diego. Verizon was fast out of the gate but they heavily over-subscribed their network and now they are lame. AT&T is the crazy fast at the moment but I expect them to be in the same boat as Verizon this time next year.

I personally don't notice much difference by leaving LTE on versus turning it off. I usually get 2 days of use on a full charge. My results may be skewed a bit cause the lte signal is weak in my area, so my phone automatically switched over to 3G.

Give me a break man. I know what 4G is constituted by but with the carriers pushing out their crap (HSPA+ as 4G) calling LTE 4G is a happy medium.
And I was just trying to figure what the hell that guy was talking about when he said 4G. LTE, WiMax, Real 4G, dumb AT&T/T-Mo 4G?
If I understand correctly. The s4 processor has the lte integrated in such a way that is a bit more battery efficient than a snapdragon s3 device with lte.
This might be better in the Verizon form as they have LTE (we do too but in 5cities).

An image doesn't change much, I could swap it to change 2G (E) and it would still give me the same speed.. You can use speedtest app to see if you still get the same speed.
So I shouldn't be to concerned if the LTE icon is no longer being displayed? It was very helpful to have it, let's you know where the best coverage for LTE is at! Wonder why it's not being displayed anymore after rooting??
