Homescreen doesn't display properly in Landscape - Xperia Z5 Premium Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone else have this problem? Icons don't fit on the top and bottom. I know I can fix this by adjusting the DPI but is there another way?
On all my other phones when I flip the screen the homescreen shows fine.

Ok, I think the screen operates in 4k mode, not just when you're watching photos & videos, but anytime you're in landscape.

my homescreen doesn't rotate at all. Portrait only, does yours rotate?

My home scree also do not rotate..

Yeah even my home screen doesnt rotate, is that suppose to rotate?

Sony did this on purpose because when you rotate the resolution changes to 4k and icons don't display properly, You can force auto rotate with this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.fameit.rotate&hl=en

Let's not go again into why Sony chose to display everything but Pictures&Videos in 4K.
But you are wrong. Do the following, via adb
Code:
adb shell dumpsys window | find "3840"
For any app you will get the following output:
Code:
Requested w=2160 h=3840 mLayoutSeq=5146
Requested w=2160 h=3840 mLayoutSeq=8002
But for pictures and videos you will get the following output which indicates 4K output.
Code:
Requested w=3840 h=2160 mLayoutSeq=7964
Surface: shown=true layer=21105 alpha=1.0 rect=(0.0,1.0) 3840.0 x 2160.0
Requested w=2160 h=3840 mLayoutSeq=5146
The reason your icon etc don't look well when you force the landscape rotation is because the launcher you are using was not built for landscape. Try with a launcher that supports landscape and you will see everything fine.

[Q] Wallpaper Sharpness

Not sure if anyone has noticed this, but I loaded several 720 x 1280 images onto my phone and set them as wallpapers on my home screen. I noticed that the image is not as sharp as when I view them in the gallery. I made sure it's not zoomed or anything, just that certain details in the picture are not as sharp until I click on the gallery app and view it in the gallery. Anyone notice this? or am I just being too nit-picky?
I was about to post the same thing. Not just the wallpaper, the icons are not sharp too. Somebody suggested to use a custom launcher but i like TW launcher

Yeah, I'm already using Nova Launcher, and still having same problem ... anyone can help us with this?
Lol, the default system for setting wallpaper in Android is crap. It decreases quality drastically.
And Nova has wallpaper cropping issue, so it will be more worse than TW.
Solution: Use Wallpaper Wizardii to set wallpapers.

Cheers for the advice on the app mate working great
I had the same issue with my Motorola Xoom. I used the app 'Multi picture live wallpaper' which solved my problem. I imagine I'll be using the same app when I get my phone tomorrow.

If when in camera mode you rotate the screen and the icons twist?, it means they are just positioned that way, giving the impression that the app has actually changed from landscape to portrait or vice versa but its always taking pictures right side up.

Correct but i think it may have to do with your screencap app. or just basic method to keep aspect ratio at its max regardless of device angle?
looking at the screen captured, although the notification bar is landscape, the writing is portrait(right side up according to ). if by some chance the camera app was made for landscape mode and having portrait as a rotation feature it still takes pictures right side up, even if taken from the 270 degree rotation of the screen. so my question is where is the camera problems? what besides your screencap of your camera app ready to take a picture showing a rotated notification bar. how about this? when you enter camera is phone rotated? and also what of this screencap app? who makes it?

[Q] Wallpaper resolution

I've tried 2560x1600 and 1600x2560 wallpapers but they look off if I tilt the tablet to portrait or landscape.
So, what resolution should I use?
2560x2560 The wallpaper app shifts to keep the image oriented properly that's why it clips off when switching orientation. When I started off with a larger image I was able to choose a "+" shaped section so it would fill the background at full resolution in both orientations.

Thank you.
I still couldn't find an ideal wallpaper. Even 4K ones are short on horizontal pixels.

Force an app into 16:9 / Fix snapchat stretch issue?

Hi. As some of you have noticed snapchat on our devices stretches recorded video horizontalli, and that's because our navbar is transparent and not solid like on for ex. S8. Does someone have an idea how to fix it or how to disable optimized app from using fullscreen and force it into 16:9? In settings i cant disable it because it is grayed out. I am rooted so terminal commands or modifying files is ok to me. Any ideas?
have you figured it out??

custom wallpaper movies

I like the MIUI wallpaper movie feature but would prefer the option of using custom movies. Unfortunately I couldn't find anything online, so in case anyone else is wondering.....
/sdcard/MIUI/.videowallpaper/
Copy and paste your homemade vids in there and then enable via the themes app. I was concerned the 4k vid might not work or even cause an issue like the sRGB one mentioned earlier, but I spun the wheel and I'm still here. Also, I'm on A9 MIUI 10 so there's a good chance it works on newer firmwares as well.
Thank you so much man! You're a real legend [emoji123][emoji108]!....I am using Seán Doran's The Pearl 4k here.

@wang1chung Themes app stops abruptly upon applying the video wallpaper now. Previously so far it was working perfectly. How to resolve?

I've noticed it's a little glitchy, specifically if you try to have one vid for the lock screen and another for the home screen. The resolution gets stretched instead of cropped.
What did you change since it worked? Does it crash with all vids, even the stock ones? Maybe try clearing the app data and starting again. Are you on A9? I'm using themes app v1.5.09

So I was able to successfully two different videos as my lock and home screens respectively (I edited the Lunasa 4k video which was originally in 1080x1080, into 2340x1080 i.e. my current screen resolution) but the problem with the lock screen one is that it restarts with every screen wake-up which is kinda annoying. I wished it would keep running in the background when the screen's turned off. That'd be what I want.
As for the Themes app version, it's v1.6.0.6. I'm on A10, MIUI 11.0.4. Global.

The video restart issue makes sense for battery saving but if you don't mind that, I wonder if it the AOD mod might help?
I think the resolution changes might be causing issues as the ones available through the themes app are 1080x1920.

How do I execute the AOD Mod and where to get it? I have the AOD Pro v4.4.8 btw but that's not the one u referring to here, right? Please help me run the video in b/g.
Nah, my screen resolution is 1080x2340 so 90% of themes (if not all) are optimized for this resolution only as the wallpapers fit perfectly on my screen top to bottom.

I remembered having a weird issue when I enabled ambient displays "always on mode" along with the lock screen movie. I thought it was what you were asking for but I just re-did it to confirm and it's not. The lock screen video is resuming where it last was right before it powered off. You said you didn't like it restarting, how about pausing?

Yea, my current lock and home screen video (which is the same) are already pausing when I turn off screen (and AOD turns on or even when it's off) and resuming from there when I come to home screen or lock screen which is perfectly fine as it should be and that's what I want actually. I don't want a single second of this beautiful ISS video to be gone during screen off. Although, the problem arises, somehow, when I try to select different videos for each of the screens. Then the lock screen one restarts and the home screen keeps pausing and resuming as it should. I'll try again once more else I'll keep this already-perfect single video aka "The Pearl 4k" by Seán Doran. [emoji847]
