Customize color of quick settings panel - Galaxy Tab S2 Themes and Apps

Hello folks,
I don't quite like the blue color of the quick settings panel background on the Tab S2.
Is there any possibility to customize that color? (E.g., to a blackish or grey one?)
Wanam Xposed lets me customize several colors, but not this one...

Yes. You need to edit xml files in systemui.apk. I have the diffs from the s6 if you want to see. Should be about the same. Pm me, and I'll also try to post here, when I get a chance.
Steve

So, you need to edit values in "status_ bar_expanded_header.xml", found in res/layout, and "colors.xml", found in res/values.
In status bar_exapnded_header.xml, change the value in red (its right at the top) to the hex color of your choice. Your's will be a bit different, as this is from the S6:
Code:
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.phone.StatusBarHeaderView android:layout_gravity="clip_horizontal" android:id="@id/header" android:background="[COLOR="Red"]@drawable/notification_header_bg[/COLOR]" android:descendantFocusability="afterDescendants" android:layout_width="@dimen/notification_panel_width" android:layout_height="@dimen/status_bar_header_height" android:baselineAligned="false" android:paddingStart="@dimen/notification_side_padding" android:paddingEnd="@dimen/notification_side_padding"
In colors, change the value for the following to the color you want:
Code:
<color name="notification_header_bg_tw">
There are more changes you can make in colors.xml (e.g., button color, etc.), and they should be apparent once you get in there...
I attach a status_bar_exanded_header.xml and colors.xml from an "AOSP-style" notification/quick settings area I did for the s6 for your reference.
Please feel free to ask in the thread or via PM if you need help on this. I may release a ROM with some theme options, but I am not sure, as I haven't released one in years and am not sure I have the time to properly maintain it. If I do, or even make one for my own use, I'll post the SystemUI.apk.
Steve

On my T813, the file "status_bar_expanded_header.xml" doesn't have a line like you have in red, and the color.xml file doesn't exist in res/values. Any idea what's up with that?

I'm using GoodLock and mine and I managed to make the status bar completly black. Here's a link: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsung-electronics-co-ltd/good-lock/

Hi!
I tried this and I don't really like it, how can I go back to the original?
Thanks.
Nevermind. I found the solution.

Is apkmirror safe?

Hi how do I use it..i install and it restart my phone but then I can find any app or new settings?

Stuck on goodlock
I installed GoodLock as suggested as well, but nothing seems different after restart; no app in drawer, no settings anywhere, can't uninstall it...any help is welcome.

I think there should be a possibility to run this app using any activity manager from playstore.

Modified Icons for Kaiser Home Plugin

Hello all,
You may have seen my earlier thread with the modified color clock digits for the HTC Home Plugin. Well, I just can't leave well enough alone! This started off as JUVS color version of the Kaiser Home Plugin. I took some of the icons from JUVS version and some from Schaps. Then I made the 'unselected' ones dark and lit up the selected one with a bright spotlight. I also changed the house colors a bit and turned it to face the other side. Just didn't seem right with a blue roof . I like it better now and I hope you do too, see screenshots attached.
To install:
First install JUVS Kaiser Home Plugin, color version, see the CAB file later in this thread. Then go in and make sure the plugin is unchecked in Settings, Today, Items. Make a backup of the HH_FW*.* and HH_HOME*.* files in your Windows folder for safe keeping. Then copy the contents of the ZIP file attached to the Windows folder on your device (not the zip itself, extract the contents) replacing the same-named files. Reselect the plugin and take it for a spin. Love it? Good! Hate it? Restore the original set of icons and associated files or reinstall.
By the way, the colored clock digits I made for the original HTC plugin work perfectly here too. Copy them over the same way if you like. You can find them in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=314510
And, that reminds me, I figured out the bezel issue affecting some of the icons in the files I put out for the original HTC Home Plugin. For those who were bugged by that issue I am attaching a bezel fix ZIP file that will correct the issue and leave a nice transparent icon background in keeping with the them of that set of files. You could use this fix on this Kaiser version as well and it will remove the spotlight from the selected item without affecting the colors and brightness/darkness differentiating selected and unselected. You just have to see it to see if you like it.
Is this for Hermes or Kaiser? This is posted in the Hermes WM6 forum.
Yes!
This applies for both actually, but I'm using it on a HERMES, running the Kaiser HTC Home Plugin. See the 5 tabs instead of 3? If you want it, look for JUVS version in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316107
gmgonzal, great work again! Thanks!!!
i'm trying to copy over the files in vista but i can't seem to... do i need to do this via the phone?
nevermind, stupid vista won't let you extract from an explorer view of a zip file
so the spotlight for each tab seems to show the old black/white icon when it is selected... going to try to recopy the files again.
That's because...

This is meant as a mod for the JUVS color version of the Kaiser Home Plugin. It brings the color icons that you are missing. You should install that first, then copy these icons over. I'm including the CAB file here in case others need it also...
do you know if this has the fixes included in the version posted on pg 6 of the original thread? thanks!
works well now. was wondering if you could do the spotlight with a transparent backgd instead of the gray? looks better with the default ATT them. thanks!

I guess I could , I wanted to do that next myself, it takes more effort to clean up the graphics for that. Check back...
This is great, thanks! Removing the bevel was part of the things I wnated to change about this plugin. What I would really love to be able to do now is completely remove the useless highlight that appears over the icons when they are selected - is this possible?
edit: just to be clear from the post above ... the highlight I mean is not contained in the images, I mean the OS highlight that appears over the images themselves when selected.
Also, for me personally, it would be great to be able to change the colour of the font used - if I change the colour of the clock images, then the font stay white which looks inconsistent to my fussy brain!
Thanks for any help with the highlight thing though.
good work, works well ! thank you!

That highlight pi$$es me off too, what I always wanted to do was have the icons in greyscale and then make them bright color when selected, with no highlight around them. But that highlight seems to be built into the code. As far as the text color, Zoharbl said in my previous thread that you can change the text color for each Today screen item with a program called Today Agenda, but I haven't tried it to see if it works on the text on the top of the HTC Plugin. Here's a link if you want to try it:

[THE] "Translucent" Themes [UPDATED 2/15/2009]

[UPDATE 2/15/2009]
OK, after weeks of failure, I gave up on uploading to the forums (kept saying my security token was missing), and put the files on 4Share. This may be slower, but at least it works. Anyway, just download the zip file, unzip, copy to your device and install. The Opera skin will now automatically install (unless you are using L26's 7.4 ROM, which has Opera installed differently than other ROMs), no need to copy separately. There are two versions for each color, one that shows the Youtube link on the internet tab, and one that does not.
I also attach a (fixed) "Black & red" ".tsk" theme file that you can unzip, copy to your windows folder and select through settings--> personal--> today, if you wish...
Enjoy!

I have not prepared .theme versions, as this theme does not lend itself well to that method (due to registry changes affecting colors), but please let me know if it's wanted.
Non-hideously-ugly green version (like the dialer buttons in the red version) to come soon...
--------------------------
Hi all. This is my first theme on the forums. It basically removes all of the (hideous) green items in Manila. It does not change any icons, wallpapers, sliders, etc, so you can use whatever you like and it looks good, IMHO, with all types of wallpapers, clocks, etc.
The focus items have been changed to a very subtle "translucent" light gray. Kind of like Lexxirae's ultimate gray for the Diamond, but more transparent and lighter. The start menu and task manager highlights have been changed to gray, and all radio buttons, checkboxes, green phone buttons, progress/volume, etc. have been changed to blue or red, depending on the version. I have also included an Opera skin with gray menu selection items and a blue or red progress bar. Please see screenshots, below.
I left the stocks tab's green parts as is, since this is the way stock charts traditionally look. Also, I can't seem to change the Album or Camera menu focus. If anyone knows how, please let me know.
That's it. I hope some of you enjoy the theme, and please let me know of any suggestions to improve it.
As always, use at your own risk and backup first

I looked through the files I changed, and I am certain that I did not alter the volume overlay. In addition, I do not seem to have this problem, and have tried the theme on several ROMs. Do you have anything else installed that might be doing this? You can apply the "Black & Blue.tsk" theme in settings---> personal--> today. This will make those items blue. I think there are some other themes based on the default HTC Black theme kicking around, too, if you search. I also think there is a thread over in the Diamond forums about changing these colors straight from the registry.
EDIT: Here is the link to the Diamond forum thread discussing editing .tsk colors via the registry: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442286

[REQUEST] How to edit app-drawer background

I really love the new graphic style in Android ICS, especially for the blue fades that replaced those horrible plain black backgrounds in almost every list/app/screen. However, the app drawer background is still completely dark, and I was wondering...is there a .png or a file in the android framework, that lets us customizing the app drawer background opacity or better, the entire drawer background image?
The settings blue fade background would be a lot better of plain black, for example. Can you at least point me to the right direction? Thanks in advance!
The app drawer is part of the launcher, I believe, so poking around inside the launcher's .apk file would probably be a good place to start. That said, I probably know less about modding Android than you do, so I could be dead wrong...
Actually, I think this too - despite I talked about the 'framework'. The problem is, that a common android application is made up by a res folder, full of .pngs and pictures, and a lot of other folders that contain all the .xmls for the app itself, that I never achieved to edit in any way. And because I'm sure the drawer background is part of a style .xml, probably being defined by a string such as "background_color=0,0,0/transparency=0" (example taken by some .xmls edited on PC, I actually have no idea of how these things are written in android), it could be useful to know where to find something like that or how to edit this kind of values ;P
C'mon, I can't believe everyone actually never tought of changing the drawer background! I mean...this is one of the first feature that you -devs of several alt. launchers- will have to add, and so far (think to ADW) it has not been so difficoult! So...please, if you know something on that, point me to the right file or config!
I downloaded Launcher2.apk, extracted it, and gone through each single file inside. And "Drawer Layout" or "Drawer Background" aren't there. What could I do next?
Looking at the Launcher2 source, it is a xml file in the drawables folder named wallpaper_gallery_background.xml.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
wallpaper_gallery_background.xml - it was one of my search result for "backgound" keyword. But I went over it, since I think is related to the wallpaper picker (the little gallery of wallpapers at the bottom of the wallpaper selection screen...). Any other ideas?
p.s.: Happy that finally someone is paying attention to this topic... xda doesn't help people with a few posts or subscribed only some months ago (and that doesn't implies that they're newbie or dumb è_é) in ANY WAY... ;D I think this would be a very appreciated feature, this thread has a lot of views in just 1 day and a half!
I will play around with the source and get back with you.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Only thing I could find in Launcher2 is in drawable-xhdpi. The first PNG is apps_customize_bg.png and its a black image. Didn't see any XML files related to app drawer, which leads me to think its all hidden in smali code or another apk.

@AndHel Great! That's the answer I was waiting for! Thank you so much...I hope we'll be able to find something relatively easy to handle ;D
BTW, it would be very interesting knowing a bit more about Android decompiling and modding...if you want, explain me (even very quickly) how will you reach certain files/configurations, if you'll do, when you'll do.
@mb02 Thank you for your efforts too, I hope you're wrong but I fear you're right...absolutely not even a single word that remembers the "app drawer"! Maybe with your patience, we'll find out more!
...and I keep searching around /system for any kind of thing graphic-related to this damned drawer ;P

In every iteration of Android prior, including skinned versions (Sense, TW, blur) the app drawer coding and images resided in the launcher (Rosie, Launcher, etc). The naming, however, wasn't ever "app drawer" but "all apps" as drawer was never he official term for the all apps view. Rosie launcher had multiple XML files in the Rosie.apk res/layout folder that dealt with this "all apps" as well as related images. With the absence of anything related to apps in this Launcher2.apk, I feel as though everything was moved to smali or in another apk, unless they cleverly hid it in another XML in Launcher2.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
It's within /res/layout in Launcher2. The file is called apps_customize_pane.xml
Just change the 2 values ff000000 into something else, i.e. bb000000 to make them slightly transparent.
It sounds promising...i thought that file was for a screen called "apps customization"
...may I ask which other letters could I use to increase/decrease opacity? AFAIK, numbers are for color and letters are for alpha...right?
Anyway, thanks so much for this solution! - I'll give it a try as far as I can. BTW, no way to replace a colour with something better, like a .png? Maybe just removing that string, and replacing it with something slightly different...
Edit: I'm having troubles in editing that .xml. Apktool fails decompiling Launcer2.apk probably because I'm using an old version of the android SDK, and this means...that I'm stuck at unreadable .xmls. I'm waiting for the SDK manager to have all updates installed, and then I might be able to finally "undress" this damned drawer ;P
This is likely harder than you expect. A few technical notes (and yes it's possible this will be a Nova feature in the future but it's not officially planned at this time).
1) App drawer is indeed called "AppsCustomizePagedView"
2) When viewing the app drawer, the launcher disables the wallpaper from showing (I believe as an optimization). I think if you made the drawer fully transparent you would see (in order from top to bottom):
Drawer
Smaller sized home screens
Black background
If you're editing source you can prevent the black background by changing updateWallpaperVisibility(). To hide the home screens you'd probably have to change the animation code in showAppsCustomizeHelper which could be a bit tricky.

But, using APKtool to decompile or recompile is very similar....
If you already have apktool all setup with your Roms framework file, and you already decompiled the file...... to recompile, all you have to do is use the command "apktool b foldername"
where folder name is the folder that it decompiled the apk to (likely Launcher2)

the theme is default.
Can the installation of root tools have something to do with that?
This also happened to me, affecting lockscreen numbers too. I'm going to look look into the registry later as I think it's probably just caused by root tools or a custom theme accidentally changing one of the button color codes to #000000. I'll post my findings later.

when i managed custom themes with metro themes or other homebrew registry hack (ie advanced config or mods for black mails layout) for theming the accent colors
reinstall metrothemes and try to apply default theme to black background and white background also and restart phone (remember to apply black layout to black themes and white to whote themes)
hope you fix, i have fixed my white ignore button with this method
it is due to changing the registry entries of theme/0 or theme/1 folder, chromecolor or an another entry, i have the same issue and get it back with all the stock settings. or you have copied some xaml files to the windows/ folder of your device that changed the registry edits for you, if they are still in the windows folder you must delete them, but you also must delete the custom accent of that xaml that you delete.
I was using the app Metro theme or something like that, homebrew. Reverting to the stock worked.
Thanks.. I reset to default and it works again. Strange as I swear I've done that many times already. Cheers

metro sytle or something? i know, it changes the background but also some other parts and if only one xaml file dont work like it should then some thing mess up the phone icon in call history as example, or the call ending button during call, or the status bar, or the icons of each letter in the people hub. and so on, if you want to change some things you must know which registry entry is for what, and you must know before you change it how it is gonna look use photoshop or some similar program that lets you compare colors, you can paste there your color code from the xaml files, and look if it is the right choice, then simply switch in registry, but only if you are sure what you change

I'm not sure how many of you use the XPOSED framework, but if you were ever curious, I can assure you, it works on the glide.
One thing I was jealous of was the iOS ability to change status bar colors depending on the apps, because I think it looks cool. For those of you like me, you might want to be able to do something like this. Well, you can, with this mod.
Now, on that second page, it has a link taking you to a place where you can contribute colors to the page, to make it easier for people to color their apps.
What if you don't want to use those, or they don't have the app you like to use a lot?
Well, its simple, and I'll explain in the next post.

Ok, here we go!
First, follow the first link, and install the Framework. Go ahead, I'll wait.

Done? Ok.
You need to download and install the .apk that is the mod, by following the second link, and then enabling it, and restarting your phone.
Ready for the tutorial?
1.) Download Color Picker.
and open it.
You should then see this:
Press the button indicated.
2.) Minimize the app, you'll need it in a bit, and then go into the app you want to customize the status bar for.
Take a screenshot. For this tutorial, I will be using Astro File Manager as an example.
3.) Go back to color picker, and open up that screenshot you just took.
Tap anywhere to see the name of the color and its hex value.
4.) Open up Tinted Status Bar:
And select the app you would like to color.
Remember, I'm using Astro as an example. Every system and user app should show up here.
5.)When you choose the program to color, it should show it, and a list of services detected that it runs.
You can use catlog to pinpoint exactly what part you want to color, but oftentimes the only one you need is the very top one:
6.) It should show you this after you choose one:
On the left is the status bar color, and on the right is the status bar text color.
7.) After choosing the left one, it will look like this:
After the double f's, put in the hex code you got from color picker earlier.
Remember! Keep the ff; it's an important part of hex color code.
Click preview to see how it looks!
8.) Yay! Looks great!
Click apply to set the color for that app service!
9.) That's it! It looks snazzy now, and matches the color.
If you have any questions, PM me, leave a comment, or check out the thread that the dev created. (The second link.)
If you would like to contribute, please add your colors here!
