how can you determine the manufacturing date of an LG G4? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

also is there upgradable firmware in this phone? (not referring to the ROMs we are flashing, I mean the firmware for the phone's hardware itself, nothing to do with Android)

There is an App which is called LG phone info. You should see the manufacturing date with it

First 3 digits of serial number are year/month in ymm format. 507: 5 = 2015, 07 = July.

Are people checking because of the rumors faulty motherboard?

mine was made May 20, and it works great - this app even tells the three digit LG country code in case you do not have your original box, and want to know if bootloader can be unlocked

no, and why would it matter, your G4's rewritable internal memory can handle 1000's of flashes throughout its lifetime!

Well, mines is having crazy sections of bootloops for no apparent reason. When it happens it can't enter Recovery. It bootloops even from download mode. When I manage to successfully flash a Kdz, bootloops still come back again after some time. And guess the manufacturing date

check the date in http://imeidata.net/check?imei=<your imei> and go to warranty (or directly http://imeidata.net/warranty/lg?imei=<your imei> )

Mine says it on the box it came in. Same as with my G3, so if you still have your box I'd say that's the easy answer.

It depends on your variant as far as what the latest version is. Mine is on the side of the box, on a sticker/label.

It was on May. Now it is totally useless stuck in bootloops. Maybe it is the most common manufacturing date and the buggy devices might represent a low %, but not all made on that batch.

what your lg g4 manufacture date

???

I have had two g4 that were purchased at same time fail right at the 12 mos
They were both 508 date code
Luckly they both replaced under warranty
When they failed they would get stuck at boot screen "lg life is good" sometimes going through endless restarts or just shutting off where you need to pull battery to get it to try again
Data was recovered by freezing. I put in a zip lock bag in freezer for half hour. It would then boot normally. Needed to keep cold entire time, once it heats up it will stop. So use a bucket of ice or run your usb cable out of your freezer while downloading. Tried using a hair dryer to heat, but that method only worked once for a few minutes.
This is a manufacturing defect, some kind of bad solder joint or similar issue.
From my research, appears to happen more often in summer months, like you leave phone in hot car and a weak solder joint gives out. Heating and cooling works to temporarily cause the electrical connection to work through thermal expansion or contraction.

I don't know how to enable adb on it, but I would expect that it would be available, for the moment merely doing a
Code:
adb pull /system
will be as much as anyone can expect.
In the event it actually supports fastboot, I'd also like to request a
Code:
fastboot get-var all

Bump, the moto 360 is now shipping/shipping soon, one of the preloaded roms is KKW22
I also need the version string of the bootloader.
You can find the bootloader version in fastboot,.
Also, you do not need to be rooted to dump system, all you need is to enable adb.
I'll do a system dump. You do need root to dump recovery.
Rebooting into fastboot gets this.

Can you connect a regular USB cell phone cable to the computer and the charging dock at the same time? Would the computer see it?

Tried, nada. There is speculation that there is a USB port hidden on the main board. (5 holes on the bottom of this,

I'm about 3 hours into a dump right now. ADB over bluetooth is ridiculously slow. Unless you just want to do it as well I'll upload when I'm done to save you the time.
Well could someone upload the build.prop while waiting?
Though I want a copy of the entire rom, I mostly need the build.prop
@fodawim
what rom is installed right now? if you got an ota it is likely KGW42N.
Was it before or after the ota?
I can't imagine the only direct access to it would be only via BT,
having to take it apart to service/program it seems like a hassle.

I'm looking forward to seeing a teardown on it. I'm guessing there's some way Moto can service it like popping either the back or the screen off and just plug in an adapter that has pogo pins or something. Doesn't necessarily look like an ideal device for modders right now though.

Yeah it's running on KGW42N (4.4W.1), not the stock image when it shipped.
I'm thinking it may be just below the watchband location, going to remove the bands in a sec to see.
What's the model number on the back of it/box/whatever?
If there's anyone that hasn't updated yet, could they grab the full ota url by using wireshark/fiddler/<preferred packet sniffer> and redirecting the 360 to it before letting it connect to the internet for the first time?

Careful, someone said they busted the back plastic trying to take it off. It has to be possible since they are releasing the metal band later, but go slow so you don't break it.

That is cool. I hope they replace world wide.
The solution would be select GSM only. And turn off data network. This will somewhat solve the problem for some people.

Hey guys im in Australia now with third batch phone, me and my wife both have the same problem shutting it down by itself and have to jumpstart. Even after we had android update and still got that thing. Seems sony doesnt know how to fix the problem and had manufactured this hpone without relevant test.
I will never use sony brand again. Not any of them.

This doesnt work at all.
The phone shuts off itself depends on signal strength
And when the type of network is changed,
For example, 4g > 3g the thing happens.
i'm having the same problem, cuurently waiting email reply from local SC regarding this.

Hey guys, I had the same problem and send the phone to Sony.
Now I had to go for it. Do you guys know how to check if they really changed the battery for the new one? I mean, without opening the phone,
Regards!
I'd like to update that since the new firmware update this problem has been gone for us. No longer shuts down when signal goes bad.
Edit: Spoke too soon. Worked fine for a while, has shut down twice now but seems less frequent than before, only a couple of times in a month. Guess we will take it for warranty repairs.
Mine still shuts down on 30.1.B.1.33. Did it twice today, in fact. Maybe the next release will fix it, or possibly it can't be sorted in software and needs the hardware fix.

Could be as you say, i think you put too much faith in them. They just try to cover their behind the best they can.
I provided them with the IMEI when the program started, via a webform because they initially said they will post the replacement and collect the [potential] bomb upon delivery. My issue with them is that now they expect the mobile provider to exchange it. Vodafone said i'll have to give it back and wait until a replacement becomes available (i.e. they don't care).

it's probably deep coded in the firmware leading to it needing a root to do since it is also on the power options screen, so all I would assume is rooted devices would be treat as unrepaired.

[Q] Any solution on removing the pop up on first gen N7?

Hey all,
I've tried flashing my 1st gen note7 with a green battery firmware in hopes it would remove the pop up. Al tho the update went through but unlike on our green battery second version n7 where we've got back to 100% and 0 popups. The first gen still has the pop up coming out. The battery did not change to green color either. As if the firmware flash did not go through but it did.
So the question is, has anyone been able to figure out how to disable the pop up on 1st gen note 7 (W8 version)??
oh i have that pop up message also after i flushed the rom. I asked in sprint xdadev thread and no one know why i am getting that pop up and they are not. I have 1st gen note 7 also. so i guess all 1st gens are getting the pop up. At least it charges all the way up to 100% now.

Own31, check your PM. I explained why you are still receiving the warning message and have no green battery.

Try install package disabler pro 6.3 (if you don't already have it installed) and disable the following:

hehe where have you been for the past week? PD 6.3 is no longer working =)
We found another way tho but those disabling those apps won't work as Gen 1 is different from Green battery gen2.
I will try to disable that last one, never tried hitting that one (securitylogagent) Doubt it will work but i still have hope. Thx
What is the difference between Gen 1 i from Green battery gen2 ?????? ( I thought is the software update)

Samsung knows the difference based on the IMEI.
The software update will either give you the warning message everytime you plug in or reboot (if you have the original N7), or it will give you the green battery icon (if you have the "replacement" N7). The same update is responsible for both...the behaviour all depends on which version of the phone you have.

well for one, downgrading the firmware on first gen still gives you a popup and gray battery.
downgrading same firmware on second gen ,gives you green battery and no popup.

Wait, so Sammy didn't make any hardware differences to the 2nd gen? Then how did they know it was "safe"?

I thought that wast obvious, thats why i did not mention it.
Yes, as the reports says it was deemed save. The battery was changed, some say their note 7 is more responsive and does not heat that much etc.
Ive had both in my hands and did not see any fvcking difference. Both were awesome. (gave first gen to my gf)
any update on how to remove the pop up message when you plug in the charger?
Non. still have it on first gen.

Update from Verizon - Pulled Back?

There was an update for my Verizon Note 10+ 5G which supposedly failed and was successfully rolled back. I checked again and tried the PC tools which give me an error message saying my firmware is not compatible with the PC update tool. (I am NOT rooted.) I checked again OTA and now it says there is no update which means Verizon must have pulled it! I see no issues operationally with the phone - Note my s/w version as well. Anybody else run into this?

With AT&T I'm more afraid of their updates and automated downloads/flashes than malware... lol, still on Pie.
Best to keep updates blocked, let it roll out and see how many get rolled over by it.
Give it a couple weeks and then decide.
With Q I'm still not satisfied enough to load it and as such the backlog of security updates remain pending.
Whatever.

I don't think it was pulled. I got the update a couple of days ago with no failures.
I have the Verizon Note 10+ 5G. Stock not rooted.

Then why does it say my upgrade failed but I have the most up to date version!?!?? What build do you have, does it match the build number in the photo shown of my phone?

Girlfriends Verizon version got an update. She makes it known to tell me because of bad experiences with Verizon updates . I don't know what happened with hers though. She uses her pixel 4 as her personal but I'll ask.

Thank you for your reply but mine is specific to the Note 10+ 5G, so what you suggest is like comparing Apples to Oranges. I have noticed also as you can see by the photos originally supplied, although it tells me the update failed, the software version has changed and that may be why it also says there is no update available. I may actually be running the later version or not, there is no way to really tell, either way it was handled very sloppily by Verizon and is concerning.
However, I have also heard, Google will be discontinuing the Pixel line of phones so as they say, every company is screwed up, they are just screwed up different ways...!

I was talking about her note, she has 2 phones.
The August update is a battery hog and it's also caused Bluetooth issues. If I didn't have to wipe the phone, I'd go back to the July update. Maybe enough people complained and they quietly pulled it.

Once I get a stable load that's running well, I leave it alone. Been running both Windows and Android like this for many years with very little trouble. As you are keenly aware of tracking down an update issue can be very time consuming*. Many times a hard reset due to malware be easier. Malware on Android has caused me only one hard reset in over 6 years.
I herd dinosaurs, lol, I take a conservative approach to updates because many times the cure is worse than the disease. A bare bones updated Windows or Android machine runs faster... I hate waiting.
Carriers are partnered with Samsung and jam their own crapware and app graphics "updates" in their too on OS upgrades.
These can make it usable... I remember the horror of Lollipop on my S4+, destroyed it... thanks AT&T. Not.
That's one reason I'm still running on Pie... with no issues.
*may be a settings issue. My Pie load runs best with all power management turned off especially 3rd party including Samsung. A new update means a Google search won't yield many solutions for it.
The first app I block is AT&T updates... no joke.

I don't know. Look up that error code 410.
Like I said, I don't think it was pulled.
