Pixel c or galaxy tab s2 - Pixel C Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm about to send back to amazon my brand new lenovo yoga tab 3 pro : it's cute, with premium feelings, has a great pico projector, but it is so laggy!
So I want the best android tablet.
For 500€, I can have the galaxy tab s2, 32gb with sdcard and LTE.
And i can have the beautiful Pixel C 32gb without the keyboard.
What do you think?

Yesterday I bought the Galaxy Tab S2. There was a great offer in Germany: the price was 459€ and you got a 100€ voucher and the Samsung book cover with keyboard for free (official price for this is 160€). So it's 359€ for Tablet and cover.
But if I had had the choice to get the Pixel C for the same price I would choose the Pixel C I think.

Pixel C of course, Tegra X1 vs Exynos 5433.
No contest, Tegra X1 is much much faster!

Comparison threads are against the rules.

The lack of hard buttons on the Pixel C alone is enough to justify going with the Pixel C, in my opinion. Samsung is so far behind with their hard buttons (back, home, recents) being embedded in the bezel. Android has a lovely interface and soft buttons just work better. Especially on a tablet where you will be using it in both portrait and landscape modes. Having an insanely fast SoC and the best build quality, bar none, is just icing on the cake.

I had the Tab S2 for just under a month and returned it. Same ole' same ole' Samsung. Lighter, faster etc... but really its just another Samsung.

So, I've read many things
PIXEL C has a really best processor, a beautiful premium aluminium body, a new Usb C 3.1, it will have every update as soon as possible, it will have a great stock experience, the bootloader will be unlockable without loosing the warranty.
The galaxy tab s2 is thinner, has sdcard, has 4g LTE, it has multi windows already available.
really, I don't know...

I have both.
Pro's Pixel C:
-Better screen
-Smoother UI experience
-Can be unlocked, still warranty
-Faster charging due to usb C
Biggest Con:
-Horrible wifi (because of this I have to return it)
Pro's Tab S2:
-Thin and light
-SD card (and LTE for you)
-Best wifi ever. Better than expensive Wifi usb dongles.
-Doesn't get hot when reading stuff, browsing (unlike Pixel C)
Cons:
-Pixel C's pro's

Pixel C gets hot when reading? No it doesn't, I've also got a PIxel C.
My Wifi performance is okay so far., about the same as my Galaxy S6.

Mine gets a bit warm where the volume buttons are located. Just browsing and watching youtube.
When playing games, even the screen gets warm. But I do understand it is because of all the metal. My HTC one gets also warm when doing casual stuff. This shouldn't be a point for buying the tablet or not, just worth mentioning when comparing to tab s2
It performs well when you're close to the router, even better than other devices. But with a little distance or a wall between the speed drops down significantly.

Hello guys
I read all the tread but its not easy because I'm from Belgium, I speak French, its little hard for me..
My old asus is broken, I need new tab right now.
I use always in landscape mode in my house for : surfing, YouTube, gaming , modding ..
I'm afraid with 4/3 s2 ...
Pixel c is fine but no possibly hand on ( Google store )
So, guys , s2 or pixel c ?
Have a nice day en thanks you budy
BTW, sorry for my English.

Good morning fellow in my point of view there is no comparison between pixel c tab samsung s2, the pixel c is eaten with potatoes. Sorry for my bad English and a greeting.

Eaten with potatoes? What do you mean?

Upon further use, I am finding the speaker placement really annoying. I find that when playing games in landscape mode, my hands cover the speakers and it makes the sound awful. Having the speakers in the corner would have made a lot more sense. Also, the front facing camera being on the long side of the screen is annoying to me, but it's not really that big of a deal. I still think the hard buttons on the Galaxy S2 are a deal breaker to me. That and I absolutely hate Samsung's Android skin. It just bogs down devices and makes for a poor experience.

Yes. The speakers are in the center on the top and bottom if you are holding it in portrait mode. In portrait, there is no problem. It's only when holding it with 2 hands in landscape that you may notice the problem. I have very large hands and that may contribute to the issue, though. I would like to reiterate my suggestion, though. The Pixel C is superior to the Galaxy Tab S2 in my opinion. For the most part, Samsung makes amazing hardware. I can't stand their hard buttons that force you use to use the tablet in one specific orientation. Having the buttons be controlled by Android on the screen is a much more elegant solution. Other than that, the only reason I would not buy the S2 is because Samsung Touchwiz is bloated, resource intensive garbage.

Thanks you Airwolf
I thing pixel is the good choice.
I'm little afraid with Google sav in my country Belgium..

I think I will buy the Pixel c too, but I wait for its availability on Amazon (perfect sav)

Buying a Pixel C over the Tab S2 is one of the worst decisions you can make at the moment. Please read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-c/general/mapping-problems-to-serial-t3274660/page3 , the pixel c has broken wifi, a buggy touchscreen and is overall a bud ridden beta device. If you want to pay Google for beta testing their shoddily designed tablet, then by all means go ahead. The Tab S2 is cheaper and less flashier but it is a full baked product and offers a fingerprint sensor, split screen multitasking, a screen equal to if not better than pixel c with impossibly deep AMOLED blacks. I was a believer in pure google devices (and still am with devices like the Nexus 6P that get it right) but Google hasn't made a good tablet since the 2013 Nexus 7. I had to return 5 Nexus 9s due to screen bleeding before getting a good one and am returning my second Pixel C due to bad Wifi.
Until, a second version of the Pixel C is released which addresses these serious issues, the c in Pixel C stands for CRAP.Period.

Pixel C touchscreen issue (video)

Just received the Pixel C and I immediately checked for the touchscreen issue some reviews were talking about.
There's definitely a touchscreen issue. In the video Pixel C is on the left and Galaxy Tab S2 on the right.
(this is not an issue of lag or something, Pixel C is much smoother than the Tab S2. It's the touchscreen.)
watch in 60fps https://youtu.be/Q9illQ7kp_w
I will test this when i get home but I have not noticed any real world use issues with the touchscreen. I used a Note 10.1 2014 edition daily for over 2 years and didn't notice any issue when I switched over to the Pixel C yesterday.
You should try to pinch to zoom on a picture or just in chrome. It's stuttery.
Could you also check if The left side (where the volume buttons are) gets warm... I'm just browsing and it's getting quiet warm.
No stutter here. Pinch to zoom works perfect.
Check your hardware revision, I'm curious to see what others have. Mine is 5
As far as the heat, it's to be expected with such a powerful processor/gpu along with the metal body.

Also 5. I've rebooted the tablet and it's gone for now. I'll let you when it comes back.
I honestly can't see any problems with the video. Is it that the circles don't follow your fingertips as closely?

I believe thats the issue they are trying to show. There is a lag in the touch input in his video compared to the S2
Looking at the video the problem you're probably talking about is a delay between the digitizer and the screen.
That can be fixed by over clocking the display. I also noticed today that when the device is cold 40°F I get that same "laggy" effect. Not worth worrying over though.
Sent from my Pixel C using Tapatalk
I'm finding the touchscreen really problematic. I find I have to make very firm and deliberate touches unlike my Tab S. Even though I can hear my finger tapping the screen, it doesn't register. I can't play "word find" type games because you have to trace the letters so slowly in order for them to register.

Upgrading from a Nexus 10?

Anybody here buying a Pixel C to replace their Nexus 10? If so, and if you still have said Nexus 10, could somebody post some side-by-side comparison pics? I'm mainly curious about the different screen aspect ratio. Can't find any pics anywhere searching the interwebs. Maybe fire up an HD video on both (1920x800) to see how much black bar there is on top and bottom on the Pixel C. Looking to find a replacement for my N10. Thanks in advance!
I don't have both but I can say when watching an HD video you have about a finger width sized black bar. Compared to the N9 I returned to get this its much less noticeable.
It's a great device. If you HAVE to have a replacement then this is what I'd suggest getting. Most other Android tablets on the market are dumbed down smartphones with a huge screen. It's kinda disappointing actually

Cool. Thanks for the reference! That was one of the things that turned me off from the Nexus 9. I hate that iPad aspect ratio they used. What good is a 9" screen if it's almost a square shape, as the movie shrinks down to fit the horizontal length. I mainly use my Nexus 10 for media consumption like watching movies, so this helps. Technically, I don't HAVE to replace it per se, but I am a sort of a Nexus wh*re (not sure about the language rules), and my N10 is starting to show signs of lag here and there that are starting to aggravate me (especially when comparing it to my Nexus 6P).

Great pics! Thanks a bunch! The pic with both screens on side-by-side really helps put it in perspective. The bezels on the Pixel C appear to be A LOT smaller than the ones on the N10. Because of this, it appears the height of each device is almost similar, even though the vertical dimension of the screen on the Pixel C is significantly taller.
One more question: How are the speakers in the Pixel C compared to the N10?

The speakers of are pretty equal quality, the Pixel C is LOUD. Also, since the speakers are on the side, they're very easy to cover up.

Yeah, I'm just waiting for this thing to get root, and confirmation that Xposed Framework works like it should on a Nexus device. Finding it harder and harder to not buy this thing...

I could definitely see the difference in image quality on the Pixel C. It is also faster (of course). To get the full advantage though, will need to root and get some custom ROMs. It
Please folks do not buy the Pixel C till the Wifi and touchscreen issues are sorted out. This device is defective in it's current state and needs to be recalled. The Tab S2 is a much better device for lesser money till Google fixes the Pixel C (never though I'd be pitching for Samsung ): )

Pixel C is the winner in my case.
Check the dbm readings using wifi analyzer, pixel c will be lower. So far no one has given actual dbm readings from the pixel c and wifi analyzer app that show pixel c has equal or stronger signal, but plenty of folks have proven otherwise. Signal strength determines effective range and is ALWAYS lower on the pixel c.

Not so here. Pixel C has 2 - 8 dBm better numbers (to the "green" end) than the Galaxy S6 Edge.
Just to confirm, when you say -8dbm better, the absolute numbers are lower for the pixel c or higher? If the number is higher the pixel is 8 dbm lower since we are talking about a -ve log scale here.
I do have both devices and I do love both devices.
But the Pixel C is much faster and has much better display.
Yes, the wifi signal is not that strong as the one from nexus 10.
But here we are using wifi-ac standard which is by design much faster as the old "N" version.
Pixel C runs 215 Mbit max with our asus ac-router, but I do have other 2x2 devices which are running 400 Mbit without problems.
The xceed kernel made some improvements too.
Also in terms of stability.

Am I missing something?

So I chose the pixel xl as my Note 7 replacement and although it's not a bad phone, honestly it's not nearly as good as the s7 edge or even the note 5 ( I haven't owned only Samsung phones those are just my last two).
I thought Google assistant (the main reason I chose this phone) was supposed to be a big deal but is there really any major difference than using "OK Google" on any other android phone? Also, no wireless charging or microsd slot? Seriously, what makes this phone worth the sticker price?
I know this sounds like just a rant but after reading all of the positive reviews about this phone, I feel really let down after actually using it and I honestly feel like I'm missing something major here. Anyone else?

I think your perspective is right on. If your coming from a 3 year old phone, this phone is mind blowing. If your coming from a premium Samsung or iPhone, its meh at best. I upgrade every year and to me its just a small iteration. My Nexus 6 is still my favorite phone. The Pixel is a $500 phone.
My thoughts exactly. No micro SD slot (just to get user to store everything on googles cloud) no wireless chrging(though I give them credit for the 15 minute plug in giving 7 hours of use. The phone is efficient. I've gotten almost 5 hours of screen time with heavy use. The call quality seems to be better than Samsung. HD calls on verizon sound really good on my end and others have stated this is the clearest I've sounded to them in a while(maybe the design using glass at the top of the back for better antenna reception really does matter). I like googles launcher. But this phone starves for faetures like "Hidden folder" on the note 7, good lock thru galaxy apps, notification light blinks so slow i can unlock the phone before the light flashes. No always on screen. From the front the phone feels like i'm holding a galaxy S4. The chin is huge for no reason. 5.5 in screen is no longer "XL". Should make a 6 inch screen for the XL. CAmera is great. No numbered notifications(a little number in a bubble showing how many new texts or calls) no batter percentage option. Finger print sensor on the back is easier to use and it's fast. I guess all the fuss is about google assistant. To me it's not qite a flagship but lets remember. Google(like all other phone companies) need to you to give this 1 up when the next one drops. So guarantee the next one has wireless charging and or a SD slot. Just my opinion.

Thank you! I really don't think it's a bad phone but the price and the hype is just crazy! It seriously feels cheap to me. I know it's all metal but because of the different textures on the back it feels like plastic unless it's cold. It's not even water resistant and the top and bottom bezels are way too big to look like a phone that costs this much.
If Samsung or apple came out with this phone they'd be in serious trouble but Google does it and it's some kind of revolution? The assistant isn't going to be even close to useful until it's available in the Play store for everyone. It's just missing so much that phones released 6 months ago costing $100-$200 less already have.
I was really excited for this phone after the note 7 thing and I'm just really disappointed. I'm keeping my note 7, fire hazard or not.
Google's phones will never, ever, ever include an SD card slot, ever again. This will always be a choice you have to make with Google, because they religiously believe in the cloud. I just tell people to get a Moto if they want a Nexus-like with SD card support. However, the unlimited photos and videos at full quality for free offered with the Pixel is amazing.
As for wireless charging, now that I have quick chargers everywhere I stopped using wireless charging with my Nexus 6 months ago. It's just sooooo sssllllooowwwwww. And the Pixel charges quite quickly, even on non-QC chargers. For instance, it seems to be sinking quite a bit of current from my powered hub, which just supplies 5V but can source about 3A per port. It can basically max out any charger that's not that stupid OnePlus proprietary one. Not a big deal.
I even like the bezels, because they give you a place to put your hands when holding it in landscape.
I find the suggestion that they should have released another 6" behemoth interesting, because I remember when the N6 was launched there was a lot of grousing that there were no small flagships left. The common refrain was 2 models, one 5.5" and one 5". As someone who loved the Nexus 6 in basically every respect, it's just a tiny bit too big. I am a 6' tall person with normal hands for that height, and I can't reach nearly the whole screen with one hand. It's not a one handed device, at all. The Pixel, on the other hand, seems to be a perfect size, in addition to being better in every respect compared to the at-the-time brilliant Nexus 6.
Also, you can totally get battery percentage with System UI Tuner. Just hold down the settings icon in the notification shade.
well, if you like the look and style of an IPhone, the Pixel XL is a good choice for you; yeah, no stereo speakers is a drag, but I like the Assistant, and it is the fastest phone I have ever used.
the hype is excessive, but thats what we get with everything now a days..

Does your settings gear now have a dim wrench next to it? If so open settings and scroll down to the bottom. You should see "System UI Tuner". Or, you know, you can google it yourself since I gave you all of the relevant information.

Now see here. This is a perfect example. It's all a matter of taste and perspective. The previous google phone users seem to love the Pixel/XL . I come from a long line of Sammy Note phones. Honestly I thought the Note edge was a great phone but with a case on it ..it was a bit to wide for me. actually to me the S6 edge plus was the perfect phone size wise and aesthetically. the 5.7 inch screen and the glass back were perfect. I also have the moto Z force just for the mods. When I think about it, with no bezels and a shortened chin the 5.7 inch screen of the S6 edge+ was basically perfect for me. As far as "wireless" charging I did have to have "fast wireless charging". It's not as fast as a cord with rapid charge but sometimes you just want to sit the phone down and get a quick boost. Not that I'm back to plugging in I do miss fast wireless. Again the assistant is cool, the camera is really decent. anyway.. to each his own. On edit.. thanks for the SUI heads up.. I like it. However,, that mini number in the battery is virtually unreadable.

The one thing I noticed straigh away was the crazy fast response everything on the pixel has compared to the note 7, there would be so many times that the Note 7 would visibly stutter even just a second here and there. Things like opening up and typing on the keybaord instantly would create this minute lag in the interface. I am very picky when it comes to that so I noticed straight away the Pixel is just fast, it doesn't stutter or lag like the note 7 did. Also small things like the speaker is FAR better than the Note 7, it's louder and fully than the 6p even. I hate edge screens too, I couldn't stand the note 7 in that regard, felt uncomfortable to hold compared to the pixel. I'm just so happy that I got a phone that just works ALL THE TIME. That's why I paid the extra $100 over the note 7 for the pixel. And I'm also betting on Google assistant (AI) becoming FAR more integrated and more powerful. All other phones will be missing out I think. Hardware can only go so far, software on the other hand....
Man who needs an SD card now?? I can finally video tape everything in 4k and not worry about memory or ever loosing the footage because it'll always be on the cloud! I legit video tape everything I can now!

I agree on the speed, the note did stutter on me from time to time any this phone doesn't at all really (although I have had a few force closes, possibly the apps fault). The assistant has promise but let's be honest, it's no better than Google now at the moment and by the time it is better, it'll be available on every android phone.
The phone itself to me is just last year's Cadillac with this year's Mercedes price tag.

A lot of people do. Really why drain your battery to access files on line rather than an sd card using less battery power and files on your sd card are a lot safer than the hackable cloud. And there is the extra data you use to access files on line. Sd cards use absolutely no data to access your files and do not eat up battery power so.
1. Sd card files safer than cloud.
2. Sd card uses no data to access your files, so does not eat up your data plan = saves you $$$$
3. Sd card files use less battery power than accessing files on the cloud.
I get that, I'm blessed with unlimited with Verizon but I always only upload to cloud while charging. If anyone is interested in true unlimited data with Verizon, I have an extra line available. I'll only charge 80 a month

Get over it. SD cards are going away.
That's the great thing about Android! Choice. Different strokes for different folks. There will be a phone out there that suits you. Find it and embrace it! ?

Well hard to say, as it has cpu that is newer than last years phone, also has better cameras than phones from last year, and software you can't compare to those phones either. And when compares to phones this year, it's kinda the same. I agree it is overpriced, but they are doing it because they can. If you want the best android experience available, there is only one phone. If you don't want to pay that much then there are great alternatives.
Waterproof - Owned S7 and Note, never seemed to EVER need it unless I was showing someone
Wireless charging - have a stand and still use the cable 90% of the time since it's faster
SD Card - I could see this one as a big point, but most people I know never fill up their phones and the ones who do could easily clear up half of it and improve performance by deleting unused apps and cleaning up the gallery, plus with 120 gigs + unlimited cloud I'm goooood
Gimmicks have made people wanting stuff they use maybe once every 4 months. "I can't have it therefore I need it"
IMO Software performance / day to day use > everything else .
Note 7 is a beast phone but I could honestly say at least once a day I get caught in huge lag spikes when trying open snapchat for a quick photo or even the camera app.
Sacrificing gimmicks for day to day use is worth it 100%

I gave you what you want, sorry. Make the whole display bigger, maybe that will work. Or just open the shade if you need a specific percentage.

Obligatory "What about the Pixel 3?" Thread

I am on a Galaxy S7 and am considering an upgrade to the S9.
At this point the obvious question for me to consider is how it compares to the Pixel 3? Curious if any S9 owners have tried the Pixel 3 for comparison yet?
I love the look of the Galaxy S9 but I have noticed that over time my older Galaxy definitely started to lag more, with battery life deterioration and a lot of "OS Usage" drain going on in the background.
While I dont love the look of the Pixel 3, I have heard that this is where Pixels are strongest: more efficient battery and snappier performance due to pure OS experience.
I know they are new, but if anyone has experiences with both of these great phones, I would love any perspectives!
Going by the problems of the Pixel 3 already, I'd go with the S9.
Bad speakers, camera not saving pictures, very scratch/mark prone rear glass, memory management issues, dropped calls...Pixel 3 isn't a good phone.
I got so pissed off with my multiple pixel 2s that I traded for an S9. I don't trust their quality control at all.
Just need to follow a couple of Android twitter accounts to see just how many bugs the Pixels have, the P2 was full of them and the P3 is following in it's footsteps, even the same bugs from the P2 are in the P3
Would not touch them
Pixel 3 line seems like a problem waiting to happen, and we are hearing about those every day.
The Galaxy s9 Plus is a fantastic phone with so much more then the Pixel 3 XL
You get the full fledged Samsung Super AMOLED panel screen that is an amazing display! Yes Pixel 3 XL uses a Samsung, but It's pretty obviously a lower level panel just by the blue hue we see at an angle view. You do not see that on the s9
Great duel cameras that got an extremely good score at DxOMark, for a reason, it's a top end camera.
SD Card Slot
Headphone Jack
Stereo Speakers
Basically water proof
Wireless charging at 10w on all compatible QI 10w stations, not just the $80 google rip-off charger.
(what, it does a picture screen saver and listens to you? Pfffft!!)
Now, s9 weakness and what to do:
software can be slow, don't use the launcher, get Nova Launcher Prime, turn off auto bixby, use bxActions to remap the button, and Package Disabler Pro + to remove any bloatware left, but I'm telling you most the stuff can be removed and or disabled already. All no root!
DEX is on board and now available though a $19 adapter from Amazon, not that you'll use it but it is pretty nice for at home.
Now what I believe is the biggest and most troubling issue is the pixel's only 4GB's of RAM. That's just not enough!
On my s9 Plus, I run music "Deezer" in the background, going to the duel Bluetooth speakers, while using all my Social Media apps, Instagram, twitter, FB(in browser) Messenger(DISA) and play Lineage 2 Revolution! I toggle back and forth and even keep online in the game.
Pixel just Aint gonna do that!
Oh, and that reminds me, a good question for anyone that has the pix3XL have they set up the duel Bluetooth Speaker connection yet?
I don't mean some third party like JBL, which works okay, but the actual OS that connects to duel BT speakers! Yes Samsung did it!
I really can't stress to you or anyone enough, how much better the Samsung hardware and experience is over this idea that pure is best.
Why be a beta tester up to the point we all get the new Android OS anyways?

Is the Pixel 2 XL still worth it ?

Hey guys, I was a Pixel XL user during the past one and a half year until my phone got bricked by itself (without an apparent reason) and I'm currently looking to get a new phone. So as mentioned in the title, I'm wondering if it is worth it to get a Pixel 2 XL right now and I would really like to get the opinion of users that have been using the phone for a while.
I have to admit that I was not really fully satisfied with my Pixel XL especially in terms of durability. The battery life became really bad after the first year and I was getting overheating issues especially during summer, not to mention the built quality which was far inferior to other phones that I owned during the same period such as the iPhone 7 plus and the Galaxy S7 edge. The only good side compared to those two phones was the camera and the stock android experience and updates.
I would like to know from you guys if the Pixel 2 XL is still a good phone in 2019, how did it age ? what about battery life ? the screen ? overheat ?
I'm actually really confused between getting a Pixel 2 XL (I can't stand the notch on the 3) or waiting for the Galaxy S10.

I have the Pixel 2XL for now 2 months. It's a panda version, the best version with the orange power button it's look so cool.
I had a Nexus 6P during 2 years before the battery life goes down (the nexus 6p's battery symptoms) 90% to 0% in 1sc and a reload time of 30sc from 0 to 100%, and it's not a joke.
I had the choice between a Pixel 3XL or the Pixel 2XL. The 3 is and still expensive but the noth is not a issue for me. But after some weeks some issue appears on the 3XL and at the same time I could have -50% on a Panda version of the Pixel 2XL with a fabric case. My choice was done.
-Great battery life (before the january patch, thx google:crying I was between 7-8h of SOT, now with the january's patch is more like 5-6h.
- Still smooth
-Great camera but it has more noise than the Nexus 6p camera.
-Excellent screen, no burn issue and no blue effect. If you don't pass your time at full brightness, it should be good.
-No overheat (no game installed)
It's an excellent phone in 2019. Even 3 years old, my old and venerable 6P still smooth like the first day.
Its worth it only if you get it cheaper .. I came to Pixel 2 Xl after using many phones .. It has only three pro for me 1) stock speedy software and 2) camera which is excellent( best would be overstatement ) 3) battery is good( 6-7 hour screen on time )
If talk about negatives then
1) Speaker is ok but call quality from ear piece and mic is average ..I struggle to hear other side in noisy environment especially when using WhatsApp
2) limited storage 64GB and others devices with same price often have 128GB and some even support SD card
3) Design is boring
4) Display is bright only when you drag slider to 70/80 percent and even some midrange phone have more bright display than pixel 2 xl
5) get warm when using phone after hotspot is active
Its good device but far from perfect
If your avoiding the notch of the pixel 3xl then if go with the pixel 2 xl till they get ride of the notch.
What I'm waiting for but checkout
Check this out see what you think though see what everything is worth to you.

Htc use to be the phone for me but the Nexus and pixel since they gone dual speaker is the best I've come across. Now wish they would add a ir blaster for those moments I can't find the TV/audio remote

Boring design ? What color did you have?
Thank you for your advices guys ! I'm sure the Galaxy S10 will be a much better phone in terms of hardware and design but I really got used to the google software especially the camera and google photos with the unlimited storage option. Maybe I should wait until the S10 announcement...

Reason i come back to pixel is because of software and updates..this fludity of software is missing in samsung and even there new software one UI is laggy and i have used all samsumg devices from S7 to S9
If we put pixel software in samsung hardware then that would be excellent device
Sadly pixel always have many basic issues about call quality/display/mic/speaker crackling etc even pixel 3 and 3 xl has some issues..dont know why google dont pay attention to basic functionality when charge premium prices
I came back to the 2 XL from the 3 XL. This is a really good device.

Yeah, the Pixel 2xl is worth it if you want to save some money. Perfect for those that don't mind not having all the extra features + latest specs and just want a good all-around phone with timely updates, smooth software and great camera. Really good phone if you can get one without any screen issues.

I've had my Pixel 2 XL since it came out. I've been pretty happy with it.
I like the design, build quality and materials. I think it's much better than the Pixel 3 XL because of the metal back instead of glass and no stupid notch.
Many people have complained about the screen. The screen isn't perfect. It does have a slight blue tint at extreme angles and there is some black crush and black smear at the lowest brightness. However, since I don't use my phone at extreme angles or at the lowest brightness I don't noticed those "issues". When it comes to color I actually prefer the Pixel 2 XL to the Pixel 3 XL. The Pixel 2 XL with "Boosted" color mode looks very life-like but with the Pixel 3 XL it didn't matter what color mode I tried it was still oversaturated.
Camera is fantastic.
Speakers are ok but not great but I don't use the speakers much so I don't care much.
The battery life of my Pixel 2 XL was stellar for the first 3 months but then I had 3 consecutive months of drops in battery life because of updates. Add to that the phone is now 15 months old and now the battery life is just ok. When it was brand new I got as good as 9 hours of screen on time doing basic things like browsing, Facebook, texting, email, etc on wifi most of the time with ~20 brightness with no gaming, Bluetooth, camera, etc and I could go like 40 hours off the charger with that usage. Now, the same kind of usage gets me maybe 6 hours screen on time over a period of maybe 18 hours. Not terrible but not great. On days where I'll be using it heavily(about 20% of my days) with mostly mobile data, taking pictures, streaming over Bluetooth, higher screen brightness (for use in bright sun), YouTube/Netflix, GPS, etc I have to take a battery pack with me which sucks and wasn't necessary for the first 3-5 months.
I did have an issue with the 3.5mm adapter and stock charger not working but it was a software issue that seems to be resolved now.
My only complaint now is the Bluetooth metadata bug that's been a problem since updating to Pie. The February update should be out tomorrow so I'm hoping maybe it will include a fix for that bug.
Overall pretty happy. Still not worth the insane price but no phone is.

Same here just purchased a brand new 2 XL after having a 3 XL. Actually like the 2 much better. Ended up with Fi promotion and trade-in getting it for $300. Hard to beat, especially when you get a 2 year warranty and two more Android versions directly from Google. Basically means I will probably get a 3 or 4 XL in eighteen months or so for free.
I had a extended sting with the OnePlus and initially that phone had it all. Performance, battery life, awesome gestures. Slowly little things like
1) annoying reoptimization of apps
2) missing very important alerts (home alarm notifications) because of the optimization
3) Lack of response by OnePlus regarding global issues related to
4) TuneIn radio app consistently does not start upon launch due to some connection issue (probably caused by aggressive doze). Persisted even after a factory reset and appears to be a global issue.
5) Lack of response from OnePlus regarding this issue as well.
I went back to my pixel xl 2 and the inefficiency of screen bothered me a bit coming from the OnePlus but since I installed OnePlus gestures (working a lot better than my 1st go round with the app) and I've gotten over that issue
Also i'm enjoying having
1) Always on Display back
2) Phone screen calling to give telemarkerters a taste of their own medicine
3) Better Camera especially with the night sight
4) Faster security updates
5) Faster access to the phone via physical finger print scanner
What is it with all those stories of pixel bricking itself randomly.
This is scary, I've read dozen of those stories

Probably old news. Haven't read or heard such news

With the "boosted" mode, no problem for me
I had mine set to boosted but it still had the blue tint.
So have google fixed it?
I don't understand why people keep talking about the blue tint when the black crush is a much much more impactful problem.
