Speaker/Sound issues, anyone else? - Pixel C Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I received my pixel a couple days after they became available. Most of the time it sounds decent, I have been using it daily for work WebEx stuff etc... At times if I play music or a game the speakers sound like they are blown, other times no issues. Today I made a video call on Google Hangouts with the default ringtone and it sounded like the left speaker was shot. I played a couple music tracks to see if I could hear any problems and it sounded fine? Anyone else having this problem?
Zip file included with a wav sample of what I am hearing.

Just a quick update, I called Google support and they asked me to hard reset it (typical). They could hear it over the phone, and had me reboot in safe mode still the same issue (also typical). It's weird it only seems to happen sometimes. They also offered to replace the device, but I don't believe it's a hardware issue. Hoping to hear if anyone else is experiencing this.

[Q] Distorted sound at less than full volume

I've had my DHD since they came out last November and I've had no real issues with it in all that time. However, I've now got a hugely annoying issue with sound where all sound, ringtones, music etc, comes through distorted at max volume where before it was clear. The obvious suggestion is to turn the volume down but even two steps down from max. volume it still happens depending on the sound coming from the speaker. I don't know how else to describe it except perhaps tearing and that doesn't sound very accurate to what is happening.
I don't remember when this first started happening but I'm pretty sure it was a few months ago and I was using a Sense based ROM at the time. The issue got so bad that instead of playing distorted sound in Sense it would just cut out and all sound would stop for what seemed like two or three minutes. Switching to CM7 has prevented it cutting out but the distortion is still there so I don't think it's related to a specific ROM unless it's a volume boost that was done over all ROM builds. As anyone who owns a DHD will know the audio has always been a little on the quiet sound but the level I have the volume at now is below what I'm comfortable with.
Can anyone offer a suggestion on how to fix this audio issue? It's almost to the point now where I'm thinking of going back to stock and sending it in for repairs. Don't make me do that.. you know it's not a fun process.
I'm only replying to this in case anyone has similar issues so they can see my resolution. Unfortunately it's gotten worse, to the point that I lost all sound on all ROMs bar a few squeaks from the speaker. The in-call speaker worked fine and I could make calls with no issue but no notifications, alerts, alarms etc would sound on the external speaker.
I flashed back to stock Gingerbread and I've sent my phone off to HTC, via T-Mobile UK, to be repaired. I'm also hoping they fix the misaligned camera issue too. I'm a little worried because despite trying I could not get S-ON back before I took it in but it's using stock bootloader and an HTC RUU ROM. Anyway, I'm basically saying that it's a bad sign and will have to go in for repairs. Hopefully this will save anyone from wondering in the future if they get the same sort of issue.
I'm having the same problem.. I think.. if you are talking about the speaker that you make the phonecalls with.. not the "external" speaker.. that works fine..
it has a crackling sound with mine.
Sounds like the external speaker is busted. You already send it to repair, probably that's the only solutions.

[Q] Earspeaker broken by sweat?

Today, I did my cardio but had to take a call. During the conversation, however, the earspeaker started to pop a few times and then I did not hear anything anymore. I must say that I was sweating heavily and the call lasted about 20 min.
The phone works as usual except I do not have any sound when playing media (mp3, youtube). Ringtone for calls, ringtone selection and sms work (ring), whattsapp doesn't. Re-installing whattsapp and flashing the new aosp build did not help here.
Should a new earspeaker do the trick or is there more possibly broken hardware?
I was talking about the built-in speaker, not about some headphones.

Try taking the battery out and sticking it in rice. It probably won't help, but at this point it might be worth a try.
I think you have the exactly same issue as mine =[

I know this is an old thread, but I had the exact same thing happen to me today. I was working outside, and was sweating while I was talking on the phone. All of the sudden, I heard a slight pop, then nothing. My earpiece will not play any sound at all. I have to use speakerphone when I am talking on the phone.
Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm thinking that I might need to replace the speaker.
Thanks

Speaker goes to call speaker after single microphone use [HELP PLEASE]

So I've been browsing the forums trying to look for anyone with a similar issue but to no avail. Now I'm not sure if this issue pertains to CM9 but I've noticed that ever since I've flashed RC1 or a later nightly, every app that uses the microphone reverts the phone speaker to call speaker. This is highly irritating as I have to put my ear to the phone every time I want to hear say, music, notifications etc. I usually reset this by plugging in a pair of headphones and then taking it back out, however the problem still persists every time I use the mic. This does not happen during calls so that's fine.
I am quite certain that this isn't hardware related because it only happens after using the microphone through some app and resets itself using the headphone workaround or a reboot. Again, I don't know if this is a singled out issue or if it pertains to the phone or the latest CM9 ROM.
Any help would be appreciated.
So after updating to RC2 and then again to the latest Nightly (20120802) I still have no luck with my loud speaker and my call speaker. To test this I usually use the Tune Me app and mess around with it and record some things but after using the app, instead of playing through the loud speaker like its supposed to, it plays audio through the call speaker.
Also, when I previewed CM10 and was playing around with Google Now with voice the same thing occurred. I don't know if there's a conflicting issue with some apps I've installed or something that installing the ROM did but any form of support would be appreciated.
Thanks.

[Q] Popping noise from speaker

When I was listening to music earlier and watching YouTube, I heard a pop noise come from my speaker a couple times... My volume was only at half, so I don't know what the problem is. Does it sound like a hardware problem, and should I exchange my phone?
Also seems to happen sometimes when I start a song with Google Play Music and turn on the volume from silent
My G3 also makes popping noises and sound quality in general is pretty bad compared to most other phones I've had. I wonder if this is a known problem and if they have an easy fix.
I've noticed that as well. During a call I noticed that the earpiece speaker does not sounds good at all. It sounds like there might be something loose inside of the phone. Anyone else having bad phone call speaker quality?
Same here with the earpiece speaker. It was really frustrating. Strange was the fact that the problem was gone when I removed the back cover Also after HR the problem has been gone for a couple of days.
I had to get my money back for the device.

Pixel XL - No sound from speakers

Alright guys, I've got a problem I haven't quite dealt with before:
I've got no sound coming from my "external" phone speakers. The in-ear speaker works fine, and so does the mic. That means I can take phone calls just fine. Listening to Whatsapp voice messages is a challenge because Whatsapp uses the speakers which means the message plays with no sound, that is until I hold the phone to my face and the prox switch tells the app to play through the ear speaker. No YouTube videos or Snapchat sounds.
I looked around the forums and such but didn't find anything. I've checked all the system settings I know to check, but nothing I can find is "muting" the sound. My apps list is fairly standard. Stock rom and kernel, unlocked since day 1 but without even a recovery installed. Basically a factory phone.
What are you guys thinking? I'm happy to try basically anything. Even thinking of slapping a ROM into this beast to see what happens, although I doubt there's too much development going on for a 2yo phone...
Cheers!
Update:
I've got intermittent sound. I haven't opened the phone and have no reason to think water ingress could be the problem, but I can't think of a reason that the speakers would work intermittently. Sounds more like a hardware problem than a software problem to me. Anyone else?
It also happened to me except I didn't have any sound coming from both speaker and the earpiece. Not sure what happened though.

Well it only has one speaker. As for the others most likely hardware related.

Weirdly, I'm stuck in unreliable-sound limbo. I get sound most of the time, but speaker sound disappears occasionally with no predictability that I've found. Interestingly, If I mash or smack the bottom of the phone phone screen by the speakers, sometimes sound will come back on briefly or entirely. Weird, huh? Not sure what could be causing a connection problem. Maybe I'll open up the phone eventually and find out.
