Multi-User Account Notifications - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a G4 I purchased for my child. I'd like to keep myself as the "Owner" of the phone, but have my child be the other account on the phone. Obviously they'll be using the phone 99% of the time. I just want to be able to control some settings on the phone through the Owner account but have them use the phone as a normal kid would.
I've run into a problem though where they can receive their text/MMS messages but they don't get notified when the messages arrive. If they open up the messenger app there will be new message indicators in there (the little red circle by someones name with # of messages received inside of it), but they just don't get the message vibrate/alert and don't see the notification in the notification bar.
Is there a way to remedy this? I've set everything in the Owner's account I could think of that might be the culprit. I get the notifications while the owner account is logged in.
(this is on an international version purchased from Amazon, using a T-Mobile SIM)

Text Message every time I get Voice Mail

On my unlocked Dash I get a text message everytime I get a voice mail, does anyone know how to turn this off? I get about 20 VM's per day so you can see how this would bother me.. I hate getting a Text Message for every Voice Mail.
Please Help or I may end up switching back to my Blackberry which I don't want to do..
Thanks
G
Thats more of the telco problem, not the phones.
I never had this problem before when I was using my blackberry? Only since I switched phones to my unlocked Dash do I get the text message for voice mail.

It's something related to your carrier, not the phone. The phone isn't sending itself a text message. Maybe the Blackberry receives a SMS notification of voicemail that is handled differently, and your Dash is receiving it as a text message... Have you signed up for Blackberry service with your carrier? Have you updated your account to non-Blackberry service? Who's your carrier? Have you contacted them at all about this?
I am using Rogers in Canada. I have a blackberry account as I am using BB Connect since my company won't allow us to connect to the exchange server directly.
I have talked to Rogers and they said it have to be the phone. We I get a VM, i get the little VM message at the top of my home screen so that is working it is just the darn text message that bothers me..
just double check.. is it a text mesage that goes into your Inbox, or just a notification bubble?
Anyway, if it is a text, a quick and dirty way to solve is temp is to have a SMS blocker in place, to filter out these messages.
Hey cool so is that is piece of software SMS Blocker? if it works like email filtering that would work.. Where can I find a SMS Blocker or is a function of the phone?
Thanks great idea!!
The reason you get a text everytime you get a new voicemail is because your "unlocked" phone does not support the the MWI ( message waiting indicator) that your mobile provider uses. I have T-mobile and they use the reel to reel icon that pops up on the top of the screen when you get a new voicemail. If you have an unlocked phone it may not support the icon your providers phones use.
I've had numerous phones with this company(by choice). I am currently using an unlocked phone that was configured for another carrier's network, some of the features do not work the same, including the Message Waiting Indicator. The goods new is you can probably stop this by having your mobile company take the Message Waiting Indicator off all together. But the Bad news is, then of course you will not be notified when you get a new voicemail.
It's a feature of the Rogers network. I have it on my account too. Still debating whether I like it or not though. I think it's part of the "WhoCalled" feature they have, but I'm not sure. It's definitely part of your Rogers service plan though.
Temp Fix for Rogers network SMS after VM
Hi, I had the same problem. It was really getting to me. Now using phone guard 1.09
Works well.
After download, DONT fill in the country code, or area code screen, just leave blank.(or you will not recieve calls, they will be send to vm, ????not sure why)
On the block screen, fill in ( [email protected] ) {for rogers} in the tel sms #, Name it what ever you want.
No more text after vm.
Later
p.s. the program runs in the back ground. Uses the least mem though.

Who sent me this text message?

It arrived with "Natwest" as the sender, but who is "Natwest"? Yes, I know it's a bank, but why can't I see the number it was sent from? It's not in my contact list. Unlike my older phones I don't seem to be able to get a `properties` view showing sender, date etc. Is this something I need another app for?
Hold your finger on the text, a box pops up with the option to view the message details.
thanks, but that still just showed 'natwest'. Surely it's come from a number?
I dont think this is a device related ... because there are many companies make deals with Mobile Operators to send ad messages to the masses and only show the senderID, they dont even need a number to do that.
i say this because i have done such solution for my company, the messages go to the masses and only senderID (company's name) appears, ... no number needed to do that (from a mobile operator point of view)

You have an account with them and they are making used of this volcano story for a bit of PR!
A friend who has an account with them got the same message.
I had a txt from 'Natwest' today but when I opened it it says it was from one of my FB contacts!! Had it twice now I just delete them...
You've never had a text from just a name before?!
Nope, all mine have just been a number unless in my address book...
nothing to worry about, that's simply how Natwest send out their balance texts when you;ve signed up to their text alerts service through Monilink.
It will show as Natwest on any phone. as has already been said, lots of companies and premium sms services come from just a name now, rather than a number.
I had a similar problem...
When I want to check balance (free minutes, SMS, etc...), i need to send SMS to number 1260, and after that i receive SMS message with usage details.
Problem is, that I receive 2 messages with same content.
One is from number 1260 which is my operator, and other is from my friend on Facebook (strange, he even didn't enter Mobile number on FB Profile).
Because of receiving same message over and over again, I had to delete my FB friend

I don't use the balance alerts - the txt is a public service announcement which I don't want
I got this message too. I have a Natwest account that is never used and has about a fiver in it, and I didn't even know they had my phone number!
Seems as though loads of Natwest customers got that text yesterday..
I have a mate who works for Monilink and he said that they were hammered with queries regarding it!

working app to forward sms to email ?

newly verizon galaxy nexus owner, in setting up my phone i was looking to for app that would automatically forward any text messages to an email (gmail) address. i had one working on my droid x before, but i noticed its no longer available in the market place.
has anyone found any that do work?
thank you...
I use SMS Backup to backup texts to my gmail account. It works pretty well. Even has a customizable "backup incoming messages X minutes" with one minute as an option. That would serve the purpose you want right?
it would be pretty close to what I need, I need to get to the default in box without a label. that way if I get a text message on my work phone, I can view the message on my personal phone or laptop on a weekend as it would show up as an email.
The program that I used to use was sms2gmail.

Badge count on messages and email completely wrong?

I like the badge count feature, a great improvement from android 7.x, but on my s9 the count is not representative of the actual number of unread messages and emails I have- for example, when I get a new text message, the badge count usually says 3, and 3 or 4 unread emails gives me a badge count of between 35 and 45!
Has anyone else had this issue, or any ideas how to fix it?
Thanks!
with the new Android version, the badge count reflects not only NEW notifications but older, unread ones also. That may be the issue.
Thanks for the reply- not that though, I have zero unread messages but it always shows 3 as a badge when I get a new one.
I guess I am the only one with this issue, so maybe a wipe and rebuild is in order
I have same problem on my S9+. Using textra, I have deleted all text messages and still when I get a new message, it shows 2 instead of 1. When using Signal app, the badge rarely if ever even shows any count. All other apps seem to be accurate.
Gmail randomly shows 999 for me..only sometimes
I have this issue, too. Currently ZERO unread messages, but when I get a new text, the counter says "5".
ive come from s7 edge with touchwiz from s8 installed previously and badges there worked as intended (unread count, not notification count).
when i recovered all apps and settings on my new s9 notifications worked the same as on the old phone (unread count). when i reset the device and recovered nothing but messages and contacts it started to act as for every1 (notification count).
Same goes for the samsung keyboard. for freshly set keyboard i dont seem to be able to enable swype typing, when i recover keyboard data from old phone recovery swype get "enabled" tho no option is present in settings
maby there is some hidden option to reenable unread badges again
Badge count incorrect
I've had the same problem with my new Galaxy S9. The badge icon will show 5 new messages, but there will only be 2 or it will show 2 new messages and there will only be 1. And, no there aren't any hidden unread messages. Hopefully, it will get corrected soon.

I have the same issue. It started after Telstra sent notification of change to my MessageBank. Message received was
"Your mobile is now Telstra Messaging capable. Your Telstra MessageBank voice mail will now be delivered to the RCS messaging inbox on your device. This feature requires your device to have the latest Android updates. For more information, including control of this feature browse Telstra. com/rcs"
That message was also sent as an audio (MMS)
Then the problems started.
The Message badge shows incorrect numbers - if I have one voicemail it can show as 3 or 4. It shows as 2 or 3 if it is a text message. If I press the Message badge it then shows 2 bubbles. The first grey bubble will say 101 Message Bank - the second white bubble is an audio MMS which can only be played with speaker on.
I have spoken with 8 people in Telstra, and they are still trying to fix. Have tried switching off the Rich Communications in Chat Settings. Have sent AUDIO OFF to 144 as per Telstra website.
The Audio messages are now stopped but badge still shows incorrect numbers and message now says
"You have received a new voicemail, please call 101."
I then have to go back to keypad and dial 101.
Previously I never dialled 101 just pressed the bubble and it took me directly to voicemail. As of 30 mins ago - Telstra still trying to find out what has changed.
If they figure it out I will post the instructions!
Also having this problem, though only noticed it after updating to Android P. For the record, I found a few suggestions online about wiping the data/cache for the app "BadgeProvider" and rebooting, but that hasn't helped.

I think I found a fix for SMS. It's annoying though, and might not be universal.
I'm using the stock android messaging app for texts instead of the Samsung one, so badge I'm seeing is over the stock messaging app. In that app is a menu item to "mark all read" which I've used a few times. But while there's no badge after, I can get one message and have a badge that says I have three.
Here's the deal: the Samsung messaging app, even if it isn't the default SMS app, has its own unread count and hides it.
So, if you open the *Samsung* messages app (and say cancel when it asks if you want to set it as your default texting app) it'll load up with a tab on the bottom for Conversations. If you wait a minute, a blue badge will appear next to it with a number. Scroll down and look for a similar badge on different conversations on the right side, and open each one. When there's no badge next to conversations anymore, exit the app.
That *should* do it. I've now gotten a single text message and been given a badge that says 1.
That worked for me - thanks!

firstly, i believe theyre called "badge" notifications
so, to make sure i understand, youre getting notifications for other stuff up in the top bar where the time, battery level and signal icons are located, correct? And youre wanting your text message badge notifications to show there as well?
Sorry for the mistakes,
I'm talking about badge on the app icon that either count notifications or unread messages.
In galaxy s9+ it counts notifications. Please guide if I can enable that for unread count i.e., the unread messages in whatsapp, gmail, twitter, etc.
Please let me know if need more charity. Happy to answer.
Thanks!

Messaging Notification help - Watch GT2

I'm wondering if anyone else has this same issue (or can test it).
I have the Watch GT2 and I am aware that it is only able to display notifications and not repsond. When I receive an SMS message I can see the notification and the message, however if the message is sent from another user and we both have Google RCS messaging enabled (Chat) then if the message is sent via this the notification isn't sent to the watch, only see I've got a message when I look on the phone screen.
Tried resetting the watch and the phone, repairing, checking the notification settings for the watch and app, etc but still nothing. I've raised a service ticket with Huawei but I don't think their UK team understand the issue.
Problem is still present in 2023
