[Q] SD Card Mounted Readonly Problem

Hi,
I keep getting this error - Mounted Readonly.... the sd card has an unexpected problem.
I installed the NextSense 3.0 Rom earlier, it worked fine for a while until i installed some apps to the sd card and then this error kept appearing.
I searched for solutions and every one involved removing apps, especially task killer. I have removed everything and the problem persists. Does anyone know what the problem is?
Failing that i'm going to wipe everything and start again, can anyone tell me how to correctly wipe and repartition everything? The instructions I found to partition are:
"Partition SD" SWAP=0, EXT2=512, FAT32=<remaining>
then "SD:ext2 to ext3"
any advice would be great, thanks!

Not sure it's all that helpful, but I had the same problem with ieftm's Official 2.2 ROM. The problem seemed to go away after I connected via USB to my pc and selected the 'Disk Drive' option on selection type on my Desire. After I disconnected, all was good.

I had this problem also. So i just popped the card in my computer and reformatted it with Gparted (in linux). If you don't use linux, i'm sure you could still format it in windows to fat32, but then you'll need to create an ext partition via the phone.

thanks for the reply, thats what happened when the problem first occured. I had it connected as a disk drive to copy some apps to the sd card and after disconnecting it the error started.
i tried it all again nothing helps

I also had the problem when I tested ieftm 2.2 rom, I changed to another, using recovery to format and partition the SD card, and everything went back to normal.

Any suggestions... Tried adb shell mount /sdcard and everthing else I've found...

Like i suggesetd before. Take the card out of the phone and plug it into an sdcard reader and format it that way.

I had that issue with some of the OTA ROMs apart from Pinky.
Just connect it to pc in disk drive mode and then remove safely in windows and then select charge only and remove cable. should be fine.

I had the same problem and I repaired it with Windows Vista Tools. Right click in the drive letter, Properties, Tools and Check Disk.
It solved some problems and it worked fine in the phone.

I had to format my whole card, the Win7 repair function doesn't work for me...

based on my experience, this issue occurs if you don't do reboot after the first boot. so after you install the rom, when it asks you to set the language, reboot your phone again. after that then complete the setup process.

This happened also to me with ieft ROM. I did a few reboots before this happens to me. I tried some workarounds that people say in this thread with no luck. When connecting the phone to the PC, phone did not give me the option to mount the sdcard like disk drive. In the end, I'm formatted sdcard, deleting ext3 partition.
I'm using ap2sd of Froyo with "Mod Install Location" app from market. And this works fine. I have no problems with space in internal memory.

the quickest way i solved this problem was to unmount the micro sd card under the SD & phone storage options then remount it again. thats how i solved it, hope it helps.

Sry, but this function is freezed, it doesn't work. At the moment only repartitioning is working for me. It seems that problem is because of Froyo implementation. Shame

better make a list of all possible ways to fix this prob i suppose, starting from easiest to hardest.

I have fixed this issue with the wipe of the dalvik cache! Try this!

I had the same issue. Copied everything across from the SD Card to a temp folder on my PC (Win 7 x64) then it came up with a copy error from one android.temp file, I skipped it, copied everything, formatted to FAT32 then copied everything back across and the issue was fixed.
Maybe something had locked that file and corrupted it perhaps?

This method worked for me too in Windows 7, was just wondering if it is a ROM problem or Froyo or APP. anyone could advise so we can avoid...?

When it happened to me it was a corrupted app. I had downloaded an app from a site and put it on my card. I don't think it downloaded all the way, and messed it up. But the way I fixed it was moving apps and formatting the card.

MicroSD card help

Hi everyone,
I have a 64gb sandisk microsd external card, in a att galaxy s3 and it appears to be acting very strange.
i can't add or delete anything from it, i put it in my brothers galaxy s2 to format it (my s3 not having the option(which is strange)) and it let me format it, but when it remounts its at the exact same place, with 42.2gb free storage space, which is what it was at before i formatted it, i did it a few times same thing.
if i manually try to delete things from the card through my phone or computer they either hang or they do delete then upon reboot all the files are back. I hope its not corrupted but it sounds like it is. i've used a few apps like sd tools which runs speed tests, and i get about 130mb write speed a second and 5000mb read speed a second which sounds like it should be able to read and write things but unfortunately it just won't

Take the SD card and use a custom recovery to wipe it clean. That might help

Okay, i used twrp, i'm updated to latest version, i went to wipe advanced, then microsd card says succesfull but its very short. when i reboot the storage is still the same. can't add or remove files still.

Hmm. You might have to try a double format in TWRP, then when you load up the System use the system's format tool. (i.e. Storage --> Wipe SD Card). If that doesn't work, you might need to find someone with a microsd to USB jig or something of the sort and use a computer to format it.

yeah thanks for the support, tried a number of things in twrp but to no avail. i went out and bought another 64gb microsd card and put it in my phone, works perfectly. but still i'm trying to get the other card working. the new card came with an adapter so i've been trying to format it in my computer. i've used windows format, i do the long one, it gets all the way to the end looks like its complete then says unable to format. and all teh data is still there, i've also tried guiformat by ridgecrop, says success but still all the information is still there.
i don't know if this means the card is corrupt i'd always assumed i'd get corruption error messages.
is there a program i can use to scan the card for errors or corruption?

[Q] V510 lollipop sd card problem

I just upgraded my gpe g pad to lollipop and am having SD card problems. My 64gb card worked perfectly with kk with the SD fix. In lollipop under settings, my card is listed correctly but when using solid Explorer or root explorer, the card is not listed when the doc viewer is displayed to give the program permission. I tried with an old 16mb card and that is listed. Was hoping lollipop fixed SD issues but doesn't seem like it. Does anyone have a solution or the same problem? I tried it with two 64gb cards both formatted exfat.

Thanks. It works with fat32. Shame exfat isn't supported on larger sized cards

Actually, I think the problem is because you upgraded the bootloader. Once you update the bootloader, the sdcard needs to be reformatted. Exfat might even actually still work too if the sdcard just reformatted again. I haven't tried to reformat using exfat after updating the bootloader.

Why would you need to reformat with a different boot loader?
Anyway, I had no problems switching back and forth from KitKat to lollipop using fat32. Exfat is poorly supported. Like ntfs, there are constraints that make it more of an issue than its worth.
Why ext2 isn't supported out of the box is beyond me.

I think the bootloader affects how the files are written to the partitions, including the sdcard. If you think about when everyone said the problems started, it was when 4.4.2 was released.
I tried an experiment. I had cm11 with 20B bootloader installed. It was fine for a week. I then only updated my bootloader to 20D and within a day it started to randomly reboot.
I then kept the 20D firmware and reinstalled cm11 and reformatted my sdcard. After that, the device was fine again. But, the problem with rebooting still happened even after reinstalling cm11 until I reformatted the sdcard while using the new bootloader.
When we update the bootloader, we directly reboot into the recovery to reinstall the operating system. This formats everything except the sdcard. This is why the problems are happening with the sdcard, because it's the only thing not being formatted over.

Wild. You wouldn't think it would matter. You could test this by taking out the sdcard before upgrading if it is a read problem with the card. I'm more inclined to think it's a problem with the initial read by cyanogenmod on a card with used space. Does this happen on stock as well?
The OP has the 510 by the way. But this is very interesting.

Yes, this happens with all ROMs AFAIK. The ROM and kernel made no difference.
Edit: even updating the ROM to lollipop from KitKat did not fix the crashing. Only after reformatting the sdcard and copying the data back onto the sdcard stopped the crashing.

Does it happen when formatted fat32?
I could see only a few reasons that are even possible. One being that when you replace the boot loader it wipes the internal sdcard, and the ext sdcard but because our ext sdcard is separate from the device, and not just a separate partition, it can't remove the files and marks it as defective.
If you mount it manually using a terminal does it work?
Mount /storage/sdcard1 (as root)
And third, that it is a glitch in exfat, where something isn't getting passed correctly.
Sounds more like a bug than a security feature, but could also be that to keep something malicious from running.

Yes, the problem still happens when the sdcard is formatted as fat32. Simply changing the bootloader will still trigger the problem.
For testing purposes, I made separate installers for 20B and 20D bootloaders that don't touch any other partitions. After I install a new bootloader, I reboot into the recovery again to load the new firmware and then install my ROM (which formats the system partition during normal upgrade procedure).

I never had access to my microSd card.
I thought it was a stock Rom problem, so I waited until root, maybe with another rom, the problem would disappear.
Sadly, no.
The thing is, a 200 MB partition always mounts as my SD card.
I don't have a clue on how to solve it.
Any suggestions?

before you answer elephone p8000, i mean which version as in which 4g bands does it have access to? normal or version b?
is the phone working operation?
what current rom are you on?
is your phone ever recognised by the computer when you switch it on while connected to the usb and pc as an mtk preloader device?
my suggestion would be to re use an official rom update with a scatter file method. this should repartition your device properly.
this is why its super imoprtant to know which version you are on.

I'm quite positive it's normal version, I live in Portugal, Europe.
Besides from the mentioned problem, the phone is working properly, is that what you mean with "is the phone working operation?"
Right now I'm on Eragon 9.5, before today, stock unrooted original rom.
Regarding usb cable connection:
I'm a Mac user, and the phone is recognized and i can use Android file transfer app on my mac while on android sys.
If I'm on recovery mode, i can't mount the "sd card" to my computer.

why don't you just format the sd card ? put the sd card in your pc and use MiniTool Partition Wizard Free Edition and delete every partition on the sd cad. and then create a new, FAT32 and if you want to have files biger then 4GB then exFAT, but then you need to flash this zip, to get it working right on phone (you need to use a custom rom, eragon or mine nexus, because of init.d)

The multiple partitions are on the MMC, not the SD. You misunderstood. The mmcblk1p1 mounts as the SD card. But it's a partition from the MMC. Mounts with or without a physical SD in the slot.

I think I'll try and investigate the scatter method. Don't have a clue, yet.
Seems like a fluked MMC partitioning somewhere in time.

you said you have a mac? i'm not sure you can use the flash tool for mediatek devices on that.
i only know the windows method and i know that works. i did it yesterday again.
can you get hold of a windows machine?
are you okay with flashing the december firmware on the device or do you need some guidance?

oh sorry, i misunderstood you. ok then you need to backup NVRAM. you can do it for example with TWRP. after that, just look here and copy the official rom files. this could solve your problem

Yesterday I used a web downloaded version of aparted app, and deleted the infamous partition. And after the reboot, my 64GB sd card finally appeared!
For now I think I won't go into the scatter process. Will keep the info for future research thou, thanks!

firstly, you are very brave for deleting a partition you saw and didn't know what it did. what if it was the bootloader and you kill it? was very risky.
secondly, you don't know how this efi partition appeared on your device, it just wouldn't let you use your sd card? sometimes on SD cards they have a partition from the factory for some bs software but you say yours was the internal storage.
this brings me onto the fact that your seller has flashed your phone with something that enabled this? you openly trust the seller that they haven't modified the device to collect personal information or anything? i mean i would be worried and would have flashed the scatter file method. again this is why i also say you are brave.
dr root has provided you with a method for non pc version which i didn't know existed.
it's your device at the end of the day and you can do whatever you want.

Lineage os no option to move apps to SD card

Hi all
I successfully updated to the latest nightly build 8/3/17 how ever I have no ability to move app data to my SD card. My sd card is seen under storage and I have files on it.
I also have twrp 3.0.2.0 but get a kernel is not seandroid enforcing error and can't charge whilst off. I have no loop issue the unit work's OK otherwise.
The lineage is rooted, I would welcome any advice.

Interesting if you boot into trwp can that see your sd card? So under storage the sd card isn't visible at all? Have you tried formatting it?

Yes, I can see it fine under TWRP. I thought maybe it couldn't recognize exFAT, so I formatted it to EXT4. But it's still not showing up at all.

That is weird, do you have another android peripheral that you could prospectively format the card in and try? Alternatively you could wipe and reinstall. I blew away the android internal storage and installed from my SD, just about everything works except the sd storage option. That's an issue storage and app wise so I may go back to marshmallow lineageos if I can't sort it.
Failing that back to stock lollipop should that fail.

I haven't tried it on my HTPC/Plex server yet, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. On stock Lollipop, I can see the card, but it's read only. Oh, I should have been clearer. That is weird you got me stumped, other than a rebuild I got nothing. Try the card in a mate's phone if possible better than wiping the unit first.
If that doesn't work I got nothing. Truth be said I'm no expert, I try my best.

Hi all
I updated the Lineageos ROM the AOSP I had no hardware issues or software issues on the OS. However please note that if you use this ROM for some reason you will lose the TWRP Recovery.
I installed the AOSP ROM 7.1.1 first, didn't reboot and then installed the Gapps file, upon reboot it stayed on the splashed screen, so I then booted into the standard recovery and wiped/factory reset the unit, all good since and it is running smoothly, just wanted you to let you know that the Lineage ROM isn't the only option.
I also had the options for the SD card and UI System tweak was also there, good luck. If anyone wants assistance I am happy to assist.

Hey mate I found an alternate fix and everything works, look at AOSP rom and let me know if you have any questions.

I have also a problem with the SD card. I have the newest build and the SD card is seen in the settings and also in file manager can read/write, but other apps somehow don't see it, I cannot set the camera to save photo to external storage, also in Google play music I cannot choose to store music to external card, the options are not there. On my Galaxy S5 also with Lineage it works perfectly. Secondly, in the settings I can only format the SD card as portable, not as internal, but that would not bother me if the apps would see the card and I could use it as storage.

Have the same problem on my SM-P605 - have had problem since at least the 20170713 nightly build when I started using LineageOS (am currently running 20170830 nightly).

I think I found a solution your problem. Well, it worked for me.
Firstly I backed up my SDCARD
Then went to Settings, Storage Settings tabbed on SD card and tab on options [three dotted things].
Formatted my sd card as internal, when I went back to my applications there was an option to move them to external.
[WARNING]One problem is that if you format it as internal it will not show as different storage systems on your pc WILL SHOW AS SHARED STORAGE!!!!

Thanks for the suggestion - but didn't work.
When I click the three-dotted-things only option I see is (under Storage settings) is "Format". I format the card - but still cannot move apps to it or set as camera location.

I did not find a solution. For other reasons I have returned to the stock OS. Now I don't use this tablet anymore.

Same here... i formated internal but nothing changed. file manager seeing sd card but app can't see and can't save downloaded contents to sd card.. camera, udemy, vs... cant use sdcard

I can access the information on the card, but cannot use it as a SD card (with the camera or by moving apps to it).

I just got it running on Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition (LTE).

I did the 50:50 format on my 200GB SD card.
