Not sure, it kinda makes sense though.

im kinda excited about this Android 6. Korean buddies are the 1st lucky guys who already received M 6.0.1 for their S6 2 days ago.
M is reported to have better performance, none (or less) ram leaked, longer battery life and, one of the most importance for me, much faster finger scan response.

I doubt it, its usually 1 month after next iteration of the phone is released (S7)

Lol this post is
How is it "confirmed" if some dumb/clueless rep guesstimated it's release date?? No, just no guy... SMH

Leaked documentation that has been covered at a number of sites (here is the first that I saw http://www.mobipicker.com/galaxy-s6-s6-edge-s6-edge-s5-note5-note-4-android-marshmallow-update/ ) shows that the release will be going out to carriers between February and April, so this isn't that unrealistic. And it has already rolled out in Korea.
The unknown part about this is how long Sprint will take to have this out via OTA. If they are already working on a build and are just waiting for a final update, this could be spot on.

I dont want to wait till march/april...

If we could just make a kernel, we can start porting it

Does Sprint not do RDF files for their builds anymore? Haven't seen anything for ages and neither OJ7 nor OL1 had one. It was so nice in the past to see them actively working on things that way.

Mid Feb now. =)

I have never understood why it is considered bad form on XDA to rush a developer to get a new ROM out; but the very same people expect Sprint to rush out an update to millions of people across multiple countries.

All rumors, but....
Smaller screen than the LG G4.
No removable battery.
I guess the Magic Slot is a feature, if someone knows what it will really do.

My only experience with LG phones is limited. I bought one (G4, I think) for my daughter and it was not a very good phone.
If you are going to get an LG phone, why not a Nexus?

The fundamental difference in your statement is that XDA devs do it on their own time for free. Carriers, not just Sprint, make millions off their customers. So they should be held to a much higher standard. However in my opinion, Sprint, compared to other carriers, has done a good job at keeping updated. I would say no worse than any other carrier. I mean look at the mm update on the Nexus 6. Every carrier got the ota update months before ATT finally put it out. And that was on a Nexus [emoji33]

Multiscreen update COMING SOON

According to gotta be mobile an update for the American version of the note 2 IS going to be ready soon and shortly after that pushed out to Carriers for OTA release
multiscreen IS part of this update, so it appears we should have it in several weeks!
heres the article itself check it out

Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
The article is about the original Note. The only place I see the Note 2 mentioned is in the title.
A few weeks so it coincides with the Verizon release, roughly, huh? This is excellent news!
Oh wait..this update is for the original Note. Still, makes me hopeful. Maybe if they push it out for the s3 and OG Note around that time..we will get it too.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
I don't see why they had to omit the feature in the first place. Like theres a processor difference or something. Glad to see it coming, but it should have been there in the first place.
Hop some one can in port a international version soon or. Or can cm10
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
It's not so much it was omitted on purpose, but that Samsung has to work with the carriers so they can add their bloatware. This most likely caused Samsung to send an earlier version of the Touchwiz'd Android so that the carriers have enough time to put in their software and tweaks and still release the phones in a timely fashion. The US variants were already released a month after the international version. We probably wouldn't have the US Note II for T-Mobile today had Samsung taken more time to get multi-window working before submitting the software to the carriers to do their thing.

That's the most logical explanation I've read thanks, so are you confident that when it is enabled for AT&T I'm hearing soon that T-Mobile will not be left behind?
I also heard that Wi-Fi will be improved along with adding the spit-screen multi-tasking multi-view, does that suggest the Wi-Fi is currently unreliable?
Also what ever happened to Samsung Galaxy Note II Screen Recorder function?
I'd like to stop having to seriously consider the international models..Thnx

Why would you think that when every other major carrier is likely getting it this month like the international Note2 has on 4.1 (before a 4.2 update that could take months for any US Note2)?
Could we get T-Mobile to comment on being competitive on this considering Sprint is releasing it already & AT&T & Verizon are expected to have it by Nov 27th?

Google has to upgrade s3

AS a user and developer for the andriod device and google has announce that it won't update the s3 on U.S variant because it has a duo core chip ...and to tell you the truth I think it's bullocks , now how come apple update there software for their phones and I'm talking about 3GS til iphone 5 this what lack in andriod , I understand companies want to sell there " new blah blah phone, but its all about marketing... i am really disappointed with the news but if you dont believe me take a look at the link http://legalpronews.findlaw.com/article/0ghn3QJeCYajg?q=Android
it would be samsungs choice not googles...
1. Samsung and each of the US carriers, NOT Google provide the updates to the GSIII.
2. Google only provides updates to the Nexus line.
3. That is the same type of speculative / rumor stuff that came out about the single-core devices when ICS and JB both came out, just like the pre-release rumor about GB when it came out... no phones under either 756 MB or 1GB of RAM and/or under 4 inch screen would be able to run it. my wife's and my daughter's MT3G-S's both ran it just fine with only 600 MHz and 512 MB of RAM.
simply put just the same old b.s. rumors flying around before Google themselves have even unveiled the new OS... it's just some blogger shooting off their mouth trying to get people to jump to the "new hotness" so they don't get left behind.
Samsung nor Google nor the carriers "NEED" do nothing..
While it's true that there are those phone users, such as ourselves, that are tech savvy and want the latest software refresh, look at the shear number of shipped phones! Far in excess of all the registered users on any tech forum added all together.
This means that the average S3 owner only cares that the phone does exactly what was advertised at the time of their purchase and remains stable in operation. S3 has already achieved this, so the "need" is not there. Tens of millions of S3 owners will continue on unaware or even care about that "update".
Now you could argue that we "want" the updates, especially 4.2.2 with premium suite and also Key Lime Pie (5.0). But that argument needs to include how this is financially "beneficial" to Samsung and the carriers that sell their phones.
I agree, I really, really, really want Key Lime Pie along with new S4 type features in the premium suite. Please, pretty please give it to me. I'll then show off this capability and how you care for your customers Samsung. Perhaps enough new purchases of even the older S3 will occur to cover the cost of the new development/testing? So please?
But to demand it as a NEED, meh!
Besides, anything that happens on another Galaxy variant is normally ported to other variants. Like Verizon base sporting multi window.

Well Supposely samsung will update to 4.2.2 with some of the features of the s4 in May or June. I seriously doubt that as I imagine samsung will think it will hurt sales of the s4, a newer phone with the same firmware of the s3. A. It might come late summer or more waiting, at this point they should just stop 4.1.2

I thought that in order to brand their devices as Google devices (has stock play store access), manufactures have to keep their devices up to date for at least 18 months from the date of release?
If that's true then we should get updates until at least November 2013.

It's not like these manufacturers aren't making loot on android. Google should put the screws to them and hold them to the update alliance agreement or pull their Google device status. Uphold the quality of the platform or lose play store (all gapps for that matter). Think the s3 would be so wildly popular with no gapps? Plain and simple, if they want to make money on android, they should be held to its release schedule.

I don't think Google cares as much how slow these other manufacturers are delivering updates. If they did they would stop releasing little updates every few months and just prep a big one for phones to catch up, and frankly they do sell phones. Their selling point with the nexus devices is you buy a nexus and you'll get all the goodies earlier than everyone else. Bottom line though most consumers don't care about updates I know several people with phones like the blaze still on GB and think is the best thing ever. We are a small community compare to the average regular users.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I'm not talking about little incremental updates. Google should hold manufactures to major version updates for at least 18 months after release. Google stated that it only intends to release one major version a year going forward. So that's one maybe two major updates depending on release date of the device. I don't think that's a lot to ask.

this is where the point is. I'm not saying that anyone should get the updates as rapidly as the nexus does... But i think that 6 months after an update release it's reasonable to believe it should be out for at least a manufacturer's flag ship phone... (and last gen flag ship if still under the 18mo mark)

Maybe it's just this will be the third time I have gone through this. First with the behold 2, was promised to us that we would get froyo, which never happened. Second with vibrant, which was promised gingerbread, which also never happened. After that I went through nexus s, nexus s4g then galaxy nexus. Gnex was a bad daddy phone that still can hang with the newest. I was on the fence whether to get nexus 4(which my wife has) or the note. I decided that the screen and pen were more important to me then having newest software. I knew 100% what I was getting into. In the past I have complained to tmobile, signed petitions, complained to samsux, with null results. You may call me a corporate sheep, while I call myself an educated consumer.

one scenario would be once samsung releases the final build -- cyanogenmod gets ahold of it and and puts together a tmobile port for it -- and they start charging for roms maybe. they are in business now to make money and their stable roms tend to be just that.. i'd pay a reasonable amount for a stable rom with all the bells and whistles. I said CM since they went public as a corp- other modders have great roms too

Doubt cm will port an OEM ROM, and especially now that they are technically a OEM. Their goal is to sell the cm experience. Now that they are a corporate they are now for profit. Now no one knows exactly how they are going to acneive that goal. Ads, teaming up with an OEM like Google does with lg and has done with Samsung and HTC. Maybe they will have their own app store. Maybe charge for the installer. Who knows

More like January or Feb, I'd say or maybe never...at least for the Sprint variant. It isn't in Sprint's interest to push updates unless the other carriers do. Of course Samsung wants to get these updates moving because they want the public to feel they'll be supported if they purchase a Samsung branded device but brand loyalty isn't in Sprints interests unless the brand is Sprint and that of course is usually maintained at the end of a very thin thread as it is.
As for the possibility of receiving the 4.3 update. I'm always excited about OTA updates because updates play a fairly big role in future versions of Android. The more updates there are the more well understood it is what the public wants/needs from future versions because of the broader spectrum of users providing feedback.
For my own personal device...I don't care. I run what I want on my device anyway regardless of whatever Samsung/Sprint/Google push. I don't give a rats ass about having a "pure" Android experience or being the first to get the latest version (no offense to the Nexus fans) either. I want my device dirty and nasty with a big moustache. I don't want be like one of those creeps that hangs around the strip clubs but never pays for a lap dance...I'm in the champaign room and let me tell you there is more going on in there than the song says. Why do you think I'm hanging around here? Trick it, brick it, fix it, trick it and brick it again...that's what it all about.

a million times, this.. love the removable battery and storage but not sure if it's worth the [email protected]!%
Yea don't really care because Google separated their core services from the operating system so most of the really great feature are now pushed through Google rather than being a part of a new os version.
Android updates aren't as feature rich anymore.

To the ones complaining who are you going to then? Unless its a Google phone it will be the same across all manufacturers. At least we have a date. Samsung actually announces all devices that will be upgraded at the same time unlike others like HTC who just tells u that their it phone of the moment will be upgraded while the rest get lost in forgotten land. Samsung actually has been the best non Google manufacturer with updates to their Galaxy line..

This, with htc, unless you have the latest and greatest device forget about an update.

I love how in this thread it's bunch of people complaining about how updates don't come fast enough and then when you look at the next thread in this section it's all about getting rid of the updater to stop those "pesky" notifications trying to get you to update... lol
They say December, but that's when they're submitting it to sprint. We'll actually get it Feb or Mar in 2014. Mark my words lol.

Pretty sure that you're missing the point.
The updates that we all are anxious for are system updates that ROM devs can work with, make better ROMs for us all. Definitely worth "complaining" about.
That other thread is about a fault where the phone thinks it needs a software update, but not really, or the update in question is actually not desirable for whatever reason.
Welcome to XDA.

I've been thinking long n hard about that, as an option. I do love my Note2, with the exception of the plastic, it's a badass device. But I don't actually use the pen as much as I thought I would. So taking a long look at the HTC Mega (?), and hoping that it makes it to the US... I allow myself a new phone every year, it being a hobby I indulge myself in, and I always buy outright, no ETF charges...

Nice. So I assume cpsc will announce official recall on Friday and out by Monday?

Only thing that's changed/fixed is the battery right? Same size?

Yes just the battery.
Now that the Feds are involved (CPSC), I will be shocked, and presently surprised, if they move this quickly. I dropped back to my developer edition of the Note 3 (custom ROM and custom kernel) to wait it out. Love the N7, even without an unlocked bootloader. My local corporate Verizon store has been very helpful. Not particularly worried about successfully trading in my N7 when the fixed ones are in stock, regardless of some "return date". Not sure if a local store manager, or someone higher up the food chain would want to be on the business end of a federal recall.

right, we are given the info and we update our customers with what we are given. web or not samsung has given us an estimated date in which they are going to be here, now this can be altered but the CSPC as stated by the other user earlier.
I just assisting with what I am given especially since I am a note user myself and would like to get down to getting room so I can have me some pure android.

As always, thanks for jumping in. Much appreciated for sharing what know.
The lack of coordination with the CPSC is also affecting carriers' ability to help with the recall. The WSJ reports that while Samsung has sent an unknown number of Note 7 units to mobile operators, they aren't allowed to distribute them until they receive approval from the CPSC.

If what the Verge is reporting is accurate - that is good and bad. It would mean that most likely Verizon stores have new notes already - bad news is they have to wait on the CPSC to release them - which could take who knows how long.

You and me both. I just switched to verizon and got the note 7 about 3 days before the recall was announced. Very disappointed with this situation.
Do you think they will be any cheaper now?
