jiayu S3 Plus [ MT6753 ] General Discussion - JiaYu S3 Guides, News, & Discussion

So let's discuss this wonderful device , equipped with MT6753 octa core
We know it owns the same body as his older ( and stronger ) brother Jiayu S3. ( this one equipped with the MT6752 )
Until we get a proper forum ,or TAG. ( if ever ... ) Let's talk a bit here ...
I'm sure this will be another good device from Jiayu
And will receive much love from the company and community
Feedback would be wonderful
Cheers

Great. I am sure here is going to happen some good stuff soon. Thanks for opening this thread

Good phone with not so great battery.
is my first jiayu and I will wait for the new model from the company.
The problem is I can not find the easy root option and some apps like paypal can not be installed.
A message appear "your device is not compatible with this version" .
I bought from bangood and I have the last ota 17-12-2015.
I want to try the latest german rom https://jiayu.de/forum/index.php?thread/459-s3-plus-ota-30-01-2016/ and root the phone but i can not find instructions.
I wrote for the problems i have here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65126215&postcount=7

There's a mega.nz link in the op of German board. You need to flash system and recovery of this version, before you are able to update.
The version from there is rooted already, and recovery got replaced by twrp

PS; Those bugs are already fixed on the Jiayu.de ROM

it is so simple?
After that I will have custom recovery root and the German rom ?

The bugfixed rom (with Playstore properly working,...) which you mentioned in your post is only available by jiayu otair update currently. This rom was created by German reseller (not jiayu China) for their customers. If you didn't buy the device at jiayu.de you can buy jiayu otair service to receive this and upcoming updates immediately.
If you don't want to buy it, you need to wait a while to receive public update.
The rom from mega.nz is already rooted with custom recovery
Gesendet von meinem JY-S3 mit Tapatalk

sory I did not understand correct.
There are 2 roms, one german and one official?
And there are 3 ways to get the german,
one if I install it from the mega upload, one if I install again something and then pay to get it immediately through ota and one if if wait to get it from officially a similar rom from jiayu?

The rom from mega.nz is the rom, initially shipped with jiayu.de devices. It is almost identical to the official chinese software, but rooted and with twrp recovery.
This software can be updated by ota app, and further updates also are going to be available through it. Current ota update has Playstore fixed, stagefright vulnerability closed and national roaming fixed in some countries.
Once there is a newer version available by ota app, the current rom is going to be available to public.
If you don't want to wait for this, and if you like to receive ota updates, you can get jiayu otair from Playstore. With it, you'll receive software updates the same way original German customers receive it (including the possibility to contact their official support in case something in the software isn't working properly).

the funny think is I bought this phone because I saw 5ghz band and especially because i read in a forum that jiauy have many many updates.
Now I have this great phone without apps from my banks/paypal/vodafone ets.
The official rom have now is from 17-12-2015.
Even the elephone with rubbish roms did not have problems with apps, I do not understand why jiayu left this phone with this kind of problems those months.

Pretty much and to recap :
The Jiayu Deutschland ( Germany ) , haves their own software team
And haves their own rom ( usually its always ahead on software updates / security / features , when compared to the stock Chinese ROM )
If you bought the device on Jiayu Germany, you'll have free access to these new software updates .
If you didn't bought from there, then you have two options :
1) Buy the Jiayu Germany OTA app, and that will grant you access to their software
( pretty much it'll give you a Germany customer "status" , hence, you'll be granted access to all their updates ,and more ,)
2) Or, you could simply wait a while, since Jiayu Deutschland will also release their own ROM to the community , but, only when there's a newer update .
i.e. : when OTA ROM version 1.1 is available, then version 1.0 will be release for all the community
When ROM version 1.2 will be available for OTA , then version 1.1 will be release for the community, and so one ...
This is free of course ... We came from the community, so, we care ...
Cheers

I've had elephone vowney for testing recently. Playstore crashes if you search an app with more than 6 letters... Don't tell me this is working better [emoji23]
Gesendet von meinem JY-S3 mit Tapatalk

I have the p8000 and I do not have problem with play store.
The problems is get in hot ..
I was thinking to buy vowney, thanks for sharing.
So what about new phones from jiayu?
is there a site to see the upcoming models?

Sorry, I don't know specs of upcoming devices yet. It's Chinese new year soon and everyone is on vacation...
Gesendet von meinem JY-S3 mit Tapatalk

I was thinking to install the initial release from the Germans but if the play store it is not fixed is it worth it?
And if tomorrow the official jiayu release a "good version I will install it through the custom recovery?

What you mean by official jiayu? China? They're still in new years vacation... You'd probably need to flash it by using flashtool... On s3 advanced no one ever wanted to go back to chinese software, after trying ours
Gesendet von meinem JY-S3 mit Tapatalk

yes but whats the reason to flash the phone to the german initial release if the problem with the play store is there?
Another think in Chinese jiayu is I can not find were is the support for our phone.
Maybe for other phones but for ours notging from support/last rom is there .
The problems with the elephone is similar, we have to install new custom rom to bypass them.
I feel disappointed generally for that my last purchases, 2 elephones and the jiayu.
I wiil give to jiayu another try if there is a new model with better battery / 4k recording / and no problems with play store but maybe I will go again to Huawei-one plus.

[Q] Region specific updates ?

Hi everyone,
I'm not that savvy when it comes to rooting, updates etc so please be patient
I'm in Canada and I wanted the SM-P605 which they don't sell here. I ordered one off of ebay from a New York vendor and it seems to be a unit that was imported from Hong Kong. I have not rooted the tablet. I have not received any software updates (I know the american units all received 2 or 3 updates, one of them bringing multi-user functionality.
Since I have not rooted, should have received any updates (OTA or through Kies ?) Will my tablet only receive updates destined for the Chinese market and if so does my tablet have to be physically over there to receive them ? I did connect my tablet through Kies and it says I am up to date but I don't think that I am. What about the 4.4 update that we will eventually receive ? Do you think I would receive that, and does it matter that I did not receive the previous ones ? Any help/advice would be appreciated
As far as I know the LTE version has not received a multiuser update. Only the Wifi version has received it. If you are worried about updates you could flash a US based stock rom via Odin. As I own the wifi version I cant tell you which one to flash but I'm sure someone here can tell you.

Thanks for the reply... I have no idea how to root as tempting as it sounds... I suppose I could read all the threads and try and learn, but I'm not sure if I am ready to risk bricking it. It cost me almost $950 CAD after taxes and import fees and the Square Trade warranty... I had read somewhere that flashing a rom from a different region could cause issues... but I really have no idea. :cyclops:
If the LTE model never received multi-user, I am totally fine with that... just concerned about previous and future updates that I should receive but won't because I am in the wrong region.

r1 - Custom ROM starter template - Mate 8 NXT-L29 B180

Ahead of my own MoDaCo Custom ROM for the Mate 8, which is coming soon, I've created a custom ROM starter template for anyone who wants to have a go. It's a bit different.
Basically, this ROM template will let you create your own custom ROM VERY easily. Easier than ever before. All you have to do is...
download my ROM template zip
make the changes to the system of your phone just as you'd like them for your custom ROM
run some commands on your device via ADB
add the resulting files to the template zip
That's it! No messaging around with install scripts, no rebuilding anything complex, just mod - and go!
Preparation
ONLY if you are completing the process for the first time, you need to set up a file on your microSD card - so launch and ADB shell and type the following commands...
Code:
touch /sdcard/exclude
echo app > /sdcard/exclude
echo priv-app >> /sdcard/exclude
ROM build
Once you have your system up and running how you want it, and you're ready to distribute it (just the system and cust dirs mind, it won't pull the data dir, so your personal data is safe), reboot to recovery, launch an ADB shell and type the following commands:
Code:
mount /system
tar -X /sdcard/exclude -zcvpf /sdcard/system.therest.tar.gz /system/
tar -zcvpf /sdcard/system.apps.tar.gz /system/app /system/priv-app
mount /cust
tar -zcvpf /sdcard/cust.tar.gz /cust
You'll then end up with 3 new files on your SD card - system.apps.tar.gz (which is apps and priv-apps from system), system.therest.tar.gz (which, as the name suggests, is the rest of the system partition!) and cust.tar.gz with is the cust partition contents.
Update the template zip with these 3 files and that's it. It's ready to distribute for people to flash via TWRP! If you have updated the boot image, you'll need to replace that too, the easiest way is to do a TWRP backup then pull that file from the SD card and drop it into the template zip as boot.img. That's really it!
I hope this inspires a few people to start playing around with custom ROMs for the Mate 8.. more cool things coming soon!
Oh and the all important template file...
DOWNLOAD - r1-customromtemplate-huawei-mate8-nxtl29-next-b180.zip [MEGA]
NOTE: You should not flash a template ROM onto a different version base ROM. You should always ensure you have a stock dload ROM to restore to if needed. Use at your own risk!

Bad news... The kernel source doesn't work properly!
I suspect it's just outdated, but using it results in graphical artefacts and random reboots.
I've raised it with Huawei but I'm not optimistic of an update any time soon I'm afraid.

When you type Mate 8 into the search box, this is what comes up:
Mate 8, NXT, Android 6.0, EMUI 4.1
And it seems to be the latest most complete open source they have released for the mate 8, as a matter of fact the vae released 2 versions, I have dowloaded them both, heres the link to my Gdrive if you want to take a look:

Nope, wrong!
They released this one a year ago (aprox):
Mate 8 OpenSource %28 NXT Android 6.0%2Ckernel%2Coverseas%29 .tar
They have just released this one in 2017, around febraury:
NXT-MM_EMUI4.1_opensource.tar
And no, they are not the same! latest is still Marshmallow yes but it has been released recently. I know cuz I have been looking all over for this, like I said I have them both.
You are correct, its outdated since Mate 8 is already in Nougat but the fact of the matter is that emui 4.1 seems to work better on the mate 8, better than emui 5.0 (nougat) and seems like Huawei is never going to release a polished Emui 5.1 ROM for the Mate 8 and of course they are not going to release the Open Source, they dont want us upgrading the mate 8, they want us to buy the Mate 9.

My bad then, I was pretty sure it was the same. Still, it sucks that's only EMUI 4.1, newer software may make LOS 14 happen quicker (and easier, but still not easy).
I asked by mail with Contact Us form in huawei site to release an updated open source software, maybe if enough people do this we can make it happen ?
(I know we're a bit off topic here but it just went as is).
That's what they answered :
Dear Sir/Madame,
Thank you for contacting Huawei France Customer Care.
We are happy to see your interest in the Mate 8 and we will forward your feedback and request to the proper departments. We can assure you that at this point we are doing our best to improve user access to our software.

Theres a good chance that Lineage 14 could happen for our mate 8 because there already are 2 AOSP ROMs on Nougat 7.1.2 version that have been developed for the Honor 8, a device that happens to be almost identical to the Mate 8.
I have been thinking on starting a challenge for developers, all the Mate 8 owners that want AOSP ROM should chip in and raise certain amount of money then we should offer this money as a prize for the developer that delivers a stable AOSP ROM for our mate 8!
LAOS 14 is already on its way courtesy of @_skypol0 who already brought us LAOS 13 but without any 7.0 source is not the easiest thing and he is the only one on this project so far. Anyway he's working on it. And a lot of thanks to him for this.

I totally agree the worst thing I did...
I really like this tabelt for what it is in premium edition. No lack of power for all jobs that are to be done with it and some light gaming. Custom ROMs aren't there, that's true, but honesty: what do you need a custom ROM for on this specific tablet? For me - and I'm a flashaholic as well - all has been there from the start. No need to flash any custom ROMs at all. Only thing I'm missing is the lack of updates regarding, at least, Marshmallow. Huawei definitely has to catch up-to other manufacturers regarding this special aspect. Just my 2 cent.

I don't regret byuing this device, all works great and theres enough power to get things done. Marshmallow would be great, with doze. Let's wait and see will we get that someday. I asked huawei about that update, but theirs answer was that they don't know will they update. Cm would be great alternative.
I have had this device for two days now, the Premium version and i just love it, perfect size in my opinio, and big plus is the u can make calls and sms with it hope to get the android 6.0 some day

LG G4 H815 has more than 50 high->critical stagefright vurnerabilities

Hi everyone, I installed StageFright detector from Zimperium to realise it contains 33 High and 17 Critical (!!!) vurnerabilities.
Stock EUR ROM, latest security patch is from January, newer is not available.
WTH to do with it? I mean... wow... that's too terrible to be true...
Welcome in reality my friend
But serious: hardware vendors like Samsung or LG are not very fast in patching or updating their firmwares. When you want to have a more current firmware your best choice is using a custom ROM.
The best example is the current situation: you're using latest stock rom and having such a bad scan result ( seems strange to me but you could attach a screenshot maybe ?). I use Ressurection Remix ROM a custom ROM based on CM 13 so Marshmallow.
The result of my stagefright scan is shown in the attached screen . The same is when using the Android VTS tool which scans more then stagefright issues only --> no security issues.
So it is your own decision if you want to wait for the vendor patches or if you want to risk your warranty by using a custom rom...

Hi, thanks for answer Yp I used custom ROMs for all my previous devices, great thing
For me it is really important to have secure device, so I think I will try it.
I would do it before, but another crucial thing is to have that great G4 (and v10) camera apps with RAW shooting etc. , so I presume it will be really hard to find ROM that supports shooting to DNG, that is secure too.
Btw I was talking about it with LG support and they denied fact, that they promised monthly patching So another company of liers.
P.S. adding a screenshot is not possible through computer, because MTP in Ubuntu is quite unreliable with LG G4 (no problems with Nexuses, Xperias etc.)
EDIT:
Your best bet is to use lgup and flash a newer official kdz (this can be done without losing your data0
or
Root and flash a stock based rom
LG updates have been abysmal and even carriers are pushing updates faster than Official LG
Hhmm, maybe things are about to change?
http://www.xda-developers.com/xda-e...ecurity-bulletin-for-monthly-android-updates/
That sounds very promising BUT it will be for their current flagships(!) only. If you want to stay save that means you need to buy a new Smartphone . Well the news are better then nothing but it can be a start only. I hope that more vendors will follow this way and start to provide updates not for their flagships only and that also for a reasonable time ( at least 2 years).

Yeah i am a fellow canuck user and I knew what I was getting into when i decided to buy the Nova Plus; ZERO support and correspondence for anything relating to our model. I don't even bother contacting them. In the bigger mobile phone market arena , we are so insignificant to them.
There is little chance we will get ANY unofficial or beta release. Unless LineageOS gets rolling. Anyways, this Beta program is promising news regardless, even if not for us.

First thing i downloaded when I got my Nova Plus was the FF app. Myself and @virusdunil have the Canadian MLA-L03 model; there is NOTHING for our phones, no TWRP, no root, no firmware out in the wild, ZERO. BUT i am not complaining I love this phone and cant wait for it to take off ( if and when that happens)

Agree...i really like my phone...the way it is....is there a rush (for me) tu upgrade to nougat ?...well,on different places the do upgrade but, downgrade to MM after a while... so,ill probably follow the others....ill do the upgrade but if i dont like it...ill say BABAYE to nougat
Also, ive modded a theme wich i really enjoy seeing on my phone and apparently,4.1 themes are not compatible to the new 5.0 emui so...
