Upper speakers are very quiet - Huawei MediaPad M2

After update (probably the problem was before update too, but after buying I did update almost at once) I noticed that speaker below are the same loudness. But speakers on the top of device are very, very quiet. Do all have the same problem?

I did not check the loudness of the speakers separately, but I have experienced a problem that might be related. If I lower the volume to one of the two lowest levels, there are dropouts on the audio when watching a video. Do you experience the same problem?

What application do you use? Where do you see "one of the two lowest levels"?Make a screenshot of the situation when you hear dropouts, please.
Also check speakers separately by increasing volume to the maximum and putting your pointer fingers of each hand on 2 speakers on the bottom of the tablet. Then you will be able to hear only two speakers on the top.

It's happening in different apps, like Amazon Prime Video and South Park for example. By "one of the two lowest levels" I mean: Lower the system media volume to mute, then raise it by 1 -> lowest level; raise it by 1 again -> second lowest level.
There are also no specific situations in which the dropouts seem to happen. The dropouts are usually just 2 to 3 seconds long. It sounds as if the sound is dampened.
Thanks, I will check the speakers separately later today. I don't have the tablet with me at the moment.

I just tried playing on the "level 2" loop video with MX Player and didn't hear any dropouts. I cannot confirm the problem on my device.
Please. let me know the situation with two speakers on the top. Do they produce any sound? If they do what is the level of volume comparatively with the ones on the bottom? My speakers on the top is almost quiet. If I cover two speaker on the bottom with fingers or put the tablet on my skin on my laps (knees) I can hardly hear two upper speakers. Please, confirm: is it the situation of all devices M2-A01L?

yes that was what i was thinking

The two upper speaker seem to work correctly on my device. The volume of the right one is a bit lower, and seems a bit distorted, but both of them produce sound when I cover the lower two speakers. The lower two are louder, but that was expected.
I also realised that I'm on a different firmware version than you. Mine is M2-A01LV100R001C100B006

As I said before, the volume on the upper speakers is just a bit lower than the volume of the lower ones. But I can hear them perfectly fine when covering the two lower speakers.

my upper speakers were working loud and clear yesterday. today im pretty sure they are either not working or so low in volume that i cant hear them over the lower ones. Any ideas or suggestions? i did uninstall the harman kardon audio demo app.

HTC One X Audio Hiss

Seen quite a few topics on this, seems no one has a solution.
What I'm trying to accomplish with this is to see if EVERY HTC One X has this problem of a hissing noise in the background.
The hissing noise sounds somewhat like television white noise, and is apparent when playing music at low volume and during quiet parts of a song.
Testing Method:
i) Using headphones/earphones/whatever that plugs in the headphone port,
ii) Play music or other audio.
iii) Turn volume down to zero (0%)
iv) Listen for the noise.
Repeat method with no headphones i.e. with speaker, and put speaker up to your ear (very close). Try and listen for the noise.
my one x has the issue too.
As far as i know this is not an issue and it's normal, try doing the same thing with any other device and you will hear the same thing, may be hard to notice sometimes but it's there ( I didn't notice this on my HOX until i read your thread )
I do have this hiss on my one x.It can easily be heard when the music is stopped and this hiss continues for a small second!
It drives me mad as I tend to listen to music on lower volumes compared to others...
Sent from my HTC One X
if it is for 2-3 seconds and then it stops, it's normal, not an issue, due to a low voltage signal the sound chip sends to audio device (whether that would be a simple earphone, or a full support Bluetooth audio kit) to announce that the sound broadcasting is finished... (fade out noise)
Same here.
At 0% volume mine does not hiss, however if I play a song then pause it there is a faint hiss for a second or two then it stops completely.
Here's another one, plug the charger in and here the buzzing/feedback through the earphones when charging...

No, the problem that I'm experiencing and trying to see if others experience is whether the hiss is happening DURING the music. I understand if you listen to music at above 50% you most likely will not hear it during the music.
Yes, I have got the same problem and it is caused by very poor SNR of One X DAC or analog circuit.
It is very annoying for me, as I use sensitive IEMs and my old HD2 has not got this issue at all - I just find hard to accept that I have to hear audio noise in 2012 flaghsip device. There are some workarounds possible that can POSSIBLY at least partially mitigate the problem:
1. Use less sensitive headphones
2. Use some kind of attenuator, like:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sound-lev...13488602?pt=US_Headphones&hash=item1e6f218cda
and increase listening volume at the same time
Issue confirmed. Could not believe that in this day and age I am confronted with such an obvious hiss on this top-of-the-line HTC phone.
Coming from the S2, I have not been impressed with the quality of the One X. I like the screen though, when I can't see any yellow spots, that is.

Will an external DAC help with this problem, if even usable with a phone?
Sent from my HTC One X
I probably should have said in my original post but yes I have the issue and noticed it....
Alternative was to use Bluetooth, I personally might get an APT-X adaptor thats portable so I can connect to my home cinema system or car stereo through the jack input....
I wonder if there's any One X without this problem, such as newer batches etc

If you can feed it a digital signal, then yeah, by all means it would help. I've not looked into it, I dunno if it's possible.

using music app or tune in radio connecting to my cars aux in via 3.5mm connection cable to utilize audio device and loudspeakers in car, and it is even more noticeable.. (the sound is great though) also you hear hiss and noises as inerference effect from the the engine clearly in silence between track changes

I have it as well, but im pretty sure iv heard the exact same noise on most consumer devices ive had like my ipod and old s2.. didnt even think about it till i saw this thread.
If it bothers you that much just email htc and see what they say...

Sound quality on the 10

Well I'm going to be talking about my speaker performance on the 10 compared to my previous phone the HTC One M8.
I don't know how HTC thought the 10's sound quality via the speaker was acceptable. I mean don't get me wrong the clarity of the sound from the speakers blows the m8 away for miles. It's hard to listen to the M8 without thinking how bad the clarity is imo. BUT the 10 is not as loud. The 10's tweeter on the front sometimes over powers the sub on the bottom and makes the song sound thin and tinny. I even tried flac files and still same thing. Not every song does this but a lot do. It doesn't have the force or drive like the M8 does. It seems like left (tweeter) and right (sub woofer) channels of song. You put the left and right together to get the full sound of the song. The M8 I believe has the left and right channels of the song on both speakers. That makes it more fuller an louder.
The M8 is pretty mushed at high volume meaning, it feels like all the instruments in the song are mashed together and thrown at you imo which is why I think the M8 doesn't have great clarity at all.
I'd like to say having clarity over mushed but louder and fuller sound is better but honestly I don't know anymore BUT hey the 10 has great headphone audio and other great features that make it worth having over the M8.
Let me know what you think and hopefully you guys have a better experience with sound meaning, there is a possibility that my device's speaker are defective lol.
Coming from an M8, I would say the HTC 10 definitely clearer but not as loud as the M8. However, it feels HTC worked on sound quality versus just making it loud.
It's a worthy trade-off. Using two different speakers for highs and lows is a brilliant idea and it really shows. I prefer listening to music at a mild volume for clarity versus loud somewhat distorted.
There were phones that were louder than the M8 but not as clear which is what BoomSounds trademark is.
On the 10, I can hear leaves rustling, fire popping, and other ambient noise that has never sounded so crisp, distinct, and natural. I feel like its the ATH-M50 of mobile sound with his balance.

try music mode its almost stereo
I'm glad I wasn't the only one that felt the speakers sounded a bit tinny, especially at max volumes. It seemed a bit underwelming compared to my Nexus 6p. At moderate volumes however, it sounds decent. Lots of clarity.
Has anyone installed V4A and tried volume boost or increasing gain?
and i hate that boom sound doesn't work when using soundcloud google play yes and apple music no soundcloud wtf

The headphone jack is awesome and the audio profiles are badass. Creating profiles is done using two options: "Answer questions" which asks your age, styles of music you generally listen to, etc., and "Listen to frequencies" which generates a much more detailed 5-band EQ. The latter is much better because you can tune it based on what you can actually hear in either ear - it plays a frequency tone in the left headphone, you adjust the volume until you can barely hear it, then it plays a higher tone, you adjust volume, etc., and then it repeats the process for the right ear.
This is beneficial since boosting certain frequencies is often more useful (and less harmful to your hearing) than just cranking up the overall volume. No one has "perfect" hearing and hearing loss is often not uniform across the normal range of audible frequencies, nor is it necessarily uniform from left ear to right ear. In my case, my left ear required a little extra bass and highs while my right ear needed extra mid-range.
You can also use this to adjust the headphone output to specific listening environments you encounter. For example, creating an audio profile while on an airplane should be able to compensate for the engine noise. Later this morning I'll be setting up a profile with my lawnmower running outside, so I'm looking forward to hearing the results.
My only complaints are UI related:
1. The audio profiles are buried about 3 levels deep in Settings. When you plug in headphones, you get the "HTC BoomSound with Dolby Audio" card in the notification shade. Tapping the card takes you to the main Settings app, where you tap "HTC BoomSound with Dolby Audio" again, then "Personal Audio Profile", then choose or create your profile. Would have liked something a little simpler to use, or at least have the notification card go directly to the BoomSound settings instead of requiring an extra tap.
2. There doesn't appear to be a way to edit a profile or view its settings after you create it. You can enable it or you can delete it. -- EDIT: This is incorrect; I am an idiot. You tap in the profile to edit it.
3. The audio profiles are completely hidden when the headphone jack is not in use. You can't even see the profiles you've created. Tapping on "HTC BoomSound with Dolby Audio" in Settings just toggles the speakers between Music Mode and Theater Mode.
tl;dr - lives up to the hype. Maybe even better than hyped.
Source: have mixed audio (both live and recording settings) for >10 years, did my testing with a pair of Audio-Technica studio headphones.
I've got a pretty good system in my car and I just tried it out a few minutes ago. It sounds amazing! I'm coming from an M8 with V4A and it sounds about the same in some respects and better in others. I created a profile with frequencies and the difference after doing so was definitely noticeable. I like that they even have a high quality sample with a toggle so you can compare very easily. I do miss the Clarity setting and the equalizer in V4A, but overall I am extremely pleased!
What I'm running, for reference:
Arc Audio XDI 600 amp
Focal i165 fronts
JBL 3-way 6x9 rears
12" Diamond Audio sub
Regarding the "Personal Audio Profile", I understand you can create multiple profiles yeah? Can you give those profiles custom names?
I for example would probably like to do at least three different "listen to frequencies" profiles: for my Piston 3's, the HTC hi-res buds and for my superlux hd-330's.
Would be nice if you can name them however you want ;D
Also is there an option somewhere within the settings to disable the 16>24 upsampling bs?
Checked out the 10 at Verizon side by side to my M8. Played same YouTube song. 10 is clearer but, very tinny and I can't here it over the surrounding noise, tried both modes. The M8 at least I can hear it and can't believe people say you can't hear the stereo separation, you can if you turn the device side ways. Over all having the choice I would pick the two front facing speakers all day long. I think HTC blew it hear, at least there is a work around with Bluetooth speaker. This is a amazing device except for the speakers and lack of IR blaster. I will still get the 10 mainly for the dev support this will get.

If they could, I am sure they would have kept the front facing speakers, but that would have meant bigger bezels, on-screen navigation keys and fingerprint scanner at the back. That would have killed the device from the outset, so the current speaker configuration is the best compromise.

1) You can create multiple profiles and name it whatever you want.
2) Upscaling bit-depth from 16 to 24 will NOT do any harm in theory (loseless), yet upsampling sample rate to a non-integer multiple of original may trigger a process called SRC, for example 44.1Khz -> 192Khz, which might cause some minor accuracy problem, but it's still transparent to human ears.

Probably true, the fingerprint scanner is to close to the bottom, kinda of a stretch one handed, if it would have been put were the HTC logo is on the M8 would have been more comfortable and possibly squeezed the lower speaker. You can't have everything in life so you make due...lol

Still because of htc keep the boomsound setup. If you look closely at samsung s7, you will notice samsung hide their display circuit at the top, beneath the logo. But samsung's top speaker is a very very small one, meanwhile htc used 2 large speakers , top and bottom.
So basically htc had to move the fingerprint sensor a bit lower.

Sorry I just forgot to answer that while explaining. No, there's no switch. And I couldn't even confirm the 16->24 conversion exists, official site state that they used a 24-bit capable dac, but didn't mention anything about upscaling/upsampling. If you have the source please don't hesitate to tell me.
HTC Nexus 9 I believe. That device had dual front facing speakers and those were really thin and on the edge of the screen, so I think they could have done something. With the 10, a volume booster makes it sound better but still tinny on the tweeter.
If you really want to hear a good example, play the song "vengeful one" by Disturbed, the intro is the tinniest sound you'll ever hear on the tweeter.

Well, you can switch BoomSound on/off entirely, but who knows if that changes the bit depth.
Your question about the audio profiles was already answered, but here are some screenshots of the profiles I made and what their EQs look like. I used the "listen to frequencies" method for all of them.

Static sound from headphone output/speaker ?

Okay, so I just want to check if this is normal. If someone could confirm this, I would appreciate it.
Whenever a sound is played on HTC 10, I hear a slight little static sound for 3-4 seconds, and then it disappears. It happens when I use headphones or speaker.
My phone is stock, haven`t messed with some advanced audio settings.
The best way to check this is to go to settings --> Sound & notification --> Notification sound.
Play one of these sounds.
If played through speaker, put the lower part of the phone (where the speaker is) to your ear, you should hear a very slight static sound that disappears 3 seconds after the sound is played.
FIXED : It is kernel related, flashing Elemental kernel v18 (which has Analog gain headphone feature) introduced static noise, reverted back to v16, no static noise anymore.
Credits to @Blue305 for pointing it out and @mosincredible for the helpful posts!

Thanks for the reply, but no, I have not modified hedphone analog gain or volume gain settings. The static sound can be heard for 3 seconds with headphones as well. Tried 3 pair of headphones, the slight static hiss is always there.

Okay, can someone please check if he has the static sound from speaker/while on headphones ?
Just realised that the static sound/hiss happens only on low impedance headphones, like the HTC headphones that came with the phone, Sennheiser Cx400 and all other average in-ear headphones.
Can someone test this and report back if he has the static sound for 3-4 seconds when a song is paused ?? Or when a youtube video is paused

I can confirm the static is there in the exact way described in the original post. Comes on for 3 to 4 seconds when audio is paused. Tested on stock ROM with latest unlocked US firmware using HTC Pro Studio headphones, Sony EX90s, and the headphones that came with my iPhone 6s.
Edit: The problem is worse in games. From Riptide Renegade to Real Racing 3 to my little boy's Lego games, the low level static is present and does not drop off as it does with video clips and audio.

So you have it as well on a stock phone.
It's worse for me too in games, like for example "Smash hit", I turn the volume all the way down in both game and phone and I still hear that whitenoise static sound. When I go back to homescreen, I hear the static for like 3 seconds more and then it ends Until I go back to the app
For a phone that's reason for being is primarily audio, this is an unforgivable oversight and flaw (in my opinion). Will be returning to HTC.
I expected it to be impedance related and it is. The higher up the impedance latter I go, the more faint the sound is. ie8 > t51i > m50 > dt770 80 ohm > hd600. I prefer higher impedance headphones anyway so this doesn't bother me as I rarely listen to my ie8. I'd give this same test to an iPhone but is have to wait until I get with the girlfriend.

Your sennheiser IE8 headphones have the same impedance like my sennheiser CX400 (16 ohm).
So you hear static as well on these headphones ^^ ??
Maybe it is impedance related, but then again, why would I need to have 500$ high impedance headphones to get rid of static noise that should't even be there. Also, I like my headphones to be discreet, not big, and those are always low impedance (16-32 ohm). This is a serious flaw in my eyes.

Well, I'll take my statement a step further. Your ability to hear the sound is impedance related. I believe the actual sound is software related. I've experienced it on the past 4 phones I've owned. With the phone that drives my headphones the weakest also being the phone that has minimal noise.

If weaker happens to be aligned with less noise for very low impedance headphones, I'll take the HTC 10 over other options. Does the iPhone drive high impedance headphones to same volume as the 10? And when you're bringing a different OS into the mix, you have a lot of other variables such as how the software handles outputting a sound.
I have the same problem with my Sennheisers CX300 II on elemental kernel.. the funny thing is I've only start to have it this issue after they started playing with the analog gain..

Bingo! After reading this, I went back to v16 of elemental kernel which is before the analog gain feature was added and the static is gone even on my ie8.
I had the same situation as Blue305. Was on cleanslate kernel and then flashed Ex kernel to see battery life and everything, after that started noticing static noise like everywhere.
I thought it wasn`t kernel related
V16 Elemental kernel with no analog gain features fixed it
@ryansc375, do you possibly also have elemental kernel installed or something similar ?

Hey everyone, just finishing up a long day with the family. Read all the posts and will report back now that I have some time to geek out. Hopefully the static demon can be exorcised!
Okay, so after a full wipe and running the latest RUU for the unlocked U.S. version, I can say that the static issue is gone on my phone. I'm not sure what changed but I'm happy it's back to normal (on stock). If I root again and want to install a kernel I'll be sure to use v16 of elementalx or one that doesn't mess with the audio settings.
Tested v19 of Ex Kernel. Static persists. Staying on v16 for now unless a new setting in Ex Manager comes along to fix it.

Hmm, he said he would fix the compounder or something to remove this issue.
Thanks for testing, let him know in his thread.

Stereo Speakers Sound Different.

After a RMA, I received a replacement Pixel 2 XL and noticed the speakers sound different. The bottom (right) speaker has more bass whilst the top (left) speaker lacks it. This is noticeable all the time for me. When I cover the speakers with my thumbs to identify the issue more, the top speaker sounds very different for vocals, drums and guitars. I'm not sure if this is normal for this phone as my RMA was for another issue with the top speaker so I am wondering if this is normal. I have read people saying the top speaker is quieter and a few with this issue but I'm wondering if it's an issue that can be resolved through another RMA or if it's normal.
It would help if people with Pixel 2 XL's test their phone speakers to see if they experience what I do. A good left right speaker test is https://youtu.be/hTvJoYnpeRQ and when you rotate your phone, the left and right speakers should flip and the audio saying left should have more bass as the phone flips the channels. It would also be nice if you would check with music to see more clearly.
All in all, should the speakers sound different or should they sound the same?
Thanks.
Wow never noticed that before yes the bottom speaker has more bass but both sound good. Probably an equalizer thing top is set for best speaking quality.

I think they're supposed to be that way. Mine does the same thing, unless be both have bad ones lol.
My one does the same thing - I was aware of it but your link made it pretty noticeable though. I don't use the speakers often so not a big deal for me.
Thanks for the help guys. Funny how no review channels talk about this.
I may be wrong, but I believe the bottom speaker is slightly larger. I recall seeing that on a teardown video/article.
My USB adapter
Long ago my pixel speakers worked just fine until one day I decided to play some music, and plugged and unplugged my usb adaptader and after that my speakers got damaged, I've tried hard reset and the problem still remains till this day.

Question Pixel 6 Pro Audio Crackle

Is anyone else getting an audio crackle when tapping the mic icon for voice typing? I remember this was fixed through software on my Pixel 2xl years back. It basically pops, sounds like it's clipping. VERY annoying.
Great...
Google still can't provide proper speaker and mic since Nexus 4. How many years has it been now they been providing worst audio and mic performance?

Did a factory reset to see. The microphone in google own messaging app didn't seem to crackle, but through Textra it did.
No crackle for me even on max volume.
What I did notice is that the stereo speaks are imbalanced in terms of volume. The selfie camera side speaker sounds way more "muted" than the charger side speaker.

Agreed. MAYBE the volume levels are the same on both sides, but the selfie side definitely SOUNDS different. I also dislike the way notifications sound. It sounds like it's coming from the back of the phone going away from me, making it sound like it's coming from a different phone a couple feet away from me.

Audio balance has always been an issue with Pixel phones, although they made a change to the series 5 which boosted the ear piece one was called adpative sound, maybe it works as well for 6
Adaptive Sound link

I'm not entirely sure there are speakers there. I can't find a teardown video yet.

Have you actually got the phone? All I've seen you do is comment after comment about how rubbish it is but nothing from you directly?
If you hate it so much don't get one.
No crackle for me. I use the mic often and play podcasts through the speakers of the day. The speakers are good, clear and can get loud if ineed them to.
The popping/crackling sound is happening on my pixel 6 non-pro model. If sound is playing and I either type or move around to different screens this happens. Looks like I am returning it.
So far I've only noticed pixel 6 pro speakers crackling playing genshin impact, easily heard on the main menu, but so far only noticed it in that specific title. Not while playing music or other games. So I'm hoping it's software related and I don't have defective hardware.
No crackle so far, just rocken Music.

Can you do a video for us, showcasing when this happens exactly and what kind of noise gets created?
Too late, returned the phone and earbuds. Between this, the lousy fingerprint reader and the phone randomly calling people, I am done.

I dont get how people get so many issues with phones lol... I've never had problems with any of my phones and I've had many...
My FP works 100% of the time, it is just a bit slower than the rest, but even then, just barely. I have a S21 Ultra in front of me right now and after testing both, I can definitely say that the S21 Ultra is a bit faster, the Pixel one is actually more accurate. I would prefer to have it in the back like previous models.
Having said that, if I did have those issues you described I would return it too.
I feel like it's a software thing, honestly. Because when i first setup myh device before I downloaded all the updates, there wasn't any audtio crackle at high/max volume. After I downloaded the updates, it's there slightly.
I don't have crackling or distortion, but I'm getting a good deal of sibilance from both speakers. Here is a definition of sibilance.
Sibilance
I listen to a lot of YouTube podcasts and videos and this is driving me crazy. I wanted to see if anyone else is having this problem before I see about returning the phone. Adaptive sound and balance control makes no difference.
I have a 6 Pro and have noticed crackling from bottom speaker since purchase when turning speaker on during phone calls. For me I otherwise really like the phone. I will be doing a repair or exchange once more phones become available.
I got my replacement brand new 6 pro, and now this one has distorted and crackling sound from the earpiece speaker. When i press the middle part of the screen anywhere.
I have turned off the adaptive audio, and I can hear the balance over blutooth changing. With one headset when listening to a mono podcast, you can hear the audio balance shifting randomly around.
With another bluetooth headset (my hearing aids), the balance starts out biased to the right, but the longer you listen the more it drifts to the left. Stopping and starting the audio stream immediately corrects it.
What is going on -- I have had every OnePlus Pro model since the 6, never had any issue like this.
Anyone have anything similar and or no how to fix? It is so annoying....
