Unlocking LTE bands on G8/G7 Plus - Huawei GX8

This post is intended for those having some experience in unlocking LTE/UMTS bands on Qualcomm processors. Please don´t ask "how to", as there is plenty of information for different devices on XDA.
I´ve done this before on Snapdragon 800 series-based devices -no issues so far. Now I´m trying to add LTE band 4 and UMTS 1900MHz on my Huawei G8 RIO-L02(Snapdragon 615), which are enabled by default on RIO-L03 version. AFAIK, there is only one processor version.
Process is straight: Get into diag mode, QPST will recognize COM port(as Snap-615 device) and QXDM will read NVRAM. Went into NV 6828 to make sure LTE band 4 was disabled and of course it was.
Changed values to enable band 4, wrote, turned off device and on again to check new data was there. Still I do not get LTE connection.
As for 3G, modified NV 0441, 0946, 1877 and 2954(values checked with MZTool). In this case changing/adding new bands lead to "No service" on phone(not even 2G).
What am I missing? As I told earlier I got some experience and feel quite comfortable on using these apps.
Any clue will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Get into service menu(*#*#2846579#*#*), make sure you´ve got USB drivers and debugging enabled, connect to PC and run dc-unlocker; it´ll detect your device and force COM port as Diag. Then you´ll be able to setup on QPST.

that's it!
thanks a lot!

Unfortunately it is not hardware-related only but software is involved, too. I´ve already tried flashing other version radio/modem.img, still no joy.

Thank you.
I suspected it.
I'll have to wait for a miracle .
The only thing left is to get out the Chinese from my phone...
I can load any rom RIO- L01 / L03 or RIO-AL00 (G7 Plus) for use in Spanish / English more comfortably .

Support for 4G LTE 2600(7)

Hi.
I've purchased a ZE551ml in Taiwan, here in Chile we use 4GLTE 2600(7), the TW version doesn't support that band, I've flashed the latest firmware, and now the version is "LRX21V.WW-ASUS_Z00A-2.13.40.13_20150401-8390_USER044030427_201501060109", this means I'm in the WW firmaware version? If not what can I do, and add support for 4GLTE in 2600(7) band?
Thanks for your help.
It is my understanding you will need to purchase a WW or US version to get band 7 support. The WW version in France should be released soon. No word on the US version.
I am not sure if there are different versions of ZenFone 2 ZE551ML (as for the hardware). I bought the ZE551ML from Taiwan about 2 weeks ago. It came with a WW firmware & I am living in Romania (so Europe). I did had some issues with LTE even after the last OTA update (the network kept dropping again and again). I solved the issues! For me, I only had to change the phone's ATP settings with the ones required by my network operator (Settings -> Wireless & Networks category -> More -> Cellular networks -> Access Point Names). Now I don't have any issue. Maybe you could try to find what settings are required by your network operator.
Thank you for saying this. I also have a TW ZenFone 2 and it came with WW firmware. I thought it was a mistake.

Although it's WW, it's not the same build as real WW model.
I also have Zenfone 2 TW version. Re-flashed it to WW just to make it more generic.

Yeah, true. There is, for example, an asian-market game-store app, pre-installed. Even though my phone came in with a WW firmware, I chose to flash it with the WW ROM from their website (I thought it would have been a more light version with no 3rd-party apps like Kindle, TripAdvisor, etc...but it's the same )
My phone is working with 3G, and network APN are well recognized. Only have problem with 4G. I think the hardware must support all bands, it's a feature of the chipset. So I hope that with a different version of the firmware fue 4G could work.

On the box check C.P/N barcode. Last two letters TW means Taiwan version.
Also, Taiwan version when bootы first time, suggests Chinese Traditional language by default.
Change FIrmware???
I keep reading different people saying: "I had CN firmware so I flashed WW firmware ...." while on the Asus site, from where I got the firmwares, says "DO NOT FLASH FIRMWARE OF DIFFERENT SKU VERSIONS" ... it explains further "CN SKU should flash CN firmware".
Can someone lead me in the right direction and tell me how to flash my CN version to WW version? Do I just flash the WW firmware off of Asus's site?
here is the bands it shut support from the differend versions

It seems that installing a different region firmware will work, but the bands won't. However, i know that the ZenFone 2 uses the same LTE modem in all these ZE551ML devices (Intel XMM 7262 Slim Modem—LTE Advanced). But this modem may come in 2 variants (not sure). I contacted Intel and Asus for more info regarding this. I know that there was an issue with Galaxy S5, for example, where some bands weren't allowed by default (market related), even though the phone supported them.
Flashing firmware from different region won't change supported 4G bands. Bands support relies on region of phone, which is defined in SFI (it's simpler version of ACPI found in PC) OEM1 table, and it's not touched by flashing procedure.
Although, it may be possible to spoof HW region in kernel. But it requires unlocked bootloader.
There may be another way to unlock bands: copy one region specific file set to another region set, but it may not work. This method doesn't require unlocked bootloader.
BTW, there is one more region not mentioned above, called FULL. So, according to name, it should support frequencies from all regions.

Taking a look at the recovery last_log file, the latest WW_ZE551ML_2.15.40.10_20150425 firmware include quite a few ifwi Image FW versions:
ifwi: 0002.50E6
ifwi: 0002.00E6
ifwi: 0005.00E6
ifwi: 0088.0163
ifwi: 0094.0171
ifwi: 1002.10E6
IFWI FW Major version numbers (the first four) have to match before it will flash the firmware.
I suspect these may be the different regional modems in our device, but allows ASUS to push a single firmware.

There are exactly 6 ifwi_ files in ifwi.zip inside the ROM package. But I can't figure out their versions... Maybe we can flash an ifwi with different major version with xFSTK Downloader?
EDIT: Finally got something...

I don't hope much. There are 2 different ifwi binaries:
Code:
ifwi_ann_a0-mofd_v1-ze550ml.bin
ifwi_ann_a0-mofd_v1-ze551ml.bin
But only one DBG version.
It means, DBG version is for special DEBUG device, with probably special hardware config, neither ZE550ML nor ZE551ML.
It's possible, that ZE551ML and ZE550ML are the same at bootloader stage where existing differences are not touched. But if there is some initialization or even access of device specific config, then wrong bootloader will eventually brick device.
For some unknown reason ASUS choose not to hardlock write access to boot block. It's only "soft locked". It means, with root access you can enable write access and then using dd, you can re-flash boot block. Btw, boot block (IFWI) is written not as-is. Updater reads some kind of settings/config from existing boot block, then copies it to new boot block and then writes it back to flash.
So, it's extremely dangerous to mess with boot block flashing!

Make sure the devices lte bands match that of your carriers lte bands. Dont look at 2g and 3g bands. Only lte bands. Second id say make sure your apn settings are correct.
And last is make sure in mobile networks you have global or gsm cdma and lte selected
---------- Post added at 11:22 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:19 AM ----------
A lot of times this could be due to specific hardware not picking up propper lte bands or those bands not being enabled. Which u can google on enabling hidden lte bands. I didnt notice what model u had from the seller. I noticed u said manipulations of unlocking bl so where u sucsessful? Then its a h815 i believe which would be the global model. Which then could be software relTed or a settings issue.
I had not specified that it is a h815 international version but planned for a planned commercialization in Singapore. According to my operator the antenna 4g near my home uses only the band 800 which is normally compatible with ... I also have a lg g4 that works perfectly with my chip. All APN settings are correct .. Is there a way to force to use this tape?
I tried manipulation to unlock the bootloader with the official version of LG but it is an Asian phone .. I thought of a software problem so I tried with lg bridge that does not pick up my phone. Is there any other way?

That's a great news
LTE+ was available for You all the time or it just appeared after update ?
I'm asking because somebody tried to enable CA on WHYRED and it was partially succesfull (LTE+ was shown, but CA wasn't working). So now (as CA appears to be working) all that needs to be done is to change in Diag mode which band should be used (to enable CA for different frequencies)

btw, the + sign wont appear to begin with if the band is not aggregated. so i think if u managed to see the sign, the CA should be working

I have never seen a 4G+ sign on my WHYRED Global. My guesses are, that CA is working (as it's working for You), but not with the bands that are avaliable in Poland. In about a month I'm gonna go into USB Diag mode and try to enable something more EU compatible (like B3+B7)

I kept left cliking on that value, managed to edit it, rebooted my phone (tried to enable LTE CA on band 1 1+20). No 4G+ though and now QPST wont see my phone anymore :/
Why are those NVRAM values unreadable by QXDM professional and why cant QPST detect my phone (it is visible in device manager as a diagnostic device)
It appears, that those LTE CA items aren"t there. Wird. Is there any way to open a .qnc file to compare two different modems ?

you need to make a backup in .xqcn format, and compare it in software like Notepad++
also, it will help to have QRCT tools, not just QPST and QXDM
btw, some values belong to newer modems are no longer readable by older QXDM, you need new version.
no cracked one for that though. You either need to know some qualcomm guys, or work in a company that has access to newer software version (QPDT, QXDM, QRCT. I just happen to be quite lucky to be in the second group.
@otonieru
Yeah. Newer QXDM professional is needed as intra band agreagtion files aren"t readable as well :/
I"ve tried to read something from modem file.qxcn but ... most of it is digits and letters (hexadecimal code i guess)
Can You please check if Yours newer version of QXDM can read LTE CA files ? (they are in NV browser under category RF LTE)

It has nothing todo with the modem. Its Hardware site removed/restricted. Alot of people tryd allready with other phones to open band 20, with no luck.
Try this if you think it should work...but i dont think so..

Das ist Hardware mässig gesperrt/entfernt wurden. Da kann man nix machen. Bei Xiaomi falls LTE band 20 benötigt wird, immer die Global Version kaufen.

That would interest me too
Code:
13. click on line 06828 (lte_bc_config); click the Read button
I tried all the methods available, no luck. Our phones doesn't have that parameter at all. LTE bands are configured somewhere else. I am leaning the way that we need some kind of modified QCN file. I got original QCN backup before starting mess with fsg and modemst1 partitions. But I think QCN is not restoring the original state. If only I could have EFS partition backup (didn't know what it is then). If you know somebody willing to share his/her EFS, it would be starting point.

How to enable Carrier Aggregation on M51?

carrier aggregation is not supported on M51 I believe. And that decreases the speed of internet, while using through sim. Is there any way to Enable it?
There is no way except Samsung giving firmware update(not oneui). And I think we have to wait for another good 2-3 months that to happen.
We can enable carrier aggregation by enabling Qualcomm diagnostic mode and den using qpst and qxdm. But I dont know how to enable Qualcomm diagnostic mode in M51.
You can check Carrier Aggregation defined combinations with Scat: https://cacombos.com/contribute (scat section). This QMDL log file output will include details about Carrier Aggregation Combinations if defined to this device.
This might work
