New Pixel C running build MYB15I (6.0) - Pixel C Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just received a brand new Pixel C shipped direct from the Google Store in the UK yesterday. It arrived running an October build called MYB15I (Android 6.0) that doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere on Google's factory image download site. Has anyone else heard of this build? It's so old the nav bar buttons are all together in the centre of the screen, not split to the sides as I expected. Haven't received an OTA notification yet. When I check for updates it tells me I'm running the latest version. I'm worried they've sent me a device with some kind of pre-release developer build on it by mistake. Has anyone else seen a Pixel C running this build? If so, did you get an OTA eventually to bring it up to date?
Thanks

That build is tagged in ChromiumOS's kernel git repo, which is where you find the Pixel C's kernel source.
Link:
https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromiumos/third_party/kernel/+/MYB15I
So at least at some point, it existed somewhere (and evidently does so now on your Pixel C).

I got my Pix C with that same build last Wed. Just last night I got the new March update and am running 6.0.1 now

Thank you. That's what I needed to hear. I can relax a little now knowing an OTA should come now - this October build is ok, but lags.
If I don't get the OTA in a few days I may be tempted to jump to the android n developer build and then opt out to go to 6.0.1. I heard on reddit this worked for someone else who was running this old build.
Cheers again.

I seemed to have to update my apps to the latest and reboot before I got the update notification to get me to 6.01. Maybe completely unrelated...
The differance for me was night and day. Lagging and unresponses on 6 and working great after the most recent update to 6.01 march

Thanks, it was worth a try as I'd been avoiding updating the Google camera to the latest version as that;s not working on 6.0. But on reboot it made no difference. Just gotta wait it out, I could just flash the latest factory image, but you shouldn't have to do that right away when you buy a new piece of tech. Besides had a heart op a couple of weeks ago, so don't need the flashing stress right now
Cheers anyway.

Fair enough and I agree and took the same root of updating first while I do some reading on the state of things now for the Pixel C.
Didn't want the hassle of screwing things up, before I'd read everything

The wait is over. Just got the Pixel C March OTA at 18:00, so currently halfway through 'Android is updating'. Incidentally I also got the March OTA for my Nexus 6P a minute later. Wow - pretty awesome stuff!

Does your screen click if you press hard enough on the left side? I was told by google that this is normal.

Nexus 5X OTA Update Delay?

Since the phone was released, there has been three updates to the OS. I got the first one out of the box like most, but the following two have not graced my device.
Has anyone else gotten the OTA's for these builds?
I find it interesting on which devices get certain waves of the rollout of these OTA's.
Thanks!

Those are not regional updates.
The original, the first post-release, and then the November security update. Not sure where to account for the fourth.
I'm surprised they didn't pull the first one since flashing its radio enables Band 12.

Do you or anyone know where a changelog would maybe be?

The first one disables Band 12, along with whatever else Google wanted to change. The most recent one just released today so you'll likely be prompted for an OTA shortly, and it's a security release.
There might be a changelog somewhere but I don't have a link to it on hand,

MDA89E was ship OS
MDB08I Disabled Band 12 and whatnot when it was delivered.
MDB08L is the one in question, what was this one?
MDB08M is the newest one that is a security release, that one is the one we are waiting on right now.
So what was the MDB09L release? Is it a real thing that people got? This is not complexly aimed at you, but to ask the questions to XDA as well. x3
Probably be better to ask Google.

I am still on MDA89E
I have just been notified to download and install MDB08L, and have done. I'm currently in London, UK - on the EE network
Just checked, no update still, i am on EE too.

I have one straight from Google. Funny thing though, I checked for updates and got a "welcome to your new nexus 5x email"

OTA Update 6/22/16

I am currently downloading the new set OTA. I saw someone else said it's just a security update, but the file I'm currently downloading is 1.6GB. Seem rather large for a security update?

I am downloading that as well. it's been an hour and the download is 1/2 way done. No where in the news does ATT mention either SW update OR a security patch.. Hope I am not disappointed after this..

The combination of an OEM known for being slow with updates (Samsung) and a carrier that's even worse, sad to say. A shame, really. The Note5 is an excellent phone all around. In truth AT&T is worse to deal with than the the the manufacturers themselves.

Well that takes all the fun out of things in my opinion. You're gonna watch some knucklehead have at it like a drunk girl at a frat party. Half the fun is gaining the experience hacking away at an ADB shell and figuring things out on your own. Damn kids these days.... Get off my lawn.
so if we are on PE6 what is the point of updating?

You are not understanding, I would all day but my phone is a free phone, I cannot modify the phone being in the Insights program, I cannot side load the program. I have a Nexus 6 for real fun, this phone is just my meh phone compared to the Nexus 6.
Also, the guy I deal with at the Samsung Experience probably knows more about android phones than 95% of the users on here, he is an awesome dude. He actually helped me root my first free Note 3 from the Insights program and was able to keep Samsung from seeing it so I would not lose the phone. Samsung has got smart though with the program and can tell now.

November Security Patch

Has anyone gotten this yet? I see that a couple of Samsung phones from T-Mobile have updated. I thought the Google phones would be the first ones to get these.
Also curious because I heard the back and forth about who was handling updates (Verizon for my VZW model, or straight from Google). So, I was curious if you guys with Google store models have seen this update yet?

November security updates haven't been posted on the Google Dev site yet (https://developers.google.com/android/ota). They'll be there before they start pushing via OTA.
Regarding Samsung, I think that their "November" security update contains the bug fixes that Google pushed to Nexus/Pixel in October.
Arriving today according to Verizon.
http://www.droid-life.com/2016/11/07/verizon-pixel-xl-update-bluetooth-wifi-calling-november/
Security patches by Google are always released on the first Monday of the month. For November, the first Monday is today and as you can see on developers.google.com/android/images, the images are now available.

Yeah I used the google flash-all method which wipes userdata but whatever I don't care about that and I'm still unlocked.
Updated via adb sideload from P ---> X.

This worked. Thanks! Why is step 2 of 2 taking an hour? Says installing update but my phone is booted. I've never seen this. Especially with such a small update.
When I look at Google play services to update it, both the disable button and force stop are greyed. I see no way to update the app. Any suggestions?

Anybody get the OTA yet that wasn't a Beta member?

If nobody has, has anyone heard a timeframe?
Not yet, since Monday and today is Thursday, four days ago 8.0 came out. My Pixel XL came out last year with Nougat so this is the first big Platform Upgrade. I'm trying to remember if my former Nexus 5 took so many days to get a Platform Upgrade.

They haven't even posted the actual OTA files yet. Most likely cause they(the public OTA release) are not finalized until after the release to beta users to catch any final issues....as they pulled the one they pushed it at first...then resent(signature issues). Quite a few users reporting O issues....so I would say it will be at best a week or 2 before Google works out the bugs and does public OTA.
Not from non-beta OTA, later I joined the beta, and it came.

I am on the Pixel XL and Nexus 6P with DP4 on both. I received one single ~59MB and ~36MB OTA file on each.
I thought that was really small since all the DP OTAs were ~1GB and so expected a similar size for the stable OTA. Can you share your OTA experience? What was the size and did you receive two files (small+big) as some others are reporting online?

Got the facts from the Pixel forum here.
If you're on the DP4 Android O, it is considered the final Release Candidate so only the smaller OTA is delivered to bring you in line with the stable release of Android Oreo.

I see that that is a way to basically force the OTA to 8.0, but I'm still uncomfortable doing that without any system or OTA images available on the google site. There must be a reason no images have been posted for any carrier. So I'll sit it out for now and I do believe you will get an updated OTA once the images are released. Even though Oreo is "official" I still thinks it's just a later beta with all the issues they're having.

This is where I am - now. I never normally do the beta stuff, but this time after Monday's announcement, I got excited and believed all the stories about how you could join the beta, just to get the OTA to the "final" release of 8.0 (I was stock, un-rooted, 7.1.2 on T-Mo). I did it, and it worked just as expected. I was first thrown by the naming convention for the build (OPR......., instead of just "OZKL4T" or something--I realize now that might be how they are named from now on). I have also since seen that there is still carrier testing to be conducted, plus other issues. Also, if it's "final", why aren't the images and OTA files here yet - https://developers.google.com/android/images ?? Being cautious, I decided to reflash the latest 7.1.2 image, and wait patiently for the "real" OTA. Not interested in beta testing (any more than we already do by being Nexus/Pixel stock owners). Happy for everyone that is running this latest build, but I'm only interested in the rock-solid, absolutely final images. Those are not here yet, in the form in which they have always come previously (and will almost certainly come again shortly).
Uh....I'm still on November 7.1.1, was about to upgrade August release but waited for the official O release from Google.lol

I don't have it either, and it won't play music in the car. It connects and phone calls seem to work (I just dialed a number and hung up, not sure how call quality would be), but the car doesn't find a compatible media device. I read the security update might fix it??

8.1 DP will get you October patch. Sacrifice stability for security if you want. Kidding a little, I was wondering where the heck the security update was before I went to the 8.1. Possibly they're waiting to package all the software improvements together and since people keep complaining about more things, they keep adding more things.
Not here!
It's only been released with 8.1 beta
My first Pixel/Nexus back since I had the Galaxy Nexus, and one of the main decision points was rapid updates, including security ones. Here it is, Nov 3, and still on September. I could swear Google was on a regular monthly cadence of security updates for the Pixel 1 and Nexuses (Nexi?)
lets hope for nov 6 patch.. hopefully addressing most concerns
Nov 7 and I'm still only on September patch.

It takes time for the otas to roll out. You can't expect thousands of people in all areas of the world on different carriers, to receive the patch at the exact same second.
Hoping these come soon. Don't like being out of date by so far at this point. Not sure why I still am only on September.

This would be a good excuse but as of a couple months ago supposedly the update button was supposed to actually work. I know I hit the stupid thing 20 or 30 times since seeing the update dropped and still haven't gotten the update.
Really. Google Play Store can update an app all across the world in a few hours? OTAs don't happen since carriers control updates. This should not be. Google needs to reclaim their power before Android goes to the dark side of fragmentation. I have a bad feeling about this.
There are many reports about the display changes for the Pixel 2 XL in the released November security update, but neither the OTA or images are posted on Google's site yet.
Tortoise updates by Google...
Updates are live on Google site
Anyone else not received the Nov update yet?

I haven't, but my patience is running thin! I'll probably Flash manually in the next few days...
