[TWRP] [Recovery] [E6553] [E6533] Xperia Z3+ FOTA recovery - Xperia Z4/Z3+ Android Development

Hello guys!
Today I want to present you fully working recovery for our beloved Xperia Z3+/Z4 device! I ported it from Z5 devices, as it has the same board under the hood. For now it`s TWRP 3.0.0-0, and i will try to keep it up to date. Also it will stay with you for as long as you want, just don`t reflash your FOTA partition. Files or download links, with a little "How-to" you can find below.
Guide for installing to /recovery partition
Put twrp1.img/twrp2.img to Fastboot folder
Hold Shift and then right click on the window
Then "Open command line here"
In command line write "fastboot flash recovery twrp1.img/twrp2.img"
Connect your phone holding Vol+ button
A blue LED will light up for a while, you will receive "Done or Ok" in command line
After that disconnect your phone abd turn it on
And when orange/yellow LED will appear on Sony logo, press Vol+ one time
Soon you will enter the recovery main menu
Guide for installing to /FOTAKernel partition
For the first time you need to install appropriate kernel from my Drive Folder. Just "Ivy" is for Single Sim, when "Ivy_dsds" is for Dual Sim.
Put twrp1.img/twrp2.img to your /sdcard folder
Download and install Terminal Emulator
Then open Terminal Emulator
In command line first write "su", then give it SuperUser permission
Then, after giving Terminal SU Permissions, write "dd if=/sdcard/twrp[1 or 2, depends on your phone version].img of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/FOTAKernel"
After that reboot your phone
And when orange/yellow LED will appear on Sony logo, press Vol- to load recovery from /FOTAKernel partition
Soon you will enter the recovery main menu
twrp1.img is for SingleSim and twrp2.img is for DualSim respectively
AFTER THE INSTALLATION, TO ENTER THE RECOVERY, JUST PRESS VOL+ ONCE AFTER YELLOW/ORANGE LED ON SONY LOGO IF YOU'VE INSTALLED IT TO /RECOVERY PARTITION, OTHERWISE PRESS VOL-, LIKE I HAVE DESCRIBED IN THE GUIDE

Changelog:
14/05/2016- Kernel updated to work with Recovery from /FOTAKernel
- Recovery included into kernel image as /recovery partition [Ver. 3.0.2-0] ; [No more need to install it manually in /recovery partition as it's described in OP]

Great, thanks. Just tested it, works as expected.

Thanks to this and you, now I have recovered the DRM's and great functions again like a supposed to work camera (auto focus good photos, no super heat lagging on photo&videos), screen colors... and maybe others that I ignore...
I am root flashing SuperSU and have working root apps and Xposed, in this app with the restriction of only using Greenify and Xposed Torch as safe modules till now, because I get stuck on the boot screen using other modules, I solved this problem of not boot device in the following steps:
-Power off the device by pressing VolUp+ and PowerButton, doing this vibrate 3 times and power off.
-Power on the device by presing PowerButton and then vibrate as always one time, immediately keep pressing PowerButton for about 10 seconds, in this lapse phone will have a serial of vibrations, then the phone starts normally but with the Xposed app disabled... I didn't know what I really made but this worked for me.
This post are being reporting Working Xposed Modules on MM

can I flash it with locked bootloader? or I must unlocked bootloader first?

Thanks alot. Works great

As the name hotboot suggests, it works only that one time. Follow the instructions in the first post to flash it.

MotexT asked me to post this to his thread:
Hello. Unfortunately, my laptop was destroyed (thx to my little sister), also two days ago someone has stolen my phone - not the best days in my life. Right now I'm working to earn some money and buy new laptop, and ASAP a new phone (will be Z4 or Z5). Stay tuned, anyways. As you can see, I have not responding for a while, actually because I've lost all, sorry for delay.

Mount system
I've flash the recovery and root the phone, but my system is still unmounted, where is my mistake ?
Hope there is any answer

[Q] fastboot LT26i

Hi, I am here in flashing phones newbie, so sorry in advance. I have LT26i original stock firmware. And I would like to use android 4.2.2 (because waiting for official firmware is unbelivieble). So I found some instructions how can I do it.
first root, then unlock bootloader, then install CWM and then install firmware
Root is done, I think that my unlock is already done too , but without my working on it. Because if I press *#*#7378423#*#* and then Service info--->Configuration I see this: Bootloader unlocked yes.
Next if I want to install cwm I do not know how, beacuase I cant go into fastboot. If I use combination switch on+volume up in same time as I plug USB cabel in device manager appear nothing new. (I am using win8 and UsB debuging is enabled). And a situation is if i press all , is short one vibration then 3 short vibration, logo Sony and it is repeating if I hold all,
what is a issue?
thank you very much

Hello madacek,
I wish I could help you out with all the questions,
But just explaning them will not be sufficient.
This requires lot of reading the forum and learn the basics of flashing in installing roms.
But I'd try to explain you the best as possible.
1. Is Your Phone Bootloader Unlocked?
Dial *#*#7378423#*#* . Then go to -> "Service Info" -> "Configuration". If there is:
Bootloader unlock allowed - Yes << this means that your Bootloader is Locked
Bootloader Unlocked - Yes << this means that your bootloader is unlocked
2. Which Firmware?
Well Actually Every Firmware from Are Very Amazing Developers are Great To Use.
What matters is, Is the firmware stable or not?
Developers Publish 3 Types of Firmwares.
- Nightly Builds : Generally published every week or so for developing perpose
- Monthly Builds : Much Stable Then Nightly.
- Beta Versions : Most Stable.
These may vary depending on developers,
There are a lot of Custom Roms for Xperia. And every one of them is Unique And Great.
List of ROMS for Xperia S is Given Here.. ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1950706
3 How To Instal Firmware.
First of All.
You need to know What problems You can have if You are not flashing Step by Step.
Soft Brick -- Flashing was Not Proper
Hard Brick -- If an any case your phone shuts down during flash.
Bootloops -- This is when your phone goes on doing a same repetitive boot again and again. (Possible Fix - FLash boot.img in downloaded rom zip via FLashtool)
Now Step by Step Process. :
1.Device Unlocking
All info regarding unlocking procedure is on SONY website
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
2.Copy update on phone
a.copy update
copy update-xxx-xxx-xxx.zip coresponding to your device to sdcard
b.copy GAPPS
due to legal rules gapps are not provided into main rom
google for gapps package and copy on sdcard
3.Flash CM kernel
a. extract boot.img from zip file
Plugin The Device To FLASHTOOLS on PC
And Follow These Instructions ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963961
4.Boot into recovery
While FXP logo is displayed (and lights are lit) press several times volume up to enter CWM (recovery)
5.Flash ROM
To update main rom select
a.Install zip from sdcard
b.choose zip from sdcard
c.select your update (copied at step 2)
To flash gapps redo steps a-c and select gapps package
!!! use gapps version designed for your android version !!!
6.Wipe device
!!! if after boot you experience ForceClose then is recommend to reboot to recovery and wipe device
7.Partition format
Is not recommended to format your partitions unless you are advised to do otherwise
8.Reboot and Enjoy
4 Something Important You Need To Know
Do Not Panic. Your phone will not Brick Until You do Something Crazy Like Throwing The phone on wall while Flashing or Plug out the USB when everything is Flashing fine. This requires patience and time. Dont freak out or do something crazy.
5.What is Fastboot?
There are two types of Boot,
Flashmode Boot.
And
Fastboot.
Flashmode is generally used for official stock firmware flashing.
Fastboot is used by developers to flash custom ROMS.
You can go into
Flashmode by Pressing Volume Up Button While Connecting Usb into PC before Starting A Flash
Fastboot by Pressing Volume Down Button While Connecting Usb into PC before Starting A Flash
Slim ROM Its really nice ROM actually And I Have Used The Slim Bean Build 5 Nozomi for a long time now. But currently on CM10 Team FXP. TeamFreeXperia are very professional and release stable builds, So i'd advice you to try one of CM10.

A Word of little advice.
SOFT RESET = 1 vibration then let go of buttons (hold about 3 seconds); Like hitting REBOOT.
HARD RESET = 3 vibrations then let go (about 10 seconds); Like taking out the battery.*
*USE HARD RESET ONLY IF ALL OTHER TRICKS HAVE FAILED. RECOVERY FROM THIS DEEP LEVEL OF SOFT-BRICK WILL TAKE A LONG TIME
Hard Reset Not Advisable @ First Attepmt

Thank you very much, everything was working great. But now I would like to solve other flashing in other thread. My question is how can i close this thread as solved?

Few questions Regarding ZL modding/Flashing

Hi,my first post at xperia !!!
I am new at the Xperia modding but old from Galaxy s-1,2,3 etc.
I have these Queries to make things clear:
My phone came with 10.1.A.1.434
I un locked my bootlader and rooted with recovery exactly fine from the forums guides.
My question is If I flash the new updated rom, my root will be removed for sure, and also the bootloader will be re locked?
And If that happens, how can I root my phone again since there is no official CWM updated yet?
waiting for your reply guys

Can't really say for sure about the bootloader since I haven't unlocked mine, but the root will be removed if you flash a new updated firmware through Flashtools (happened to me when I updated the original .434 with the .423 - with a full wipe - and when I flashed the brazilian .423 over the middle eastern/asian .423 without the full wipe).
My guess is that the bootloader with be re-locked when you flash the ftf with Flashtools, but you can unlock it again with Flashtools itself.
First, you'll need to use DoomLord's easy root tool (v15 worked for me with the .423 firmware, so my guess is that v17 should work as well). Then you can flash the dual TWRP/CWM and unlock the bootloader again.
Best regards.

Actually, I was talking about this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2288118
Includes both TWRP & CWM. And I guess you can unlock the bootloader using the Flashtools button on 4.2.2 stock firmware, but I'm not 100% sure (again, I've opted to stick with my locked bootloader for now)

When booting, after the initial Sony logo, when the notification led shows up in green you have 3 choices:
- press and hold the volume up button until the notification light turns purple to access CWM recovery;
- press and hold the volume down button until the notification light turns purple to access TWRP recovery; or
- don't press anything to boot normally (should be 3 or so seconds until the notification led turns off).
And that's it...

Brother,
First thing first that please don't quote the whole OP, its very long and consume much space. Now brother I don't know that its working for A093 or not as I don't have the device and now I have also sold the A104. Try it but before trying download the whole stock firmware of A093, so that if it fails you can get back to its original position.

Hi man,
I did the whole procedure properly and the top half of my phone screen is inverted.. Not the display, but the touch only.. I must touch the center of the screen to pull down the status bar.. (Know what I mean?) I can't seem to fix the issue.. I tried flashing stock recovery.img, didn't work. Tried stock rom, didn't work. Did a full wipe too.. I'm not blaming you, I just need your help.. Any idea why that happened or how to fix it?

I got the same issue. Looks like the provided boot.img wasnt meant for the device we have. I am also trying to fix this. Will update if it gets fixed.

Hey, Just in case you are still having that issue. I figured out the cause. Its because of the boot.img we flashed. The new hardware components used in our phones are not compatible with the old boot.img we flashed, which is supposed to be of earlier Firmware version. Please download the package below and flash it.
http://clicknupload.com/xdpt8n2w3oho
I assume that you must had already flashed the complete old firmware, you need to flash this new firmware. I havnt flashed old FW so just flashed the new boot.img of this package and the problem is solved.
This is a request to the thread owner to please mention this in OP that the users with V8.1 (can be checked in Settings >> About Phone >> Build Number) should uncheck boot while flashing, however it will cause same inverted touch issue in recovery but it can be managed with the volume buttons anyways.

When I bought this device then I downloaded it and made the rooting n recovery guide after testing it for three times on my device. If later the oem has changed anything in firmware then I'm sorry but I cannot update it as now I don't have this device anymore. If you want recovery for this device then please uploaded your boot.img from latest firmware and I'll make a recovery for you but after 7 days from now. currently busy in funeral of my Grandma.

Lets first start with the very known thing of MTK devices. So these things are common in all MTK:-
1)
Code:
[URL="http://www.mediafire.com/download/kmt3bjcga3pyymf/SP_Flash_Tool_exe_v3.1344.0.212.rar"]SP Flash Tool (For flashing any MTK Device)[/URL]
2)
Code:
[URL="http://www.mediafire.com/download/3q679a2jelhcumc/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.94.zip"]Super-User Update (Rooting zip, flashable in custom recovery)[/URL]
3)
Code:
MTK Preloader USB VCom Driver (Search on google, there are many)
Brothers,
1) is basically used by us for flashing custom recovery, boot, or factory firmware, if anything goes wrong.
2) is used for rooting a ROM, may its Kitkat or Jellybean.
3) is used for flashing through sp flash tool
PRE-Requisite:-
1) Normal Human Brain. [Must, Don't even try without it]
2) Patience [Again a must have thing.]
3) MTK Preloader USB VCom driver installed on your PC.:good:
4) Recovery Utility for Canvas Fire 2 A104 [Download this]:good:
5) Stock Firmware of Canvas Fire 2 A104 [Download this as a precaution]:good:

Best method to unlock zenfone 5 bootloader without any freeze/random reboot!

I'm using RR 5.6.9 by @tank0412 for last one week.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-5/development/rom-resurrection-remix-mm-5-6-7-t3357331
So far I didn't face any freezing or random reboot issues. What I did is as below:
1. Flash/downgrade to UL-ASUS_T00F-WW-2.21.40.30-user firmware.
If you know how to flash stock firmware then skip step 2-12 and just flash it by yourself. These steps are for new users.
2. TURN OFF the device. Press and hold Volume Up+Power to enter to fastboot/droidboot. When the ASUS logo shows up, release the power button and keep on pressed the Volume UP button. This will take you to droidboot/fastboot mode.
3. Check whether your PC detects the fastboot...
Code:
fastboot devices
if not, go to device manager and install the fastboot driver(by online). if fails, install from the PC by selecting the android device from the list.
4. Download this image UL-ASUS_T00F-WW-2.21.40.30-user.zip: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/Ze...user.zip?_ga=1.61130092.1708615694.1457697474
If you have different SKU, you need to find the right firmware(version-2.21.40.30) here: https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone_5_A500CG/HelpDesk_Download/
5. Extract fastboot.img, boot.img, recovery.img from the zip file and copy to ADB folder to flash. Copy UL-ASUS_T00F-WW-2.21.40.30-user.zip to ADB folder as well.
6. Run the below commands:
Code:
fastboot flash fastboot fastboot.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
wait for reboot.....
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
7. Then go to recovery by selecting from the menu, you will an android logo with "!" sign. Press power+vol down+vol up sequentially and simultaneously, don't release any of the buttons. You should be in recovery mode.
8. In the recovery, select wipe data/factory reset
9. Select wipe cache partition
10. Select apply update over adb sideload
11. Now check whether your PC detects the ADB over USB. if not, go to your PC's device manager and install the ADB driver online. if fails, install from the PC by selecting the android device from the list.
12. After successful detection, run below command
Code:
adb sideload UL-ASUS_T00F-WW-2.21.40.30-user.zip
13. Download this official tool for Unlock Bootloader: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/Ze...rel.zip?_ga=1.117083014.1481752799.1464212721
A501cg users should get the tool here: https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone_5_A501CG/HelpDesk_Download/
14. Extract the downloaded file and copy the .apk file into you SDcard. Install that .apk(if it says untrusted app, then go to settings>security>enable Unknown sources).
15. Run the installed app and press unlock. wait and let it reboot. After this, your Asus splash screen will become white & bright.
16. Now do a clean flash for any custom rom.
You guys can try it. :highfive:
Note: Few users are having "No Camera" issue for unlocked bootloader. This method will not fix that. Sorry about it, I'm a victim as well.

Yes, it won't work for your device as you have a501cg. You need to get the official unlock tool from this site: https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone_5_A501CG/HelpDesk_Download/
Before that you have to flash or downgrade to *.30.zip firmware.

Actually a501 has the SAME unlocker as a500cg. There's only one app that unlocks a wide variety of Asus devices. (Zen6's different afaik).
And we tried to install 2.21.40.30 for base as well and it changed nothing.
And unlocker application doesn't change the working mechanism of phone (we decompiled it).
So, are you sure that you tried to use heavy applications like Youtube or some games?
If you get any user that reports freezes gone; i will try it again with your method.
Thanks for your contribution. Good luck with your method.
Btw assuming you have a500cg, that phone can be fixed imo.

Bro, I'm a heavy user. Many of us had faced forced close for 8 ball pool game. I had it too but after this method no forced close happened again. I'm not sure whether a500cg and a501cg have same app for unlocking. It's a bit confusing to me as they have different sites to download their firmwares and tools. But I'm sure, what ever the phone is a500cg or a501cg, the tool will work if the user has *.30.zip firmware installed.

Yes because the tool seeks for if.bin on firmware folder and it copies to the sysfs. (You're doing same thing on fastboot when flash ifwi if.bin)
So that's why I don't believe the unlocker tool fixes something.
Anyway, thanks; I will wait for another users that solved the issues with your method and then take a look with my phone.

[DISCUSSION] Galaxy A10s successfully rooted! (SM-A107M)

Rooting A10s with Magisk [Very Early Root]
Hello community. I wanted to post my progress on trying to root this device and maybe was hoping for some pointers.
Unfortunately the steps are somewhat complicated, especially since we don't have a custom recovery.
Would appreciate some of the more experienced developers if you could give me a hand, since my knowledge is very very limited (don't know how to compile my own custom recovery, have 0 knowledge on even using git hub lmao)
Thanks for reading, here's what I got so far
Things to know about the A10s
It is a System As Root device
It is an AB device (after Android 10 update)
It has no custom recovery as of yet
The process may also work for the F variant
The process I used to root with Magisk is here: https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html
Special thanks to @topjohnwu for his very detailed guide
Ok and now well, to explain where I'm currently stuck. The final step to finish installation off is to reboot to stock recovery and wipe data. I'm guessing that this will fix the signal problem I have, but can't know for sure until I try. The problem with that is that topjohnwu states as follows:
We now want to boot into the stock recovery to factory reset our device.
Full data wipe is mandatory! Do not skip this step.
Press Power + Volume Down to exit download mode. As soon as the screen turns off, immediately press the combo key to boot to recovery (e.g. on the S10 it is Power + Bixby + Volume Up). Since we want to boot into stock recovery, continue pressing the volume up button until you see the stock recovery screen.
Use volume buttons to navigate through the stock recovery menu, and the power button to select an option. Choose Wipe data/factory reset to wipe the data of the device.

The problem here is that no matter how hard I try, I can't boot to stock recovery
I can boot the device as follows
System+No magisk (signal works here)
System+Magisk (RIL broken)
However I simply can't boot to stock recovery. Apparently I need to leave the VOL + button pressed and keep it pressed but it's simply not doing anything. Even using adb to reboot to recovery and holding the VOL + button since it even shuts down is not doing anything.
I don't know where to go from here, I simply can't boot to stock recovery
Would really like to know suggestions
Thanks for reading!
Currently I am hosting a Telegram group for anybody that wants to follow development as it progresses. But for questions, please keep them here on XDA

I managed to boot to stock recovery by pressing power vol down and plugging usb in at the same time I think.
Update: Well, I flashed stock recovery with Odin. Managed to boot directly to recovery, wiped data and immediately flashed the magisk patched recovery. However this still did not fix the broken signal problem, as I expected. The search for a fix is still on.
you should follow topjohnwu's instructions for samsung devices..
edit: maybe you are, they are included in the link you posted but youre not specific in the steps youre taking for others to help you.
you could also im sure follow same steps as F variant id think but dont blame me for troubles lol

Yeah I'll try that method in due time. But I'm really in no hurry since I've got root anyway and I just use it from time to time, so I just reboot to system+magisk only when I need to and just boot system normally every other time.

Hey op, did you flash magisk with odin using patched file? if you did, could you share your patched file and the firmware version you used? Odin keeps failing when i try to patch.

I think I'll have some time this weekend, I'll try to put a in-depth tutorial with all the files required.
But, can you tell me the error you get on Odin and/or any error messages on your phone?
By the way, the signal problem has been reported on other occasions.
It seems to be a problem on this Mediatek SoC
https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/issues/1801
topjohnwu seems to have just brushed it off so it doesn't seem like it's going to get fixed anytime soon
Sorry for butting in and my ignorance...I need HELP!

It is an A-Only device
It has no custom recovery as of yet
The process may also work for the F variant
The process I used to root with Magisk is here: https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html
Special thanks to @topjohnwu for his very detailed guide
Ok and now well, to explain where I'm currently stuck. The final step to finish installation off is to reboot to stock recovery and wipe data. I'm guessing that this will fix the signal problem I have, but can't know for sure until I try. The problem with that is that topjohnwu states as follows:
The problem here is that no matter how hard I try, I can't boot to stock recovery
I can boot the device as follows
System+No magisk (signal works here)
System+Magisk (RIL broken)

I have a Samsung A10S (a107M) had it for a few days - I cannot get the bootloader unlocked. I can get it to the screen where it says long press vol up to unlock bootloader. When I do this it reboots, and starts 'normally' PLEASE if anyone can help I will happily buy you a beer!

Just keep trying, and leave the VOL + button pressed even after it reboots. I remember last time I rooted, it took me approximately 4 or 5 attempts to finally get bootloader unlocked. Keep doing it until you can finally see the message that your bootloader is unlocked.
Hii there...
I've been trying to root my SM-107F(Samsung a10s) for months now with no luck, honestly speaking am very close to giving up even I wanted it so bad...And I've tried almost every top recommended methods out there, including using kingoroot,kingroot,irobot,magisk,supersu...But still no luck, the main problem is that I can't reboot successfully into bootloader and when I do so by clicking the vol up and power button simultaneously it just reboot...Plz anyone who has successfully rooted their Samsung a10s plz help me and I know all the side effects and disadvantages of rooting a mobile device including bricking and void warranty and am willing to take the risk...So if there is someone out there who can help, your help will be most appreciated.

If you have Telegram, you can join our group and we can give you help in real time. TWRP will most likely be released soon so rooting is going to get a lot easier, if you can wait.
