No Insurance on device, Trick how to change that anytime even after 60 days limit! :) - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+

First you need a older phone that was on your account or a dummie sprint phone
Activate it on the website to replace your current device you want insurance on
Wait 1 to 3 hours for everything to take (If it doesnt right away you wont be able to go on, just wait trust me took it 3 hours for me)
go back to activate a new device on the web site
make sure your dummie phone shows as current
add device you want insurance in activate new device
In services, choose to add the total protection program (Give it another 1 to 3 hours but youll notice the 13 dollar insurance has been added and you can use it anytime now)
Normally after 60 days on a new device you cant add insurance but if you do this right you can add it anytime. I did it all in the same day and sprint is replacing my phone even though I have't paid for the 13 a month yet. I've had my device since august at well.

If your within the 60 days of getting the device, I've talked to bestbuy, sprint, and samsung and they all gave me a hard time and wouldn't do it period. My phone was bought in august. You got lucky if they didn't give you a hard time.

Did I brick my S3?

Okay, I got a Galaxy S3 about a week ago, rooted, installed rom manager and left it mostly alone...... Today I tried to install a rom and it is now completely unresponsive(no matter what buttons I hold down)
This is what I did:
1. Flash Clockwork using Rom Manager
2. selected "Install rom from SD" and picekd the rom I had downloaded(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1735850)
3. rom tried to install but failed, error code 7 i believe
4. CWR warned me that the phone might try to Flash the system recovery on boot and asked if I wanted to prevent it... so I let it do it's think
5. phone *reboots* but does not turn back on.....
When I plug it in to the computer it is recognized for a second(windows does the usb beep) then fails....this also happens when I try the button combinations
Pulling the battery/sd has NOT helped
flashed an international rom phone might be bricked. Hopefully it didn't actually flash and you can odin the phone back to stock.

No, I can't unfortunately....... Is there any way to un-brick it(I can't get it replaced by t-mo because I got it on ebay) whether it be a paid service or some magic combination of holding down the buttons?

Mistyped....... And how would I go about getting samsung to replace my phone? I already made a Samsung account, but when I try to register the phone to my account it wants to know where/when it was originally purchased...... Things that I don't know
If you do the exchange through tmo, it will go through just fine regardless of where you bought it. This is not an invite to argue, I'm stating facts from experience.

I suppose they could have changed it since I did it the last time (Sept) but that would be crazy if they did. I get most of my phones by trading etc. And have always had them replace phones if needed (since g1 times). But I've never actually said to them that I didn't buy it new, and I've never had them ask. Maybe it's one of those things that it would be too much work to keep track of, but they can deny it if they know? Cause it could be from a different line on the account that had an exchange a few months ago so the imei wouldn't match the receipt anyways. They would need to hire an entire department to go through all of the exchanges.

JTAG it from mobiletechvideos. Don't use the warranty method. You made the mistake so man up and pay the $60 or so it will cost for them to fix it. They have great support and will keep you informed the whole way through. Using the warranty method will just jack insurance and cost up for everybody that does their homework before flashing willy nilly. Good luck.

Hawaii? I don't get it. ALL Hawaiian destined phones were to be shipped UPS Ground per ATT corporate policy. Also, all those that paid for overnight shipping were to be sent via the Post Office. Those that requested 2 week delivery were to be sent Overnight FedEx etc, per the well thought out, sharp and intuitive customer-driven VP level executive policy. Why all this confusion?
Mine arrived but clearly its been opened and was resealed with tape. Anyone else have that? Is this normal?

Actually, if you cancel after even one month, you can still pay monthly for the phone itself until it's completely paid off or you can do the lump sum payment. Once it's paid off, you can get SIM unlock from T-Mobile so you can use the SG4 on other compatible carriers.

That is right. However, that doesnt mean you are free from paying for your phone you just purchased. You will still be responsible for your phone and it will be locked to tmobile until you pay it off. So really, there is no merit to out of tmobile unless you are planning to unlock it urself which is illegal in usa right now.

No. I'm hip to the 'current news'. The current news didn't divulge any specific details (that I found) regarding T-Mobile being in the no interest loan business.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
They've been in that business for a while now. The last 3 devices I got (even before the switch) were $99-down (usually with a MIR taking it to $0) and x a month for 3-6 months, or the same amount up front.
Now that the switch has happened, the # of months has gone up but that is really it..

check that out .. might help some people understand Tmobiles Value Plan... basically you pay full price for the phone over time .. think they want to have people lose the grandfathered minutes per month plan.. its not for everyone.. think about it and good luck!
Actually the phone is $680 with taxes , you pay $150+$50 in taxes and pay $20 mo for 24 mos.

Fears and Rooting

I have always rooted my phones. I've walked out of the Sprint store and rooted my last phone after getting a refurbed phone from insurance. This time with my new note 4, it seems different. I am half afraid to because of the Knox tripping. What happens if say in 1 year my phone has some sort of issue and I need to turn it back in for insurance? Before I just un-rooted and took it back in. Now there is no reverse for the knox. I could really care less for the knox and have no need for it.
Any suggestions for calming my fear?

I'm in the same boat as you man. This is the 1st device I haven't rooted in many years. The main reason that I'm not is I'm on the easy pay plan so in one years time I walk in to sprint, hand them this, pay the taxes which are next to nothing, and walk out with the note 5. So long as I don't mess with it. Which btw so far if you do root you will trip Knox and currently there is no way to reverse it. I'm kinda ok with it with this device though as I had the Note 2 before this running cm11 and while it was good something always went wrong somewhere. I'd take a pic and the phone would freeze or something and never ended up getting the pic/vid so it's kinda nice having a device as good as this and everything actually works.

To my knowledge tripping KNOX does not affect your upgrade eligibility. The policy simply says the phone must still be in good condition. That is all. They just want to be able to sell it a refurb and they can actually have it sent to Samsung and have KNOX reset. It can be done with JTAG equipment and knowing which bit needs to be flipped.

Maybe. But they did say they cannot accept a rooted device. Whether or not they actually knew what they were talking about I don't really know. But there are ways to bring it back to stock though.

Nothing to be afraid of sprint doesn't check if you're rooted or not

I'm a technician for Sprint and it isn't that big of a deal since we can just flash it all back to stock. And for upgrade purposes the reps in my store don't even know what rooting is so it shouldn't be a huge issue for that either.

Thanks. That's good to know. I've rooted and flashed many custom roms for years but never really knew that end of it. What about the KNOX tripping thing? I thought I heard before here on xda of people all of a sudden getting whacked with a $400 or so hit on their bills because they messed with their devices. Any insight on that? Or is that a non issue these days?

Yeah I'm not even sure how true that is. I think I'm gonna root tonight. If anything I'll at least be able to get rid of all the damn ads on this thing. That's one of the most annoying things about not being rooted. Lol.

What problems are you talking about? I've rooted a lot of phones over the years. Just wasn't sure about knox. Otherwise it was a go!

rooting itself causes no problems. -_- Problems arise when you start using titanium backup or removing apks manually, and you don't know EXACTLY what they do. Many resources out there will tell you, and sometimes a friendly question in a thread may solve your problems quickly. One good lol for you is : If you use xposed thats typically going to get blamed first for your issues xD

Im a sales rep at a sprint store and I can say with certainty that we do not check to see if a phone is rooted when we do a giveback on them. honestly the only thing we check is if it turns on and if the screen is broken. most of us wouldn't care regardless, ive even given advice on rooting to a few customers ive helped.

Just be ready to pay the premium.

I see it this way - you have to by insurance anyways. I could buy a house with what I have given Asurion over the years. If my phone goes down it costs $200 to get another. If I have to trade it in the claim will be for broken hardware. They will get enough pieces to identify what it was.

The only problem I'm worried about is that I won't get my copy of 5.0 if I root before I get it. Is there a way around that?

Maybe. But they did say they cannot accept a rooted device. Whether or not they actually knew what they were talking about I don't really know. But there are ways to bring it back to stock though.

I think you are fine on a trade because the only reason you would need to trade is if it is not working. If it is for a repair it is going to be the hardware anyways. I've taken rotted phones in for repair and they didn't even know.

Is there a way to bring it back to stock right now. I've never owned a phone this close to it's release date. I haven't had a chance to look in to what's out there yet. I want to root with just ADB and not use a recovery but I can't get the USB through with out superuser and if I did get him in there I think he would be dead before I could tell him about the Knox.
question... Just to be sure...
I have been waiting to see the lollipop update before rooting my note 4.
But... if I were to root the phone (and add TWRP)... but did not install a new rom, would I still be able to get the OTA update from Sprint without issue? Will the OTA break root? Could the update brick my phone?
Alright Im also in the same boat as you guys. I been rooting phone since htc hero loll. Slow piece of **** lol. Anyway im scared of tripping knox and having a fear if anything happen to my phone like crack screen water damage etc. I have a best buy insurance and not sure if i do root it and best buy can still find out if my phone is rooted and my warranty is voided after that so waste of $12 a month. So what should I do?

My note 7 updated to 60% battery cap

I am mad at samsung and myself because accidentally clicked the annoying update reminder. so it updated to the 60% battery cap and annoying recall pop up message.
Is there anything to reverse this? root or something?? or at least anything to get rid of the annoying recall pop up message??
Sorry if this is the wrong section.
Note 7 t-mobile US version.
Was this the original or 2nd version with green battery...was just curious

Even if you root it I'm hearing you can only get back to 80%. Not sure how that could be. Even if you could get back to 100%, that only buys you until they block the IMEI. I got an S7E and it'll do fine until S8+ or something comes along.

They are not blocking imei in the US. It's very easy to get back to 100% now
no IMEI blocking and its very easy to get 100% as mention. I don't know why people just dont search. The useful threads are right at the top as well.
If you chose to keep the phone you have a responsibility to keep it working. Spend some times on the forum OP and learn.

i know its frustrating, people are too lazy to read anything even to help themselves.
and you said it perfect : if you choose to keep the device its your responsibility to keep it working.
