will never be as good as oled but surprisingly does a pretty good job

Well it gets the job done could be better

Compared to my G3 its miles better. and compared to that over saturated piece of garbage i would say job well done LG.

May not compete with the S7 OLED in terms of black levels but I'm pretty certain the colours are more natural and realistic.

The colors are more natural and the contrast (black levels) is just too damn good compared to my G3. Well done LG!

Do you find the G5's screen cooler?
I tried a side by side comparison with my G3 at full brightness, the G3 screen has a red tint to the white, while the G5 has a turquoise tint... I wonder which one is actually closer to real colours

Honestly, to my eyes, the screen is on the neutral side. Not cool, not warm. Pretty good imo.

All I can really say is the black is pretty good for a non amoled screen, if you want to compare it a amoled screen, may be in a few years time, at present nothing comes close to amoled.

Thanks! I guess colour accuracy is very subjective when it is not on paper
I found the white a bit more white at full brightness, but a bit bluish at lower brightness, if only we could correct it! haha, Lg has this strange tendency to make cooler displays since the G4 (the V10 has it too) They go around 7800-8000k instead of the ideal 6700k

If i let a brigth image for ~10 minutes the pixels stuck in this image for ~30 minutes and for that time i can see in grey that image.

Guys, do you have screen bleed on black with your G5s?

brightness is contrast? its weird

Something odd iv noticed , when i turn up the brightness.. it does not feel like the brightness is being turned up it feels like extreme contrast the colors get deeper and the whites are just painfull to see(too bright).. sure the colors look great but it seems wrong while playing games as if im lacking gamma.
Iv tried changing screen mode it doesnt help too much, everything seems too dark in games (compared too xpeira z ultra and ipad mini retina)with glaring white contrast and unnaturally deep colors. (iv used amoled on the s4 so its not the saturation thats bothering me)

This sounds very weird, mine has much better brightness than the ipad. Sounds faulty to me, my one all the colours just get brighter as you would expect.

im experenceing the same, if i turn up the brightness it starts look look washed out. it is as you said, its like its playing with the contrast. its more noticable when playing a video that has dark scenes in it, blacks start to look dark grey
more users on a thread in the general section have noticed this, as some have pointed its an issue with the gamma not being calibrated properly and samsung using a non traditional method of back lighting as per anandtechs review.

I read that the screen has a white pixel next to the rgb pixels. Could it be be the white pixel is used for brightness and now results in a black screen looking grey? Haven't noticed it being a problem as I set it on auto.

yes that could be it, i only notice it in a dark environment, however its not an ideal way to do brightness. Auto does not work for me at all its always too dim.

You can change the white balance, but that's about it. You should be happy because most other amoled screens are painfully oversaturated. I feel this is just the right amount.
I dont know but does it look accuracy as LCD?I mean all amoled screen are pinky

I agree. Most AMOLED screens, like Sammy's, are way too rich in color. This is the first display I've seen to hit it just on the mark. I prefer a little washed out/natural display, in terms of color balance. This phone has an excellent color pallete.
This phone was way way better whites than the Note 4 and 6P I had before.
However at low brightness Greys appear greenish. Very noticeable.

I've never held a oneplus 3 and I've read the anandtech review but would average Joe notice? Most reviewers said it's good nothing outstanding.
Unfortunately my Oneplus 3 has an unevenness in color display!
In the upper part of the screen, the colors become a bit more reddish, while in the lower part the tint becomes a bit more greenish.
This especially can be seen when turning brightness down.
Once seen, this can't be unseen and makes me very much think of returning the unit!
Is there anything else who has different hues in different parts of the screen?
Blueish
I don't like the blueish colours, oversaturation and small text rendering on my OP3.
Even colour temperature setting can't fully fix the blueish colours
Not sure why a lot of people are having issues with their contrast and saturation. My display is perfect. Blues are completely accurate, as well as every other color. This is hands down the best display I have seen. I love it. Blows Sammy's over exuberant color pallet away. This is all I did to adjust the display...
I had the Nexus 6P and that AMOLED is probably the best calibrated display and much sharper than OP3. I don't think it's a huge deal breaker here since the phone is so much faster, easier to hold and use. I really wanted to like the 6P but it just didn't have enough customizations even though custom roms are plenty.
I love the display. Its so much better than on the 1+1. Those blacks and colors.
I'm a very picky user for most everything on my phone. I have extreme ocd. I believe everyone's screen is different. My display in my OP3 is better than my S6 and my S4 as well as my honor 5x and Nexus 6p. It may also be preference because as I do love amoleds, this one is a bit duller than usual samoleds but more accurate. I have no color transitions no color issues at all. I have my white balance bar about 88% up to max. Personally, to me its looking excellent. Everyone's screen must differ.

Completely agree with you. At first I thought it was just me. Coming from various devices including 6P,G4,Moto X Pure and N5 the screen on this 3 is terrible.
I've always preferred AMOLED over LCD as I found it easier on the eye. Returning my 3 as it's causing me eye strain (don't play games,Facebook etc).

Clarity/resolution

The OnePlus 3 has a crazy crisp display. Just kidding, this is automated text so who knows if this screen is any good. So, you be the judge! A higher rating indicates that it's extremely sharp and clear, and that you cannot see pixels with your naked eye.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
The display is definitely better than what weve had on the previous OnePlus phones. I did find the color saturation a bit weird coming from the LCD of the OnePlus One to the OAMOLED of the OP3, but it's a pretty beautiful display to look at.
I haven't been able to compare with another AMOLED screen, but compared to my LG G3 at full brightness, the OnePlus 3 screen colours doesn't seem as vibrant as an AMOLED screen should be. One other thing is that I've been so used to QHD on the G3, I can really notice the drop back to HD. Nonetheless, the OnePlus 3 is bang for buck no matter which way you look at it.
I just have one word. Gorgeous.
The display is sharp enough, bright enough and the color saturation is good. And definetly better than previous OP screens

You notice because it has PenTile arrangement, not because it's FHD.
I've gotten used to it now, the screen is still quite amazing on the OP3. Tbh, I've always found it funny how phone manufacturers are sucked into the res race given some of the drawbacks of pushing a larger amount of pixels.
I'm moving from my Moto X (2014) to OP3, and trust me the white balance is WAY off towards the blue end. I read a review which did display tests on both the AMOLEDs of X and OP3, and apart from the white balance, OP3 has a slightly better screen and/or screen calibration than the X (which is 2 years old).
Overall I still find it blue after I switch from the X, but it's a beautiful screen nonetheless.

Just got mine, haven't even turned it on yet, but AFAIK (from reviews) white balance is adjustable in the settings. Play around with the slider if it looks too blueish to you.

Yep, thanks! Did that but forgot to mention. Though be careful when you change the slider, there's no reset option in case you want it as it came (not a biggie but a reset option would've been helpful).

Text on my phone looks blurry and more like a 720p screen, particularly visible in landscape.
I've applied for a replacement. Let me see how that turns out to be.

That's going to be the downfall of pentile. (The pixel arrangement of the screen) I don't think you have a bad display.

That's a bummer. Didn't know it'd turn out this bad.
I really hope I had a defective piece though. Text looks really bad on it. It ruins the experience of using a premium phone.
Guess I'm really bothered by it because my previous phones were the 6P and Note 4 and I use a retina MacBook Pro; all three had/have excellent displays).
I was very worried about the display when I have heard many saying that it is not sharp due to the pentile arrangement.
Just got mine few hours ago, and here is my personal opinion:
The display looked sharp and crisp, the pentile matrix is hardly visible unless you look at the screen very closely, but under normal usage distance, the display is excellent.
It is true that true resolution on any pentile display is less than the ideal, and this artcile explains it: https://medium.com/@suyashsrijan/1080p-pentile-is-not-true-1080p-9951b9e5c2ee#.w8v3hh7vz
According to it, the effective resolution becomes 326ppi rather than 401ppi.
FYI, resolution of iphone 6s is also 326ppi.
To me the screen of OP3 is way better than the OP2. Everything just looks nice. My OP2 was calibrated with kcal and OP3 has similar calibration. Only the dark grey is a little on the blue/green side.
Disappointed with pixelation caused by the PenTile matrix. Sure, the display is great (much more vibrant and brighter than my outgoing iPhone 6 Plus) but with my perfect near vision small text and edges of icons etc all appear slightly jagged. From a normal distance it's not too bothersome but I can always see it. The 1080p RGB matrix panel on the iPhone appears instantly sharper in comparison but I still wouldn't say its a match as the colour, contrast and brightness are all far better on the OP3.
Resolution is too low for VR, but for everyday tasks is perfect.
I am hesitating to buy a 1+3 device mainly for the mixed comments about screen/display quality.
Can any owner of 1+3 post some pictures of any classical webpage (bbc, cnn, xda, ...) magnified gradually, up to the maximum (125%, 150%, ..., 300%, ..)?
Thanks
Ive been using the G3, and i dont care what anyone says, there is a huge difference between 1080 and 1440. The text looks smudged. However I cant stream Youtube nor Anime at 720p or higher anywas so it wont matter for me.
Still on the fence of buying it.

Very good display but poorly calibrated. Has a blue tint like 1st gen amoled. Have to say I am used to it by now and enjoy the screen.
Sent from my FRD-L09 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
The contrast is a little too high, and details in the shadows are lost. When watching a movie with lots of night scenes, such as Daredevil, I can barely see what is happening. I'm pretty sure it increases contrast when a video is played. I've noticed that when I play a youtube video then rotate the screen the video suddenly gets darker.
If you're a stickler for accurate calibration then apparently it's not great in this regard. But IMO the screen looks very good and I even got unsolicited compliments on its clarity and colours (what most people like i guess) from users of iPhone 6 and Galaxy Note 4.
Anandtech has science-y exact measurements in their review. I agree with what other people are saying. The whites are a bit bluish, but I'm not bothered by it. The Nougat/EMUI 5.0 update adds a Night Mode/blue light filter that I didn't like at first, but does seem to be easier on my eyes at night.
The contrast is good.. I dont have anything to complain for the contrast.. the colors and the black I like on this one
One of the best IPS on the market. I don't complain a weak smoked. Yes, the black on that kind of screen is real black and bla bla bla, but guys, IPS screens are way better and resistant, and the adaptive brightness on this smartphone is excellent.
Can't complain much here. Kinda 50/50
Excellent display, no issues though
crisp n sharp display with good colours
Very black blacks.

LG G7 Screen Grainy effect???

Am i the only who has noticed like this grainy effect on the display if you really focus on it. Its more noticeable on white backgrounds
? You're not alone, my screen is the same- full of very faint horizontal banding. I thought at first it was due to the cheap plastic screen protector I had on it. While I need to look closely to see it, it is quite annoying. In the BBC news app the red section at the top of the screen is where I first noticed it. I love the phone but for all the shouting LG has made about the screen, this is not acceptable. Personally I'm not sure it's a fault, rather LG's inability to produce a half decent phone screen- look at the issues people had with the v30/Pixel 2XL's screens and my G4 was a hot mess of image retention after 6 months. ?
Can you try to check it with a different wallpaper to see if it is due to the app or background
My screen is perfectly fine and crisp.

LG G7 has slightly higher resolution than the overrated Galaxy S9/Note 9. LG G7 is better anyday.
