Strange Microsoft is telling us, older WP7 devices have hw issues

We know that it's quite easy to add a new language to WP7 during upgrade to Mango. It's just a little change in registry.
So some people here have directly asked MS on their FB about a possibility to add a new language (Czech)to their phones officially.
Well, the response is quite funny. They are telling us that they can not tell much details because of their partners but the problem is caused by HW.
In my opinion it's a lie, I can not imagine any HW limitation which would be causing this on all phones released before Mango and I also doubt that same phones before Mango and after Mango are somehow HW different.
It's Microsoft. If they could get away with saying it's cause of High Tide, they would.
Get used to that.
Do you have a link?
In Taiwan to add Chinese to a WP7, you have to take your phone to an HTC store and have them re-flash it. The reason given is that it is not possible to just add a new language to the ROM and then update via Zune.
I'm not clued up on the technical, but this does indicate that there is some hardware restriction in place. This must be costing HTC and MS a fair amount of money, so it's safe to assume if it were possible to roll it out online, they would!

As for CZ not being available for current EN phones, I do understand that - additional languages do take more ROM space, and not all phones might handle that well.
Anyway, nobody is entitled to get "free CZ" upgrade when they purchased EN phone.

Maybe they should have brought an Android, iPhone, or Blackberry that comes with that "free CZ" upgrade, instead?
That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.
Yes, people in countries where CZ is an official language where Windows Phone is marketed and sold are entitled to a "free CZ" upgrade.
Maybe the issue has something to do with phones with a physical [English] keyboard?
I don't think it is matter of HW keyboard - they deployed Czech keyboard (without T9 of course ) in Mango on all phones.

WP7.0 phones were sold and marketed in CZ by HTC, Samsung, etc., not Microsoft directly. They were all EN versions and without any Marketplace support, not even free apps worked. You had to fake your Live ID to be from US/UK and get UK credit card (like Moneybookers) to download and purchase apps.
Horrible user experience. Of course, sales were extremely low. On the other hand, you could buy (formerly) 12 000 CZK phone for 5 000 CZK. Of course, there never was any guarantee EN -> CZ upgrade will be available.
With Mango, phones are not only getting CZ language, but also Zune SW is in CZ, Marketplace works now, and there is Czech support hotline.
But changing languages is not common. Unless you have "Windows 7 Ultimate" you cannot install all languages in existence. And you probably cannot switch to Chinese, Japanese or Korean on your US Windows Phone, right? So, even if I would love to see super easy US -> CZ upgrade, nobody is entitled to get one.

So do you really think that Omnia 7, HTC HD7 or any other phone released before the Mango has different ROM size than a same model after the Mango? Seems not to be very likely.
I have no idea. CZ is working well on my Omnia7, as an added language to existing set of languages (DE, EN UK, EN US, ES, FR, IT), but it might not be feasible for all WP7 sets.

Sure they have different ROM size. The space of IMGFS is pre-defined by content size + some amount of free blocks for updating . And by installing Czech, you might fill this empty space is what they think probably.
Which doesn't explain why there couldn't be new official ROM to flash, just as they did with Thaiwan.
Oh and Czech language has literally few megabytes only.
That is silly excuse.

They could do an official flashing program like in Taiwan, but seems they've decided against it.
Taiwan is home of HTC so has hundreds of HTC stores; Therefore it was easy for them to offer HTC customers this official update (notice how LG, Samsung or Dell products aren't being given the same mangro upgrade). Without stores, the burden would fall on the carriers to do it; and they obviously don't want to..
Good news is, the ROMs are all publically available, and you can probably install it yourself (depends on your phone).
Omnia 7. Maybe newly sold phones with Mango will contain Czech language. Maybe not. Who knows.
I don't really need or want Czech, I am fine with English. Using phone in Czech seems weird to me, I got used to having phone in English. Mostly when all apps (except two, where one of them is mine) are in English too .

I was on nodo, non-branded unlocked LG optimus 7. I had no Chinese support until I installed mango beta 2. I didn't need to go to a shp or anything.. Did everything over Zune.

Please read the OP.
I did read it, did you?
OP talks about deploying Czech language, I talk about deploying Czech language for keyboard.
Yea. And if you have an English Language keyboard on your phone (hardware keyboard), how will that work? He said MS said it was a HW issue. Perhaps the Soft Keybaord isn't the factor here.
Just putting it out there...
What phones are sold in TCH?

On the HTC T9188 unlock

Dear heroes:
Very pleased to XDA, the first to introduce myself, I, surnamed Li, from China, Xiamen, in China there are three major operators, China Mobile is the first, followed by China Unicom and China Telecom, in January 2011, I China Mobile spent 5,000 yuan to buy the HTC T9188 phone, and click on the purchase of the two, after buying it really is the harm done, why do you say, because it is equipped with the system is WM 6.5 system, but with WM6.5 90% of the software is not compatible, the phone often crashes, freezes as long as you need to pull the battery, and the market for less than half of the machine, HTC also has a listing in the mobile phone A9188, A9188 is Android2. 3, sad ah! I and family often give HTC customer service, Microsoft China phone, mail, they really have been perfunctory we really too depressed, I'm looking for a forum on China HTC T9188 to unlock the phone, for the Android system, but unfortunately, in the China does not have such a technology, think about .... .. really sad, inadvertently see the XDA's name, but said most cattle technology Forum, I am very excited to see this, because I really English poor, so after using Google translator to complete.

Huawei vs Google

I recently got a notification that google will no longer be available to Huawei devices is this only for the new Huawei devices or is this for the old devices too? If this is for the old devices too then what will happen to the old Huawei android users? Will we still be able to use google services in our phones? This news is heartbreaking for Huawei users

New devices only. Both Huawei and Google confirmed that Google play services and security updates will remain as they are for current phones
this should be called ...
Trump against the rest of the world! What this person does is not sustainable!
he provokes what nobody wants ...
Sorry, but that's my opinion !!!

Putting Huawei in the us trade blacklist is ok... But why does it have to do with the Huawei customers outside the US. Till date i did not have any problem with Trump but this policy is too much to take... Although Huawei is one of the most popular phones in the market and it runs on android. Why can't Google change their base to some other place to avoid this kind of policy?
Stupid trump policy

It's not very easy for a company the size of Google to just move out of a country. Even though Huawei is the second best selling android phone company, it's still not financially viable to move HQ to a different place
---------- Post added at 08:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:46 PM ----------
Also there is still the option that Google may be whitelisted from the new policy. It's still beeing discussed
It's interesting how some comment on Trump policy as stupid and devastating which might be true but from the same ranks I never heard complaining about Chine doing even worse for years. Their smartphones don't have google products cause they are banned from China if I understood correctly. Now when someone finally strikes back, we should call him stupid? I'd rather call him tough. So let's really consider who started it.

Yes we should call him stupid because his decision is affecting the entire world not just China. If he wanted to retaliate this way he should have tought about the consequences this brings to other people

On the contrary. We should call China government stupid because their decision first affected whole Chine and now brought reaction with consequences to entire world. And if you think that it is wise to let someone dictate which products should be banned from his country no matter what consequences than really Chine is wise, and Trump also. But if his decision is stupid you should know that his decision is in fact reaction, while sole decision burden lies on China alone. And if you can't comprehend that, well, than you're not the one whose opinion on stupidity should matter among reasonable men. It was really time that someone gives China dictatorship a taste of their own recipe. For that I congratulate Trump.

I don't agree with you at all but I'm not going to start a discussion with someone on the Internet. Have a good day. (also saying people's opinion doesn't matter is not the right way of making an argument. People have different opinions)
Here's some facts and opinions to put on the table:
Huawei shouldn't be advancing this fast (power consumerism basically, just like us buying things we don't need), and USA government is scared with reason, and banned some stuff, this is OK.
USA, Google and Huawei should agree on a policy to only affect Google services on USA and not on all countries where Google is implemented, that's wrong.
Donald Trump needs to be teached something it wasn't in the past, but he's "grown up" by now and the parents weren't capable probably too. People with money aren't really happy I'll tell you that, it's just not true hapiness.
Google has too much power, which is somewhat controlled, but it's too much, even for the quantity of people managing it.
I agree with some people here. There must be actions, but the right ones.
Cheers,
AS

I didn't say things that you accuse me of. While you did say that WE should call POTUS stupid. That WE includes ME. So if you want to make impression that you respect different opinions maybe you shouldn't do it in the same thread where you say how EVERYBODY should call someone stupid. And then after you're given a sip of your own meal then you want to make a step back and pretend you stand for opinion diversity. Well that's stupid according to my opinion.
And also if you are not going to start a discussion with someone than it is your choice not to do it. But you did exactly the opposite here i.e. you did start a discussion with someone.
The president of USA is an idiot and that's a fact - just watch some documentaries. They are scared of 5G, they don't care about any smartphones Huawei makes. I really do hope Huawei sorts this out and if not that their Ark OS is going to surprise us all, even if it's just an AOSP or Linux mod. I do use Google services but after that stupid decision I have started doing backups to my local, Polish cloud services just in case that idiot does something to European Union. None of the EU countries banned Huawei and they don't plan to (Angela Merkel confirmed recently).
USA is loosing power, they will eventually start a serious trade war with the East because the East is just unstoppable now. Did you see the recent MWC in Barcelona? Not even a single, innovative tech from the West over there, everyone is enjoying the Chinese tech currently, they are HUGE in Europe and I hope it stays that way. We need more players on the market and who else could win with Samsung and Apple (all USA backed) if not Huawei?

I think they should learn with the elderly ones
My country itself has like more than 800 years and the size is like x100 times or more smaller than the USA XD which was created in 1700 XD.
And I'm not just talking about my country, but most of the countries in Europe as old as hell.
XD
Huawei can atleast start to release bootloader codes to their users of requested because atleast we have a chance to use custom roms available but rather they sent to let users give the unlock code
Majority of users don't care about locked bootloader.

Huawei P20 EMUI 10 Update for Europe Users

Hello Guys ! Reading everything related about this topic I mist say that I only found that Huawei P20 phone users will get an Update on later this month! Some of us got the settings update but nothing more so far! I think the update for us the Europe users will still take place in March wheb it was expected and the late October announcement is for Chinese users! What do you think
I am mainly interested of the dark theme despite the fact that there is a dark mode on Google play that fits well with the grey on black errors! Also I think that we are not able to use google pay recently because of the Trump Huawei forbiden software!
What do you think? :good:

Is there a way to change the Nubia Cyberpods language?

Hello,
I purchased a pair of Nubia Cyberpods not so long ago. Since I'm from a country in Asia where Nubia Global isn't available, I bought my Cyberpods from a third party store. Sadly, the accessories are in Chinese language.
Is there a way that I can change/flash it to the English language?
Addendum: I also bought the Nubia War Drum and yes, you guessed it right. It's in Chinese language.
I hope that someone can shed light to this.
