Emulatoring like a Boss | "Now you're playing with real Pow... Buttons!" #Turnand
Super Mario Vs Ash - the struggle was real.
Let me take the elephant out of the Room. We (@Turnand) have designed a Smart, Smartphone Case that can turn your Phone, into a Game Boy. With that outta the way:
So, if you’re reading this post, you probably have used an emulator before. Amiright? Well, emulating any handheld console on a Computer, works like a charm; albeit with one exception. These systems are not that demanding-“advanced”, to begin with, but the feeling a large monitor speaks when we are talking 160x144 awesome pixelated Pokémon art, is just wrong. Your 20ish inch FHD monitor has no power here. Your phone on the other hand; well that’s a whole other story. A story, with much more ups and downs, and options to explore, dare I say. Let’s jump in:
As a child I’d swear by my Game Boy, but in my teens, it got lost. It got lost, by a kid 2 blocks away from my place. Luckily, at around that time I got my first smartphone. A Samsung Omnia!
An amazing phone at the time- it was 2008 or so. It could emulate Pokémon, Super Mario, and even Final Fantasy ([email protected]) IX! Yep, a PS1 game! Ok, its specs would be laughable by today’s standards, but still. It was an amazing Pokémon-machine! But, anything out of the turn-based RPG genre and maybe puzzle games, was totally unplayable. Why? Well blame that resistive, smallish touchscreen.
Now fast-forward almost a decade. It’s 2016, and my daily driver is a LG G Flex 2. A 4G, octa-core, 5.5 inch, fHD monstrosity. So, why am I still complaining? Well, cause my original problem still persists! Smartphones and tablets were made with throwing birds to pigs in mind. None will ever consider them a real alternative to a console, until they get proper controls.
Ten-year-old me, beat Super Mario World Advance 2, on the GBA with no problems at all. To this day though, I’ve never even reached world 3 using an emulator, on any phone I’ve ever owned. A PC got’s proper controls, but simply doesn’t feel right to me. On the other hand, yeah, I have paired a Bluetooth controller to my Android phone before, but I love to see you balancing your 5inch phone, or even tablet, on your laps while holding a gamepad, on your daily commute. Everything game-boy-ish is called a hand-held, instead of a lap-top, for a reason!
That’s the need Turnand’s cases try to solve. That’s how the original idea spurred into our minds. This was a real life pain for us, and we believe that we are not alone in this. Gamers, and retro enthusiasts unite! Let’s take things in our hands for once. Literally grab yours now. We can’t change the past, but we can game comfier in the future – lol. We’ll be on Kickstarter on 29 June, 2016!
So this is Turnand’s take on the matter: The smartphone case we’ve created can transform your smartphone into a Game Boy; and trust us, oh it feels good. But no, we are not suggesting that you compromise your smartphone’s usability. In the end of the day, that social-media- feeder / cat-photos- viewer you call my phone, still has to and should always be ready to receive calls and texts.
Side Note:
We are a Start-Up taking its first baby stepps. So our website is still under development, but you can take a look, and we'd love to have you join us on Social Media! So our Facebook is awaitng, so does our Twitter, and some we also got some jazz going on Instagram !
Let me guess something, before wrapping this up!
And, if my guess is correct, then you will read the next paragraph! ‘Ere it goes: You also used up all the batteries from the TV remote, and the wall clock to feed your Game Boy!
Amiright?!
With that out of the way, allow me to clarify that our case / controller thingy, won’t need no batteries, charging, not even Bluetooth, Wi-Fi; no nothing! It’s just works, take my word for it. Or don’t, you can ask for a Beta Prototype, here!

Why you should get this phone.

So after getting my defy, I wondered why its such a secret among the general public - it has its own (awesome) tv advert, its really high quality, and on top of that it has android! Whats not to love?
Anyways here is a list of why any potential buyer should get this rather than a BB, iPhone etc etc
1. Android- maybe one of the more obvious reasons, but it is the most open mobile platform, meaning you can customize it exactly how you would like it rather than how a company thinks you should have it.
Supports a long list of software that any businessperson, gamer and social networker would ever need.
2. Toughness- Ever wanted to watch some youtube in the shower? well now you can, with the motorola defy anything is possible.
Ok maybe not, but still- there are many videos demonstrating how resistant this phone is to water scratches dust sand etc, so if you are one of those people who go through many phones then this is for you.
3. Screen- Soo its not the retina display, or a smexy AMOLED, but it is still amazingly beautiful at about 60% brightness(conserving battery ftw
3.7" takes up most of the phone, making it really small compared to desire, iphone etc which is nice, because wasted space kinda sucks.
4. Price- the most important point of all, its insanely cheap pricetag- £300/$400 ish for a phone that is(should be) competing with the iphone(one of the most sold phones ever, if you havent heard )
Notes:
-Can run angry birds with 0 to minimal lag -when ads appear
-Runs spyro on psx4droid at steady 50fps with minimal frames dropped (only one of my old psx games i tested so far)
-Best multitasking ability ever, wish moto included app switcher in the dropdown though
-1000 to 1100+ on Quadrant. Best score for stock 2.1? If this is the case, then it may beat some of the higher up(?) android models eg G1 when running 2.2, yey
-Decent camera at nighttime, much better than the reviewers have been saying imo. Much better than my old phone, marketed for its camera also 5mp. Obviously cant compete with actual cameras (10+) but then what phone can? excluding the n8.
-You WILL fall in love with swype. Even i was doubtful of its wizardry, however now i dont like typing normally(been about 5 days since i got it)
Real keyboards need swype (C) ?
-Personally i didnt notice the 'lag' in motoblur homescreen, its just their version of elasticity but kinda faily. Obviously switched to Lpro for 3d drawer and multidock. Dont care for the other crap.
Anyways, rant over
Hope you enjoyed the read and contstructive criticism/additional info welcome
These are the things which make me happy to be a defy's owner:
- First of all, the size of the screen compared to the size of the phone, no empty space, just a big screen covering almost all the front side, simply amazing!
- Water proof - wow.
- Great great performances! I know there were good hardware but i've been suprised looking at the score in the quadrant benchmark.
- Price, one of the cheaper phone ever if you consider specs and equipments.
- Android, a lot better than iOS and WP7 but, call me mad, not better than WiMo (i was developing WiMo apps for long time, by the programmer side i have to say there's no other mobile OS open and flexible as WiMo is).
I'm kind of in the same boat, left wondering.
I had a Froyo 2.2 based device before, with a 4.3" LCD and quite the fastest processor out there. I always found 4.3 way toooo big for my uses. The faster benchmark scores just meant my battery beeing empty earlier. I don't really care for the apple iOS hype, or for WP7 (play on both for a while).
What's really cool though is:
- It's water and dust proof/restistant. I have a life besides playing Angry Birds. I ski, hike, bike, I am actually out there when it snows or rains, or is blistering hot. I can drop the phone in the snow and it ain't dead. I can get rained out while bikeing without it crapping out.
- Motoblur. I actually do like it. I do like the Facebook/Twitter integration. I do like the fact I can upload pictures right away. Each Vendor (SE, Moto, HTC, Samsung) adds a little ontop of "stock" Android to differentiate their branch. Out of those Motoblur is actually the nicest I have seen.
- I do like the fact that Motorola has a Eclipse based developer suite that I can download without having to worry about missing bits and pieces, and then having a AVD that looks like my DEFY (ok, using a ARMV5TE emulation is a slight downfall ;-)). I do like the fact that Motorola opensources most of the bits and pieces, so that curious minds can look.
I used my BB 9700 for almost a year and switched to this phone a few days ago. First full touch screen phone I have ever owned and Im, suprisingly, happy with this phone. Fast, tough and sexy.
People should pick up the DEFY just based on the 3G reception alone. I'm so glad it has a OMAP 3630 as well. It clinched the purchase for me.

Fable Coin Golf, suprisingly fun and addictive

I just have to say wow, I mean this game is awesome. In all of the windows phone 7 lineup I'd say this game is only second to ilomilo. The premise is pretty simple, you take your puck, and in as few shots as possible make it past any array of goblins, skeletons, trees, whatever they might throw at you while collecting coins along the way. Sounds simple and boring but once you get to the later levels in the game it really becomes challenging to get that gold coin. Before I tried this I thought I'd be holding out for Super Monkey Ball next week before I picked up another Xbox live title. I was proven wrong, if you're not a big app purchaser I'm sure it will go down in price eventually but if you don't mind throwing out a couple of bucks for a game then this is awesome.
Playability- 10/10, the controls are amazing the geometry behind it is flawless and the game itself has a fun overtone with the narrators.
Replay value- 6/10, I could definitely play through this and come back for a round two after mastering it. I'm not putting it down until I've finished it 100 percent though.
Xbox live integration- 4/10, I love that I can transfer my gold over but if you're past the early levels of Fable 3 the amounts of money you'll make through this game really aren't that considerable... maybe throw in some special gear if we get certain achievements or something but the money... just seems like a cheap afterthought.
Overall- 9/10, the game is awesome but they always leave you expecting more when they promise integration with the associated xbox 360 game. Regardless though this game is definitely worth the purchase and I'd recommend it to anyone.
I downloaded the demo and I have to say, it was quite fun and I don't care for Fable at all. The game itself is just very well done, looks great, and is just plain fun.
I'll take a look at it in a bit

What do you use it for?

So, I'm in that "ooohhh shiny"(think Homer Simpson) thought process when it comes to looking at tablets. I'm trying to justify the purchase. The problem is I already have an Evo 3d and a laptop. So what can I use a tablet for?
Thanks!

eBooks, movies/tv shows on the move (or in the house while Im cooking), audio books, comics, a little adult entertainment too... rofl.
EDIT: And A LOT of web browsing and Pulse.
Ebooks, games, app development, web surfing.
My tablet was a present, I have a laptop, smartphone and several other computers. At first I wondered like you what's the point? Well it is far easier to transport than my laptop, my phone can WiFi tether so it works anyplace my phone has a signal and it is far easier to see than my phones 4" display.
I would not use the word "need" to describe the Acer tablet, but it fills a very nice niche between laptop and phone. I enjoy my tablet very much... I almost forgot to mention my phone does not have a front camera, with my tablet I can see my grandchildren 2000 miles away on Skype on demand. To me that's huge.
I only use my computer for eng design work, adb, and burning cds/movies for family anymore. Any other time i need to get on the computer, i grab the tab.

I also own the EVO 3D and a laptop, along with the A100. I am a geek (as a lot of people on these forums are) and when I decided I wanted a tablet I wasn't thinking "what can I use it for?" because I didn't care at the time. and i am glad I didn't ask because I might have seconded my decision. Here are some ways to use it to help decide (and ill be doing the A100 in specific not necessarily every tablet)
1) Portability: The A100 is 7in which means its a good bit larger than the EVO 3D in screensize yet substantially smaller in screen size (and thickness) of your average laptop or even netbook. This makes the device super easy to carry in a hand , or jacket pocket (hell I was able to get this to mostly fit in my jean pockets). And it is great for both 1 and 2 grip.
2) Web Browsing: Noting the size and portability above it easily makes for a great web browser. The screen on the A100 is large enough to view articles and hold the device comfortably with one or two hands. Its not a huge 10.1 in or 9.7in (iPad is 9.7in for comparison) so it does not require a two hand grip. Its great to be able to use the tab rather than having to bust out the full laptop or even settle for the EVO's "small" screen.
3) Portable Gaming: As you see I put "portable" gaming. It's a tablet not a Desktop or PS3 so its not going to play Skyrim or Modern Warfare, but it has a powerful dual core proccessor named Tegra 2 which is standard in most tablets now, and for good reason. This processor and its corresponding GPU make for a very powerful gaming experience in these small form factors. The smaller screen size , to me personally, makes for a much better gaming expierence compared to larger tablets because of an easier grip.
4): Movie Watching: This is debatable. Some people will disagree with good reason , but I think the tablet is great for movie watching. Its screen is a good size and at a nice HD 1280x600 resolution everything looks pretty crisp. Now some people will say that having a 10.1 in Tablet or 9.7 in is better for movie viewing , and thats preference.
Problems with the tablet: My biggest complaint now with the A100 is viewing angles. There is one angle (when holding in normal landscape 180 degrees) that when tilted washes almost all color. Its easily fixed by turning it 180 degrees Or you could just not tilt the tablet back.

LOL I too have Evo 3d, A100, and Prime =)
I used to do everything on my Evo 3d but after getting the a100 I did most my web browsing and gaming on it and I took it everywhere since it was so portable.
Then I got a Transformer Prime. When I'm at home I like to use the Prime until the battery runs out then I go for the a100. The big screen is nice. I use the prime to surf, read threads, email, gaming. Lately I havent been touching the a100 but I do when I want to play games on it that I can't on the prime. Mainly gameloft games. I think 7 inch is the best size for gaming. 10 inch for surfing or reading forums, but I do hate typing on it cause its so big and heavier so not as easy to type on as the a100. Prime is definitely faster out of the 3. But I think once a 7inch quadcore comes out I'll end up getting rid of the Prime and a100.
EDIT: Man too many thread open. I though I was responding to a Transformer Prime thread...lol. None the less..my response still applies. =)
Most of my usage is eBooks and Netflix, where I find it much better than a phone or laptop. There's also things like Facebook and email, but I probably do those as much or more on my phone or laptop. Web browsing is there too, but I still prefer the laptop for that, though it's still better than the phone for browsing.
Pr0n!!!!!
J/K
I use it for:
Portable media - great for video and audio. Took my fm transmitter, a100, and projector out with a few friends for a mock drive-in. Gonna do it again soon! Also I use it with NetFlix
Browsing - for web surfing, blog reading, forum reading.
Gaming - some Android games, but mostly through OnLive. Pretty awesome when using a PS3 controller and the projector. Everyone that comes in asks, " where the hell is your console? "
My son's entertainment - got a bunch of kiddy games. Unfortunately, when he gets too excited he tries the eat the a100.
Social Communication - I Skype with my family that aren't in the same city. When they want to see my son run around and play it nice not trying to follow him without looking stupid with a 17 laptop.... though it's a good workout. With Hey Tell I've been using this as a walkie-talkie with friends if I have quick messages to relay and I don't feel like texting or my phone is too far.
Creativity - Got Sketchbook and loving it! Evernote is gret for jotting down great ideas and sharing them if you want.
Financial records - it's nice to stay organized with mint.com any time, any where. Also, with Handy Scanner I've been scanning all my important docs. BTW, I have all my important life stuff and a100 backups auto synced through wifi, and saved onto my laptop and home server.
Security - I access my home security cameras through this tablet as a baby monitor and whenever I feel paranoid.
Each one of these I used to do all on my phone but with the larger screen/resolution and more power I find that using this tablet is much better to use. It's more portable than 10-inchers but just as good... at east for the same CPU family (Tegra 3's kill these). The price was great because of the drop that Kindle Fires initiated. So for my purpose and budget this is perfect. The a100 is my sidekick and personal assistant that I can't live without.
Oh, did I forget to mention pr0n! LOL

Use mine for a rather large amount of reading (have a nook color but the a100 is soooooo much better for when i decide not to read ebooks >.>) Then its gaming listening to music an ocasional video watching though now i'm gonna have to wait till root for ICS is out so i can do the flashplayer hack so i can watch hulu in desktop mode on the browser x.x before that though it was really good. I do own 2 psp's an they are good gaming devices but the screen is to small.... wish they made remote joy for android so i could use my tablet as a external monitor >.>
I am not always at my laptop. And the tablet fits in a pocket much easier. I use it for ebooks, netflix, web browsing, and email. And I can do it all from my bed, which my disability puts me is about 14 hours a day.

EBOOKS:
I use mine a LOT for eBooks (especially technical manuals from O'Reilly). I'm also slowly "acquiring" all of my old magazines as .pdf files so that I can re-read them whenever I want to Here are some of the apps that I use for reading. ezPDF is the best (stand alone) .pdf reader. Aldiko is the best epub reader, and there are tons of free books available through the Kindle app. Overdrive is the app that you have to use to borrow ebooks from most libraries. It's pretty awesome to always have hundreds of books and magazines with me while carrying something not much larger than a singe paperback.

Comics are also pretty awesome on the tablet. Android Comic Viewer allows you to read comics in both of the formats you can "find" on the internet: .cbr and .cbz. Marvel also has a decent enough app for their Digital comics.

VIDEO:
Movies and (sort of) TV on my tablet are awesome. I like to fire up Hulu or Netflix while I'm in the kitchen or while I'm doing stuff around the house. With my tablet, I can move the "screen" around with me as I go. I also recently gave Amazon a bunch of my $$ for Prime, so I'll probably load the Amazon VOD app soon. I have a lot of my DVD's ripped as MP4's, so it's pretty easy to load movies on to the SD card and have them for offline viewing. The only down side there is that if I use a slow card, sometimes the video and audio will stop being in sync after about half way through a movie.
For Hulu, I use Flash Video Browser to watch (free) Hulu, instead of either paying for Hulu+ or modifying the Hulu apk to allow me to watch unrestricted. It's a paid app, but I got enough use out of it the first day to warrant the 99 cent purchase price.
Flash Video Browser
market.android.com/details?id=com.danielhlockard.flashbrowser
Using the HDMI out to a TV when I'm at a friend's house and don't want everyone to have to crowd around the tablet it pretty nice too.
AUDIO:
I haven't used it for audio books (yet), but it's pretty snazzy for streaming my library back to me from either Google Music or the Amazon Cloud Player.
GAMES:
I have a tone of them for free through the Amazon App Store. I also have a couple that are more optimized for the dual core CPU that I got through indie bundles, etc. I mostly stick to like 3-4 games at a time and slowly rotate through them. My buddy swears by the minecraft app . . allows him to play on his tablet while still "spending time" with his GF when she watches TV shows that don't appeal to him.
My web surfing on it tends to be spawned from using Facebook, twitter, Google+, etc. and finding cool links to check out. Although I may have taken my tablet with me when I was out for the day, and then tethered to my phone so that I could get on and check eBay bids from time to time ;-)
The Chrome to Phone app is pretty handy for web surfing as well. It allows you to send links from your browser to your android device(s) and be able to pickup reading on the phone/tablet.
No discussion would be complete without an obligatory mention of some of the other apps I keep installed:
Sketchbook
Evernote
Google Docs
Dropbox
Box.net
Youtube
MX Video Player
Twitter client of your choice
Tunein Radio
Wifi Radar
Wifi Analyzer
If you're going to use apps where you planning on doing a lot of typing (Evernote), you might want to invest in an alternate keyboard.
And, keeping in line with the rest of the humorous comments, I should probably also make the obligatory "adult material" comment. LOL
got it for a cool $200 at best buy, play loads of emulators on it (PSX, N64, SNES, NES). Skype is essential and Netflix of course. I actually think the battery lasts longer than I think it do considering I'm not a heavy user. I couldn't go wrong when I got it.
My number 1 use for this tablet is web surfing and RDP while I'm over at a friend's place. I don't want to bother bringing a whole laptop over for many reasons, but a tablet is great for just picking it up, poking around at a few things, and then setting it back down. Plus, this 7-incher fits perfectly in a jacket pocket or snugly in a pants pocket (not recommendable for walking long distances or carrying around all night, but to and from a friend's place isn't bad).
I also got it to play with Android a bit. I've got a Windows Phone, I've used iPod touches extensively, but I hadn't had a lot of hands-on experience with Android. I knew a lot about the OS, but just hadn't actually experienced it much myself on a day to day basis.
I don't think I would have bought a bigger tablet, as if I'm carrying around something that size I'd probably just want my laptop. I would consider getting a Transformer though.
My two cents....
I don't have a smart phone, so my tablet's primary purpose is to have my calendar right in front of me all the time. This is my second android tablet. Before that I used Dell Axims.
I also use it for email, facebook, games, music, and reading (prefer to use Kindle). My Acer sits on my office desk and plays music all day long. Plus I prefer to keep my personal stuff off my office pc, so this fills in nicely for keeping an eye on email and facebook.
I also use it as an electronic bible. The 7" size is just right. The bible app I've been using is MySword. You can find it on the market.

YES! The eumlator side of things is excellent, loving being able to play Harvest Moon on the SNES once more, oh, and lets not forget the excellent Chrono Trigger and the odd Gundam Game!
Love the sound quality for a small device, great for music in the kitchen, the missus likes to use it when I'm on the xbox every now and then and makes a great all rounder for me.
I probably use it for 90 per cent we b browsing, games and I quite like to write on the thing, through the use of the excellent JotterPad HD.

Android Wear not ready for 'Prime Time' - Returned 360

First I am die-hard Android enthusiast and have had several Androids over the years.
But after watching Apple Watch keynote address, it became clear to me that Wear is not yet ready for prime time. Wear is still in its infancy and looks like Google is not interested in giving finished product. Just like Android itself, Google will take its own time to develop slick and chic platform while we keep on buying mediocre/cut rate products.
Looking at screens from Apple Watch, either something drastic has to happen for Wear platform to bring functionality or just plain wait.
As for, Moto 360, form is a beauty but I couldn't justify investing 250 quids for 4-year old processor and average battery life. I am going to wait until other manufacturers come up with better watches (with up to date infrastructure) and Wear itself is more user friendly!
Good ride with Moto 360 for 72 hours, while it lasted....
I still don't understand why people think we care why or even that they are returning their devices.

Classic reply! But I invite serious thoughts and suggestions that other users can use to make an informed decision for buying Moto 360 or Wear device.
Thanks.

It's all screen and marketing until they actually put the thing on the market and it works.
Exactly how many choices do you have when buying an apple phone? Two models and a choice ($$$) of memory.... Wee! Did you catch the part where they said the iwatch will have about a day of power? Will that be average in 2015?
I will stick with cutting edge choice. You have more vendors producing wear watches the further we get so we have many more product cycles in play.

I think you are missing the point. I am not thinking about buying Watch, I would just like Wear to be more polished. Seems like if Google has strategy, they haven't forcefully executed the strategy so that average consumer knows what product roadmap will look like. As for power, today's TIZEN and some Wear watches do offer longer battery life. I am not sure why Moto chose to go with older processor and what implications it has on battery life.

Exactly my thoughts...until I see 2nd or 3rd cycle of products, I will sit on sidelines.

My point is the single producer product line and marketing is all apple has. They put on a good show. Problem is the features on their phones are old to most android users. They talked about a watch that isn't real yet. It's not on the market. It's os isn't on any device yet. So they market and market.
Android is our os. We have separate manufacturers using this os which leaves each manufacturer to market their own distinct features. I think Motorola marketed this watch pretty well. For using an old chip, they are still having a hard time keeping stock. I personally think mine is great. Battery lasts all day for me. Os improvements will come. Google promised them often. This is cutting edge on Google time, not apple. Sorry you didn't like it, hope by gen2 you will.
I find it funny that I've heard SO many people bad talk square smartwatches and say how ugly they are, especially Apple fans. But now that Apple announced a SQUARE smartwatch they all think it's the best invention ever.
I have a Moto 360 and I'm still learning things it can do. It is a wide open platform with tons of innovation happening. Good value.
I watched the Apple September event, second hour on Watch, and LOL'd at all the fake prototype and incomplete demonstrations. Saying the Watch is *ahead* of the Moto 360 is ignorance. You actually believe everything you saw was working? Really?
But, you can drink whatever kool-aid Apple is selling and I don't care. Just remember Google is killing them on services like Maps, Search, and Voice. So, my opinion for Apple fan boys is put up or shut up. Let us see WHAT and WHEN they ACTUALLY ship something, and how it compares AT THAT TIME with Android Wear.
Good luck.

I couldn't tell if you were being serious or not. If you watched the same thing I did I cant see how you thought that watch was anything but a incredibly ugly kids toy. Drawing pictures on a tiny watch screen and sending heartbeats is a joke. What adults would do that? Seriously?
In reality you are comparing a real life product to apple$ over hyped marketing material for the watch not the actual watch itself with it's shortcomings. Did you know it has a days worth of battery? They conveniently didn't mention that except to a CNBC analyst afterwords and that they weren't happy with it. I bet it has WORSE battery life than the 360.
IMO the 360 is light years ahead of the apple watch.
It appears to me Apple is trying to make a computer for your wrist where as android wear is meant to be a companion. In this way I think less is more and wear is simply a better product.
I don't get the battery complaints.. My 360 is sitting at 50% after about 13hrs of pretty decent use.
Wear will continue to get better but as it stands I think its pretty steller. Apple's product is confusing and more over currently doesn't really exist.
Well, coming from a pebble and loved the openness of that platform. Then tried the LG G Watch and thought to myself that it couldn't be up to par. I found myself flipping both my kickstarter pebble and pebble steel within a day of usage of the LG G Watch. I drank the kool-aid and chose android wear not of what it can do now, even though it did as much as my pebble does in my case, it was the potential. So I can see where you are coming from the prime time statement. But as a pretty heavy user when it comes to data, I can see android wear leaping real far when it comes to Android L. I don't foresee L being polished either, but I just see the potential that android wear has scratched the surface and the devs will have heaps of fun with this platform. I mean just look at the facer app.

THIS.
If you spent any time on your android wear device (or any smartwatch), you'll realize that trying to turn your wrist device into a mini-smartphone is a stupid proposition when (1) the screen is small (2) forms of input are limited, and most importantly (3) a smartphone is literally right in your pocket.
Google understands this well, since most everything in Android Wear is completed with 2 or fewer swipes OR with pure voice. Apple will fail in this regard. Imagine trying to find your app in a sea of apps on a 1.X inch screen, then having to zoom into a group of apps to select your intended app. Sounds WAY more fun than just pulling out your phone and getting the task done without all the frustration.
Anybody who has tried to actually do anything meaningful on a smart watch while *walking* knows that it's an exercise in frustration.
This is the one time that Google took the simpler method, and will win out because of it.
Plus, the apple watch is vapor until next year, anyways.
This whole idea of wearables is still "new" so it's expected to have different opinions from both sides. I was an iPhone user when they first released the iPhone and got all the iPhones until the iPhone 5. But like someone else said, it got boring because the OS was the same. Now I consider my self a hardcore android user and so is everyone else in the family.
Anyway, I also bought Moto 360 and used it for about a week extensively. But after using it for a while, I realized the OS just doesn't have a lot of use for me PERSONALLY. I wear a real watch and it was a choice of wearing a Moto 360 or a mechanical watch. This whole idea of charging every night just didn't work for me as I had to carry my pad everywhere. But some of the things that I do miss are the Google Now where I can just talk to my watch and find out information without pulling out my phone and opening apps. This DOES have a lot of potential for the future when the developers start making exciting apps for it but for now, it just depends on the user on what their looking for. Meanwhile, my friend has this was and he said it's sufficient for his needs and it's worth it.
Realistically, people should not give Moto 360 bad rating just because it doesn't have the features that their Android 4.4 has.We said the something when Google first released the first Android OS. Just give it time and see what they bring out.

Also I can bet my car that after Apple revealed its watch specs the next Motorola watch will be ways better.

I completely disagree with you.
I am also a big Android user, I watched the Apple Watch presentation and I cannot be happier with AW after it. Yes Apple is a trendsetter, yes it would be blind to not see what else the market has to offer however you are comparing Apples and Pears
AW is said to be and IS a "notifications and information to your wrist" platform in order to avoid constantly checking your phone because a heavy user can check is phone up to 160 times a day but really just gets the info without even acting on it more more than 50% of the time. AW gets you the information easily and you are done because you do not intend to act on it.
Whereas Apple Watch took a different path, a "subsidiary" of the iPhone. It does not replace but it complements with phone functions. WhoTF needs to have a map on their wrist with a crown to zoom in? AW give you directions if you need direction. If you need precise map tools, you have a 4"+ screen in your pocket or purse.
I think you should move to iOS all together and zoom in / zoom out on maps on your wrist if you think AW is mistaken and if you think that Apple Watch really gave you a mini orgasm while AW didn't
On my side, I am happy to have my statusbar on my wrist. I do not need more than that, I do not want more than that. I have a 4.95" screen in my pocket and a watch is not going to make me leave it in there to be just a mini Bluetooth hotspot for the watch.
@parth6512, is right. It comes down to how it works for you personally.
For me it's a great addition.
1) I wanted a new watch. Done.
2) I leave my phone sitting on my radio playing Pandora when I work as a plumber. Now when I get a text or phone call, I don't need to go see who it is. If it's a text I know what it is and can reply by voice if I'd like too and if it's a call I can accept it since my earpiece is usually in.
I actually find myself using my BT earpiece more than I was before now.
And to compare some pictures of a watch to an actual device is just silly.
And who wants to pinch to zoom on their watch? And to try and look at a map rather than just get your turn notifications? That's just bizarre.
I'll pull out my phone to look at a map. That's what a 5.5" screen is for.
I just ordered my moto 360, I think it is the prettiest smart watch in market right now, and the omap processor is not a deal breaker in anyway( it's a watch, you won't be playing hardcore games on it). I would brvsingvmy moto 360 n weekends and special occasions, whereas my weekdays watch would be tgevlgvg watch. As indicated by the reviewers, the battery would last a single day(not a problem at all).
I watch-fugly, cartoonish, over hyped piece of junk

It's funny how people are so different. I watch the Apple announcement video and tried very hard but couldn't find much to like about the Apple watch. It's visual appearance is what surprised me. Apple is usually the best looking product available. But I wouldn't put them in the top two with the one they showed on stage. Square? Really? It looks like a thick brick. It will not fit under a buttoned shirt sleeve.
As to the operation of the watch, Leo Laporte summed up the Apple watch pretty succinctly: "It looks like it was designed for Japanese school girls. "
Yeah, I completely disagree as well. I wonder what most people are looking for out of a smartwatch. I like the notifications and the actual watch part. There isn't a whole lot more than I want to do with it. Some quick access apps will be nice in time as they are built, but watching the Apple presentation makes it looks like their watch does almost as much as their phone, and doesn't do it very well. Instead of the Apple of old in the Jobs era where they'd come out with less features for a good clean platform to start and add more with time, they've piled very feature they could into an ugly package, with a very poor UI.
Don't get me wrong, I love that Apple came out with their watch. I love that it does all of this, but only to help fuel the competition. It's hard to say which is "better". It's fairly clear the Apple Watch does "more", but I think it does so in a very poor manner. The launcher, the silly digital crown, the pointless "features" like drawing on a tiny screen on your wrist. More isn't always better. There's a reason why they didn't talk about battery life. You know if it was worth talking about, they would have. Maybe smartwatches can evolve into more powerful devices, but they need to evolve there as we learn better ways to design the hardware AND software of a unique device, rather than try to stuff it all into a first gen device. I think the next version of the Apple Watch will be toned down quite a bit and will be much cleaner and more usable, but it marks an interesting change as Apple's first big "new" product since Jobs left and it shows a new attitude in the company where absolute refinement is no longer forefront.
For now, I'm perfectly happy for a nice clean and minimal design that tells me the time and gives me notifications. While I do wish for some changes, fixes, updates, and all that, a new version of Wear will be coming soon and I'm good with what I've got until then. This is a very much polarized topic as it applies not only to technology choice but fashion choice as well, and with the fashion sense of most of the "smartwatch type" people I know, it should be entertaining to say the least.

[DISCUSSION] Physical watch versus Smart watch...

What do you think of the physical watch over a smart watch idea?
I think it would be fine if the physical part would be transparent, for example when watching emails it would be completly transparent but normally there would be a led lighting it up
I like the idea of an analog watch with some smart watch features, the reliability of analog would go great with some basic use-cases of digital. Like, a watch that sends text messages? A watch that makes calls? What's the point when you have a phone in your pocket.
For privacy, I prefer analog versions of as much things as I can. Too many companies tracking everything you do on digital stuff.

Doesn't Sound like a bad idea to me!
Smart Watch is better
The thing we wear on our wrists is getting a new life, and that is tech. With touchscreen and sensors, watches are becoming "smartwatches."
We're seeing an era in which everything wants to be improvised with technology. But how do these relatively new gadgets stand against the giants which has built their fame for ages?
We humans see tech a solution to a problem. When we have no way to communicate, we create telephones.
When we need communication mobile, we create smaller devices. When we need portable computing machines, we develop smaller computers we can hold on our palms. Technologies were known to create something based on our needs; it fixes things and eases the way we interact with our world.
But tech isn't stopping there. It's also moving into an industry we know thrives and survives well even without them. Techs are getting into your wardrobe; they're coming as part of your daily clothing. In short, they want to be inseparable from humans.
Apple Watch
With tech getting on our wrists, Apple has it with the Apple Watch, Samsung has it and Pebble also.
More contenders are up and against each other for the market that is once dominated with the likes of Swiss watchmakers. But how do these gadgets affect the industry? They certainly caught a lot of headlines, and they're all up against those old-fashioned watchmakers that made the value of a "watch" at stake.
Apple and others have taken a long time before having the proper time for the proper technology, and the vision to being their products to the market.
What we have on our wrists, previously, were worn by millions; they show bits of time, date and some others. Tech makers are fond on putting more things than necessary, but this time, they made another successful debut.
In the age of information, tech companies are putting more and more information. Smartwatches put a lot more things on your wrist. And the possibility is that there will be more things than you ever need on a device strapped tightly on your wrists.
Will these smartwatches be a replacement to the old-fashioned handmade state-of-the-art pile of cogs and gears? No. The traditional market will always have its own fans because they never want to purely put information on the wrist.
They all move in a different market.
Mohit Bansal Chandigarh says Smart Watches are Better Than Physical Watches
Mohit Bansal Chandigarh says Smart Watches are better as they offer loads of features which are helpful in our daily routine. Some of the features are activity and fitness tracking, heart rate monitoring, GPS, calorie tracking, Barometer, Sedentary Reminder, and Sleep Monitoring.

Very true. Absolutely agree.
Omega Seamaster / Longines Conquest / TAG / Rolex are statements in their own right - not just for blind technology. Hey, maybe we are so engrossed with tech that we fail to see that some may NOT want a beeper on their wrist for every notification that comes in/even if customized.
There's something called too much of it.
Hii every one,
Today's time where everyone, keep moving to the modern world here to stay fit is every one 1st priority. But due to unorganized schedule create a lot of health issues. So here is a new smartwatch which helps everyone to keep count everything. As I am working one, and not have enough time to measure my working hours and heart rate. Once I was just browsing in net, and I found bestviewreviews site, there I find lots of option and multiple varieties. And then order smart watch from there. And you will not believe, from the last 5 years, I am using the same smartwatch. It is nice, perfect in counts my pedometers and helps me to control my heart rates too.
Does not look good Sound I think it's a bad Idea.... !!! You have to again focus on it.

i think its a good idea but i think smart watch is better and it provides a lot of features.
