New OTA update - but it's still not Marshmallow. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+

Last night I decided to try a software update, with hopes that Marshmallow would be available. To my surprise, the phone did start downloading an update - but it was only 77MB in size. Apparently it's just another security update - PE3.

Exact same thing here this morning. -PE3 I guess purchasing ATT's flagship phone last year gets you a big slap in the face. It's pretty lousy.

Saw the available update and got excited. I should be used to disappointment from AT&T by now.

No not yet. Everyone is anxiously awaiting word from Mo Versi on twitter that the update has been approved and that OTA will begin shortly. He had previously said he expected approval on 7/17 and release on 7/20 but it hasn't happened yet.
I am not happy that TMO has been holding this up to the point where even AT&T got it out first and they are near the bottom in terms of releasing updates.

I actually saw the convo on twitter.. I read elsewhere that since they are behind the 8 ball that they may skip 5.1 and just dive into Android M when its released. Of course this is all rumor and speculation. I asked mo on twitter today if there was any news but he didn't respond.

No they're not skipping 5.1. They are so far behind in firmware they won't skip 5.1 on a flagship device like this. Most likely there was some last min bug with a piece of TMO bloatware that they had to correct. That's almost always the reason...

Hopefully they release it soon. I'm only looking forward to it so that viperone gets WiFi calling and HD calling working on the updated firmware.

That's the same article I read. It's not really a big deal to me either way. I'd rather wait a little longer and get a stable release than have them rush it out full of bugs.
Since there's been a bit of a slow down with the m9 and I'm getting bored with it. I am trying to get my hands on a nexus so I can flash the Android m preview. Will keep my m9 as my daily driver though.

This feature is supposed to be on the Samsung Galaxy grand prime or something like that , so it is doubtful it will come in this update , that device drops next month .

T-Mobile's Des tweeted- said possibly next week and will give an update on Monday as to status. They weren't done testing yet was the reason for delay. We'll see I guess.

What happened to the 5.1.1 update?

Hey everyone,
I just wanted to start a thread trying to find out more about the 5.1.1 update for our phones. Personally, 5.0.1, for me at least, has been a complete bust where my battery life has really taken a hit. I went from being able to use my phone for 17 hours with nearly 5 hours of screen on time (I live in an area where the reception is spotty and I listen to music nearly 24.7), to about 12 hours with about 3 hours of screen on time, with the battery saver. I've been reading the other forums and apparently, with this update, the battery life is just as good as Kit kat and the recent apps lag is gone.
I recently also heard that Samsung is starting to ask that carriers stop selling the Note 4 is also shocking.
So, that leaves me with the question, "where's our update?" because if they keep screwing us over, how are they going to have loyal users?
Good question and my battery on 5.0.1 is also crap. Sprint note4 has 5.1.1 for a while already.

Samsung had the S3 from 2012 updated to Kitkat before most 2013 devices.
You also have to remember Verizon is not the fastest at releasing updates.
This is driving me crazy. I got my Note 4 recently used but I didn't expect VWZ not to update it. I really am starting to think I need to move off of Verizon...
Are you new to Verizon?, because Verizon has always been slow to update.
With the crap experience I had recently with the Galaxy S 6, and the fact that Samsung has pulled the Note 4 (possibly just going through old stock on most carriers, as VZW, T-Mobile and AT&T all still have it), I think I'm done with Samsung.
Got no reason to keep going with them when they're treating loyal users like me who have converted many over to Samsung devices. Not just phones, I buy Samsung TVs almost exclusively and ONLY buy Samsung SSDs, but both trends may change.
Anybody interested in an almost-new Sammy 75" LED?
Looks most likely that Verizon and Samsung will skip the 5.1.1 update and go straight to 6.0 in the 1st quarter of 2016.

I got the same thing from a VZW chat rep AND a phone rep. Take that as you will. Nothing pending for 5.1.1 though.
It just occurred to me what might be the reason for the delays on updates for the Note 4. Having the Note 5 on a later version could be the only real advantage it has. People don't like the loss of the removable battery and SD support.

Yeah, I dumped my S6 to go back to the Note 4. I had a Note 4 with AT&T and I almost wish I had kept it. But if I had kept it, I wouldn't have my Surface Pro 2.
I was wondering the same thing, along with is there any point to actually holding off updating anymore? Really doubting permanent root, at this point.

I'm not 100% sure, but basically this phones probably never going to be rooted. The only reason to ever hold off on an update is to see what others have to say about the new update. I didnt do this with lollipop and now i'm in that predicament.
Honestly we should just tweet to @verizonSupport and take screen shots of our phones saying up to date. Let's try and get our voices out there!

I talked to Samsung and Verizon the other day about that. And Samsung says it's been out and clueless as to why we haven't received it and Verizon stated "we don't have a switch to just push out an update we haven't received for the note 4" and I told them how it works and they quickly changed the subject and hung up. My theory is this last update was so screwed up by locking everything up so tight they are unable to push it out. Hell repair assistant fails to have the ability to do it.

So much for monthly updates

I was a bit excited when LG stepped up (late in the game) to say that they would be offering monthly updates, and not wait for M to fix bugs/security issues. Well it looks like 5.1.1 is once again scrapped and we will get another bug filled first edition of the latest offerings from Android.
With mediocre sales of the g4 and not tremendous changes from the g3, they just don't get it. Following the path of HTC is not a stellar move on LG's part. Heck, even HTC has been sending out updates.
Very disappointed LG.
What's the source for this? The articles I see flip flop between "updates are coming" and "wait for M"

The reason Im saying it could be a new system update is first off no patch or small update is 300mb big, it just doesn't make sense ( unless it's updating alot of the hardware then okay but still 300Mb?) I'm almost done the update and I'm going to try to figure what it is. If its Android m then 0)
It's its Android 5.1.1 then 0)

I called and spoke with LG today and all I got from them is that M will be made available for G4.
I think when the sales numbers came in, and the G4 was nowhere near expectations, they reverted back to M will be the next update. Again, just my thoughts.
Just frustrated they went from no updates until M, to monthly updates, back to no upgrades until M. Simply just poor customer support.
still on 10b skipping and heating problems trying to speak to lg in the UK is useless punting this p.o.s handset and picking up a note 5.

Welcome to Marshmallow

Looks like we are one step closer to marshmallow. The T-Mobile website now shows the phone in T-Mobile testing phase.
Update: Download some marshmallows now.
Taking them way too long. Verizon already is pushing out Marshmallow for the Note. They are usually the last carrier. I'm disappointed with development from this phone.
you sure about that? to me it still shows that it is under manufacturer development
Maybe we'll see it in April
Telus may rollout Marshmallow at March 30th for s6 edge. what about t-mobile
I believe tmobile has always been the slowest in releasing updates. ..don't be surprised either April or May timeframe
I couldn't help it. I used JUMP to get the S7 Edge. In Reality it's exactly what I wanted the S6 Edge to be. I really have zero complaints about the S6 Edge. I'll miss seeing how it handles marshmallow. I think it'll fit it well.
Can't blame you. ..I'm thinking of upgrading myself. ..this update is taking to long

It is kind of hilarious we are now reading Android N developer preview stuff, seeing lowly Sprint rolling out updates to M and we are reading that it's still in a development phase as far as TMobile goes. I not one that thinks M is going to be that great we absolutely need to have it Android. I'm more disappointed I have been a long time Tmobile customer, and going from my first Android, my beloved Nexus One that was put at by Google at the time, to switching over to Samsung and basically being the good little follower/updater of every TOL device they put out prior to my current S6Edge which I obtained on the first day of availability last April 2015 and my wifes Note5 I recently updated her to from her Note 3. TMobile used to be known as the leader of the pack supporting their USA customer base.
Lastly, in the past up thru the latest 5.1.1 updates, it was really easy to flash an International version, use a Kerenel that played happy with TMobile hardware, and occasionally requiring an additional flash of a file to fix call audio issues and we all were golden. I'm guessing that once a TMobile supported Android M Bootloader is available, we can then happily start flashing away the many International Android M ROMs already being posted on those Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge sites.
I could be wrong on that, but I really thing once we have a bootloader posted we can all go back to complaining about this or that specific ROM issues, instead of pounding the web sites for Tmobile to get it's act in gear. Really....Sprint ahead of Tmobile....scratching my head
Sprint rolls out their updates first when business is mediocre.
Still waiting for M. This is why I dont buy Tmo S7.
Im start hate samsung, so many versions for the same cellphone or watch, I never want say this but with iphone dont happen thinks like that..
Well, finally it's showing on T-Mobile's page that it is in testing phase.

And yes Alex9090 seems like I made a mistake when I started this thread, maybe my excitement got to me. But its in T-Mobile Testing phase now.
KingP1n I don't see Samsung changing their ways anytime soon. They are trying to use touchwiz in a way to make money from it. But the end result is always the same it takes too many resources away from the base OS and the whole experience feels like riding on the short bus.
This is my last Sammie phone anyway... I've been pretty disappointed in it and should have waited to buy it - always out to be the early adopter.. i need to knock that crap off..
Having to wait for hell to freeze over before getting the update just hammers it all home...
The worst part is that this will most likely be the last update this phone will get.
Imagine next year we will be where S5 owners are now last to get if ever get Android N

People like us that worry about an update is about 1% of the total sales of a Note series phone. ATT losing you means nothing let alone the about 100 people that care. People switch carriers daily, losing 1 and picking up another will happen in about 1 second.

Super simple as long as you have adb, usb drivers and the zip file. Just place the ADB and zip files in the same folder and launch a command prompt from that same directory. Took about 25 minutes to install and so far smooth sailing.
