Lenovo Vibe P1 Marshmallow Rooting - Lenovo Vibe P1 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I recently updated to Marshmallow, the last update the Vibe P1 can get from Android. I want to root it coz of the huge list of unused uninstallable apps from Google. Have someone achieved access to the root directory in Marshmallow ? I see threads for rooting this device which runs on Lollipop, but not MM.
Can someone help ?

There's a dedicated thread for rooting. Search and you shall find

Can you post the link please? I see rooting thread for lollipop not MM.

I have it rn installed and it works.

Mr. Teddy,
Have u rooted your vibe with Marshmallow or Lollipop? I assume that the codes and steps given in the link are for Lollipop. Won't that cause the device to brick ?
I have done a rooting earlier on a Samsung device with just a zip file calles SuperSU. Can't I do a similar root for Vibe P1?
I'm not a nerd, please ignore if the question was irrelevant.

The 272 Rom is 6.0.1 which is Marshmallow. You do the steps abd it'll be fine. Be aware that you have to unlock bootloader using adb.If you want I can assist you on TeamViewer to get it done.

No need to play with adb. Just flash unlocked booloader with QFIL and it is done

Mr. Pabgar,
How can that be done?

One quick question. I used to root my Samsung Galaxy Ace with a zip file called SuperSU.Zip. Can I get such a file to run it from recovery mode, reboot and get access to system files like a super user? Or is that impossible in Marshmallow?

Is the bootloader same as the MM OS or is it like a system BIOS?

It follows the same principle, but it needs custom recovery and unlocked bootloader. And pabgar about your experience with just flashing the unlocked bootloader, it caused my device to brick, so better be sure than sorry.

I think, that you were just out of luck. **** happens. Flashing with QFIL is less risky then playing with manual/adb method - specially for unexperienced user

Thank you... I am checking the links shared.

Why should there be a ROM installation required?
Isn't it possible to run some codes and get admin rights than installing a ROM? I am not a nerd but I have done rooting before using supersu.zip. Im not sure what happened in the background when I install the zip file from recovery mode but once I reboot, I have the admin rights. Can such a simple way be possible in Vibe P1 with Marshmallow?
My purpose for root is just to uninstall all Google scrap applications.
Is it possible?

He wants root for 6.0.1 so he needs unlocked bootloader and custom recovery, then he can flash supersu. For unlocked bootloader he needs fastboot.

No. In theory you are right BUT Lenovo does not want you to gain privileged rights and try to lock it in every way.
Indeed some smartphone manufacturers have different policy and sell phones with root rights unlocked or easy accessible.

In the above shared link, there were more things to download and run out of which all might not be needed. Can you guide me exactly what files I got to install, then the steps to be followed just to get root access.

He wants root for 6.0.1 so he needs unlocked bootloader and custom recovery, then he can flash supersu. For unlocked bootloader he needs fastboot.

There's a link in that post and if you look at the replies in that thread you will see step by step instructions. It's relatively easy. I root mine with that method (on android 6.0.1)

For vzw 98.18.78 xt907 only.
If you need help search google for that file for now. Op in progress. I thought it best to spell out the steps & warnings!! (As someone did misuse this at my linking to it in it's former bare form)
Thanks to livinginkaos the real Op!
Though it is a copy of that other Great forum's Op.
Instructions:
0. You must install the latest Moto USB drivers
1. Download Motochopper_1.1.2
2. Extract files
3. Connect the phone to the computer USB 2 port
4. Ensure that USB debugging is enabled
5.*Execute the Run.bat on Windows or Run.sh on Linux/Mac
6. Follow the prompts
7. Check for root access if none goto next steps.
*
If you had previous root, sometimes it is required to clean the system partition of any remnants, so we can do that here:
*
( Partial restore steps. Note this will not substitute for a FXZ/XML restore. )
8. Download the proper system.img or system.img.ext4 for your device
9. Place the file in the motochopper_1.1.2 directory
10. Jump back to #3
StickyWickets to get over:
1. You may need to enter stock recovery & do a data wipe/reset if you hang at the big M.
To enter stock recovery (which has a bug in the secret double press action), from the dead android, you need to do any of these:
a) Press & hold both volume keys for 2 sec & release.
b) Hold volume down and tap volume up and the menu comes up.
2. Be sure to use only the fastboot in the motochopper root exploit.
WARNING: This ONLY works for the XT907 on 98.18.78. *DO NOT use it on any other device or version!!

Yes. You can also install a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) and flash SU binaries, or use a custom ROM.

I am new to this. I have not attempted to flash a custom rom yet ..the main reason I rooted was to save battery power on my razr m which is disappointing..almost dead after 4 hours of use. I am still not sure how I rooted my phone. I used Dan's method for unlocking the bootloader..when it was finished I was unlocked and rooted. which is better for beginners TWRP or CWM? thanks .

I like TWRP the best, personally. Nothing wrong with CWM though. Safe strap was intended for locked bootloaders and not usually used with an unlocked boot loader.

As Rom Manager is to CWMR so is TWRP manager to TWRP.
But twrp seems to be a better execution.
Motochopper 1.1 for RAZR M is now available at the link in the OP. MUCH easier now to root on locked 98.18.78.
Can somebody supply this again via a different link. I'm not a fan of the way this website supplies this file. My computer identified the software that they want to download it with as malware. If somebody already has the file I would appreciate a personal exchange.

I could really use some help here. Hang with me as I explain what I've done and what's happening.
About a month ago, I checked for OTA update. .78 showed up, but, before installing, I went online to see that the new update didn't jive with rooted and BL unlocked Razr Ms. So....I've basically been hitting "remind me later", twice a day, since then. So my alarm goes off this morning and, in my foggy eyed and foggy head state, I hit install update.
Obviously, I lost root but BL is still unlocked. Thinking it would be easy to reroot, I uninstalled the superuser app. Well I tried to reroot with the motochopper in this thread and it's a no go. I run the bat file and it gets here and progresses no further. *daemon started successfully*
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Let someone else chime in, I am on a mac & rooting only is hard.
But use my restore & restore data (adv restore- cwmr) when done is easy. See goodies.
Hello I am on the latest stock, no root, no unlocked bl. It is my understanding if I choose to root it, I am limited to safestrap roms. Do any safestrap roms (which are all outdated?) provide any advantages over the latest stock?

[Q] System update HELP!

Hey XDA community,
i have recently rooted my HTC Desire 816/Virgin mobile
Currently running stock ROM
Adroid version: 4.4.2
HTC Sense version: 6.0
Software Version: 1.13.652.1
I keep getting the software update pop up for version 1.50.652.3 which i previously had before rooting
as i try update it the update is aborted
Is there anyway that i can update it and also keep my root access?
Ive tried many different ROMs although most of them seem to be inefficient as either the calling, data, or text messaging doesn't work, i would rather stick to the stock ROM until fully functional ROMs are out there.
only thing your suppose to do is just install the root, relock bootloader and flash recovery hope will work won't get aborted.....

Open SuperSU and choose unroot, flash the stock recovery, relock the bootloader and then take the update.
Then re-root the same way you did the first time.

I was simply telling them to use Google, I don't see were anything rude was said in that post. It was only 3 words, and 2 of them were Google...
But just because this is a Q&A thread, doesn't mean they should disregard any other way of getting information themselves.
Why should someone else have to take time out if there day to get the link, and give it to this person, when as I said, they can Google it.
But with that being said, I'm sorry you saw rudeness in those 3 words, next time I'll try to be more considerate.

I did some bad stuff trying to remove Kingroot and have to do a system repair. Lost everything.
I try Supersu-Me and didn't work, I suggest don't do it.
This what I did to get things right:
1. Download mediafire .com /? mxzbt42xypvn2ts
2. Unzip to the internal sdcard (it's a folder named mrw containing 4 files)
3. Install terminal emulators
4. Open terminal and type: su (case sensitive) click enter
5. Now write: sh /sdcard/mrw/root. sh and click enter
6. Let it finish, there be some errors but that's ok.
7. You get a message to uninstall kingroot, do so
8. If should open Supersu if not open it and update binaries.
9. Reboot and done
I recommend install supersu to /system
Next step: custom recovery.

Just bought a note 4 on ebay and found out about the latest update when I looked at the "about phone" info. Read it was a security update....ruined my new purchase buz. you might still be able to downgrade to N910VVRU2BPA1, and if you are able to, then yes it can be rooted.
how do you perform the downgrade?
I drank a beer and prayed lol seriously I downloaded kingo root for android. I installed the app on the phone. Then I installed root checker. Next I did adb devices. Next I did adb push Samsun unlock file like the guide. Then I ran kingo root to get temp root. In the command line I did adb shell, then typed su. You should then see # (which means you have root. At this point I typed in the code lines described in the guide. I typed the lines and when prompted yes/no,I typed yes and waited 5-10 minutes. Was prompted on screen that it was successful.

First, download, install and run the eMMC brick check from the Play Store, first before proceeding. The CID has to start with 15 or you're screwed.
There are like a billion threads in the general section that explain how to use KingRoot to root your phone, then push an unlock file. I believe I used this one.

How do I unlock the bootloader on a Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 (SM-T310)?

Alright, semi-noob question here. I'm not a developer or a hacker or anything, just a tech-savvy end user. I have a Tab 3 8.0 running Android 4.4.2 and I want to install a custom ROM. I'm familiar with Samsung devices on which you go into the developer options and select OEM unlock. I see no OEM unlock or anything of that sort in the developer options. Is the bootloader unlocked by default or am I missing something?

Alright, semi-noob question here. I'm not a developer or a hacker or anything, just a tech-savvy end user. I have a Tab 3 8.0 running Android 4.4.2 and I want to install a custom ROM. I'm familiar with Samsung devices on which you go into the developer options and select OEM unlock. I see no OEM unlock or anything of that sort in the developer options. Is the bootloader unlocked by default or am I missing something?

It's been a while I flashed my ROM, I post the link down below. I think it was 'USB debugging >on", after that I simply flashed with Odin. I remember nothing about bootloader.

What I tried to say is that Samsung devices don’t have a bootloader. Meaning you can easily install a TWRP recovery without having to deal with unlocking the bootloader. I tell you this because I have a Samsung Tab 3 sm t310. Motorola for example does have a bootloader wich you will have to unlock in order to install a custom rom for example
