Device is stuck on a silent-schedule - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Hey,
I upgraded my device from a Nexus 5. In my Nexus 5 I had an option in the Settings to create a schedule for silent times (or priority only). Before I did the switch, I had a setting on to put the device on silent mode at 21:30. Now, in my OnePlus3, I notice that it also goes silent at 21:30 every day (it probably automatically migrated this setting along with the other settings when I first set up the device). But in the OnePlus 3 I no longer have a setting to disable this schedule... This is extremely annoying, because when the device goes into Silent mode I can't even turn up the volume with the volume rocker, I have to physically push the alert slider to "silent" mode and then back to "all notifications" mode.
The device is not rooted and I'd much rather keep it this way if I can.
I hate the fact that there something going on that I can't switch off...
Ideas? Tips? any thoughts will be highly appreciated.

Several people have reported this problem and I have it as well. You are correct that it comes from transferring the settings from your previous phone to the OP3 which has no way to control do not disturb settings through software. None of the suggested fixes have worked for me. My hope was that the new OTA, which apparently had notification fixes would stop it, but it did not. The only thing that has been reported as working all the time is wiping the phone entirely and setting it up as new without transferring your old settings. If you still have your old phone, you could change the settings on it to remove all dnd settings, use it for a bit so that it backs up and then try setting up your OP3 again. I plan on doing that or starting new and fresh later this week.
Edit:
Here's the other thread on this. Looks like the problem exists for people who did clean installs as well. http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/help/disturb-settings-t3400979

Had this problem, too. I did transfer the settings from my old phone, but I had no DND settings active on this device (in fact I never ever used DND). The only way to get out of this silence loop was to restart the phone and set the slider to priority and back to all.

That didn't fix it, the behavior returned after a while.
Apparently this is a big issue:

Notification vibrate

Two weeks ago, toggling the silent mode settings between Silent, sound only, vibrate only, and sound-vibe controlled the ringer and all the notifications. So, any app that generated a notification would follow this setting. You know, like every phone every made since their advent.
My phone just came back from samsung (screen repair) with MD4 everything. I also put MOAR on it. Now, that toggle no longer controls the notification vibration. The only way to set vibration for notification is go into the individual application settings. This is ridiculousness. I thought I could make a workaround with tasker, but "Vibrate on notify" is also no longer available.
Can anyone verify this is the way it is? Or is something wrong with mine?

I'm not sure if this will work as I'm on AOSP rom but try this.
Under Settings/Sound - select volumes, you should get a popup for volume settings. There should be an option for "Link Ringtone & Notification Volumes". Select that and notifications should follow the same rule as phone ring tone. Hope it works for you.
Bumping this. Does anyone have a solution to this complete epic failure of engineering by either google or samsung? It's absolutely absurd that if I want to cycle vibrate on and off, I have to go into 5 different apps, dig through menus of each app, and change each app's individual notification settings.
After you received the Device back from Samsung, did you happen to notice if the Toggle worked correctly ? I'm currently on MOAR, and everything works as it should. Did you do a Clean install of MOAR ? Meaning a Full Wipe System - Data - Dalvik Cache -Cache - Factory Reset ? Did you verify the MD5 Checksum of the Rom before Flashing ?

When I sent the phone away, it had MOAR 4 and whatever was prior to MD4.
When I got the phone back, it came with MD4. I clean flashed MOAR 4. Not more vibe on notify. I didn't check that before I flashed, but presumably that feature went away with MD4.
Clean flashing to MOAR 5 still lacks that feature.
So this leads me to believe it is an MD4 "feature".
Ok so I think I understand you a bit better now. You are not saying that the Toggle is broken, you are saying that when you use the Toggle certain apps do not respond accordingly. Have you tried : Menu - Settings - Sound - Ringtones and notifications. Make sure that Vibrate and ringing is checked.
No no. The problem is that THERE IS NO TOGGLE. The toggle for selecting notification vibrate no longer exists. It isn't there. Taken away. No option, no selection, no checkbox, no nothing. And tasker shows it as not available so I can't work around it either.
Look at these two screenshots. There is nothing to set notification vibrate, and there there is nothing to link notification settings up with ringer settings. All gone. The Vibrate when ringing checkbox controls only the phone call vibrate and has no effect on notifications.
The only way to control whether you get a vibrate for notification, is to go into each application and manually turn it's vibrate option on. That application will then vibrate at all times. If I set the phone for silent, that app's notifications will still vibrate. If I set the phone for sound only, that app still vibrates. If I have the app's vibe turned off, and I set the phone for vibrate, I will never receive any notification since there is no vibrate for notification.
Make sense now?
Did you try changing it in Vibration Intensity ?

Sure I could go into vibration intensity and lower it down to zero. But that is not a toggle. There is no way to adjust that without going through all the menus and changing the slider. It will not change itself when I put the phone into vibrate. It will not change itself when I put the phone into sound & vibe. It isn't solving anything. The problem is the removal of the toggle.
You can try THIS , or maybe the one HERE.

Those just do the same exact thing the phone already does. Toggle the RINGER. Nothing to do with notifications.
I've been asking around about this too. It's really annoying having to change the notification settings in each app every time. Someone suggested a Tasker profile to change the vibrate settings in specified apps but I haven't figured out how to do it.

Asus Zenwatch - Notification Settings Keep Changing On Their Own

I have an Asus Zenwatch (1st generation) running Android OS 5.1.1 and Android Wear 1.3.0.2160025 and I have it connected to my Google Nexus 6P. I assume this is the latest version available for the Zenwatch as when I try and update the software it advises me I am up to date.
One of the great things I love about Android Wear and the Zenwatch is the ability for me to pull down the notifications menu and change from no notifications, to priority notifications, to all notifications.
I normally keep notifications set at no most of the time and change it to priority when I'm out with friends etc. However, notifications do not stay on the setting I define.
Every day I set notifications to no and then I will hear it vibrating when I get a new whatsapp notification and when I check the watch notifications are set to all; despite the fact I never changed anything.
Has anyone else experienced this?
My first thought was that my clothes were touching the screen and pulling the menu down, however I have tried moving my wrist around in many different ways and my clothes never change the screen at all. Which leads me to believe it's software related.
I think the setting is tied into the quiet or priority mode settings on the phone. That is, if you set priority mode on the watch, it also sets it on the phone, and vice versa. Would that explain the behavior you're seeing? You set priority mode on the watch, and later un-set it on the phone (and thus on the watch, too)?

Thanks for the response CSX.
I changes the notification settings on the watch but nothing changed on the phone and vice versa.
I had been charging it there and it was set to no and when I checked it again it was set to all. So it is definitely a software or settings issue as its changing on its own afford when the phone is stationary.
Has anyone found a solution to this? It's very annoying and discouraging me from ever wearing it. I want notifications off the majority of the time, but whatever I do, they remain active.
Change default settings or watch setting to do not disturb.........

I have done that. That is the problem. I change it to do not disturb and a few minutes later it vibrates because of a new notification and it has changed back to all notifications. It does this all the time, even when the phone is idle on my computer desk.

HTC 10 and Wear silent mode not dnd

So I've just received my HTC 10. Got it as a gift and it's an upgrade from my Galaxy S6. There is a lot to like, but I've found some very annoying things that I seem unable to solve. Like not being able to edit the Quick Settings and the reason for opening this thread: no way of turning off sound AND vibration while using a an Android Wear watch.
On my S6 I was able to simply turn down the volume until it went to vibrate and then press volume down again. That way the phone was entirely silent and only my watch would vibrate. Not so with the 10. It'll either vibrate or it goes to Do-Not-Disturb mode meaning my watch doesn't vibrate anymore either.
It's extremely annoying as I'm often in meetings with my phone on the table in silent mode. That way I get notifications on my wrist while the phone is silent. Now I'm forced to put everything to silent and miss calls and messages as a result. It totally defeats the purpose of having the watch for notifications.
As I got the phone from HTC I wanted to hold off from rooting it, but it looks like it's either that or going back to the S6. Am I doing something something wrong/not finding the right settings or did HTC just forget?
Thanks in advance for your reply!

Yeah, this is weird from HTC. On previous devices the silent setting would work exactly like the Galaxy S6 one. It's strange that in the 10 it goes straight to DND mode.
As a workaround, if you don't want to root, you can tweak DND Mode to allow every notification through and get it on the smartwatch as well. This is not ideal, especially if you want to use DND mode for what it's meant...

Thanks
Unfortunately I also use DND often so this is not an ideal solution, but it'll have to do for now
HTC uses the same idea as Nexus device now, since HTC A9, which means the sound profile has only : normal, vibrate, and DND, no silent mode anymore; and the notification panel also followed Nexus, but don't worry, in Android N you can change quick settings in notification panel, just need to wait for 5 months.
Also, you can set up some apps, treat them as priority, so that they may go through. I don't use smart watch so I could be wrong. But this is just a problem about habit, once you get used to it, everything's fine.

The phone also vibrates on messages and emails. There are multiple work arounds, but none as quick as just turning down the volume and have your phone be silent. I don't want to dive into settings everytime I walk into a meeting.

you don't need to dive into the settings,
1: drag down the quick settings and tap on DND, only 2 steps;
2: press and hold volume down button, when switched to vibrates mode, tap on the bell icon, also only 2 steps.

I meant to do the settings where you change the priority mode settings each time you want the phone to be silent, but don't want DND on etc.

Alert slider just puts the phone in silent mode

Hey, so i just received the phone and when i use the alert slider the phone only goes in to silent mode. Doesn't matter if i pull the slider up or down always silent, and when i have the slider in the middle or in the bottom option. And when I press a little bit in the top left corner the phone shows the silent toast and vibrates. Seems like a HW fault, but not really sure , any ideas?
Bump
You have me a bit confused. Is the phone silent in all slider positions?
I assume you have gone into the "Alert Slider" settings and configured it?
When you went through the initial on-screen setup process after turning the phone on the first time, did you select to restore from previous device? Or did you set it up as a new device?
In another thread others were reporting similar issues with their slider not working as it should and others even reporting that the do not disturb mode would turn itself on after allowing the phone to restore from previous device. Doing a factory reset and then selecting "setup as new device" seemingly fixed the problem for those other people. I'd suggest giving that a shot.
Yes the phone is in silent in all the slider positions.
And nope i haven't touched any settings, i reseted the phone too and the problem is still remaining .
I set it up as a new device, I read about a "similar" problem, so i reseted the phone to be sure.
As i wrote, i think it is a HW fault, because slightest amount of pressure on the top left side of the phone "activates" the slider so the text/icon "silent" pops up.
Hi. Same issue here. I performed hard reset, set up the phone as new device and the issue keeps appearing. Even the update to 3.2.1 did not help.
Yea, I think it is a HW fault

Multiple issues in Oneplus 3

Hello people
I am facing the following issues in my phone which is running OxygenOS 3.2.1.
1. Push notifications not coming until the phone is unlocked again
2. Alert slider causing the phone to go completely silent.
To add to the misery I was using my wifi on 2.4 GHz band but when I tried to connect to 5GHz band it does not connect and the error shows wifi connection failure. All my other devices are connected successfully to this band even my 4 year old Nexus 4 but Oneplus 3 does not seem to connect for a single time
This is really becoming disappointed for me bow after push notification and alert slider issues.
The range of 2.4 GHz wifi is not even half of what my Nexus 4 used give me.
I am using ASUR WRT 68u router.
These are very basic features of a cellphone which are required on the very first moment.
I am Totally frustrated with this device as I can't use it for my daily life!!! I don't know if people in this forum are not having any such issues with their devices.
1. push notification can be blocked when the screen is locked (to avoid that other people can see SMS for example). In the "When device is locked" option, "show all notification content" should be selected if you want notification. Also the alert slider should be on the 3rd position, the position closed to the volume up button. If you want to use the middle slider position, you need to select some apps as priority apps for notification.
2. hmmm I think it's the purpose of the alert slider... especialy in the 1st position, the further to the volume up button.
It's strange you seems to misunderstand it as when you put in silent mode, it say "silent" on the screen. I put my phone in english to be sure, maybe the translation in your language is not accurate.
Anyway the slider mode can be customized in the alert slider options.
For wifi, it seems ok for me but I can't test 5GHz at the moment.
1. Not sure if I see this behaviour but if I do isn't botherimg me.
2. I know put slider to silent and it silences the phone, this is probably my favourite feature of the phone. Completely silence the phone without even taking it out of my pocket genius.
3. Sent on my 5ghz WiFi connection.

I think you misunderstood me. Here are your replies:
1. The push notification issue is a doze mode bug since the notifications do appear and the sound plays ok until the device enters into doze mode after which there is no notification and no connectivity maintained which causes the notifications to stop, once the phone is unlocked the notifications start to appear
2. Well I know the purpose of alert slider and I am talking about when the slider is is normal position i.e. downwards, sometimes the notification sounds disappear and there is complete silence, the slider has to be cycled again by moving upward then downward to fix the issue.
for the slider, wipe your phone completely, reset it in other words.
If your slider bug still there, contact oneplus customer service to replace your phone.
and your first problem seems to be related to the second one as it enter the silent mode on it's own.

I have completely wiped off the phone and installed 3.2.1 from the signed flashable zip... the wifi issue is still there
I will check and update about the first two issues if they're solved... I have contacted customer support but they have not provided a satisfactory response yet.
When I upgraded to 3.2.1, I had the same issues as stated above AS WELL AS an issue with VoLTE that forced me to disable LTE in order to have a decent phone call. I reverted back 3.1.2 until OnePlus gets these issues ironed out. Overall, 3.1.2 has been much better for me.
I have installed freedomOS from xda and stock ROM again.. wifi issue is resolved but push notification and alert slider issues still persist in freedomOS as well as stock ROM.. I don't have VoLTE feature here so can't test
About the random silence, did you restore apps and settings from old phonethat had automatic disturb profiles? If so, reset and do not restore...
I'm not experiencing any of these issues, only issue is the random turn off
