Flashed TWRP but can't enter with button shortcut, only from fastboot. - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Unlocked phone's bootloader and flashed the latest TWRP, downloaded straight from their site and md5 checked.
If I try to enter TWRP from fastboot, it enters fines but the shortcut just doesn't. If you can't enter twrp from the shortcut, then your basically screwed if you brick it..
I even tried flashing twrp all over again, and still have the sample problem.
So how can I fix this?

i have the same problem, plus the fact that i had error during flashing new rom and now i can't even go back to stock, cause my PC doesn't recognize phone in download mode. Any fixes?

bumb

If u have root u can use an app called Flashify download from playstore go to recovery by using this app n The regular way to go Volume up and power button delete all select yes confirm yes u go into TWRP

Use Flashify or while you're in recovery flash again the recovery use the "Flash Image" option. And now you'll have permanent recovery

i found a solution, when your phone is off press volume down + power until lg logo appears, then release power (keep holding wolume down) and press power again. Then double yes and boom TWRP

Thanks mate. This made the factory reset menu open, and after clicking yes twice it did a normal factory reset like there was no twrp there.. I flashed twrp a couple of times with no error messages, and even got into it a month ago. How did it disappear.. what the hell

[Q] I have nandroid backup, but I can't access to it :/

Hi, I had a ROM and I wanted to change to another one that I had backed up so I deleted everything, went to the ROM, stayed there for an hour and then I pressed the power menu, clicked in reboot in recovery mode so I could go back to my other ROM and now... it doesn't stop rebooting into recovery. I tried taking the battery out and when it turns on, it's like if I'm holding the bottoms to go to recovery and once it passes the logo of the recovery, it restarts and does the same operation... I have TWRP recovery.
Any help is appreciated
I found a fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2610273

Installing TWRP on Tab S

Hello
I have installed TWRP successfully using Odin - however the process is touch and go. You end up rebooting a dozen times, holding some combination of buttons together, and in most cases it appears that the TWRP installation has not "caught" and the tablet keeps its old bootloader/recovery/whatever we call that thing. Eventually, after plenty of Odin tries, it seems that the TWRP upload "catches" and you then manage to boot into the TWRP screen.
Would anyone here be able to give us step-by-step instructions of how to install TWRP on a vanilla Tab S, and I mean literally "press this button, hold X seconds, now press that button" type of instructions?
If we have a repeatable process we can then update the TWRP help pages found here: https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxytabs105.html
Many thanks
It sounds like you experienced the issue mentioned on the TWRP link you provided:
Note many devices will replace your custom recovery automatically during first boot. To prevent this, use Google to find the proper key combo to enter recovery. After typing fastboot reboot, hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted, TWRP will patch the stock ROM to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP. If you don't follow this step, you will have to repeat the install.

Hold Power + Volume Up + Home buttons simultaneously during your first reboot after flashing TWRP with ODIN. You can practice using the button combo to get into the stock Samsung recovery before you flash TWRP.
Here's a video (not mine) of someone booting a Galaxy S4 into recovery using the button combo. It's the same for the Tab S.
This has been documented countless times and is even mentioned in the official twrp info.
It has also been mentioned several times in the TWRP thread in the dev section, if people would bother to read.
Its common for a custom recovery to be replaced at each boot with stock.
To prevent this twrp patches a file on the system partition upon first boot.
This means that you need to immediately boot into recovery straight after flashing.
There's no magic it's as simple as that.
If I understand it right:
After uploading using Odin, we then need to reboot. As we are in "download" mode, the only way to reboot is "menu + vol down + power". Then as soon as the screen goes blank quickly release "vol down" and press "vol up" while keeping all the other buttons pressed ?

Thats it. Need to disable auto-reboot in Odin first though.
Great, I will try to update the relevant web page in TWRP to make it more clear.
You can also just root using CF-Auto-Root, then install TWRP using a tool such as Flashify.

Broken android when trying to enter recovery

Hi!
Today I unlocked bootloader and installed a custom rom and everything went fine.
Now, when I tried to flash the camera mod app, I couldn't enter TWRP. When trying to do it with the restart option it shows a broken android and I have to remove battery to get the phone running again. Manual (holidng down vol button + power button, as well as holding down buttons and releasing them for 1s) is also not working.
The phone works fine, but I would like to have TWRP working.
Can I just reinstall twrp like the first time?
Thank you

What device? H811? Needs to know more about what software you flashed.
If you can get into fastboot you can push twrp there.
Hmmm i flashed xperia phones locked bootloader twrp on my h818 and i got this error too so it means it changed the recovery but can't start it?

H815 EUR. I installed the 2.8.7.0 and the 2.8.6.1 from https://dl.twrp.me/h815/. I tried it multiple times with these 2 versions and everytime I get the same error.
Connecting it to pc and entering recovery works without a problem, though.
Edit: I flashed Genisys 3.7

So you can get into twrp with "adb reboot recovery"?
Your problem is you can not access it from neither the rebooter app nor the hardware buttons?
When using the harware buttons, hold vol down then press and hold power until the logo shows up. Release power for a second then press and hold again.

Correct, I can get in twrp with "adb reboot recovery"
I was releasing both the volume and power buttons. Tried it again, but I came to a menu where I could only choose whether to delete all data (factory reset) or not. When choosing NO, the phone proceeded to boot normally.

That menu is perfectly normal. You have to select okay. Because you have a custom recovery it will not factory reset your phone but rather boot you into twrp.

Reboot to EDL/BROM (search for right key combination) and reflash ROM using SP Flash Tool. Then flash latest Magisk
I have let the phone run down battery, pressed vol up and power, but still nothing.

I have already tried key combinations, but still the same.
@hainguyenthao helped me out. Showed me how to get into downlaod mode without pressing power and vol down!
Let the phone power down, leave it for 30 mins or so. then press vol up and vol down and insert USB cable.
OR if phone is in bootloop, press vol down and power till phone reboots, then VERY quickly hold down vol up and vol down and plug in USB cable
Dude, To put device in download mode - Press Volume Up & then Press Volume Down (Keep holding both) and connect device to PC with USB cable.
But for your problem you have to put your device in recovery mode then flash ROM. Still the problem continues, you can try this download link
I've the same problem with my Note 10+... Was on Dr. Ketan Rom and update with magisk app ends in a boot loop, I couldn't break -.-
@vinokirk could you solve the problem?
Edit: Thanks to @starpandi2004 - on the first try I can break the bootloop, but just to the first screen. After choosing download mode, it comes bootloop again -.-
Is it worth to try to lock bootloader and factory reset phone? What will happen? Is the original rom somewhere packed and would be installed again by factory reset?

just had same same problem.
i connected mine to the pc and use power+up volume until twrp appeear and them restores from last backup
I got the simplest solution for this issue!
If u r stuck on Samsung logo, then try this method.
Turn off the phone by pressing vol down and power button. Once the phone is shut down, release and press again the vol down and power button when u see Samsung note 10 plus screen, then release the power button but keep pressing vol down. Once u see the "Samsung" logo, immediately release the vol down button and quickly press vol up button.
This will boot up without any problem!

Have I just bricked my faithful A70?

So I tried to install TWRP and followed the steps, used ODIN v3.14, it tried to upload something but failed with an error.
Now the phone has gone into a perpetual restart cycle:
1) Reboot (by itself or Vol Down + Power)
2) Blank screen with: "Galaxy A70 - Secured by Knox - Powered by Android"
3) Screen with: "This phone's bootloader is unlocked and its software integrity... - Press power key to continue"
4) Blank screen with: "Galaxy A70 - Secured by Knox - Powered by Android"
5) Blank screen with: "SAMSUNG" for a very long time
6) eventually back to step 1
****************
Is there a way to get back this phone?
I was flashed twrp normally and nothing happened for me. Did you pressed vol up+power ASAP after flash successful ? If not, go to download mode and flash again, then press vol up+power immediately.
I never managed to flash TWRP, ODIN displayed an error when I tried.
1. Your using the wrong version of odin. You need 3.13.3
2. Sounds like your not key comboing fast enough?
3. You can not hard brick the A70. If its in a boot loop, plug into pc and Continue to hold vol up and down till it boots to download mode. Flash latest stock version then reboot.

Dont press power during the end process, its power and vol down till screen goes blank then immediately let go and press and hold just vol up.
OK, I am now in the "Downloading..." screen and the phone is waiting.
All I have on my PC is:
recovery.tar
twrp-3.6.1_9-0-a70q.img.tar
DFE.zip
I do not have the Samsung firmware or anything else.
What should I do now?

Get frija from the link in my guide under tools, install it on your pc, then use it to download your latest stock firmware. Make sure you have odin 3.13.3 as well
In frija, enter the model number and the region code of the A70
In my case it would be SM-A705MN/ TTT
Do NOT flash other models, it must be for your Model. Also, dont flash csc_home in this instance, use csc. When loading the AP file, it will take a little bit to load in and you may see odin has stopped working, ignore that and it will eventually load, make sure auto reboot is unchecked everytime you use odin. The first step in my guide says to download and flash latest stock firmware. Anytime your going to do modifications to a device, make sure to have the latest stock firmware first.
Many thanks for suggestions.
I managed to download the stock firmware from https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-a70/firmware/SM-A705FN/BTU/#SM-A705FN and have uploaded it using ODIN 3.14 The phone has now started, like new / factory reset.
I am now setting it up (Samsung firmware) just to make sure I have got my phone back.
After I will try to zap and upload another ROM.

I didn't said that hold power button during flash. Press vol up+power after successful flash, that means when odin say pass then phone goes black and boots, while bootsplash is coming, immediately press and hold vol up+power to switch to recovery.

In download mode, Android 11, to exit, it litterly tells you on the screen to hold vol down and power to reboot. Vol up and power does nothing in this state. To get to twrp from download mode, hold vol down and power till screen goes blank and then press and hold vol up. This will boot to twrp. Other ways to boot to twrp is power off device, plug into pc, wait for it to charge, then hild vol up and power till it boots or if magisk is installed, use magisk reboot options.
Dude, your key combos and information is incorrect. You can not reboot to twrp from download mode by holding vol up and power.
Samsung changed the keymap combination to boot into recovery on 3.1, so to boot into recovery stock or whatever it is, just follow the steps:
Connect your cellphone to the USB port.
Press on Volume UP during boot.
Samsung does weird things

My key combo is true, actually the wrong one is yours This is the valid way also on the latest bootloader but like haky86 said, on latest bootloader Samsung wants you to plug USB cable to do this.
So we are agreed, there is no way to get to TWRP unless you are connected to USB? For example, on my one old phone, I used to keep TWRP backups on the SD card, and I could restore anywhere, I did not need to be near the PC with a USB cable.
