Question about powerbank with 2A output - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I will buy a power bank of TP-Link 10400 capacity and 2A output. Is the output any good for our device or the power bank has to be 3A like the charger ?

It will charge your phone, it just won't charge it quite as quickly as the original charger does.

Anything will charge it, but the output will dictate how long it will take.
A computer only outputs about 450mA (0.450A) but takes ages in doing so.

wireless charging overvoltage

I picked up a wireless charger the other day and when I used it I noticed my phone was pretty hot after. Hotter than normal USB charging. I went to read the manual that came with it and it said the maximum input voltage was 5v and I was using a wall USB outlet that outputs 1000mA which is about 9v , I know that's bad but would have damaged my phone at all or only my wireless charger??

Neither.
A wireless Qi charger will be warmer overall than corded charging, it's nothing to worry about (try playing a graphically intense game for an hour on the Nexus 5, that's heat).
When the charger says it will take 5V input, that is how much it will draw. For example, if an adapter outputs 12V, that's how much it can provide, NOT how much it is forcing in to a device. So the Qi charger is drawing 5V out of the 9V your USB wall charger can provide. The other 4V aren't utilized.
Same concept for example on a desktop computer. If you have a 1000W power supply and your computer is in sleep mode, you power supply is not shoving 1000W forcefully through the computer. So your computer is using like 100W and the remaining is available when needed but not active.

The voltage has to be correct. Always!!!
The max current of the power supply can be higher than the rating on the device.
For example your original charger says 5V 1A. You can use a charger with 5V and 3A. Your device will draw only as much current as necessary.
But the voltage always has to be correct.
In case of the qi charger:
If you power the qi charger with 9V instead of 5V you could kill the charger, but not the telephone.

How did you get 9v? In North America mains outlets provide about 120v and in Europe they output about 230v. That being said, I would think that the ac adapter that came with the charger would reduce the voltage to within the needed range (~5v). I'm no electrical engineer though, so someone correct me if I'm wrong...

That's what I meant, my wording was just incorrect. His USB wall adapter was not forcing a higher voltage, but providing more available power if necessary.

[Q] 1A or 2A charger

Hey guys, I am planning to buy a new charger for my phone.
I am confused between 1A and 2A charger.
Will charging my phone with a 2A charger have any effect on the battery life, Heard from someone that the 2A charger will kill my battery, Is it true?
Please advice!

It's not true. You may use a charger with 2A output but it's really enough 1A for One V. 2A charger might be useful if you will decide to use it for other devices that requires more powerful output.
No way you can reach 1A power consumption on this device, even if using navigation, bluetooth and streaming simultaneously at the brightest screen setting. And even if you plug a 2A charger, it will still draw just as much as it needs (max around 0.5A), so don't re-invent the wheel and use a factory spec charger - 1A.

Did you verify whether the powerbanks energy output is high enough? The HTC "stock" wall charger provides 5V and 1.5A. The powerbank I used for my old One S for example only provides 5V and 0.5A. Since the M9 discharges aproximately around 0.7A while the screen is on (there is a thread somewhere here on xda where someone measured the exact value but I can't find it right now) so weaker powerbanks like my old one may not be powerful enough.

2.4A Charger??

I've recently bought a 2.4A 5V charger for my tablet. I don't know the current ratings for this tablet. So is it safe to use the 2.4A output of the charger? It has the original battery on it.
I use one regularly.

I use one all the time as otherwise it takes 'forever' to charge my P605. It still takes quite awhile but probably two times faster than a 1A charger. I think the Note limits the input voltage to some extent.

Thank you for your reply. I've measured the currents while charging my tablet. When I use 2.4A output it is drawing around 300mA current which is nonsense. I think there is a compatibility problem with the adapter and the tablet. However when I use the 1A output it directly draws a stable 1A current. Now I am using this output to charge my phone and my phone's adapter to charge my tablet, which gives 1.3A. My phone is note 2.
So my problem is solved. Again thank you for replying

I'm using a RaVpower iSmart which has a 5V/2.4A and a 5V/3.0A port. the 3A port is very slow to charge but the iSmart 2.4A charges faster. I guess it may be the charger type, sensing/negotiating the maximum battery charge rate correctly could be the difference. Wish I had a way to test that theory.

Our charger is a basic 12V 2A charger, giving a total of 24W Power. I don't see anything special in the charger. It's probably not the usual QC we had heard of. I have seen in some reviews though about this charging technology being different and very interesting.
A problem would be: what charger for the car???

I don't see your point. This charger outperforms any other chargers in the market even turbo and dash chargers.
Why do you ppl always end up blaming others.
because i am against the proprietary charging algorithms..... dash charge is great? NOPE.... it forces you to use a special cable, a special charger, no 3rd part suppliers... high price of chargers, is it a good move for the customer?
same thing for this lenovo charging solution, ok the fastest one, but if i lose che official charger i am stucked with the NORMAL 5v 2a solution....
this is not a great thing imho, and all power banks i have qith 7/9/12v qc features are USELESS with the lenovo p2......
You're thinking only voltage my friend, check if your power bank can supply 2A at 12V. Probably no. Mostly all power banks bottlenecks at 1.5A.
So, there isn't a way to use another charger for fast charging?

my xiaomi power bank 2 20000mah does have qc3.0 and it's tested to arrive higher than 2A at 12v ... but even if other chargers are "only" capable to reach 12v at 1,5A ... it is still a missed quick charge because p2 uses proprietary charge coding
ok this is not THEp roblem, but just a con. like for dash charge people repeat at eveyone that oneplus is the fastes... but hey without an available dach charge power bank... that phone is s "joke"
