OxygenOS 3.2.4 still has random reboots - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Change log says they fixed it, however mine never had random reboots prior to this latest release.
Since this release, if I am using Google Maps, it goes maybe an hour before the phone just reboots itself. Happened 3 times in 4 hours on a ride on Sunday, which is a pain in the ass when you are on a motorcycle up in the Mtns on unfamiliar roads, and so you have to pull over and stop, fish it out of your jacket pocket, take off your gloves so you can use your fingerprint to unlock it, open up Google Maps and restart the navigation...
Anyone else seeing this? Never had it happen until this latest release. I tried wiping the cache... Phone is completely bone stock, never rooted or unlocked, etc...

Rebooting during google maps happened before 3.2.4.
I experienced it, too, but not since installing Cyanogenmod 13. Not sure if I'm just lucky or if the problem is fixed on it.

How is CM13? What features and functions did you have to give up? Anything buggy or not working with it?
To be honest, I have not played with ROMs in like 2 years or so... The stock ones got good enough that I didn't see the need and I don't really need root for anything. But if they truly work better than stock, then I will give it a shot.
I don't need a gazillion options and tweaks. I want simplicity, elegance, stability, speed and battery life... A little off topic I guess, but it's my thread so that's ok if it addresses my problem in my original post, right?

I haven't used CM in years, but I'm loving it. Lots of little features that make the overall experience great.
The camera quality is pretty good, but I think there's still room for improvement.
I don't think I've given up any features, but I gained several. Automatic do not disturb is included, too.
There are other flavors of CM custom roms, but I like what the official version brings.
It's also been quite stable overall. Same or better than oos from what I can tell.

Hmmm... I will look into it, maybe it is time for me to play with ROMs again...
Is there an Android N based ROM yet?

you're not alone. lot of reports of the random restarts. OP doesn't care.

Yeah, seems like a common problem. I think that it has only happened when using Google Maps and listening to music on my wired headphones. Although this morning I plugged my phone in to my PC to copy off a few pics, and about 3 minutes later I want to do something on the phone and it had turned itself off.

I don't have them. never had with this device.

I didn't have them until this latest update.

Same here never had a random reboot

Guys, please don't take offense to what I am about to say... I don't really care about people that don't have the issue. A common problem means that it simply is common, it doesn't mean that everyone or even most people will have it.
Just replying that you don't have the issue, serves absolutely no purpose. Lol

Just had three random reboots. Had reboot before while on maps. This time it was on latest update and doing texting

How much worse is the camera? Is baked in AppOps built in still? I miss that feature.

I'm also having the issue when using Waze or Google Maps navigation, and only when using navigation which may point to this being an issue with the Phone and GPS. I upgraded my phone to 3.2.4 but my phone is still restarting.

I Might Be Wrong But I Think This Phone Does Not Need Custom Roms

I had the gsm version of the GN on Tmobile and now i have the CDMA/LTE Version with Verizon and I got to say this is the first phone that I can actually say there is no need for a custom rom. I had the galaxy s, mytouch 4g, htc sensation and on all those phones a custom rom was always a must and that is not the case with this phone. I have tried many custom roms on here both gsm and cdma and I still havent found one that runs any better, faster or smoother then the stock one. Dont get me wrong I appreciate the developers working on this phone but thats just my opinion I wanted to share with everyone specially the people new to this phone. All you need is root and your good to go for a few custom mods and wireless tethering
No phone needs a custom ROM. A lot of people want custom ROMs. Some may want them more than others. You're happy with the stock setup and thats great. Doesn't mean everyone is.
True thats why I said I might be wrong. Just expressing my thoughts about this phone so far
Custom roms ruin phones. Too many issues. I dont care if they make certain parts better; they always cause more issues than it's worth IMO.

I agree. Not that I'm ungrateful to the modders/devs but I don't know how many times I've seen "smooth as butter, no bugs, ultra fast" etc only to have multiple issues with a ROM.
I totally disagree. My Nexus is running much better after rooting and running a custom ROM. And I have absolutely no issues to speak of other than better battery life and a noticeably faster phone.

I'm on AOKP build X1 with Leankernel 1.1.0. Custom voltages as well.
I'm on the fence about this, might give a custom from a try soon. Think I'll stick with the stock kernel for a while though.

Could you provide a link? Thank you.
Many people get a development-friendly Google Experience phone such as this for the express purpose of using custom ROMs. Many others just want a straight Android phone with no TouchWiz/Sense/Blur on it and that gets timely software updates. To each his own (though I like to push the boundaries of Android's potential and try various ROM/kernel/mod/theme combinations). Yes, custom ROMs often have bugs in them (our devs often work alone or with small teams for free and squeeze dev work between job and family life - besides, even stock has bugs, and Google has legions of coders and testers). In addition to some bugs, though, they usually offer performance, features, and eye candy not available on stock.
Has anyone seen John Connor?
this is what I'm on all stock rooted and clockwork recovery. battery life is great and I don't have the problems that some people have experienced with google apps and with the market not restoring etc. and like I said I have tried custom roms on both the GSM and CDMA/LTE Galaxy Nexus. just sharing my experience on both phone also to add Verizons Network runs 2-3 times faster then Tmobile's Network in Los Angeles.

i have to agree. i am rooted but find no rom got my interest. maybe cm9, but it's not stable yet.
my main reason to root my phones have always been to remove all the sh!t that verizon puts in their phones, so with this one being 90% crapware free,i feel no need to root it.
A ROM may not be necessary, but a new launcher for sure. Nova launcher allows enough customization to do most things.
Roman just released a "milestone" ROM version of aokp that's solid and ships with stock kernel. His drop down toggles are the best.
Its my daily driver now for sure. I hit it hard flashing since I bought this phone, but need to take a break and this ROM is it for me. And I'm sticking with stock kernel just to keep GTA 3 working

The OP has a point too. Most of the time things are pretty smooth. But I still notice a slight hesitation when I open the phone app, or messaging, and every so often it just starts to chug and lag like crazy. Is it better than ICS? Hell yes. Is it lag free? I'm afraid it's still not....

I love when people compare smoothness of an android to a phone that doesnt allow customization, doesnt handle widgets, and can basically do nothing. Of course the phone is going to run smooth when apple is the one who tells you how to control it.

When you have a basic OS, basic hardware works fine.
These threads are getting rather tiresome.
iPhones are not as smooth as you guys portray them to be.. and anyone that states they are haven't spent more than a 5 minutes with one.
I have first hand knowledge on an iPhone 4S from a friend who has one that always complains that its slow, doesn't connect to whatsapp all the time and various other problems... He complains to me because I'm more knowledgeable in tech related stuff then he is, thinking I could fix it.
Those of you that have had iPhones previously who say that it was much smoother are either missing their phones or simply don't remember what it was truly like because they didn't know any different.
I've played with my friends phone each time he complains about it to see if I can understand what he means, and each time I've experienced the lagginess that I've experienced in Gingerbread... its just the nature of phones.
So over time all phones get laggy, just as computers do... a fresh restart helps.
But Jellybean is by far the best one out there.
EDIT: Beyond this - his entire phone, case and all, fits on top of my screen... and the edges of my screen still pop out. I can do plenty of things that he can't, all of the things he can, and I don't have to have iTunes ruin my songs the way his does.
Call It a bonus.
Why can't we go a single day without having a incoherent/troll-bait thread?
Lol...

Is it perfectly smooth 100% of the time? Nope. There are still instances of lag and lower framerates. But it's by far the smoothest Android experience I've ever had, and I'm sure it will only get better in the future.

Samsung probably already gave the rom to T-Mobile. T-Mobile then adds their stuff like wifi calling, VoLTE, advanced messaging, etc, then once they're done testing it for stability they push it out. So really it's not just samsung were waiting on.
Nexus comes stock with it. Google gave T-Mobile the firmware long ago.
We probably won't get an update until the s7 comes out, or worse case scenario when the new note and edge plus come out....sad but true

Yes they may have the Firmware from Google for the nexus but that doesn't mean it works with Samsung's phone. They will still have to test the modem and make sure it works well on their network. Still need to test stability with the firmware from Samsung.

That is for the unlocked model. Also, T-Mobile needs to add bloatware and test, which would take a few months probably.
I can never understand why people care about these mediocre updates sometimes, that even breaks the phone at times. When it comes it comes as long as it comes within a 6- 8 months of google releasing it im fine. The software on this phone is excellent now.

At this rate I expect to have swapped to an S7 Edge before the S6 Edge+ gets Marshmallow. Thank god for Jump! On Demand

So after a while, how does your N5X perform and would you still buy it?

Hi guys,
So its time for me to get a new phone again from work, next month.
And as I'm not given an unlimited budget, I'm thinking of getting the Nexus 5X (then I dont need to pay any extre money).
Last time I got the Nexus 5, which still performs great, but its dated and is ofcourse out-performed by my private Galaxy S6.
Two years ago, I actually swapped my personal HTC M7 with the Nexus 5, cause it performed better.
I have the luxury of just using another phone for work, and keep that one for private use, its no problem.
Would you guys think the Nexus 5X might make me do the same again? Swap my S6 for the 5X?
I'm an IT person, so fps drops really grind my gears, in pretty much anything.
How does the 5X hold up on gaming these days? I cant imagine the UI/browsing/scrolling to cause FPS drops, cause that is still flawless on the normal Nexus 5 today.
Anyone else made the switch? Anyone else has this experience?
Thanks guys!
No, it's a medium range phone. Except the lack of biometric sensor, I prefer Motorola Phones.
I'm not totally happy with this phone.
Since the march update the phone is perfectly fine for most tasks. Gaming performance is fine too. But im not to picky. I went from a s6 to 5x. I switched because i killed my s6.... I prefer the 5x.
Skickat från min Nexus 5X via Tapatalk
It warms up a little in Asphalt 8 but no noticeable Lags.
I have the S7 and the N5X and using the Nexus as my daily driver.
Camera is still better on N5X and the experience always best even though the screen is a lot better on S7 and battery life also is better on S7 (tested several configurations with the N5X and can't make it the whole day with a little bit of music, 2 hours of video playing, and a little bit of browsing and whatsapp during the day).
Great phone that you can own for 280€ in Europe now... so best deal ever.
Going for the new HTC 10 the speaker in this phone is horrible.

try the surround sound mod in Nexus 5x themes and apps section . its a lot better now.
For me, the story starts and ends with Android updates, especially security updates. I'd thinkt that as an IT guy that would be high on your list of priorities as well. With the N5X, you'll get them as long as the hardware is still capable of running the latest Android version. Your S6 is nice now, but with the S7 out, how long do you think Samsung will continue to update the S6? I bought a Galaxy S3 on release around July 2012, less than 2 years later Samsung decided they were done and the phone still sits at Android version 4.4.2, with tons of security holes unpatched, even though here on XDA there are Android 6 ROMs for it. I mean, the S3 is *still*, 4 years after release, the most popular smartphone model in the world when you look at how many are still in use, and nearly all of them are vulnerable to security flaws that were fixed months or even years ago. Meanwhile the Nexus 5 was released a year earlier and is happily running the very latest Android version.
Literally the only issue I have with this phone is the speaker. I'll try the surround sound mod for that.
This phone is plenty fast. I switched from a 6P because it was too big. Going from the 810 to the 808 I haven't noticed a drop in performance, but I don't do anything performance heavy.
camera, fingerprint, stock android, quick updates, and dev community are flawless
after the march update, performance is perfect as well, both for normal use and gaming.
the only significant downside IMO, is that the battery is smaller than ideal for my daily use.
Also, and this is a lesser issue, the loudspeaker is sub-par.
I agree with everyone on the speaker, only other thing i wish was a better build quality, i have to use certain cases to get rid of the creaking plastic sound. For 200 dollars i plan on using this phone until the next Nexus.
The speaker is the only downside for me but I'm going to try some sound enhancements to see of it improves..
Despite of the small battery, battery life is still very good.. Performance is good and nexuses are so freaking smooth!
Sent from my Nexus 5X using XDA-Developers mobile app
for me the speaker is bad, but since i dont listen music on speakerphone much, its not bothering me.. the only downside for me is charging the phone. not the speed of charging, but the fear of the phone might catch up in fire. few users had experience this. my 5x performs really good, coming from htc m7, would buy it if LG fix this charging burning issue.

Havoc vs Pixeldust - which is better

Hi,
I'm looking to move from Stock ROM of P2XL to some CUSTOM ROM. I see that Havoc and Pixel Dust are great.
But the question is, which is better in terms of battery&Magisk hide?
I'm having troubles with Magisk Hide on STOCK so I would think to move on the custom one.
Also I don't play games, so I do not need high performance.

If you're looking an improvement, if any, in battery life, your best bet would be stock + kernel. Not much from custom roms these days with speed or battery as it's just down to customization nowadays. Google seems to know what's best for their own product for optimization. It's tough for one person to optimize something better than a company with many coders, testers, and resources working on a product that they made themselves.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply
I know that the stock ROM is the best option available, but I'm having trouble with Snapchat/GPay as they've stopped working.
Snapchat is constantly banning me as they say that I'm rooted. That's why I'm looking for a good custom ROM
But as the @blaaaazedup said, what's the best kernel in your opinion?
Regards,
Vortuks

ElementalX by flar2. His work has been around for years and knows his stuff, just like Franco. I'm a bit hesitant to try kernels from new developers as I've seen many make a couple of patches and stop while flar has a proven track record.

Do you use GPay on a March Update?
I have a problem with that, as the GPay says that I've altered my device in someway(rooted/unlocked bootloader).
I'll try stock(March update) with Magisk Canary.

I use GPay but I have been using locked - unrooted for about a year now. When I was last unlocked, safetynet passed with ElementalX on my OG pixel

Thanks, I'll try Havoc as they seem more reliable(to me).
Also, thanks for your participation in this thread.

This. I feel exactly the same way, but at the same time, both the kernels you named have their own apps specifically for their kernels, so it makes the user experience better as well. Other than that, it just works, lol.

I was using stock+rooted for a long time and noticed the SafetyNet was failing, so I just recently switched the DU and now it's passing the SafetyNet no problem.
But really, there isn't much to custom roms nowadays besides a bit more customization. My favorite would probably be the bottom brightness in the QS page.
