Lens attachment solutions? - HTC 10 Accessories

Hello everyone, I thought I'd post and ask if any one here uses a Lens attachment solution? Examples as Telescoping/Zoom, Wide Angle, or Fisheye lens. How are your experiences with the products? I'm planning on a trip to Europe, and don't want to carry a P&S Camera and a my HTC, so i want to just take great pictures with my HTC10 and have better lens solutions.
any help and experiences is greatly appreciated.

Looking for the best lens for the money HTC10
Bump up ale :silly:

Hello,
i got such a solution today cheap 10 € (noname). I can write you down some of my expirience here. It features a clipon solution, is delivered in a box with dust protection caps. Very handy to take with. It is absolute no professional solution but it is indeed fun to play with. I noticed a big amount of unsharpness in the corners which i think is related to the autofocus of the stock camera. I will try to attache some sample pictures.
- Fisheye
- 2x Zoom teleobjective (fixed 2x)
- 180° Fisheye
- 0.67 Wide (combined with macro below):
- Macro
So basically you can just screw all those lenses on the clipon. It is possible to attache the mounted clip in a way such that it does not cover the autofocus and laser. But it is not as sticky as i would want it. So it can move around on the lens. That is an issue since it the objectives or lenses have to be centered absolutetly in the mid to feature the best result. On the backside on the contact surface to the lens, theres some kind of rubber to protect the phone and lens from scratching.
Another thing i noticed is that the camera itselves has to look into something like a tunnel. So when i perfectly center those lenses physically i have to zoom in ca. 50 percent to get rid of the black rim. (Tunnelview). Resulting in loss of quality.
Theres a big amount of unsharpness at the outer rim of all my pictures. My personal favourite is the 2x zoom.
So heres some pictures (I am still no expert and i have to play with that stuff a bit):
- A photo of a swan with 2x zoom lens and max zoom of smartphone. Without the lense the swan and the people would be pixels only on that distance the lake is 230 metres at this point, so the swan is probably ca. 200 metres away:

}
- A photo of a small duckling i (The reason i wanted to get such lens). Since they are such shy that i am not able to take a photo of it from an possible distance max zoom + lens also:
-
- Test with the Fisheye:
- Test with the Macro Lens (rotten leaf):
-
About the macro Lens i have to say it is such effective that i have to get such dangling close to the object that if it was a butterfly or something i would scare it to hell for sure. And my hand was shaky because it was cold there i could not manage to get it sharp.
Hope this helps you.

Since i had really great results with the 2x lens heres another pictures:
Closeup of a young swan with 2x
:
Very closeup of a rotten dead tree killed by insects with 2x:
And here a photo from the same place with 2x lense where my skillevel just lacked in the one. And in the another it was better.
So i hope you can make you a picture from a 10 € solution. And no! This will not make a DSLR with 5000 € teleobjective out of your smartphone. And it is a bit disguisting to keep the clipped lens attached in the mid, while walking. So if you want to take quick snapshots with those lenses it is better to not put the phone into a bag. Or you will have to refit it and reinput your zoom settings, etc.

Oh, i totally forgot to show you what kind of type this solution was. Since this article was bought used, and i can not find a manufacturer or type on the parts i have to say "noname". Pic:
And as you can see on this picture the Autofocus or Focus seems to cause blurr too even without attached extra lens. So i have to maybe get into using this properly. It takes time to play with. And it is really fiddly to attach it properly. Nothing for quickies.

I have found these clip-on style are just ok. Fish eye wasn't all that great, and the wide angle looked more like taking a photo through a pair of binoculars. You could see the sides of the lens. They're cheap, so you get what you pay for.

This hits it in short.
I was personally interested in maybe some NFC or bluetooth attached camera review (opinion). Whilst i think they are way too expensive. I would maximum pay 50 € for such. ). 500 $ is like a punch in the face. Look for a real camera for 500 €.
And also i was interested in one of these bigger telezoom clip on thingies. With e.g. 12x or such.
You can find a lot reviews on this things on youtube. Some for the very cheap camera lenses "sound" very negative. But do not forget the fun. Nothing professional.
And binoculars work fine instead of a specific lens. Just hold it infront and try yourselves

Do you have a link for the clipon lens?

Nö sorry there are several similar available. I bought mine used. There is no vendor imprint. Just have a look at e.g. something like Amazon. I would not pay more than 10 Euro.

{Review/Pics/Unboxing} Phone fisheye lense, Works with any phone!

Hey so I got this today, And seeing as it works on pretty much all phones I decided to post here, In the first post I will have pictures of it / boxing, and in the second pictures taken with it,
It comes with 2 metal rings which are sticky on the back, these can attach to most phones camera's, The lens will magnetically attach to the ring, it's a strong hold but dont go shaking it around, Mine fell of onto concrete earlier, not much damage done but I tiny chip, Unnoticeable on the camera however so that's good One of the rings has a small indent on the side, this is for the Flash on an iPhone 4 so that the ring doesn't cover it, If anyone wants pics of it on an iphone 4 just ask, I have one on the iPhone and one on my SGSII, Now pics! (Also available are A macro/wide angle lens whcih will fit on the same ring, But fisheye is more fun , Just search ebay for Phone lens)
Many of these pics are self explanatory so there won't be too much text

(Ring with indent and backing to take off)
(Model (I think))
And that's it for now, I'ma just reserve 2nd post and start to resize some more images If I've helped you out y'aknow.. There's a thanks button *hint*hint*
Thanks for reading
Now for pics with it
I may add more, Or maybe make a thread for people to show off theirs Either way..
(Me, It was early ish, I will try get a better picture of it on)
(A bit blurry)
(If you know what this show is, I'd like to say I don't watch it, It was on and I was too lazy to show, But as you can see it makes TV's look awesome )
And this is it for now, I'd like to mention as well, the image quality is actually very good on all of these but they may not look as good due to a resize from several thousand pixels in width to 500, also they have been re-saved as a jpeg, If there are any you would like full size (For any reason.. lol) PM me or post in this thread, Now due to Milads request I'll take some of the phone with it on.
Thanks for reading

The metal ring has a sticky back, Put that around the camera, that will stay there, but is removable, after that the lens will snap on to it (Lens is magnetic )

There will be some soon Resizing now
Added, Just noticed many of them are Dull, Will go take some flower pictures or skateboard stuff in a while
I will remove these ones tomorow and do it in a better location, but these 2 are taken in the exact same position, No zoom tricks or anything, just one with the lens one without, as you can see, makes a huge difference
Does the macro lens work ok for shooting vids ?

Photojojo lens attachments

I received my Photojojo lens set this past Friday and I've been snapping away ever since. I love the wide-angle and fisheye lenses. The macro is sweet but it only works REALLY close to an object. I haven't found a chance to use the telephoto lens just yet.
The metal ring that attaches to the camera body fits just fine in my Qubits snap-on case (though I did mount it slightly off center). The fisheye lens is a little bulky and doesn't exactly fit (centered) with the case on, which you can see in the some of the pics. I've ordered a TPU bumper and I'll remount the magnetic ring on the camera body. That should help get better centered images with the fisheye.
Hope this helps anyone considering the Photojojo lenses.

It was $58 shipped to me in CA.

I actually purchased the macro, wide/fisheye, and telephoto versions from Photojojo (link) back when I had my Droid X. The metal rings didn't fit on my Droid X fantastically, but they worked. The rings, however, fit like they were made for the Galaxy Nexus. The ring fits around the camera, without any overhand onto the back plate. (The previous post with images somewhat demonstrates this fact.)
Photojojo has the kit for about $50. For individual lenses, it's probably cheaper to go to a Direct-from-China place. DealExtreme even has some in blue and red versions.

I've been switching lenses often and the metal ring hasn't budged one bit. It seems to be stuck on there real good.
Interesting! May have to buy a set. You can still remove the battery cover without touching the metal ring?
i put in my order earlier today, i should receive it on friday/sat im looking forward to it! i wish that they threw in like a cheap lanyard to put the lenses on when you buy the set. but its okay!

Go to page 1 near the bottom. The adhesive side of the ring stays on pretty well
With the adhesive side touching the phone, what is the other side? I'd be worried about not having a lens attached and it sticking to my pockets and attracting dirt.

Galaxy S II 30mm lens compatible case

Updated July 3rd:
This is a DIY case I made using a cheap TPU case, Sugru, and a 30mm adapter ring. 30mm is one of the smallest standard sizes for lens accessories, most commonly used by camcorders. By having a case with a 30mm ring, I can use accessories like lenses, filters, and lens caps that are normally meant for camcorders.
The first version was centered around the international S II's LED/lens piece. The second version was centered around just the lens, and is the one I'm using now.
Currently waiting for lens cap and circular polarizing filter. Macro lens arrived today, and below are some shots taken with it, comparison pictures taken without it, and some pics of the actual lens/case
Cost (bought most from ebay):
Case: $1.50
Ring: about $1-2
Sugru: Sold in larger packs, but actually used amount comes out to perhaps $2 (http://sugru.com/)
Macro+wide angle kit: $15-$20
Circular polarizing filter: $5
Lens cap: $2
Also available, though I haven't bought it:
2x, 3x, 4x telephoto lenses: $15-$100
Various filters: $?
Step up rings: $1-2 (for use with other size accessories, like 37mm)

The 30mm mount is for a CPL, lens cap and macro lens that are on their way. Maybe a 2x or 3x zoom in the future. No situation I need those in is going to require flash, especially not the kind of flash a phone gives

CPL is a circular polarizing filter, which helps control light in outdoor pictures, reduces reflections, makes blue skies bluer etc. macro lens is for close-up shots, zoom self explanatory.
I already have a macro lens, but it's one of those tiny made-for-phones ones. Originally it came with a magnet, but I modified it:
Now it attaches to my case. The case in these pictures is a $1.30 one from ebay, one I absolutely love, so I tend to buy a ton of them and use them for various things like this. Got one unmodified one which the small macro lens fits into, then the one with the 30mm ring. One was cut up to make the little rubber thing that holds the small lens in place, one was cut up to make a microUSB dust protector, and several more have died to just testing stuff.
I also have a DIY tripod adapter that fits the case
So basically I'm making an entire accessory system around these $1.30 cases.
Finally, here's a macro image taken with the small (not a 30mm) macro lens
If anyone is interested in making their own there's a bit more info on materials, what to get etc here: http://www.pocketables.com/2012/06/from-the-diy-drawer-30mm-camera-accessory-adapter-case.html

No, the final photo was taken with the tiny made-for-cellphones lens you see in some of the images you quoted. The result with that lens is what made me go ahead with the 30mm system which this thread is really about, which uses "real" lenses, not that "made-for-cellphone thingies
And no I don't really have any plans to sell, but at a cost of about $5 per case for just the adapter case, it wouldn't be hard to make those plans. Then all you need is lenses and other things off eBay or elsewhere and they screw right in
too good!!

Well if you can get about the same effect or better using actual camera accessories then I'd pay probably 15$ , once you are able to get some photos up showing the whole setup would work you may have your first customer....pretty sure this is one of those impulse buys when you buy something cool that you know you don't need lol

If you only want to play with it a bit, this is a good kit to start with:
http://dx.com/p/universal-13mm-wide...ent-for-digital-cameras-and-cell-phones-14953
It's the same as what took that picture. It comes with a macro and wide angle lens, and attaches magnetically to an adhesive metal ring you stick around the camera lens. I didn't like the magnet system and made the stick-in system that you see in the images that have been quoted here. It's basically a nice "starter kit"
I was so impressed by it and found it so fun doing macro shots that I started the 30mm project. Parts wise for it you can count $5 for case parts, $20 for macro/wide angle lens kit, $5 for a circular polarizing filter, about $2 for a lens cap, and while I haven't ordered one, about $20 for a 2x/3x telephoto lens.
Still waiting for all the accessories aside from what's on the case, but once stuff starts coming in, I'll post extensive samples.
you can try this..

Wow! Awesome! Very interesting to try..
I was stupid enough to order the macro lens from Dealextreme, which we all know doesn't give a rat's ass if the item ships in two days or two months. I checked back in to see it hadn't even shipped, so I canceled it and re-ordered it on eBay. Should ship Monday, so will still be a while until it arrives :/ CPL should be right around the corner though

Looks like a great project. My only thought as a photographer is that you should make sure that you align the centre of the adapter ring with the centre of the phone lens. This will ensure that any lenses that you mount are optically aligned. If you don't do this, there is a great risk of introducing a lot of distortion.

That was one of the things I feared.. Guess I'll have to redo the case at one point then. Shouldn't be an issue since I have both more cases and rings on the way

Magnetic ring for add-on lenses

Apparently the large ring around the rear camera is magnetic and can fit mobile-camera lenses onto it. Pretty neat.

there are maybe also magnets in the lenses, set in so, that they attract to the N5 ? dont know just an idea
edit: after i have seen the video I am pretty sure that there are also magnets in the lenses. Very cool, now it makes sense that the lens is that big. The camera hardware in the case is small like in other phones

You would just have to buy the appropriate lens for what you want to do.
I had an Olloclip for my iPhone when I had it, I loved it. It had a wide angle, fisheye and macro lenses.
This is awesome! I will for sure be looking into this...
I have a magnetic macro lens that works beautifully with the N5. Got it from DealXtreme for under $10 way back when.

Right, but for far away shots is the wide-angle lens the only thing that is available? I'm just curious if there is anything out there that will maybe make the shot seem closer. Something similar to optical zoom.

The Photojojo telephoto will give you 2x zoom, I'm sure there is something more powerful out there though...
Anyone has more links to Dealxtreme o whatever lenses? i dont know about this world but it seems to be pretty cool.
Thanks
So watch out for your Bank cards. Don't put them in the same pocket as the magnetic lens.
official img from photojojo site.
I'm sure this phone is N5...
this img appeared only when I accessed from my N5... not showing when accessed from laptop
i don't know how well it will perform combined with the ois. if the sensor and the internal lens moves because of the ois shouldn't also the external lens move? i'm not an expert in photography, but i think that if the sensor moves it probably will be out of the focal point of the external lens leading to crappy photos.
Not on nexus 5 but here is a old thread and pics using different lenses

I have a magnetic macro lens that works beautifully with the N5. Got it from DealXtreme for under $10 way back when.

Zoom/Telescopic lens for my Nexus 5

So after all the developments we've seen in phones in past few years, digital zoom is as useless as it ever was (only hollywood has access to some amazing tech in this field). Anyway, with no built in optical zoom in Nexus 5, I started looking out and bought myself an 8X zoom lens with a manual focus ring.

In the first set I was amazed even at that distance I could easily make out individual leaves on the tree behind those flags. I found it quite impressive. Wouldn't you say? (all pics are reduced from actual size from nearly 4MB to less than 1MB)
Now the best part, the price 8.56CAD (Less than Rs 500)! With FREE SHIPPING
And it comes with a mount which allows the lens to be used with almost any phone camera, and besides that the lens itself can be used as a very decent 8X zoom monocular/telescope.
The lowest focal length is 3m, so you can get real closeup pics of (say) a spider on your ceiling too  I used it on my birds, who never stay still when I come near with a camera
The mount also has a standard tripod input, so you can mount your phone on any tripod you might have. Its a big plus.
The above are all pros, and for cons: There's some chromatic aberration where sharp lines with high contrast meet, but that's normal for all inexpensive lenses.
And here's the link: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/8X-Optical-Z...e-Phone-Apple-iPhone-4-4S-5-D9-/400601927751?
The above listing has ended, vin4yak suggested more:

So.. what do you all think?
..
Wow look realy good!
i will order one myself!
Great, enjoy!
By the way, I missed mentioning in my OP that the mount also has a standard tripod input, so you can mount your phone on any tripod you might have. Its a big plus.
ps. your forum name gave me a chuckle!

Great, though I already have 2 tripods so I'd have still bought the same one
Do you have prior experience with AliExpress? I have always gone with eBay sellers and have great experience with them over the years. I tried DealExtreme a few times and always regretted it. Last I ordered from them was Nov-13, which I finally received in last week of Feb-14
AliExpress is as safe as eBay and has much more gadgets
Well, I've always made great experience with AliExpress.. There's also buyer's protection for 60 days, not only 45 as PayPal. Try it...

Alright, thanks. That's good enough for me to give it a shot next time.

Yeah, I had the same question in mind..
@the_rebel Can you please post some pics of the device with and without the nexus 5 attached to it? It would be great. Thanks!
Alright, here goes:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9Bg_GtAO8DTREZIdVZDaGFIZnc/edit
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9Bg_GtAO8DTVXAwbFNaZEJjRW8/edit
With and without the phone attached. The lens is mounted on a tray sliding on a guiding rail (see arrows in first pic), then there's a thumb screw to tighten it in place (clearly visible in both pics). The mount has springs inside that allow it to stretch and grab a phone even larger than N5.
The lens hole is exactly the size of the black ring around N5 lens, but even if that had been much smaller, it'd be ok as the lens on the phone is much smaller than the surrounding black ring.
Best way to attach it is first fit the mount to see that the lens hole is lined up, and then screw in the lens.
Let me know if there are any more questions.
By the way, I dropped the lens yesterday on a stone floor from about 5ft, it left a small mark on the body but everything else is undamaged - nice to know, eh?
