Keyboard Hot Keys - Note 7 Questions & Answers

Has anyone found the option in the default keyboard to set up hotkeys? My Note 4 had an option to set a long press on the number keys to one of 10 different editable words/phrases. I'm not finding that option anywhere in the Note7.
Thank you!

[Q] Way to easily change the keyboard?

Hey there,
I was used to changing the keyboard easily by long-pressing any text-input possible screen area and then selecting the desired keyboard.
Now I have to go all the way to the settings and change the default keyboard to the one i want to use at the time.
Is there any way to change this in a smoother way?
Cheers

Some keyboards support long pressing space (i think), other way is to select a text field and then pull down notification bar and select the "select input method" there.
/Edit:
Stock Keyboard support longpressing space, SwiftKey X does not

NOTE 2 Tips & Tricks thread

Hi guys Zoid here,
writing to give you a comprehensive list of cool things I have found with the Galaxy Note 2. I figured it was about time we had one such list compiled considering the amount of people who now possess this wondiferous device ( 3 million devices sold in 37 days! sweet mamajama!!).
I will add a few things about the Galaxy Note 2 that may be common knowledge to the initiated, for those who are picking up a Galaxy device for the first time. I will try my best to keep the list updated with things you guys may find, along with the name of who posted the tip. These will be listed in various sections.
So without further ado:
-----------------------------------------------------------------S-PEN Tips & Tricks-----------------------------------------------------------------
* You can touch the lock-screen with the S-Pen to get a cool "ink spill" effect. You must have the water touch lock screen on. -Zoidpilot
* Press the side button on your S-Pen while hovering to quick change tools from pen to eraser in S-Note.-Zoidpilot
* Hold the S-Pen side button and double-tap your screen at any time to bring up a quick note. -Zoidpilot
* Hold the S-Pen side button and long press your screen to take a screenshot anywhere. -Zoidpilot
* Hold the S-Pen side button and draw on the screen to begin "cutting" out anything on screen. -Zoidpilot
* Hover over most things with S-Pen to see more info (like E-mails, or on screen buttons and links). This is called Airview.-Zoidpilot
* Hover over the edges of the screen to scroll in places that scrolling is available (i.e. XDA app).-Zoidpilot
* Drop down the notifications bar while the S-Pen is out and tap the violet icon on the right to open Quick Command.-Zoidpilot
* Go to Menu > Settings > S-Pen > and check "S-Pen Keeper" to sound an alert whenever you leave your S-Pen somewhere and walk away.-Zoidpilot
* While you have the keyboard open (like while writing a text) long-press the button on the left next to the space bar and select the symbol that looks like a
"T" to begin Handwriting to Text. You can write and it transcribes it to text automatically. Long-press the same button to switch back.-Zoidpilot

* Go to Menu > Settings > Display > Page Buddy / to choose what shows on the screen when you pull the S-Pen out.-Zoidpilot

P.S. Does anyone read Atomic Robo?
I want to know how you draw on a picture from your gallery and then save it or send it or just play around with it. If you hit menu and do draw on picture it turns the picture over. Something this simple I can't figure out.

In a nutshell, you have to have the Samsung keyboard set. Long press the button next to the space bar and select the Icon that looks like this. (see attached)

You can't really right on the calendar you can take a picture of the calendar and write on that. The spen is more of a toy to distinguish the phone for prospective buyers than a feature.

Took me awhile to figure this one out...but here's how I got it to work for me:
Open picture from gallery
Hold down s-pen button
With the s-pen button held down, press the screen
This will take a screenshot that you can then draw on. Works from anywhere on the phone so far.....

I'm wondering if this is part of an update that hasn't made it to the US yet. I remember seeing this possible in youtube videos but can't make it happen.
I'm also trying to get the pen detection to work and automatically switch to the handwriting pad when it's pulled out. It worked until I installed LightFlow and I can't get it to work even after it's been uninstalled.

Did you change the settings back after you uninstalled Lightflow? Menu > Settings > Language and keyboard > Settings icon next to "Samsung Keyboard" > Pen detection
1. Thanks for this. You helped me solve the mystery of the "Quick Glance" feature I had enabled but couldn't figure what was triggering it.
2. How do I get the smiley button to replace the return button on the keyboard? I saw it at least once so I know its an option, but now its back to being the return key.
Yes I pressed that button and passed the thing that looked like a T and a word screen opened but could not write with the pen in the space. .Nothing showed up

Here is what I got to work. .hold the pen button and click on the picture of the pen in the top right hand corner. It should bring up a menu next to it. The first item is a writing utensil which you can choose a thickness and a color. Once you do that go out of there and whatever screen you are on you can write on. .. if you need I can try and get pictures. . Not to used to this machine yet
Maybe here is a screenshot..ok guess not says uograde mt tapatalk.. I dunno..

Draw on a picture:
Open image. Hit menu>advanced edit.
Two choices. Choose Photo Editor (it's a free app made by Samsung...go get it first).
The select "decoration" in lower right. Then "Drawing".
You now have an eraser and a pen. If you touch the pen icon you can choose colors and line thickness.
Also, another tip. On any image...you can long press and the select an area that will automatically allow you, once you have selected your area and choose save, to pin that image area selection to a contact in your address book. Face tag.
To write in the calendar you must be in month view mode. Hold the phone in portrait and click the calendar/pen icon in the upper left. The you can draw on the calendar.
Oops just saw the question is still answered...

no, you can draw on the calendar.
begin handwriting mode by tapping on upper left icon
this is the message you get when entering handwriting mode:
access pen tools
go crazy
when you get OUT of handwriting mode the images "disappear" but you will see them again when you enter handwriting mode at another time.

[Q] change s-pen default app?

Hello all,
Is it possible to change the default app from "s-notes" to autodesk "sketchbook pro" whenever the s-pen is removed from the phone?
I tried to set the "buddy" feature but that didn't work. ... maybe because sketchbook pro isn't officially s-pen enabled?
Anybody know a way to do this?
Thanks!

You can change the shortcuts on the extra screen that pop up when you take the s pen off the phone just like any other screen.
Ok, so far the best I can do is uncheck Settings > S Pen > Open Popup Note, then turn on Settings > Display > Page buddy, tap the text part of that option to get to the S Pen page option and check it. Then, when I pull my s-pen, it will open a special home screen page that I can at least add shortcuts and widgets to.
However, this only works with the stock TouchWiz home launcher. Still looking for another option.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2162135
Can you guys pls tell if its possible to multi-task using S-pen i.e. can S-pen be used open the list of recent apps, the way long pressing home button does?
Thanks

then u can go to advance setting and change popup delay

You can't enable pop-ups for tablets. I assume it's a design decision because the keys are that much bigger.

Step 1: Head to Settings menu and then choose Apps.
Step 2: Press the gear icon in the top right-hand corner and choose Default Apps > Assist & voice input.
Step 3: Tap the Assist option and choose None from the pop-up menu.
The current selection is Google, which means that the Google Now shortcut on the lock screen will be replaced. And now for that caveat: Changing this setting also disables long-pressing the Home button to open Google Now on Tap.
If you change your mind, you can always switch the Assist app back to Google.
Thanks you very very much.
I solve the problem.
Happy new week
