What games? I have 2 on my note and they run perfectly so far. Maybe a lot of things happening in background when you were trying to play?

I installed Real Racing 3 and it was maybe running 15-20 FPS at most. Makes no sense.

I play fallout shelter, and it crashes after during launch.

I had an S7 (Exynos) before and I was very impressed to see how good it ran games for an extended amount of time. I ran an app called system monitor which has a pop up window showing CPU utilization and speed and I was very impressed that the S7 would run all of its high powered cores on 2.1-2.3Ghz in the games I tested. ( HIT, Mobius Final Fantasy , Non Stop Knight )
Now with the note 7 (Exynos 930FD), I immediately noticed that Mobius Final Fantasy is now stuttering on my device so I ran system monitor and saw that that 2 of the big cluser cores are offline and the other 2 are only running at 1.4Ghz. I restarted the app, saw all 4 cores peg at 2.3Ghz for about 10seconds then it turns off the 2 cores then after about 15seconds more the big cluster drops it clock speeds to 1.4Ghz and has a very stuttery game play.
This did not happen with my S7. I do not know if the latest software update had anything to do with this as I updated the phone before I installed anything. The same deal happens on my GF's phone too.
I only played the said games when I still had my S7 (which i've sold, but not for the note 7 )
I am hoping that this is just a software issue on the Note 7 but on the other side its 'just the same' phone.
I have seen some Exynos gaming videos on the Note 7 in youtube with 60FPS and they look very smooth but I am not sure if it is due to the 60fps capture.
I have also tried running the screen resolution in 720P and the Big clusters still drop to 1.4Ghz and power off 2 cores. quote.

Are you guys using the Snapdragon 820 or Exynos 8890 ?

820

I have noticed something, If I press the home button and return to the game or just use the multitask button and return to the game immediately the game frame rates go up and the game runs smooth for the next 10-15seconds before it stutters. I remember with the Nexus 6P when the phone thermal throttled after 2-3mins of gaming if I put it infront of the AC the cores would run at max speed and my game would be very smooth but on the note 7 it will drop the performance. Im thinking this could only be a software glitch.

I have the same model as you and noticed that after the latest update , games that were not lagging at launch now lag and stutter. Hopefully a fix is coming.
My s7 edge exynos does not lag with the same games. This N930FD also didn't lag in games when I got the phone last week, until the latest software update.

I have that one off, on my GF's Note 7 its not even enabled. I have also tried uninstalling it.
I appreciate the tips, are the said games on this thread running smooth for you ?
Since you have HIT, do you get 60fps ( using the fps counter on the game tool ) on the character menu with graphics at 4 ?

Just two games. Shooty skies and sky force reloaded. Before that latest software update I was getting 60fps all the time . After the update I can frame drrop to 40 and less and stuttering.

Does pokemon go lag for anyone else? Coming from a iPhone 6 the lag is quite noticeable

Have you mates tried to doing a factory reset and clearing the cache partition after you updated the firmware?
It fixed the stutter issues for me.

Hit on the S7 was very very smooth at Graphics 4, Mostly hovering around 56-60fps. In Graphics 5 it sat around 50-55 depending on what is on screen. With the note 7 I still get similar FPS but lower and stuttering at times on Graphics 4.

I performed a factory reset, before and after updating I did not clear the cache anymore since I thought a factory reset will clear the cache. I will do that in a bit. Did you have stuttering issues prior to doing a factory reset? What games?

I didn't have anymore stuttering issues after I did a factory reset.
Games I played were Asphalt 8 and Shadow Fight 2. Although I had more frames on the firmware that came with the phone before I updated it.

Does the galaxy nexus lag with latest games??

I have a nexus S and some games like GTA3 and temple run heavily lag. I was thinking of upgrading to galaxy nexus but I am not sure about it's combination of resolution and GPU? I mean in nenamark 2 my nexus S scores the same as galaxy nexus. :S
Ofcourse there is a dual core CPU and more Ram which might actually be the limitation of nexus S as I doubt the SGX540 is limiting me at 800x480. But still want to confirm gaming performance.
Well on temple run I experience no lag whatsoever, same for every other game I play, don't have any experience with gta 3 though.

You are on stock?
GTA3
I was playing GTA3 earlier today and it runs smooth. I had a Galaxy S II and that ran it a little smoother then the Nexus but it almost seemed a little sped up. You will be happy with GTA3 on the Nexus....
Nothing lags. With the CPU handling the HD Decoding the GPU is left to do most of the graphics.
GTA3 works great btw.

Did not find any game that is unplayable or slow so far....
All the internal memory is available, that is the beauty of MTP, you don't have different partitions, so everything is installed over the same partition (and there is a symbolic link to /mnt/sdcard in order to make applications that want to save anything to the SDCARD happy, but again, it is the same partition, so all your free space is available no matter what you wanna do).
Temple Run is silky smooth for me on a stock GSM phone with 4.0.1. I experienced lag playing Six Guns though.
I experience a tiny bit of lag on stock 4.0.4
Flashed liquidsmooth and franco kernel though and everything has been super smooth since.
I experienced lag spikes when running gangstar Rio city of saints ... not sure is it software issue though.

I got a *tiny* bit of lag when playing Dead Space...although, I was at the time getting a text message, and email, and a calendar notification within about 1 minute of each other so I would like to think it wasn't really the game causing the lag. Haha. Dead Space runs amazingly well otherwise, though. Very happy with that purchase.
9mm seems to lag to me, and shadowgun is choppy but I guess its just the controls

yeah i thought the same but, like in most smartphones today, only the numbers matters. pretty sure normal users wouldn't even know that there is such a thing like a pentile matrix

The galaxy S2 had a fairly low resolution compared to it's competitors and yet it managed to be a huge success. But yes you are right, the HD pentile screen was put purely for marketing purposes.
Or better yet the nexus should have had iphone 4S GPU.
I wish samsung supported it's phones better, I would have gone with an S2 without a second thought.
Now the only other option is HTC one S which brings in faster chipset but significantly lower resolution so much better gaming performance. Now if only the pricing is right.
I'm on a Verizon Galaxy nexus running stock 4.0.2 and regarding GTA3 I haven't noticed any lag at all (I'm on the second island with hi-res textures and the mod to enable streetlights etc).
Temple run on the other hand runs horribly. After about 1500m or whenever the red coins start coming I started noticing major lag to the degree of making the game unplayable. It's sad that a second gen iPod touch can play this game fine but the galaxy nexus can't.

[Q] Does Root + Debloat Resolve Performance Issues?

I just got my Galaxy Tab S 8.4 from Amazon and I'm already having issues with it
I play Simpsons Tapped Out and this game ran without any lag on my 2012 Nexus 7. However, when I load up the game on the Galaxy Tab S 8.4, I am having major lag while trying to pan around the town and even while trying to tap the buildings to collect money. I imagine Tapped Out is an incredibly casual and lightweight game(resource wise), so it makes me worried about how 'real' games will perform on the device.
My question is, if I root and debloat the tablet, will this improve performance on the tablet? Or is this the kind of performance that I can expect from the Exynos tablets?
I found this thread, and I was going to follow those instructions to debloat it with titanium backup(I assume I can use that to debloat it). Has anyone tried this and noticed an increase in performance?
Thanks in advance for anyone who can help
As a follow up. I just went through and rooted the tablet, froze all that bloat and it's still performing like garbage in Simpsons Tapped Out. How is this possible that the Exynos chip isn't as good as a 2 year old tablet? Is it the QHD display? Is it TouchWiz that's causing it?
Out of all the reviews I looked at, none talked about this type of lag. This Simpsons game can't be that graphic intensive. Why is it stuttering so badly when I pan around the town?

May just be that that game is confused by the Exynos 8 core cpu. The device clearly has the power to run a simple game like that. In short, I think it may be the game and not the tablet.
One other idea. Try running Nova Launcher. But other users have had the same issue as you with that particular game.

That is really sad to hear. I can't get Family Guy working properly on the tablet and now this Besides watching content when I'm in bed, this is all I use the tablet for. It's making it really hard to format my 2012 Nexus 7 so I can give it to my father.
I'm curious if it's the CPU or the GPU that the game is having an issue with. I have had my eye on this forum lately and am getting excited that the CyanogenMod ROM might be the solution to my issue with these casual games. Positive thoughts :fingers-crossed:
Thanks for your input. I will say that it handles my 1080p content from my Drobo with BS Player flawlessly. So at least there's something

I've loaded up a few games under my current cm ROM and they have all played flawlessly. Though I haven't tried the games you mentioned, and I'm married a month away from having a baby so I'm a bit too broke to buy something I'm not going to play.
Tonight there should be a ROM with sound working if you want to give it a go.

Both Simpsons Tapped Out and Family Guy Quest for Stuff are free to play games.
I have been keeping an eye on your CyanogenMod thread. I have never used it for more than a day on my Nexus 5 before, but I'm excited to try it out on my Tab S 8.4
Clash of clans works great! Try it. It's crazy addicting
I installed Simpsons on my S 8.4, it seems to be running smooth for me. But I only started the game and my city is pretty basic at the moment, maybe performance issues start with a larger city ?

I wouldn't say I have a huge city, I'm only level 17. Nothing like my level 40 city in Family Guy. But I have a dozen or so characters unlocked in Simpsons. I can log out of my account and play as a guest I think to test on a starter city.
well, it wont' connect to the server now :/ but I will test it when I can
There have been reports of issues with this game on the other galaxy tablet forums as well. Since this tablet is fully capable of running even more complex games I would focus on the software as the issue. I'm not sure if these issues have been relayed to the developer but that would a great start to a resolution.

Back to the initial topic: Debloating can eliminate some of the background services that consume processing power. But it would surprise me if this would result in any relevant speedup (on an Octacore).
Other than that, probably the color adaption+enhancement thing does cost some performance (and battery).
And Mali T628 drivers might not be optimized.

It plays perfectly fine on my 2012 Nexus 7. There has been a swarm of lag complaints about it on blogs dedicated to the game. So maybe it's on their end
We now have some excellent rom's in development which should improve your experience.

i loaded a new game and it ran ok until I got about 3 or 4 people on the screen. i see different lag spots. one happens when it first loads people's animations. so even if i scroll away, when i come back it seems to load those animations again. another lag spot i see is when i try to tap on a building to activate the money or finish the person's task. when the money bounces out of the building, i see lag spikes here. they don't go completely away after i collect the money, but shortly after
the family guy from the amazon store plays fine and doesn't have this lag. i also read on some dedicated simpsons tapped out blogs that EA is aware of a lag issue. however, im not entirely sure if i am getting the same lag they are confirming. we will see though.

Out of morbid curiosity, have you tried my cm port?

NOVA3 Free and Asphalt 8 slower than a Huawei honor 6

This is really crazy,
I've compared NOVA3 Free and Asphalt 8 with a Honor 6 and to my surprise, the Honor 6 is more fluent.
The 550ML have some scenes which are slower (for example the long view in the start of Nova3 free)
3Dmar score is 18300 for my 550ML and 13200 for the Honor6, Honor6 is in Full HD.
How is this possible ? The lag on the 550ML is not enormous but still you can observe it.
No applications runnning in the background, no powersave mode enabled, latest update.
Could it be that lollipop is not optimised for games ?
I don't have the games you mention, but I do play a few, namely Traffic Racer, Lane Splitter, Cut the Rope, Angry Birds... and all of these are fantastic on my 550ML.
But I also have Parking Mania installed and it is terrible, the screen rendering as the game scene moves is lagging badly and making it difficult to play. I find it difficult to blame the phone given that some of the other games which work well should be even more demanding on the system.
Could it be that some games just don't run well on Intel Chip? (I'm no expert so tell me if I'm talking crap).

I have 551ML and i have tried NOVA 3 freedom edition... Its plays smoothly no lags no frame drops...Graphics are amazing...No problems faced by me in any games yet..I played Nova 3 Freedom edition, Modern Combat 4 Zero Hour, Modern Combat 5...All these games played well without any issues..I have high end variant of zenfone 2 so have enough ram...Maybe Ram is your culprit.. Try closing apps which are not in use and use in-built ram booster
I also noticed some lag on a few games.. Subway Surfers, DomiNations, Simcity are a few examples. Games that aren't at all that demanding, especially Subway, which always ran smoothly on my 1st gen Moto G, without any problems, and on my 550ML it's noticeable some frame drops. Now I don't think this can be RAM problems, considering Moto G has half the ram and never had such drops. Maybe some games aren't optimized for this soc? .. It has to be because, I've tested games that are flat out heavier and don't have this consistent lag..
One thing is for sure, this phone should have more than enough horsepower to run all these games without issues, yet it doesn't.

Or this could be related to lollipop since some games are running low slower on lollipop than on Kitkat, at least it is what i've read.
A bit disappointed this frames drop on the 550ML, when you see the benchmark, you cannot think of having this.

Lollipop don't make games run slower. They played roughly the same after I updated my Nexus 4 and G2 to Lollipop months ago, and the Nexus 9 didn't display any lag even after I reduced the GPU speed by 50%.
There's likely something problematic with the drivers for the PowerVR, or a general lack of optimization for this Intel chipset. Games that are smooth on an iPhone 5S are sluggish on this phone.

When you see this video "www".youtube.com/watch?v=xzcxFMbjlME (Remowe the two "" for the link) Asphalt8 has been way slower on Lollipop than kitkat event if the 3Dmark score is two times lower than the 551ML.
We can ask ourselves if the chipset of 550ML has not a leak of performance instead of the 551.
I have created a ticket also for that issue, we'll see what asus answer me.

I don't know but it seems many many people complaining are 550ML users... I hardly saw 551ML users complaining (except for battery drain and network drops)
I also don't believe that it is a RAM issue. I always use the game booster for RAM and start playing with about 1.2GB of RAM free.
I have checked the Google Play feedback on the game that gives me problems (Parking Mania) and nobody complains of the lag. I can't believe that everyone reviewing this game is using a phone with 4GB RAM.
Whatever the issue is, it certainly does not affect all games, so I am tending to think that we should not be blaming Asus for this one.
Tried and tested nova 3..1.5gb file....no lag what so ever...only one I notice my phone got to 45 c when playing this...nah....i go back to fifa 15 ..maybe you got so many files on you phone...i have a 800 ram free when playing nova 3....550ml user here..ww

A video is better than a long explination.
Here is a video taken where i can show some latency and frames drop, sorry for the very bad picture quality
link "www66.zippyshare.com/v/ym89Djkd/file.html"
i experiancing a strange problem
none of the gameloft games are not working in my device. and fifa15 too.
All of the Gameloft games I have tried are working fine. Usually no lag, but frame rate can drop if there is a lot going on.
Sent from my ASUS_Z00AD using XDA Free mobile app
Has frame rate improved since last update? Someone on another thread noticed an improvement on a couple of his games.

I and someone else noticed improvements in a few games so I think the GPU drivers were updated
But I've also noticed that the game I had seen improvement in and only game I had trouble with, The Witcher Battle Arena, that it now spikes CPU usage (usage rises to mid to high 90s) and locks the frequency to the highest step. Not sure if the game is poorly optimized for x86 and/or NDK issues and/or lingering driver issues or what. After a while the phone overheats and throttles.
I have noticed a performance improvement with this procedure :
Go into Settings then Developer Options and check Disable HW Overlays,

[Q] lags and stutters while gaming in zenfone 2 ze551 4gb

i recently bought Asus zenfone 2 ze551ml 4gb variant but i was very disappointing with its performance. i got the phone and it showed me system update 2.19.40 so i updated it and then installed a few games like asphalt 8, nova, mc5, etc. which i though this device would be able to handle pretty well. but to my surprise the these games didn't performed smooth...there weren't any lags but stutters in almost all the games. now i had seen many videos of gaming performance before buying this phone and everywhere it performed up to the mark. now i heard some where that the latest update is causing this. is this true?
is there a solution to this problem?

The version you are referring to is not the latest update... Asus provided some graphic optimization in some update (i cant recall which update it was) So update your phone to the latest firmware (2.19.40.22) and then check... I am on latest firmware and i have mc4, mc5, nova and they all play fine...smooth no lags no stutters or glitches

thank you for the reply sir. yes, i checked, i am on the same firmware as you. the main issue is with asphalt 8. nova and mc5 are still ok, even riptide gp 2 has the same unsmooth game play...there is no lag but it looks like there are heavy frame drops. can you check it with asphalt 8. i am getting an fps of 28 (checked it with gamebench).
Yes, I played mc5 and asphalt 8 and also experienced micro stutter on the 551ml with the newest firmware. Gameplays looked alot smoother on youtube videos.
I tried moving the games to internal memory, but same problem.

Maybe I got accustomed to 60 fps
But really, can this be a hardware problem?
Exactly, even i am worried if its an hardware issue. Though i got a score of 47k on antutu so i doubt it is. Games like overkill 3 laG like hell. I am worried. Should i get my lhone replaced or what? Can anyone test on gamebench for fps of asphalt 8 who has it running smooth plz. Thank you.

I just downloaded reptide gp 2 and it's running smooth for now. I'll test the fps using gamebench in a bit.
Can't get gamebench to work. Sorry. :/
No problem. Thanks a lot for the reply though. Do let me know if it works.

I got the zf2 about a week ago, so I'm unable to compare it to the performance before the latest updates.

Thanks for the reply, but those are steps I took before playing each game, and i always clear my cache after each firmware update. So I do not believe any of those steps offered a viable solution.
Edit-- These are the results of Asphalt 8. Phone was off charger, and in performance mode. Cache was also cleared in recovery. Also, in the xda review of the zf2, he said he got 45 fps.

Thanks manman but I got it to work, I had multiple devices connected to adb.
Reptide gp 2 has huge fps drops.(20-30 fps).
I tried overkill 3, it was unplayable.
Can someone please check the fps on their device ? It would really help.
I do not believe it is a hardware problem, because i'm getting a decent score on antutu.

I couldn't check the fps on those games but rp2 had stutters whereas overkill 3 was unplayable. Dissapointed with this phone.

Lag?

never got any lag except youtube but thats probably cause of their app issue since youtube lags in almost of my phones now..
games running smooth for me.. btw 4gb ram version P.S.
I was JUST about to create a post about this lag. Something is definitely not right to have lag delays for so long. I was going to say it's probably the ram in our 3gb model but I have two work phones running on 2gb ram and never got lag this bad.
When it just freezes with lag, I check the ram and there is still 1.5gb free so it's not a ram issue, must be a software issue. A few times a day it'll take an app a full 60-90 seconds to launch and everything will be at a snails pace for the next 5 minutes

Agreed, if I don't see any suggestions in one of the forums I may try the factory reset trick to see if that helps. Hopefully it's not a defective processor...

BND - L24 running B130 software.. Non-Rooted... ZERO issues no matter what I throw at it..
Few people reporting issues of lag from other regions.. Looks like an update will solve it soon..
No lag here...
Destroys everything I throw at it. No lag at all, sometimes apps freezes, but that's bc the app is badly developed and programmed, phone is awesome
I see some lag from time to time, most notably on the camera app (I have a BND-L24). I suspect it may be related to the SD card and/or the amount of pictures I have on there. I have an off-brand 64GB card in there now but I have a Samsung Class 10 U3 on order that should be here Friday, so I will put that in and see if it helps.

Nova 3 is a pretty intensive game, and it runs flawlessly
US version with 3bg RAM.
Mine will lag occasionally, especially if I've recently used facebook and chrome. After that if I try to use the keyboard for anything it freezes quite often, and won't get better unless I wait a minute or kill apps.
I found that limited background processes in developer options gets rid of most of the lag, but doesn't help the camera much. The camera software just seems to be way too much for this phone to handle... not to mention the camera UI is laughably bad.
