Optimization that works for people, What has made your experience good? - Note 7 Questions & Answers

Ok we are about a week in and some of us have had good success and some bad with our phones.
So for those who have had good success by making changes, what has made your experience better??
For me here are a few things I have done.
I use Nova launcher, package disabler (EZ DISABLER), google keyboard and SD maid to keep it clean for when it gets dirty. So far its been good. Also use metal for Facebook and twitter.
I put animations from 1 to .5 and turned on force 2D GPU. Not too sure about the last one, but trying it.

AMOLED black theme all around, google keyboard, animations to .5x, package disabler pro to disable tons of crap, action launcher 3 (usually a Nova prime guy, but change of pace), Swipe app instead of Facebook & Messenger (easiest and biggest difference on any phone).

Should we get a list going of packages disabled? I'll link my export below from Package Disabler Premium. Please note that I do not use Android Pay, VR or Gear. So, if you use those don't copy mine exactly as I have those disabled along with about 40 other packages. I know a lot more can be disabled, but I'm a little gun shy so I don't "break" anything important as far as functionality. I would be curious to see others' exports.
Other than that, I moved to .5 animations. I am also pretty religious to not let apps "stay awake" that I use semi-regularly by putting them to sleep through the built in battery maintenance tool.
Syncing emails every 4 hours. I let my other accounts sync as normal regarding photos, documents and contacts (Samsung, Gmail and OneDrive).
I also leave bluetooth off unless I need it (mostly wireless headphones for an hour per day). Same for NFC and I leave the always on feature off (but noticed with it on or off yields little to no difference regarding battery life).
Everything is smooth as butter for me and I am getting great screen off time of less than 1% per hour battery drain. On schedule for about 5 hours of on screen time today.

Same really, animations at .5, black theme, Large display scale, extra small font.
On thing i noticed with Nova Launch and animation scaling, make sure you go into Nova and change its own scaling to "default" if you change the scaling in developer options. On mine, Nova was set to "fast" which was actually slower and over riding the .5 scaling I had set.

Good list, I have many of the same but you have more. I'll have to really compare when i get home. Taking about the always on display, last night it was using about 152 mb of RAM seems high. I still left it on but it's on a time schedule. So far battery has been decent. But last night my phone was charged to 100% and after 7 hrs of sleeping it was at 85%. So also not sure why it used that much. But still tinkering.

Good deal, thanks. Looks like I was down to 0.5% per hour loss over night. Went down 3% in 6 hours.

I did a factory reset last night and did bunch of tweaks to the notification settings. It gets a better result. Two nights ago with only 4 hours of sleep it went from 100 to 94. Last night with 6 hours of sleep it only went down by 4%. Now I have not used the EZDisabler to disable bloats, don't know if I will. Although I don't have AO on but I do have Night Clock on.

Mine has been good, but lost 15% over 7 hrs last night while asleep. Been messing with It a lot and may have messed something up. I gotta remember what I changed yesterday. Lol. Always like that with a new phone. Once I figure out what I like may just reset to what I like and be good with it

After disabling a lot of ****, flight mode and wifi off and still lose 3-4% every 6-8 hours... bloody hell

I would be ok with 3 or 4% in 6 to 8 hrs if phone asleep. Now 3 or 4 % every hr when not in use is no bueno!

Have done nothing yet and after 8 hours (at night) im down 3-4%. My last 2 phones have been like that too so im assuming its normal. Sometimes disabling features (bloat) can actually increase your battery usage.

Keeps getting better for me. Lost 2% while asleep for 6.5 hours. All settings the same and same disabled bloat as mentioned in early post.

what theme is that? from the Samsung app store? TIA

APEX Launcher Pro/SD Maid Pro/Package Disabler Pro+,S-Note side-loaded & a black theme .
My set-up stays fairly constant from one phone to the next.
I don't go into it w/battery savings in mind,I disable the junk/Cheetah Mobile s***ware/etc..... & forget about it.
I'm good w/battery life so far, but, just for the heck of it,I did look at the stats yesterday:
While I had plenty of juice left after 14 hrs,I did notice my biggest user was the Google app @ 28%,which was odd considering I use my phone sparingly during a typical workday & have little to no usage for OK GOOGLE & the like. So,my only tweaks to battery so far are optimizing the Google app & disabling (partially) the Device Maintenance app (w/Package Disabler Pro+).

My pleasure. I haven't been this excited about a phone in a long time, basically since the first Note. I'm looking forward to working with the community and learning more!

I'm following the note 7 like a hawk as well. Had a note 4 and went to the 6p and I'm ready to come back to Samsung. Passed on my Note 4 to a relative and running TEKHD rom its perfect. I'm still shocked how good that device is. Everyday I check all the Note 7 forums including the carrier versions for all updated news to make sure I know of all the issues with the device as well as current of developments. I'm thinking about picking up the device towards Black Friday but I'll probably give in before then.

Hi guys!
I'm from the S6 & maybe looking forward to getting the Note 7 if it ever comes to France/Europe... (The Note 5 didn't somehow)
I just want to share with you my few things I did to improve my perf & autonomy.
1) Like you, changed the animations speed, but from 1 to 0.25
2) Cutsom ROM (Root included) + Kernel to get the biggest of the job I can't do myself done (of course, this point is vast & will vary according to what choices you make)
3) Installed Greenify, Power nap (through Xposed that came with the ROM), Amplify, & Purify (Root required for better features).
- Notice that Purify & Greenifyalmost make the same task, but in the free versions, I think Purify is + powerful & gets more features: you get total power over the notifications, you can archive them into a single notif folder, or hide them, you can purify apps running, the same way Greenify does, for each app you want, & there is a Bloatware removal tool included, which I used to delete permanently many useless apps.
- Power nap & Amplify make a huge job to reduce dramaticaly the impact of services & wakelocks on the battery, I think this is what makes your battery still going down while the phone should sleep...
4) Black wallpaper too
5) There is another app which seems to be nice & wide on the settings, named L Speed (PlayStore), don't really know what difference it makes, I didn't test it separatly...
6) If you want better control over the permissions of every apps, notably the boot & privacy settings, there is AppOpsXposed in Xposed or PMP (Protect My Privacy) from the Carnegie Insitute (PlyStore)
7) A tasker app, like Automate , AutomateIt , Macrodroid or Tasker (not free), that I use mainly to put the plane mode & low brightness of screen at night, & skip in the morning, then you can set some amazing tasks with these, I highly recommand it if you want your device to proudly be called a Smart²-phone
That's pretty much it, I'm new on the XDA forum, even if I've read it for a long time without posting anything, here is my 1st intervention! Hope it helped,
Cheers :highfive:

I hear ya, once I heard the rumors about a possible 128gb/6gb Note 7 being released in China I convinced myself I would wait and see if it would be possible to import it (if would work on our networks here etc). But, I only made it till 5 days before launch day in US lol. Good luck to ya!

I seen an article today somewhere like Android Authority about there will be no Note 7 with 128GB and 6GB RAM for China. I've got 9 days to wait before my Note 7 arrives but I don't think an extra 2GB RAM is anything to wait for... A new CPU then yes sure but not for just two extra gigs of RAM that will probably do nothing anyway.

Why you don’t need a task killer app with Android.
Posted Posted by Cody Banks on 25th May 2010 Comments 5 comments
A lot of people have asked us what the best app is for killing tasks? Well, the answer is none of them. Sure there are some nice apps out there for killing tasks, but the fact is you just don’t need one with Android. In fact, most developers
won’t even look at your logcat file if they see you running a task killer app on your Android-based phone.
To clear things up about this, Google’s Android developers blog has finally put this debate to rest about why a task killer is unnecessary, as well as why there are certain services that run in the background all the time, I’m sure at one time or another you’ve seen them and asked yourself “Why do those services keep starting after I kill them?”. Below you can read about when applications stop.......

I've found no matter how many times it's said, someone will have an anecdote about how their phone became amazingly fast or they doubled battery life using one of these apps. People who want to use them will continue to do so. Don't trouble yourself.
It's nice to have one to kill the odd app that is messing up, but other than that I don't use one.

the reason people say this is because it's actually true.
that's just the truth, maybe you should try using one and notice the difference.
I uninstalled mine for the first time yesterday to test the theory and today, my battery lasted a grand total of 4.5 hours. that's a whole 3 hours less than before.
and at the end of the day, when it's laggy and then use the TK, it really does clear things up.
still wish there was a way to make the battery last longer, it really does suck

I'd say if you're only getting between 4.5 and 7.5 hours battery life, I'd say you've probably got a rogue app installed anyway.

I agree, taskkillers aren't battery savers they are drainers...
Have had my desire for a couple of days now (comming from a htc hero) and since I removed my taskmanager my desire has juice for about 1,5 days.
With taskpanel I hardly reached 24 hours... And I haven't noticed the device becoming slower...
I don't miss it and if I don't get any strange apps I won't ever install a taskmanager again...
well there are some apps which don't work properly.
Take the xda android app as example. it would sometimes just freeze, and there was no way to restart the app, no option for force close was provided by Android OS either.
In this case Android isn't doing anything, so you have to kill the process manually using
1. the default android feature
2. using a task killer.
I like the quick access to the advanced task killer over the notification area, therefore i use it.
People can tell me whole day long how ingenius Android is, and that it will do everything automatically. But i made very different experiences with some 3rd party apps, which needed some killing every now and then. The xda app is only ONE example of many.

The thing is I HAVE used them. Advanced Task Killer was the first app I installed on receiving my Desire...the phone became glitchy and buggy and laggy and it was horrible. I uninstalled ATK and all that stopped. It now NEVER slows down, and I'm getting well over 8hrs of use a day.
I suspect you have a buggy app, and THAT is what you need to find.
We need to stop giving bad app developers a feww ride by ignoring their bad code and just killing the process. Uninstall their app, give it a bad review and insist on using a rival app.

You can force close an app from Android. Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Locate the app > open it and force stop.
Create a shortcut to manage applications short cut on your home screen if you like, then you'll only need to do this:
Open Manage Applictions short cut > Locate the app > open it and force stop. - This is just as simple as using a task manager shortcut.

actually using the notification drawer is more comfortable for me. But this is just personal preference.
Yes-They might be useful to kill the occasional rogue app. but apart from that they are pretty pointless. Android does a good job of killing tasks itself.
Despite all the evidence to the contrary people many will continue to use them and use them indiscriminately. Still if they want generally poorer performance and reduced battery life surely that is their choice.

How does that work. the notification draw is pretty much blank most of the time save for new message/downloads etc ?
has anyone actually tried to load up so many apps, so there's almost no memory left, so android kills other apps by himself? It's all excellent in theory, but never witnessed it in real life.
guys I had advanced task manager installed in my phone and my phone was laggy, and my battery was always down to 40-50% at the end of the day, but yesterday on someone's advice I removed ATM, and instantly i noticed the difference, there was no lag in the menus and everything was smooth, and today my battery was an astonishing 85 % remaining when i came back home, and I intentionaly used my phone more than usual. so at least one thing is sure that I will not be using any task manager.

with advanced task manager you can see a small icon at the notification area (at all times). When pulling down the drawer you'll see an entry which says "advanced task manager".
just touch it and a list with current running apps will show up.

there are way too many variables in this equation, as to just claim that ATM is responsible for hogging 30-40% battery power per day.
Of course it will have some kind of impact, just like other apps too. But i don't think that it will have a much bigger impact.
no, I dont think there are any variables involved in my case except ATM, I never use internet on mine phone during the day coz i always have internet access on my laptop, instead today I used wifi intentionaly just for testing battery and played asphalt which I normaly dont play during the work hours,
Here's a video from the Developer site that explains very well how Android manages Apps:
http://developer.android.com/videos/index.html#v=fL6gSd4ugSI
And if I really need to kill something (very rare!) then I use Task Tray Beta:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.stonedonkey.tasktray or find it in the Market.
This app is also great for seeing what 's actually running and what 's not anymore. And for switching to some App that you know is running, but in the default Android task switcher you can see only 6 apps.... and this will show all.
I tried out a few task killer but all they did was stop my alarm going off in the morning! I'm sure that's something I could have changed though.
I find the best way to keep my desire running nice and quick is to give it a reboot every morning on my way to work. Only takes a couple of minutes....give it a try...

I think the reason why the battery drains so fast is the radio!

My home is out of power last night, and I still need the phone to wake me up in the morning. so I turned my phone into flight mode, and it just consumed 2% for 8 hours. For that reason, I personally think the battery performance could be improved significantly in the future when the radio's problem is solved.

Wow, man, your battery drain is really bad. I loose 3% in 8 hours with radio on. Theoretically, your drain on flight mode should be like 1% in 30 hours, if the phone goes properly to sleep

My phone would consume a lot of power, I never tested it, but definitely over10% with doing nothing in one night. Sorry to bother you guys:banghead:

I had a 4.5 day life in ARHD 9.7(ics) with wifi off, radio on.
Now with the same usage on ARHD 16(JB) the maximum im getting is 20+/-2 hours
On the bright side, the phone rarely goes above 35 deg (battery 30) on browsing/moderate usage, as compared to 45/35 in ICS
You should patent that idea. You're one successful man now. Enjoy.
You Live To Die.
Are you sure nobody else touches your phone while you sleep?

Some replies here were meaningless and shouldn't have replied in the first place, so trash them my friend.
It is nice that we have people here, whom are trying to contribute to the community. It doesn't matter whether your contribution is significant or not, at least you have done your part.
Back to the topic, your battery shouldn't drop this fast, my best guess is that there is an app that mess up with your phone's "deep sleeping", so in this way, you had many wake ups and therefore bad battery. Find that app, uninstall it and enjoy your phone with a better battery consumption.

Give this a try: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rootuninstaller.bstats (I didn't try it, but it suppose to show you which app is draining your battery ,and it's the easy way).
The old way is using TaskManager, seeing which service is running and analyzing logcat. After that, you just uninstall they faulty app and enjoying your phone as you should.
Here are two quotes of mine (You don't need to follow them, but just so you get the idea):

First thing first,
Uninstall GSAM,Better Battery Stats, and any other battery stats you might have installed. Also, the app/widget that shows the battery percentage uninstall it as well.
This mean we are now going to depend on, the build in battery stats for reading the battery percentage & depending on it here.
Now, uninstall Juice Defender and Ebay app. You can always reinstall them if you didn't get any improvement. This part is an optional, but I'll recommend you to consider it as we are trying to troubleshooting the faulty app.
Wait until your bedtime, or when you are not going to use your phone.
-Switch off your phone.
-Plug it to the wall charger.
When you wake up, and your phone suppose to have fully charged (indicated by the green LED).
-Turn your phone on (with charger still plugged in)
When your phone is fully booted and turned on
-Replug your wall charger and wait till it's fully charged.
After you do these, use your phone normally like you always do.
When you your battery gets down till (5% or less), I want you to do the following (I Prefer if it in the following orders):
Take a "logcat" of your phone and upload it here.
Start Task Manger (already comes with Sense). Take screenshot of whatever you see there, (the whole list of apps, if there is an app down, scroll down and take a screenshot of it as well).
Go to Settings -> Apps -> Running. Take screenshot of whatever you see there, (the whole list of apps, if there is an app down, scroll down and take a screenshot of it as well).
Provide a full battery stats screenshots (every single thing you find there, take a screenshot of it).
Tell me, what your normal battery stats compared to recent ones.
Finally,
I remind you that I don't guarantee anything to you, also we aren't trying to apply any battery saving techniques here. Only, troubleshooting the faulty app that you think it is causing your deep sleeping issue. So, this mean, we are not going to mess with your sync or anything like this.
Beside that, you could always go with the easy way, and format/reset your phone and start all over.
Good luck.

That guy didn't have his wifi/internet on all the time. Also, he is using his phone more efficiently. Which I mean that he doesn't turn on, things he doesn't need or use.
I can easily achieve 4+ hours screen time ,and so you could too.
Here are couple of guide lines you can follow:
1- Switch to 2g only.
2- Turn off NFC.
3- Don't use auto-brightness and keep your brightness low (I'v set a widget with following settings: 0,auto,20).
4- Disable all application you don't need (Facebook, Twitter, EA Games app,...)
5- Reduce sync interval (or better you do it manually).
6- In temperature widget remove all the cities you don't need or care about (one is more than enough!).
7- Repeat step 6 for clock as well.
8- Don't use applications that consume too much CPU power.
-a: Replace your browser and use Opera mini for reading.
-b: As rule of thump if your phone gets hot/warm in certain app then you are wasting your battery on that app.
9-Turn off anything that vibrate: Touching capacitive keys, keyboard,etc...
10- repeat step 9 on sound.
11- Use your wifi only when you need it.
12- Disable your GPS, unless you are using it.
13- Turn of the setting which flips your phone screen (uses accelerometer).
These are currently what I remember that I applied on my phone.
I can tell you my last run, was 3 hours and approximately 15 minutes of screen time while having my phone running for 17 hours. Most of battery wasted on an online game called "Indestructible" (1hour and 20 mins).
I hope you get similar results as well.
Good Luck

The reviews on play store are quite mixed, some claim doubling the battery. Others say worsen.

Tried it wasn't impressed. I prefer green power to it.

what this is app does is reduce bakground and hence will help you if you experience unexplained standby drains, once it's done learning your most used apps, it will control background activity sync
so yes you will notice great improvements if you you have lots of accounts draining your standby times
I currently am on day 6 using the app (actual use, its not including the 2 days of hiding in background watching me). Haven't really noticed a huge difference but I probably get another hour or so of battery life.
I think the trial was pretty lame. After it finally got the thing to start, I like how you can block apps from refreshing in the background. The list is not very big however and I am curious as to what other apps do the same thing but have more options.
All in all, I'd give it a thumb up as it is not hurting my phone's performance and a little battery savings

I have used this snapdragon app, their is a thread about it somewhere, i removed it as it was giving me thousands wakelocks with the app, i used wakelock detector to see them.
John.
It just blocks apps from syncing if you use your phone auto sync on all the time so it's not like greenify which completely stops background process of a specific app until you open it. If you don't keep auto sync on then it's a waste of time and makes battery even worse.
It's a placebo, don't use it.

No, it is not a placebo. Yes, it does block apps from syncing in the background. So what? You guys are missing the point.
They are not claiming to possess some magical powers that will double your phone's battery life. The main difference from this app and similar others in the market, is their learning algorithm. It learns from "watching" you use your phone for a couple of days and then controls what is going on in the background to help you save battery without you doing much on your end. It's actually a pretty genius idea. I'm trying it out for the first-time (thanks OP for mentioning this app) and will post back with my results later this week. I'm not expecting wonders, but maybe I'll learn a thing or two about my daily use that I might be able to incorporate into my setups.
I would really appreciate you get back to use with your results, i pulled the plug after a couple of hours because of the high number of wakelocks.
John.

No problem. Honestly, people freak out too much about wakelocks. You can have 50 simple events waking your device that will consume 10% of a single wakelock event from another app. Google's new play services that have been announced at I/O are wakelock-fiends, but surprisingly, their effect on battery life is very minimal.
Basically, it's about quality and not quantity of the wakelock that matters.

I was wondering if itll affect instant messaging app, like whatsapp.
Will I still receive the messages instantly or battery guru will refresh my whatsapp periodically based on my usage?

installed it. doesn't work. after a few weeks, installed it again, still doesn't work. it seems to just kill running apps. not great if you use whatsapp or viber, you won't be receiving any messages with the battery guru on.
I'm using this but I don't feel that the battery is very good anyway. Is this app working just like greenify?

[GUIDE][CM] Get The Most Out of Your Battery

This is my all inclusive guide on how to get the most out of your battery without sacrificing functionality. Specially tailored for the i747.
WARNING: I ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANYTHING YOU DO TO YOUR PHONE. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK.
!!!NANDROID BACKUP!!!
This guide assumes that you're running Cyanogenmod 11 or a custom ROM based on it. It is organized from most practical and user friendly, to more technical and intensive.
The first manner of business is to upload to the latest bootloader/modem, which can be found here: http://invisiblek.org/d2firmware.html
This provides the most stability/support for the latest CM Nightlies.
Simply download the .zip and flash it in your recovery of choice.
Go into "Settings" > "Apps" and delete any apps you don't use anymore.
Go into all apps you DO use, and make sure "Location" and "Notification" settings are either OFF or on according to if you need them or not.
Disable "syncing" in weather apps, news apps, and any other apps that have background syncing enabled.
Disable "WiFi" when not in use.
Disable "Data" when not in use.
Disable "Location" when not in use. (THIS INCLUDES LOCATION REPORTING.)
Disable "Bluetooth" when not in use.
Disable "NFC" when not in use.
Disable "Automatic Backlight"
Manually set brightness to lowest setting.
Set Screen Timeout to 1 minute or less.
Disable "Sync" when not necessary.
Disable "Auto Rotation" when not necessary.
Disable all haptic/sound feedback under "Sound."
Go into "WiFi" settings, press your menu key, and press "Advanced." Be sure that "Scanning always available" is unchecked.
CHARGE YOUR PHONE WHENEVER POSSIBLE.
Download "Greenify" from the Play Store, open it up, and start hibernating every app you don't depend on. DO NOT HIBERNATE MESSAGING APPS.
I personally hibernated every non-system app I had excluding "Google Keyboard."
You have a special feature called "App Ops under your "Privacy" settings.
Press "Privacy Guard." You'll be presented with a list of apps. These apps can be "secured" with a click. Simply press and app you don't want accessing your location settings, and the little grey lock to the right of the app will become white. This will disable the app from using location services.
Third, open up your apps list under Settings > Apps > "All" tab. Cyanogenmod has many apps that the typical user doesn't want/need, and that take up precious RAM and CPU cycles.
You can disable system apps by clicking on them, and then "Disable."
Apps that can be safely disabled include:
Android Keyboard – REPLACE WITH GOOGLE KEYBOARD
Android Live Wallpapers
Basic Daydreams
Black Hole
Browser – REPLACE WITH CHROME BETA
Bubbles
CM Updater
CM Wallpapers
com.android.wallpaper.holospiral
Downloads
Email – Up to you.
Exchange Services – Safe to disable only if you disable Email
Face Unlock
Gallery – REPLACE WITH QUICKPIC
Google Backup Transport – ONLY IF YOU DON'T USE GOOGLE BACKUP
Google One Time Init
Google Partner Setup
Google Text-to-speech Engine – AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION
Magic Smoke Wallpapers
Market Feedback Agent – DISABLES... MARKET FEEDBACK...
Movie Studio
Music Visualization Wallpapers
Phase Beam
Photo Screensavers
Pico TTS - AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION
Setup Wizard
Tags - ???
Terminal Emulator
Themes provider – STUCK W/ DEFAULT THEME
Voice Dialer
I have disabled all of these apps and had no ill consequence. I haven't gone as far as uninstalling them, but you may if you wish.
Download KT's latest kernel from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756776
Flash in recovery. Be sure to wipe Cache and Dalvik before and after!
WHAT YOU DECIDE TO DO WITH THIS KERNEL IS UP TO YOU. YMMV.
Open KTweaker app.
Set governor to "pegasusq" - This is a more conservative governor, and also allows hotplugging.
Undervolt CPU by 75 mV across the board. - YMMV.
Undervolt GPU by 50 mV across the board. - YMMV.
Set GPU Governor to "simple."
Set "Set options on boot" to set with a 20 second delay. (In case something goes awry.)
Reboot.
ETC. TIPS:
- Get any widgets you don't use off your Launcher. They eat battery too.
- Don't use custom launchers with riced out animations. This tears up your GPU, and your battery life will suffer as a result.
- Turn off "Mock Location" in Developer Options.
- DO NOT USE TASK KILLERS!!!
- Disable "Automatic home clock" in the stock "Clock" app.
- Use ART!
- Turn off roaming!
I'm sure I'm forgetting something. I'll update this if I remember anything. Let me know if this has helped you at all. Feel free to add any tips as you see fit.
Give me a thanks if I've helped you out!
Pretty good if I say so myself.
Never disabled LTE.

I kid, this is a pretty neat start for people experiencing battery issues. I generally recommend also getting a new battery - the Ankers 2200mAh one is legit.

Yeeeah. I wrote the title before I got started haha. They're all optional, of course. Not many people will miss having a random app in their RAM (Greenify solution.) Or disabling location reporting (I hate location reporting.) Or even undervolting, or getting rid of random CRapps.
I did have that Anker battery, but it bloated on me. It was nice while it lasted, though. (About 3 months.)

Mine has lasted 6 months so far, strange. I replaced the stock battery after it stopped holding a charge within the first 8 months of ownership.
Also, on the topic of Greenify, when I used to have it, I found it was draining almost as much battery as the things it was hibernating, since it spent every waking moment shutting the other things off. Have you found that to be the case at all?

My case may have been user error. It isn't rated to take as quick a charge as the stock battery. I was using a 1A 5V power box. I believe it called for a .7A 5V current.
I have; in the case of my keyboard, and Facebook, as well as Google Play services back when I tried out making it a user app. I got rid of the Facebook app and use the mobile site. It works just as well.

I don't have FBApp notifications on, ever. I used it mostly for the interface and the seamless photo upload via Wi-Fi.
But since I started using Quantum, the battery has been significantly better. If the Facebook app becomes stupid enough with the battery, however, might just follow your lead there.

The problem isn't the notifications, it's the services that the app has that run, even if you have notifications, sync, and background services turned off. I hated it.
I used to use Quantum, back when CM 11 didn't have official nightlies. Great ROM and Dev; not bleeding edge enough for me, though.

It shouldn't be a massive gain, but definitely more fluid and a bit more quick, which let's you get stuff done faster, and the faster you get stuff done, the less time you use the screen, and that takes load off the battery.

Tell me when you're going to use GPS, Bluetooth, and NFC at the same time.
Are you getting directions to McDonalds while you talk to your business client on your Bluetooth headset and paying for your burger with your phone? I didn't think so.
And Sync? Do it manually. What functionality is being lost that can't be toggled in quick settings in half a second? Are you removing any apks, or shutting down any services that wouldn't benefit you again in a couple of clicks?
You're not sacrificing functionality, you're using common sense. Try it sometime.

I use GPS frequently because I use Google Now for commuting, sports, among other interesting tidbits that come up. I also have a Pebble smartwatch that uses Bluetooth. I have no idea why you bother toggling NFC since its only on when the tag triggers it.
And sync is a critical part of my phone as I work in IT and expect hangouts messages or emails at all times of the day. Both my work, friends, and school use technologies that rely on sync, and some of them are time sensitive.
If you don't want to use the features of a smartphone, use common sense and don't buy one. Sorry I don't find your "turn literally every smartphone feature off" guide useful.
Tell me, what exactly do you use your smartphone for?

At the moment, I'm using it to reply to you, and that doesn't require many things to be toggled on at all. I use it to find directions when I need it (I'll turn location on when I need it), to text, call, and do some web surfing and email.
You seemed to have failed to read the rest of the OP, as well. Undervolting? Destroying wakelocks? Custom kernels? ART?
Not everyone is as tied to their phone as you are. This is meant for people like me, who seemed to struggle to make a full day's charge and couldn't seem to for some reason.

Galaxy S10+ Battery Optimisation guide

After my truth revealing updates and posts are deleted by the team with the excuse of them being "offensive" when there's clearly no offence, I decided you don't deserve any of this, your right to generate traffic using my content is forfeit.
The guide will not be updated:
I'm not going to update this guide or answer any question anymore.
Mod Edit: Content in violation of Forum Rules (disrespectful, insulting, rude) with no content related to this guide, removed
Corv0 said:
Many users have asked more details on how I achieved my battery life results, this guide will cover some basic settings and behaviors that are proven or supposed to reduce energy consumption, no root involved.
Power results to expect:
7-9h SoT: Mainly 4G, mid to max brightness, navigation applications and outdoors utilities.
9-11h SoT: Your average work day, 50% max brightness and 4G, 50% half brightness or less on WiFi, mainly video playing, communication and web browsing applications.
11-14h SoT: Same as above but with lowered screen brightness and no 4G.
Gaming applications automatically forfeit any battery report due to too many variables. I can’t include them, but your gaming time will certainly last longer if you follow everything.
According to what has been seen on forums, Snapdragon versions seem to perform considerably worse than Exynos ones regarding power consumption and they should be expected to not last as much, I’m still waiting to see a side by side battery test between the two, please mention your model when posting screenshots.
Initial Setup
Just a few options here:
Avoid restoring backups from older/previous devices, Google’s app data restoring system has been known to permanently influence Play Services’ drain.
Smart Switch is also bugged, do not use it, everyone saw better results by skipping it.
Set up as new and import only what you need.
Theme
Night Theme
Black/Night themes will reduce power consumption without doubt while helping your AMOLED maintain quality for the future, your Quickpanel has a simple shortcut to enable Night mode system-wide and on supported Samsung applications, keep it on all the time if possible.
Quickpanel
Your Quickpanel is not actually black in Night mode (85% black), it also forces your device to drop frames every time it is summoned by blurring the background, a very expensive and unnecessary effect.
Download Good Lock from the Galaxy store
Open QuickStar, set BG Color to black (make sure to run the bar to the darkest end) and disable Blur effect.
Launcher
As smooth and elegant as OneUI Home can look, it is stupidly heavy on the GPU, especially when launching the app drawer (unnecessary blur effect again), you can see Nova and OneUI Home compared:
Nova: No frames dropped
OneUI: Dropping frames EVERY single time the drawer is summoned, keeps dropping several scrolls later too.
You can make Nova look exactly the same as stock OneUI while having more features and better performance.
Background wallpapers
Darker wallpapers will help, but overall no big deal.
Animated wallpapers are expensive, you’re not going to stare at them, keep your wallpapers static and your animations in the gallery.
Connections
More connection settings: Disable Nearby device scanning, it’s mostly used to push ads whenever you’re around malls and shops.
Private DNS: Set your DNS to 1dot1dot1dot.cloudflare-dns.com, Cloudflare’s DNS will greatly improve your browsing speeds. This setting will also make it harder for Google to track you around the web, you will be blacklisted from Google Opinion Rewards by keeping it on, if you do not use Google Opinion Rewards then you have absolutely nothing to worry about.
Location services
Biometrics and Security, Location, disable everything under Improve accuracy, you don’t need this on this phone, nobody does, modern GPS systems are already accurate enough indoors to not justify having to scan for Wifi SSIDs or Bluetooth even when they're off.
Audio
Dolby Atmos requires some additional processing to handle the extra channels, if you do not hear any quality difference, keep it off.
Display
FHD+ (2280 x 1080) and WQHD+ (3040 x 1440) will look exactly the same to the untrained eye.
WQHD+ will to make your GPU worry about 23% more pixels, it will result in:
-30min off your average SoT day
-25% less autonomy in 3D games
I personally couldn’t go back to 1080p after upgrading all my displays. All my SoT screenshots have been taken on 1440p settings.
Apps
Most apps can be disabled from Settings, Apps, for apps that can’t be disabled that way, I recommend using this guide if you are unfamiliar with Adhell.
After disabling everything related to Facebook (use alternative apps if you really need it), do not keep duplicate active services that do the same kind of tasks;
If you are using Gboard as keyboard, disable Samsung Keyboard and Keyboard Neural beta
If you are not using OneUI Home then disable OneIU Home and Bixby Home.
You can safely disable Bixby itself if you prefer Google Assistant or no assistant at all.
You can apply the same principle to all the system apps you think aren’t useful to you, this will greatly reduce RAM usage and CPU wakelocks/alarms.
Battery Monitors
They’re not free to use, they drain energy by logging, everything does.
Unless you’re specifically checking for rogue apps attacking your battery, get rid of Accubattery or similar apps.
Keyboard
The two best keyboards I know are Gboard and Samsung keyboard, I do not like and cannot recommend any other.
Your keyboard should also be black at all times, that will result in at least 30% less power waste when typing, Gboard and Samsung Keyboard have their own themes for that.
Disable anything that makes your buttons clicking sounds or vibrations, it’s unnecessary, energy expensive and has been demonstrated to not improve your typing performance in any way.
Device Care
Good utility, but you shouldn’t run it manually and you shouldn’t kill apps with it, instead:
Enable Auto optimisation, set it some-when during your sleep.
Enable Auto restart, no Operating System is immune to bugs manifesting by staying on for too long, make your device restart itself at least every 3 days, when you sleep, and at least 10 minutes after auto optimisation is supposed to run.
Disable Security, Samsung is getting paid to put this McAfee crap in their firmware, in the EU it will be disabled by default since it is also a tracker not initially included in any other contract from Samsung.
If you accidentally enable it, go to Apps, look for Device Security, and wipe data, that will disable it.
Android does not need an Antivirus, you will not get malware unless you install modified apps with unofficial signatures (the Play Store still has malware too, stay away from shady apps), if you often try third party apps from the outside, make sure your apks are clean by uploading them to www.virustotal.com.
If you suspect your phone has been infected and you can’t identify the package, install a better Antivirus software such as Bitdefender or Avira, but I don’t recommend keeping them installed unless you are playing with high risk applications all the time.
Sleeping apps
Sleeping apps puts unused (not in your multitasker) apps to sleep, alike pressing X on a desktop Operating System.
Since most apps are badly optimised and using Android’s great RAM management to keep them alive only results in more wakelocks and drain, Samsung deserves a lot of respect for letting us do this without third party apps such as Brevent or Greenify.
You need to have Outlook installed on your phone to follow those annoying work e-mails, but you’re tired of notifications? Put it to sleep.
Put every app to sleep unless:
You need notifications from it
You use it often
Animations
Animations are expensive and make your system appear slower, reducing them will help by making your GPU draw less frames.
They can be sped up or disabled from Developer options, I recommend .5x for a good balance, to enable developer options:
Settings, about phone, software information, repeatedly tap on Build number until you magically become a developer.
Additional animations can be removed by enabling Reduce animations in Advanced features and Remove Animations in Accessibility, Visibility enhancements.
Ad-blocking
If you are using Adhell, that’s your best adblocker for Knox devices.
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/StevenBlack/hosts/master/hosts is the best collection of hosts, make sure your Adhell is whitelisting Analytics domains, you will notice these domains being spammed under “Domains blocked in past 24 hours”, Android will keep trying to reach those domains until they are whitelisted.
If you don’t want to use Adhell for whatever reason, Blokada is an excellent VPN-based adblocker that is way less invasive and does not seem to impact battery, use it with the recommended hosts and keep it on at all times, enable always on if you notice it getting killed often.

What is your opinion about "adaptive power saving" in performance options?
Should we turn it on?
Very helpful thank you

It should be on, I forgot to include it, thank you.
@dominicstg2 It might not work well in every region, in that case you can just skip it.
A great alternative to facebook is Face Slim
some great tips there thank you
so if you are struggling battery life wise should you go from QHD to FHD or does it make no real difference? and would you say having a blue wallpaper would drain a lot more than a black wallpaper?

FHD will definitely help but I find vision quality to be a higher priority over half an hour or more of battery per full cycle, it's totally up to you.
Blue wallpapers will in theory drain more than any other colour, this Dynamic AMOLED's blue subpixel is much larger than the others, but you won't feel the difference unless you stay still on your home page for long periods of time.
Also one small correction if I may. The correct DNS should be 1dot1dot1dot1.cloudflare-dns.com
(you forgot the last 1 at the end).
very helpful post. Thank you @Corv0

Wow indeed, I shouldn't have typed it from memory, thanks.
 @dominicstg2 try the correct one.
are the "dot" in the dns name to be letters or a . ? the latter didn't work for me.
By the way do you happen to know why the sync feature keeps re enabling itself ?

Sync will go back on every time you accept to sync in a Google app.

I'm not sure about the "sync in a google app" as even going thru parameters (without opening any app, above all a google one), it keeps re enabling itself. I suspect that the S10 os is buggy (this android version or samsung implementation ??) or embedded with hidden (unreachable) parameters.

I tried every single one of Google's apps and I couldn't replicate your bug, it stays off.
Did you restore through Smart switch or Google backup?
@Corv0 I had a bug where I could not download anything at all wiped Google play etc ended up doing a factory reset and don't you steps again and my battery is great thi k stand byvis fixed

Just one thing to add. That is really great and comprehensive guide. I actually disabled few apps and services. Be aware though, if you disable One UI launcher and are using navigation gestures, you will lose recents and back gesture.
What is your processor?

Biometrics and Security, Location, disable everything under Improve accuracy, you don’t need this on this phone, nobody does, modern GPS systems are already accurate enough indoors to not justify having to scan for Wifi SSIDs or Bluetooth even when they're off.

So, it's ok to let the Location "ON" and just disable everything under "improve accuracy"? The battery draining isn't significant for location "on" or "off"?
I remember in Oreo we had the opportunity to set it on battery saving.
