CAF-AOSP for the Huawei GX8
Based on the kernel and device tree of @surdu_petru. Without his work on this device this would not have happened. Thanks to @yuweng and @gopinaidu77 for their help in making the appropriate changes. Also thanks to @earlymon and ncrypt3d for helping me out along the way. Lastly, and certainly not least, thanks to @crpalmer and the rest of the kiwi team. Please let me know if I've left anyone out.

11/9/16 - Sorry for the **** build. New one should be good to go. *edit* [email protected] swear filter.
11/7/16 - Data while sleeping should be fixed. Thanks to @InkSlinger420 for pointing me in the right direction.
10/13/16 - Reverting to the former GPS blobs (see CM13 thread) breaks this rom.
10/08/16 - Some minor changes were pushed to the source. Included here.
9/28/16 - Changed model number to RIO-L03. Insignificant if you have the RIO-L01 variant. Probably the last update until either 1. CAF repo is updated or 2. Changes to fix bugs from the CM13 thread.
9/26/16 - Changed DPI to 440 (default is 480). If you don't like it, use a DPI app in the play store to change it back.
9/24/16 - added latest device changes courtesy of @surdu_petru. should see improved battery life and performance.
9/20/16 - removed NFC code. should see slightly better battery life. updated sources in OP.
9/13/16 - Initial Release

Yes. Already done and need to make a thread for it. Can find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gx8/how-to/various-roms-gx8-t3448696

Hey bro... I really enjoy this ROM... I have just a couple of questions:
Is there any way to fix the offline charging animation?
Also I get an error using open Gapps stock package, however the micro package works fine. Is there any way to use the stock package?
Thanks

1. Not that i've found yet. the same thing happens on AOSP-based roms on the honor 5x. Not sure what's up with that, but it does seem to charge when powered down.
2. Larger open gapps packages are broken on this rom. Not sure what the problem is. I recommend banks gapps for this rom. Also slim is very similar and works fine with the larger open gapps packages. has latest security updates as well.

Just a couple more questions:
I noticed my signal seems to be weaker though I haven't experienced any drops. Is that to be expected? I've noticed it particularly on 4G.
Also, will the latest security patches be included in the next update? I really like how clean this ROM is do I prefer it over other roms like CyanogenMod/Resurrection/Slim

There hasn't been much activity on the repo this ROM is built from. I'm not sure if it'll see anymore updates. I plan to include hardware fixes if/when they happen.

this ROM is awesome!
My RIO-L03 gets really slow with original huawei EMUI 3. I was expecting official EMUI 4 update but finally ran out of patience and decided to hack it. Flashed it with CM13 yesterday. All worked fine except cellular network. Then switched to this ROM and it worked beautifully. Fast and Smooth, no redundant useless packages. Can't be happier with it now. Thank you very much for creating this wonderful ROM!

the problem is that the GPS blobs this uses apparently don't like waze (i've been unable to replicate that issue, but i didn't use the app long). the GPS blobs that do work with waze cause two problems: 1. anything that uses GPS on the aosp rom causes an instant reboot. 2. they absolutely destroy battery life on the roms it does work on (see: CM13).

Not very good news

pretty sure the new build is garbage. working on a fix.
*edit* can confirm. wait for next build. sorry about that.

What is AOSP?
AOSP is Android as Google publish without other modifications. More or less AOSP is the Nexus devices stock rom without gapps.
Anyway to get a working system I added some changes from CodeAurora Forum and CyanogenMod. I added also 3 non-AOSP features for a better user experience (Advanced Reboot, "Clear All" button in Recents and an option to delete screenshots from the notification area) and I'm NOT going to add something other.

I didn't notice that. The phone freezes ? It appends when you wake up the phone ?
Cores from little cluster should be still online cause the phone can't run without at least one core online.
Also, did you flash/install something like scripts or kernel apps after flashing the ROM ?

This is kinda strange... Since Moto stock roms are pretty close to pure android...
So, is there a way to install Moto Voice on it? Because I miss too much the voice functionality...
Thanks!

Modified version of youtube gives error, there was a network connection, and it cant sign.me in,
Vpn bug is still there,
Then why you say no bugs found, bro, thats not fair,
There must be flashlight bug in, bcoz all cm 12.1 have this bug,

I have updated bugs list , because I forgot to do it.
I've found that you've got right with that flashlight bug, I didn't let it go to deep sleep as I see.
Sorry for any inconveniences.
Can't seem to find any deference between bugless v3 and renayed1 beta2 port...
Both ports battery consumption are looking same now...
Plz provide feedbacks after using this rom...if this port is better, then i'll use it too...
Meanwhile i'm gonna stick with renayed's port cse i don't see any extra feature or bug fix in this port.

Actually the fix you've suggested doesn't work, FM doesn't even start playing. But FM included in ROM is working, but it requires to start music first (at least for me), so I've included it in the bugs section.

Downloading now, I will test soon. Thanks for your work
UPDATE: I had to remove assert line in your updater-script, as my ro.build.product was Mate8 not next. After install i am currently stuck on the boot loader "Your device is booting now"
UPDATE 2: It worked!! Seemed like an issue on my end, i had to update to emui 4.1 before I was able to get the ROM to boot. Everything seems great so far. The only issue I faced was with the screen artifacting, and of course the issues you already listed. Great work :good:
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I come from EMUI 4.1, can I flash this ROM ?
Yes, but you will need to full wipe and follow the instructions in OP
I'm on EMUI 5.X or 4.0, can I flash this ROM ?
You should roll back to EMUI 4.1 then follow OP instructions
My phone is asking for a password on boot
The master key of the old EMUI is not known and that's why we had to wipe userdata (this remove encryption).
So, that means that your Data partition is not wiped, and you have to wipe it !
Flash the Cyanogenmod recovery (built with this ROM, located in the same folder) and do a full factory reset, this work everytime.
Once done, reboot and flash this custom TWRP that handle non-encrypted userdata. You will be able to open the SD Card, flash whatever you want and restore your backup.
NB : If you flash back the stock ROM, this last will re-encrypt /data and everything will work as always.
I've waited for 10 minutes and the Cyanogen boot animation is still here
Something is wrong and prevent CM to complete the boot sequence. This is an issue to report (see below).
This ROM does not contain GApps, what should I take ?
You can find GApps package on OpenGapps
You'll need to take for ARM64 and Android 6.0 and then choose the package you want.
Tested so far : Full, Stock, Nano
I've found an issue
First of all, thanks for helping @_skypol0 !
> Open a ticket here <
Check if there is not a similar issue before posting
Fill the issue (Your device infos (kernel version, last EMUI update version etc.) , What is the problem ?, how can we reproduce it ? etc. Please put as many information as possible)
Share a paste/haste/ghost/...bin of your logcat and dmesg

Wont use it but thanks for developing it (i dont like roms based on clean android). Might be a huge step in futrue development on Mate family.
Awesome!!
Man, you've convinced me not to sell my mate 8 anymore, It's great potential. I'm looking forward for the beta version of this!
Was going to sell my mate 8 also. But now will test once basic functions are ok.

Oh, yeah, thanks for pointing it out ! I have built CM-13 with the 4.1's kernel and so this last can't work with lower versions I edit the thread.
(for any other problem, open an issue on Github, I can miss infos here!)

Huawei hasn't released a stable build of nougat yet, its only been beta builds. Once Huawei releases nougat for M8, he can work on it.
And on the other side Cm14 is far from stable
Tapatalké depuis mon MEGA Mate 8 !
well i didnt know we had to have nougat in our mate 8 in order to have cm14, in that case cm13 should be ready since 6.0 have quite some time in our device! SO THERE'S HOPE!
Amazing I cant beileve im really seeing it

1) It doesn't have stock kernel. Stock kernel hardly boots other roms than stock.
2) Official is just a tag and practically doesn't do anything. This is not official because it is ported and not compiled. For official tag, we must compile a build with open sourced device sources with an active maintainer to push updates. We can't simply type "official" in the name. If we do, it will be deleted by mods. Once the compiled build is stable, we must request the lineage os community to add our device to their official list.
3) Lineage OS community doesn't usually add mtk devices as official.
4) We don't have MM sources to compile MM roms.
5) Official is now useless because lineage os has already officially removed support for MM. Their final builds were released long ago.
It's a whole network of communities how these roms work. It's not simply a word "official". It takes hardwork and time and nice hardware PC and a good device.
Hope your curiosity is now settled.
Have a nice day
Hey, glad to see you have updated this rom, does that gallery bug where some pictures won't load still exist? I remember this happening in your old builds of both lineageOS 13 and CM13.
Edit: I couldn't resist trying this rom out, and the gallery works just like it should!
Thank you for updating the rom? bcuz of no flac file support and [email protected] fps bug in nougat roms im gonna stick to mm for now and this rom is perfect for that.

I've had the same problem with ES File Explorer. I am using version 3.2.5. Before switching to lineage I made a titanium backup of ES. When restored, it worked but would crash when killing the app and launching it again. I uninstalled and restored it again, started ES, changed some of the settings, and now it works.
Try to move that app to internal storage if your sdcard as internal and also don't forget to allow storage permission for that app
Is it possible to add support for Miravision and Clearmotion?
Man i am so excited to try new 25 12 2017 released zip file!!!! loved this rom last time my only problem was when i turned on data saver it turned OFF my HOTSPOT (which makes sense but i need low ping so i need to cut off net from other apps, tried other apps but didnt work same thing)>>> i hope this probmlem is solved

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 10 (Q), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

Thanks!
Hi Jleeblanch, I've been following your work since the unofficial twrp for this device many time ago haha, and I just made an xda account to say thanks for all !!! been using the ROM by 3 days now (came from havoc 2.9, also tested the previous lineage builds from your website) I replaced the stock apps with the Gapps and and everything works well and super fast (LTE, Bluetooth, multiple open apps, video, etc) it's a very stable rom, just some lag on the native moto camera app but it's almost imperceptible.
Great job and again thanks a lot!!
Oh boy!! Right now I can't flash it cuz I'm traveling, but next week I'll try it for sure!
What gapps variant do you guys recommend? Nano, pico?
Thank you
Thank you. Your work is very much appreciated.
Ill flash this as soon as I get home.
I have doubts before proceeding to install the rom about its operation, has someone already installed it? Could you inform me about what errors it presents?
Also if you can inform me of how the installation process is.
Thank you

I tried with every variant, but got error 70 in twrp from nano to stock, so I flashed aroma for replacing stock apps and everything works fine

Many have been using my Lineage builds for beckham for some time and we wouldn't be "official" if we didn't meet all of Lineage's charter requirements (exception being MotoMods in this devices case). As far as MotoMods go, support is more generic on Lineage compared to stock as Moto has frameworks && system changes that will unfortunately never make it into Lineage officially.

Hm, iirc error 70 is a lack of space on system? I personally use opengapps nano and haven't experienced any issues regarding installation. But either way, glad you sorted it out.
Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk
The 11/18 ROM is stable. I also was using the unofficial 11/03 ROM which was also quite stable.
Recovery program:
I have not found a recovery program that yields consistent results. If I flash GAPPs (nano, pico) using the built-in recovery, with no errors, sometimes after flashing the ROM & rebooting the ROM doesn't have GAPPS installed. Same experience with using the TWRP recovery (fastboot loaded for boot only). Very inconsistent flash results. Suggestions?
Phone Volume:
A little lower than desired.
Voice to Text:
Voice to text does not work really at all well with AOSP keyboard. If you replace with Gboard, voice to text works better but still seems to hang sometimes. Playing around with that to see how to get it to work best
Google Setup:
When using Google Setup with the ROM, on initial boot the WIFI connection screen never shows WIFI connected even though the WIFI icon on the status bar shows to be connected.
Pretty much all the other features I use work fine. Will be fun to see this ROM get better and better each week.
The only issue I have experienced with this rom is the same I experience with every custom rom I have used for Motorola devices over the years. The wave to wake, or I guess, approach to peak seems a lot less sensitive then stock. With LOS I need to be a couple inches from the phone to get it to engage while stock my display comes on 4 or 5 inches from my phone..
Seems trite but my phone is my clock in my room and muscle memory has me waving my hand over it to see the time.

I just installed this one. So great experience!!
It seems to me that the sensors next to the Motorola logo are not active.
By now, I miss the face-unlock..

The Z3 play must have a way other then the proximity sensor to determine proximity.
the proximity sensor is to the left of the speaker on the top of the phone but the peek function will activate at the bottom of the phone.
Maybe noise via the mic?
Installed it yesterday and loving it!
Did someone tried Magisk?
Just one considerations: notifications volume gain is super high, it's loud! The minimum value is still loud and annoying; is there a way to change it?
And I do miss the motorola clock/weather widget...

Awesome to see lineage support! Really appreciate it. Moto mod support is limited? Does the phone at least charge and run off the battery mods?
Super excited to finally see an official ROM for this phone. Would it be possible to get the Moto Display working?
I made the update for today version 25/11, nice and easy, i had to reboot manualy i did not prompted me to do so, but no problem at all. After reboot a popup showed finishing instalation and i was at new version loke it was supposed to be.
I vê been using for the last week, the only reboot, was after finished a call received while changing, i unplugged to answer and when i finished the call it rebooted.
