Hyundai nav System - Connected Car

The recent Hyundai 8 inches Nav System used in many of their models like Sonata, Elantra, Tucson, etc uses androis as its base system.
I've never seen any sources published by their software provider (http://www.mapnsoft.com/) and I'm not sure of their obligations regarding Android.
I have a few SD cards with software updates from MapNSoft too. From what I can understand, the GPS map itself has value the system upgrades can be copied from car to car (of the right modem) even if the update was purchased.
Has anyone been able to modify the system image to add new apps like Android Auto? The reason I ask is because Hyundai USA upgraded all their compatible cars from 2015 and up to Android Auto for free in the last few months. However, Hyundai Canada didn't do the same and want to 'debut' Android Auto in their 2017 model year and forget about the past. I wanted to know if it was possible to hack the upgrade image to compensate for the fact that Hyundai Canada turned their back on thousand of their customers by keeping that upgrade from them. After all, Android is open source no? One can't even purchase the upgrade even if they wanted to. Ironically, their secondary brand (KIA) has such an upgrade available for most of their models (which generally correspond to a Hyundai model and has identical hardware) from 2015 and up. The KIA upgrade is not free but at least it is available.
I can provide additional details if needed.
Thanks in advance.
JF.

I am one of your supporters!
I hate the fact they lied and promised for Android Auto and they said only for 2017 and higher.
I would pay for it, but I guess Android Auto is restrictely developing by Google. I think for security reasons they don't want others have source of it.

Check out the hyundai-forums.com website. I remember someone else hacking the US update to work for Canada, so the logic they used to replace the checksums that mess you up should work for other cases with MapNSoft updates.

I'd like to have a solution for the Iberian maps update.

Do Windows Phones (starting Windows Phone 7) get free updates?

Whenever Apple releases an update for iOS, all iPhone owners can download and install the updated OS for free. Updates for Android phones work in different ways. As an owner of any Android phone you are at the mercy of hardware manufacturer (Samsung, HTC etc) to get Android update. Most Android hardware companies release a few update and most companies don't release updates at all. So, once you buy an Android 2.3 device, even though Google releases next version of Android, most likely you will have be be happy with that as there will be no update from your phone manufacturer probably. My question: Do Windows phone (starting Windows Phone version 7) owners get free OS updates like iPhone owners ?
It's more like iPhone way. Currently, your Windows Phone can have the last update released by Microsoft, but depends on your carrier. If your device was bought in a classic shop (no carrier firmware), you will have all the updates. On the contrary, the carrier could stop an update but has the obligation to do the next one.
Updates are free, in that you do not have to pay for them.
However, "official updates" are indeed carrier dependent. Meaning that if your carrier opts not to make an update available to your particular phone on your particular carrier, you cannot get the "official update"
However, as soon as an "official update" such as Mango, or even now Tango, becomes available, there are ways for you to install the update yourself, even without having to have any sort of "rooting" or "unlock."
I was worried about not being able to get the official update when it came out, after installing early on my own, and had no problems (just loaded an old backup version).
Hope this answers your question!
Hopefully this will change in the future (carrier dependent updates, not free updates). As WP is growing, they may have more leverage and bypass the carrier like apple. Not likely though, IMO
there are ways for you to install the update yourself, even without having to have any sort of "rooting" or "unlock."

Mirrorlink anyone?

Hi all. I have a pioneer AVIC-8000NEX and a verizon note 4.
Ever since having my GS4 I could not get the mirror link to work. I have the pioneer cables and the samsung mhl adapter.
I downloaded app radio on my phone but I ca never get it to work.
I tried drive link (Samsung's app) but it constantly crashes upon opening.
Anyone have mirror link working on their note 4?
I am on the same boat. From what I know, the note 4 has some kind of mirror link built-in and the s4 did not, however, pioneer needs to make it compatible with their devices
Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
I've been trying several things and trying to read up as much as possible. If I'm not mistaken, our devices use mirror link 1.1 and my Pioneer avic 8000 nex is on 1.0. There was a firmware update available but it didn't update the mirror link version. Mainly apply car play. I know Samsung has a Drive Link app, but it crashes whenever I try to open it. Using Pioneer App radio app, it starts to connect but then disconnects. Can't figure this out.
just got off phone with pioneer...
I was having this same issue with my pioneer head unit. Runs mirrorlink v1.0 but note runs v1.1. Spoke to pioneer who tells me the drivers are not backwords compatable. Pioneer is calling it a know defect on Mirrorlink side. They tell me its effecting everyone.
I called mirrorlink which nobody answered..... which is odd.
Also spoke to samsung customer service about it who told me its only used for their tvs to link... after i explained to the customer service person what it really was i did not get a reply.
So 1000.00 on radio, 100.00 on mirrorlink box, and i have a bluetooth connwction still.
Issue is with Pioneer and lack of development
Ok so... spent more time on phone with people at MirrorLink, Samsung and Pioneer.... here is the outcome.
MirrorLink states that the contract any company signs with them simply states they will provide the mirrorlink driver, its is the companies responsability to provide support for the driver and they application.
MirrorLink v1.0 needed a gateway app installed in order for it to talk to your radio however v1.1 has this built in.
Pioneer radios running v1.0 will NOT talk to phones running v1.1 as v1.1 is not backwards compatable due to the gateway app being built in.
I spoke with Pioneer to see how or when a updated flash for the 4600BH will be out there as this is the only reason I got this radio 8 months ago, the rep told me that they have no plans to update any of their current radios with a new flash and v1.1 and if I want MirrorLink to work with my Note4, "go buy a new 2015 model"
So there you go, customer service at its finest.....
I have submitted a BBB complaint that I spent good money for a working product that says it has MirrorLink but yet says nothing about the versions. If I had this radio for 3 years its one thing... but 8 months and there is NO support going foward for it?
Please keep me posted on your complaint with the BBB. You will also most likely need a petition going citing the same issues. I bought my avic 8000nex in April and mirror link was one of the features I was sold on. Is there anything I can do to help spread the word or get some momentum going for the complaint?
Mirrorlink
I have been having the same issue with the Samsung series of phones and the Pioneer AppRadio series. This is an absolute complete fail on Pioneers part. I personally am about to boycot anything from them because of their crappy customer service and their complete disregard to support their own stuff. Complaining to the BBB has done nothing for now, not sure what would. However, if anyone comes up with a fix or a third party flash fix for this head unit, I would be interested until I send this thing back to pioneer in pieces and tell them to kiss my but.
I don't believe this is a pioneer issue. Even if the pioneer uses 1.0 the HTC one m8 is 1.1 and works flawlessly with the pioneer units. I think this is a Samsung issue. I have a galaxy s5 on lollipop with mirrorlink and have the same issue. It connects but phone screen goes black and I have no picture on 4000nex screen. Oh and the s4 mini, note 4 and note edge were removed from the approved devices list on the mirrorlink web site a few days ago. Samsung is the problem here.
I'm in the market to upgrade my minivan's old Tape/CD player to a double-din head unit. I'm glad I found this thread. In fact, I nearly purchased that same head unit, last year.
In regards to MirrorLink 1.1, it looks like it came out sometime between December 2013 - April 2014, more likely AFTER the said head unit in the OP began mass production. I'm wondering if the newer Pioneer units support the same MirrorLink 1.1 technology. I've read that they are due out in March, 2015. I'll be looking at the AVIC-8100NE (or AVIC-8100NEX...it might've been a typo where I first read it), unless I hear of something better.
Can we start a list of known working head units for the Galaxy Note 4?
Honestly, I was going to try and see if there is a way to get it to work but I decided to just sale this head unit. I'm going to wait for an unit with Android Auto... I was looking at the model that Parrot is going to put on the market and I was very impressed, pretty much all that I wanted to do I'd be able to do with that.
Until than, I'm looking a way to use my Nexus 7 LTE as head unitish. Seems like it's possible so I'll start that project tomorrow
Still not working on 2015 model
Hey, tried my s5 with a 4700bs (2015 model with 1.1) on my display today and I still get the same error. "Reset settings" or whatever. This is not a 1.0 vs 1.1 problem. This has something to do with samsungs implementation of mirrorlink. The htc m8 is 1.1 and has always worked. Can't figure this one out. I should have gotten the htc phone.
Does anyone know if as of today pioneer has updated the mirror link firmware to 1.1?
I own Toyota innovative
Same issue . It's having Fujitsu Ten head unit.
I'm wondering if anyone has gotten MirrorLink to work on any Head Units with the Verizon Note 4 model (SM-N910V). Furthermore, if not, I'm wondering what the culprit may be. is root required? What about other Note 4's from other carriers with unlocked bootloaders? Basically anyone except Verizon and AT&T, with the exception of Verizon Developer Edition. Root is available for all those variants, if I'm not mistaken.. Anyone?
Still waiting for Pioneer to update the firmware for avic 8000nex. If they ever will.

Why is this phone so slow to receive updates?

I recently got the a520f after a few years with the iPhone. I was happy enough but then released there is 2 roms, 1 in alpha and another which is abandoned then noticed the updates from Samsung are sparse at best.
I'm unlocked in UK and stuck on 6.0.1, they "used" to say unlocked got updates first, noticed the way I said "used to" because carriers seem to be releasing 7.0 before unlocked, and while on the point 7.0 at this stage when Oreo will soon be released, even bringing the phone out with 7.0 would have been slow when 7.1 was available.
I am thinking I have made the wrong decision with the a520, Samsung are slow with updates anyway yes but the a520 seems to be at the bottom of Samsungs list of priorities. Last years a510 even has 7 for a while now.
hi !
Yes ,all people here want updates with another android version but i think that the most important thing is to enjoy with this phone :
it's a device with MM6 have enought power for to play game , it have the best super amoled screen ,it have a fabulous battery life ! , a fingerprints and "near" 20 differents sensors ,he have a good modem and hardware for 4G , this MM + sansung adds have all useful functions and parameters ....and the middle economic mode is impressive for the battery life...
The phone is receiving updates slowly cause the phone has owners all around the world, it's probably to make sure that OTA servers are not overloaded. Imagine what would happen if they released it at the same time for the whole world, the servers couldn't deliver acceptable speeds. That's just my guess though.
Nah, Samsung kinda sucks. I mean they couldnt make a proper working fingerprint sensor on stock MM, had to install nougat for the bloody thing to work.

How does Apple cope then?
That's Samsung decision to release update or not, as user we can wait for it or complaints to Samsung
Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk
It has nothing to do with "the server not able to cope" or anything. There are a few reasons building up to the devices being in literally the bottom of the pile as you put it:
1) Samsung has heavily skinned Android with a lot of added features, which all take a while to port to a new verison.
2) Costs of development, Q/A testing and everything else that needs to be done before the update gets released public (not doing the update obviously means a lot of saved money)
3) Most people don't care about updates or are even annoyed by them and think they are something evil. That's excluding heavy updates to a new version which slow down the phone by a large margin with features you could have lived without (Apple are doing this), those updates really are evil. Due to the lack of updates though, this rarely happens on Android in all fairness.
4) It's a mid range price device
5) Samsung's policy of not wanting to update the phones too much anyway so the user buys a new one
The phone is probably going to be updated to 7.0 within the next month or two. I doubt extremely it will get updated to 8.0.
This is unacceptable for a phone that has come out for 2017, to not got an update of an OS to a version that is released in 2017 just a little over an year later. We should definetly not put up with it and complain to Samsung however, not on XDA.
We should make sure OEM's take note that we want our phones updated to new Android versions fast for at least a few years, just like iOS devices. And on top of complaining, we should vote with our wallets also. That gets the chain moving.

That is tackled in another way. Your phone randomly receive updates in batch.
Yes you can get an update if you manually go into settings and download updates.
But again it is automatically provided in random batches.
Samsung is late at updates because they have a large number of models.
Not like Iphone that only support 3 models of past I think.
Samsung also needs to provide stable updates which take a lot of testing.
Again it depends on your country and provider when the start rolling updates.
By the way A5 got certified for oreo.

No Android Pie for Moto G5+ and rest of the G5 series. WIll you still trust Motorola?

Source: https://blog.motorola.com/2018/08/15/baked-android-pie-coming-motorola/
One of the few reasons i buy a Motorola was quick android updates. Motorola actually promised Android Oreo and Android P when it comes out for this phone. 1 year later still there is no specific date for Oreo update. While i unlocked the phone long ago and updated it to 8.1 via custom ROMS i still paid for software support which was included in the phones cost. . If possible we can start a petition on change.org ( Which will be useless as motorola anyway treats their customers as trash) Share your thoughts
Firstly, Motorola is out of its minds. They should first give an update to Oreo and then speak of Pie. Nokia and many other devices that launched long after last year's Moto G series are already running Oreo from months. Lenovo took Motorola from Google and turned it into ****.
Secondly, Motorola said that their devices would get only one major Android update, so I'm fine with it. But what's troubling is the amount of time they're taking for it. Having said this, finally I'd like to add that though Moto devices have suffered on the software side in Lenovo's hands, I didn't find any shortcomings even on nougat and didn't really feel like needing an update. My phone gets all the things done. The only thing that I miss is a 64 bit architecture that'd allow me to gain access to portrait mode on Google camera and make the device future proof, as Google will remove all the 32 bit apps from the play store soon. The only reason I still prefer to buy the Moto devices is the XDA community. But if Moto continues releasing 32 bit os on a 64 bit chipset, then I may as well go for Mi devices because they get excellent XDA support too.
Short Answer: No
Long Answer:
I only ever bought a Moto phone because it was cheap. While I usually don't care for the latest and the greatest in neither software or hardware (still rockin a IPod Touch 4th gen) How Moto is treating it's customers is awful.
I know all about planned obsolescence, but this seems like a new level. Purposely delaying a promised software patch for your flagship until after your new flagship comes out (that conveniently ships with the promised software from the last one, mind you) Then maybe focusing on bringing that software to the old phone. Waiting just long enough to make sure everyone buys the new one.
If you don't believe me, this will probably happen again with the G6/Plus/Z/Z Play. The Android P update will get delayed and delayed until, eventually, a new Android is released. And, surprise, along with it, a new flagship that you will inevitably force people to buy while promising the new software.
It's a circle, people.
Motorola might be a good company before lenovo bought it .. But now OMG ..now i think why in the f****ing hell i chose Lenovo's Motorola ...FFS ...Everything about it's Software side is so **** !!\
So i don't think it's even worth it .. they won't change!!
I have owned and used the Moto G2, G3, G4, and now the G5+. The same complaints have been posted in these forums with every device. Personally, I don't care about upgrades to new versions of Android. As long as my phone performs well, which it does and is reliable, which it is I am content. My G5+ does everything well that I want it to do and then some. So I have no complaints.
As far as what I buy in the future, I will make that decision when the time comes. And yes, I will consider Motorola's latest offerings.
Motorola told us last year the Moto G line will get 1 major OS update.
And Oreo is being tested so just be patient or flash a custom rom.
They never promised Android P for the phone, only Android Oreo
For those saying Lenovo kileed motorola, Google was going to kill Motorola and Lenovo saved it, so stop blaming them, Motorola was a dead company
I wanted a device that was reasonably priced, close to stock, good developer community. I think I got that. So potter's not getting Pie? It wasn't promised, so there's no issue of 'trust' there. Oreo? Well OK that's late as anything. I did know at the time I bought it that Motorola was now slow to update. I bought mine around September last year, and was surprised when it auto-updated to I think the August patch. Since then, software updates have been patchy (pun intended).
Another consideration is in NZ, there's only a handful of open network phones available. Motorola, Oppo, Huawei, and you might find a few others if you're willing to go to parallel import shops etc. So with that in mind, it kinda makes the choice obvious for me. Nokia? In NZ they're network-specific, and on a network that I don't use. So yeah, I'll stick with Motorola. G6 Plus is available for us, which is a good thing. Although, I'll hang onto this for a couple of years, so I'd likely skip the Gen 6 motos.

Let's discuss official Samsung updates for the Tab S4

France is getting a new update with May security patch and a higher changelist number (16124683)
Do you know what's new? Or is it just improvements and security update!

Edit:
The latest update is T835UBS3BSG1 with July Security Patch Update
This is [email protected]
In Oz I have a generic Tab S4 and the last security update was December 2018... This is supposed to be updated by Samsung with NO carrier to delay the update...
Seriously, WTF!!! No Pie for me just an old Oreo...
I thought Treble was supposed to stop this stuff from happening...
Why not just flash a PIE Rom? I use all sorts of different Firmware versions to keep me updated xd

Yeah, and yet the Telstra model was updated last month.
I contacted Samsung, same song and dance about "don't know when your device will be updated"...
I thought it was google policy that the current devices were to be updated with security updates ASAP. My security policy is dated December 2018.
Considering this device is out there as a business device this is a major lapse in security as the vulnerabilities haven't been patched on what could, essentially be, a business device. Even if it's not being used by a business, I tend to use this device as a laptop replacement... A lot of personal data can be stored on here and not as secure as my phone...
Considering Samsung is a major player in the smartphone industry, this lapse is unforgivable, my S8 has just been updated to June security update and I don't have half the sensitive stuff I store on my tablet...
Shame on Samsung....

If you want to update your tablet, first of all backup all the data in your tablet and then follow this guide to update it with the most up-to-date firmware:

Samsung pushed a new update to many countries (T835UBS3BSG1) with July Security Patch Update
I am going to download it soon to see if they fixed the UI glitches in the previous update pushed to France XEF
You can check Samsung's official firmware update list, but they don't provide any new information. As you can see, Samsung only provide two types of updates - security and patch fixes and major UI changes. http://doc.samsungmobile.com/SM-T835/XEF/doc.html

The SF4 update have many UI scaling issues, especially in the quick settings toggles (missing first row, missing auto brightness slider in landscape mode), I am flashing the new update (SG1) now via Odin and report back
For example
Dirty flashed the update (using Home CSC) without wiping anything
After reboot I got Samsung Experience Services force stop, updated it from Google Play Store and it is working fine now
Auto brightness slider is now showing properly in landscape, no missing toggles, July Security Patch Update
This is what I found now
They just pushed the Australian update about a week ago, it's now on the May security patch...
At least that's better than the 6 month old security patch they gave before but for a premium flagship this is still unacceptable...
People here know how to use ODIN and flash firmware but for the everyday consumer this is something over their heads...
I know that people will argue that this is an easy fix by coming here or doing a google search but seriously, think back to the 1st time you flashed your device. It as a scary thing knowing (or being blissfully unaware) that you could destroy your shiny new toy. Not to mention the amount of people who know how to use their phone but have NO idea how to do anything on the PC other than browse facebook and send emails...
When we buy our devices we buy the security that the OEM will push out updates to protect our lovely devices and when I pay out a small fortune I sorta expect that this will be the case. Especially when it is retailed as a business device.
Security is all...
You buy a cheap $100 tablet from some Chinese company no-one has never heard of you don't expect much more than the device starts up and works...
You buy from a well established company that has a HUGE presence in the market you are buying the security of having the best and latest.
For some markets this is not happening and that is disgraceful...
Rant over....

Totally agree, it is silly that Samsung pushing only quarterly security patch updates for their tablets
I have a question about these updates.
My last tablet was the Note 12.2. At that time it was awful if the tablet updated, it broke root and you couldn't get it back. So I'm paranoid about letting anything update. However I let that one sit since 2015 because it crashed I didn't have backup and wanted to someday recover newborn baby hospital pics and first Christmas pics. I've been without a tablet since.
I Get here to research the S4, the last with headphone jack tablet and it seems like you have to update to root. Is this right? I also swear I read that pie breaks a couple of programs on the s4, but I can't find the thread now.
Can someone clue me in since I appear to have fallen off the SOTA curve. Thank you for your help.
Hi all, today I got latest update with November security update. A nice feature has been added: smart view now allows resizing to destination screen ratio.
Did you find anything else?

What are the limitations of pie over Oreo? Is there a reason not to update?
Just recieved the Update in Germany. All data was deleted!
So Backup your data before installing.
I received the update a few days ago, and since then my tablet doesn't want to fast charge. Anybody has a similar problem?
Not here. I'm on Android 9 (pie) with Nov. 1 security update. I didn't notice any issues. First time I have ever seen Samsung get out a timely security update, it was only a couple of weeks after my Pixel (which is on Android 10).
