[Q] Mi Max SIM Tray - Xiaomi Mi Max Questions & Answers

Hi Guys,
I broke my SIM Tray the other day :crying: I live in Indian and looking for a Mi Max Golden color Sim Tray. Have already ordered on Ali Exp. however it takes really long to get an item from Ali to India, almost a month.
I have visited all the service centers in the city I live in and a couple of other citites nearby however no luck, unable to find it on eBay or any other online retailer I know of in India.
If anyone has any suggesitons please do let me know, if you know any site from where I can get it faster then Ali or any offline mode I would really appreciate it.
Thank you.

No other option apart from waiting, Not available in India. Just curious How did your Sim tray broke?

Tried Dual Sim and Memory card Mod. Worked on Vodafone and Airtel setup so next tried Jio and Vodafone, was too eager and didn't check the size of Sim and Memory card and inserted it with pressure. Bingo! Sim Tray stuk and had to take it to service center to get removed.
But the Mod works so will try again.

I was thinking the same reason else there's no reason to break the sim tray, I've also tried the same mod and wasted a Jio sim, the tray was stuck, so rubbed the Jio Sim on a sandpaper (emerypaper) and the circuits broke. Well glad that you tried and were successful.:good:

Got 4 Jio Sim yesterday as I too wasted 1Jio sim...waiting for sim tray to arrive will try again...[emoji1] [emoji6]

I saw many videos on youtube and I have already separated the plastic from the sim tray but can you please help me with the mod by answering some questions.
1. Did you remove any glue from the back of the sim?
2. Did you grind the microsd card?
3. How did you paste the sim to the microsd?
Thanks

If the sim has a lot of glue, like a bump, you have to remove it. It slides hard enough with the sim chip clear. On some sims, after you heat them under a flame, they come off clear, on others with that big glue bump.

I dipped the Jio SIM in thinner which women use to remove nail polish for almost and hour.
After that used a switch blade to slightly remove the golden pins of the sim again dipped the sim in thinner so that it enter the golden pin part of the sim and with in a min bingo the golden pins removed from sim and its still usable.
Used Vernier caliper to checking the sim+micro sd card size.
Brushed the SD card slightly and brushed the golden pin of sim till it was slightly showing copper color. the size is appx 1.14 mm (Checked with Vernier caliper.
These are the steps hope it is helpful to you.

Sim Tray Stuck
Hi,
I tried to use double sim and memory idea that I watched from youtube for mi max. :crying::crying:
But now my sim tray even cannot be load out from the phone. I tried to pushed harder and it only bended my sim ejector.
Can you help me please with how to push the sim tray out of the phone since now I can only use one sim card (2nd sim). The 1st nano sim and memory cannot be read and also the tray now stucked on the phone.
Thanks
Regards

I had no problem doing this mod on the Redmi Note 3 because the sim tray is deep. The Mi Max tray is a lot thinner so it's easy to get the SIM card jammed against the pins. I haven't tried this mod because I don't want to take the phone apart...

U need to open the phone or take it to a service centre if u can't do it. If the SIM tray is stuck u can't get it out urself directly and u might damage the golden contact pins instead inside the phone.

Dual sim software

I have a dual sim adapter fitted in my i-mate, to have my cake and eat it as it were, having loads of free minutes on a contract sim, and free texts on a pay as you go sim.
What I have been searching for unsuccessfully is a piece of software which will let me select the sim I want to use, rather than turning the phone (Flight mode) on and off. Has anyone come across such a piece of software? Is the i-mate already capable of this feature?
Thanks for your assistance.
Where did you found that dual sim adapter, I still need one.

Would like to know the answer myself as this would solve the problem of carrying 2 phones (my own and a work phone)

I bought that King of Double from SaintJoy, but it doesn't fit! Has anyone have a solution?
They do fit but i agree there could be a better solution , the little ribbon cable you get could be alot longer.
Anyway to fit it, you have to release the sim card lock thing then carefully pull the plastic clip off the hinges that it fits to.
Then slide the double card adapter in with the ribbon cable pointing to the bottom.
now flip the cable back over the side of the clip and replace the plastic sim clip back onto its hinges.
lock the sim down with the slide lock.
Replace the battery but make sure the ribbon cable goes over the side of the battery, so that it fits on top of the battery while in use (i tried it underneath the battery and it hard reset my PDA, evey time you pressed slightly on the battery.)
now the top case plastic will be hard to get on now , but it does go down (with a struggle)
I can post pics if you need
P.S. to swap sims when the PDA is on, just select "Flight Mode on" then "Flight Mode off" again.
There is a thread http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=48824&hl=dual+sim you can refer to for more info.
The shop that sells the dual sim holder is at:

This is what you need. My little brothers using one in his i-mate JAM. You will have to cut the SIM cards up to get it to fit but it works fine. It takes about 3-4 seconds to swtich over each SIM. Probably the easiest way. They should be available in just over a week.

16 SIM in one SIM
*i use this in my Himalaya and Blue Angel.
i can switch the numbers/carier when i need with STK.
Plese see the link(japanese site so just see the photo)
http://asukal.seesaa.net/article/845414.html
this is useing sirial port to copy your sim to PC, then copy to SuperSIM.
it takes 6 hours or something for one sim copy. only SIM V,1 can copy.
*also tested 6 sim in one with usb as follow
http://asukal.seesaa.net/article/2361582.html
only takes 40min for one SIM. also v1 sim is able.V2 sim cant(V2=large rom sim, 3G/2.5G or CDMA somelike high function)
*cut 2 sims rom and past on to one sim kit

Re: Supersim 16 in 1
I use supersim too. It works fine. I have 8 number on it.
But I think you are not right! I can use 3G with V1 sim cards too!
I created a software for myself, so I can switch between the numbers using the hardware buttons.
Supersim is the best solution to use more number in a phone. But our country is not easy to get older sims (V1) - becouse I can only clone this cards or write to supersim.
ya, i knew some 3G can copy into Super sim, but all of them are not able to be done, some of the Carriers of 3G seems protect to copy,
Also some kinds of SIM will be broken if try to copy, so i had better say 3G is not copied. it safty for friends.
thanks.
Re: Supersim 16 in 1
I use a 3G network with my supersim. There is no problem with it.
I don't understand what does "copy 3G into Supersim" meen. Becouse I cloned my sim card to Supesim and I ordered the 3G from my network provider and it worked. Do you use the 3G? Or doesn't work it with your supersim?
yes i use hk csl 3G in my superSim. ok i should use another words. some of them can copy to super-s,some of them cant. not all of 3G cant. many japnese friends of mine tested with Thailand Sim,philipine sim, japan sim,Hk sim, china sim, vietnam sim, singarepole sim, some of them can use in supersim, some of them cant. depend on the cariers,or version of sim. or size of sim,and many of 3G sim cant. also big size memory sim cant, cdma either, edge either, japan vodafone either, ais either, all of philippines cariers sim either, generaly speaking, high version sim cant, lower version is can. just generaly, because i never tested sims all over the world.this is what i want say. hope u can understand what i want to say.
Re: Supersim 16 in 1
Ok. Ok. I understand! Thanks for the information!
Where can we buy the Supersim ?
it was from Taiwan company, but produced in china.
i only know it was sold in HongKon, Taiwan, China. but no idea in Europe,
Mr,freelovsky may know about it
i am also selling this, but i think the freight to europe is very costy. you had better find it in Europe.
I am using the King of DoubleCard dual sim adapter for more than a year now.
I fits a bit tight, but you dont have to cut sims!
Just recently I joined the Sim Status Switcher by www.wivit.com beta test program.
THIS is the software one needs for switching SIMs and always being able to see what SIM is active: It shows (apart for operator) the phone number too (so you can identify the active sim when roaming too) via a today plugin.
It has quite some options (see demo slides on the site).
Although it is still in beta, no real bugs are there. Hopefully it will be officially released soon.

HOWTO: Bypass activation and use your old simcard. (pics)

Just unboxed my TP2 (photos are in <here>, in case you're interested).
I decided that I'll skip this whole new simcard activation nonsense.. Now, whether they will disable my old simcard or not - I don't know. If they will, I will activate my new simcard then.
So, the problem is that AT&T is trying to be "cute" with us - they glued a piece of plastic on top of the simcard and somehow disabled the simcard locking mechanism from unlocking the simcard.
Meh, nothing a Victorinox pocket knife can't fix.
DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. I'm not responsible for anything, YOU ARE.
Here is how to remove it and stick an old simcard in:

Here's proof that it worked right after a reset (3G, HSDPA is not enabled by default, I presume):
Hope this helps someone.
What is AT&T's motivation for doing this? Is the phone perhaps arriving from HTC unlocked?
Why would AT&T want to go through the needless, employee-centric hassle of activating a new sim card, when I could simply stick my old one in it?
I don't get it?

No idea.. My old simcard works perfectly fine.. and it's actually about 4 years old (2 contracts).. I'm keepin' my $19/mo unlim data for as long as I can.
why are you using a knife to remove the sim card? you can easily remove the card by following the directions on the huge picture bext to the sim card by using the stylus to slide out the sim card.

You mean the picture under the battery?
It doesn't slide out like that.. Did it work for you on Tilt2?
Dunno about the tape, but it is pretty hard to get the SIM out of the Q9h.
(nope, it does not have the unlock mechanism either) I just press down on the actual SIM & slide it out as much as I can with friction and then insert my nails into the slots on the side of the SIM and pull it out..
Pretty much standard procedure on most phones - the unlock mechanism, etc cost $$ and have been taken out on a lot of phones - welcome to cheapo manufacturing..
Still waiting anxiously for my Tilt2 - will report how this works there..

Yes, I am referring to the picture under the battery.
There is a little hole above the SIM card that you poke your stylus into and use that to push out the SIM card. Works fine on the Touch Pro2 Verizon, there is no difficulty in that method at all.

Didn't want to use my stylus. Used this:
Came out very easily..
Note: the tip is blunted/bent.. Do that to avoid inadvertent scratches
Yeah my sim card came out easily using the little hole for the stylus.
I guess AT&T just wanted to cover that "ugly" piece of metal lol.
If the SIM card is taped down and extra difficult to remove, then maybe that is how they are enforcing the new data plan requirements.
As has been pointed out though, I have the unlocked Touch Pro 2 and I have to use the stylus to remove the SIM card. No tape holding it down though, that's pretty weird.
Just use the hole above the SIM card slot. Took me a little to figure it out because I was so used to sliding the card out the normal way.
i personally was never told to activate my phone. the day i got it i called the business line and they said i could use the new sim or the old one and keep the new one as a backup(which i did). and i don't think they tried to make them hard to remove because it's the same for the gsm tp2. you have to use the stylus.
Got mine this morning, and it had no tape and no little lock tab. Popped it out exactly like the instructions showed, and slid in the old one. Worked beautifully.
LOL yeah you just poke your stylus in the little hole and "push" it out. No need for surgery...

Well, I recently saw pictures in a German Android forum (sorry I'm not allowed yet to post URLs here)

Same thing. Card slot architecture is the same.
Search other phones and you will find similar results for combo SIM trays.
I don't care if you believe it. It's just a pity you are misleading others to not even try to solve their problems.
I'd love to try just like the instructions but if I mess it up it's a hassle to get a new SIM card here. Police report needs to be made and taken to the carrier. Carriers don't issue new sims without it.

This procedure works with Huawei P9. I make a combo sim with a Kingstone 64 Gb card. With a lot of patience, an cutter, an hairdryer, a ruller and some glue now I have 2 sim and 64 gb card on my Huawei P9
Working here also 2 sim with micro sd in my p9.

Only one slot fits sdcard. But both works with 4g, you have to select which one uses 4g and which uses 2g. Dual sim manager allows you to select that.

Unlock Dual Sim - Plastic Cover

Hi Everyone,
First, thanks to anyone who will search for a solution.
Moto Z2 Play is new, so I don't think there's another topic on this problem with this smartphone.
There are some Reddit topics about same problem with previous motorola Z, but solutions were only flashing custom roms or stock indian roms.
So there's the issue.
I just bought my Z2 play, and I realized there's a second slot for a second nano sim card, covered by a little plastic piece.
I red the paper instructions that confirmed the slot.
I then removed the plastic piece, inserted my second nano sim, booted, and ....... nothing happened.
So there are two possibilities :
- There are multiple Z2 Play hardware configurations, but Motorola decided to use the same slot sim pieces for both one and dual sim.
- There's a software or rom limitation that disable the second nano sim.
In parameters, there are no options for Sim.
I emailed Motorola and Lenovo, so I'll let you know, but I know for sur that XDA members are often more useful than official support.
Thanks to the community

I think it's software but not rom, that one should be controlled by a "Dual Sim" true/false flag you can see from settings-> about phones-> hardware information.
However to change this flag you'll need to as least unload bootloader for system modifications, below are the steps on z and z play:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z/how-to/guide-dual-sim-mod-signle-sim-moto-z-t3606528
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z-play/how-to/guide-to-enable-dualsim-singlesim-t3570601
z2 play nobody did that yet.

So sorry for the response delay, the notification was flooded in my mailbox.
First, thanks a lot for your answer.
If I had a backup device, i would have try the solution that worked for the Moto Z Play.
But I only have my Z2 Play, and, just like you said, that has never been done on it.
So I'll keep searching on the wide web for a solution, cause I think you're right about the fact it's software.
Why does Motorola shut the second sim?
They would sell much more devices, cause it's a really good phone (after couple of week in my hand, so good), and there are no smartphone with this quality that can take 2 SIM cards AND a micro-SD.
Anyway, if someone else find something, I'm listening.
Thanks a lot @lanyao1920
has anyone managed to find a way to unlock the 2nd sim slot on the z2 play yet, i've been looking around and not been able to find the file necessary to enable the dual sim flag
I did 2 sim cards on my z2play. Here's the instruction.
I have the international version. The instructions are not in English so all I can do is look at the pictures. It looked to me like if I wanted to use an SD card I had to use Sim slot 2. So I have Sim in 2 slot and using SD card. It seems to be working fine on Cricket network. I have nothing in sim slot 1.
I need your help.
I already made the change from false to true,I have 2 working sims on my z2 play but I can´t decide wich line is giving me mobile data,is there anything I can do to change it in Hex editor ?
Thanks in advance.
I bet you need to load the firmware from an officially supported dual SIM variant. Or a custom ROM that supports dual SIM. I'm curious about this phone for it's dual SIM + Verizon capabilities. Anyone tried this yet? I'm on a 1+3T so there is dual SIM support baked into OOS

I didn't have a link. The forum did that.
Since my original post, I contacted Motorola and asked if I should put the SIM card in slot 1. They suggested that I do.
So I have it i slot 1 now and have not had any issues.

Oh i see. So after following the instruction, u can use Dual sim on single sim Moto Z2 Play but if u want to use the SD card u will have to eliminate sim 1, rite ?
You can set the device up to use both sim cards, but second IMEI will be 0.
In the UK at least, this is useless as none of our networks will let a 0 IMEI register on the network due to British law.

Question Galaxy Z Fold 3 Has Dual Sim and eSIM but not in the US Work Around Discussion ?

Looking for possible work arounds no way I'm buying a $1700. phone with Dual and eSIM disabled.
Done carrying around 2 phones
Wouldn't buying an international version be a solid option or would the US carriers still not support or disable the option ?
Galaxy Z Fold 3 has two physical SIM slots and an eSIM (but not in the US)

Samsung's Z Flip 3, Z Fold 3 Are Both Single-SIM in the UShttps://www.pcmag.com/news/samsungs-z-flip-3-z-fold-3-are-both-single-sim-in-the-us
yeha I am totally bummed out again. I have a S21 thinking I was able to use eSIM in the US...still nothing. Now that I am getting the Fold 3... it's going to be same.
Samscum. Go ahead blame the carriers. I dare you, I double dare you.
Wondering whether we can flash EU or south american ROM on our us U our U1 model, as all fold 3 models come with snapdragon processor now? This is how I was able to get esim on US unlocked Note20 ultra U1 by flashing T-Mobile ROM.

Thats a good question Is eSIM still working on it ?
I don't see much up to date rom action in the note 20 ultra development forums no official LineageOS maybe better off just waiting for the Pixel Fold ?

I mean, I'm not disagreeing that Sammy is not partly to blame here, but T-Mobile did make the call to unlock esim on the Note 20 even after samsung refused to give esim to even unlocked models. So I do think carriers have some say in the matter as well.
I ordered the T-mobile version of the device through Samsung........assuming it will come with T-mobile SIM card, what do I do to activate, just put in the SIM and go online to T-mobile to activate the device?
I hate NA! I wish we have eSIM. I really do need two lines on my primary
I noticed there are sim pins on top and bottom when I was inserting my sim. The tray is single, but looks like it has the hardware for 2 sims.
So which one do you use?
Hello. It it known if there are any NA carriers that support eSim for Fold3 owners?

Why does it say “SIM 1” if there is only one SIM. My guess is that there is an esim but de-activated that is why the physical sim is named that way.
also on the back of the sim tray , looks like another sim card can fit. I am yet to get my fold3, but anyone with fold3 can see if a sim card sits on the back of the tray as well (PLEASE DONT INSERT IT IN THE PHONE )

Look inside the sim tray opening with a light, you see gold contacts for sim card on top and bottom. Assuming or sim 1 and 2

so theoretically if we get a UK version sim tray , it should be easier to try and see if the dual nano sim work.
and then the question is can we flash the UK/EUROPEAN FIRMWARe to the US phone given that the hardwares are exactly the same (other than the LTE, BANDS ACCESS MODULE)
